[Q] Back to 4.1 - Sony Xperia T, TL, TX, V

Hi experts,
before i try the new 4.3 rom i would like to know if it is possible to revert back to 4.1.2 later on.
Thanks
Attila

Of course. Flashtool + appropriate FTF file which you can find anywhere in this subforum and you can easily revert back to 4.1.2

Thx
Thank you,
then i give it a try.
Cheers.

Which needs unlocked bootloader, correct?
Which additional drivers need to be installed?
Is there a way to downgrade with locked bootloader? I am actually ok with the function of .199 but not with it's tons of bloat, and no way to install certain apps. No root is almost like having no sex ever.

Of course yes, flashtool is both for locked and unlocked bootloaders! The drivers I always install is something called "Gordon Gate driver", the FlashTool itself and this is enough for the phone to be recognized while plugging. Be sure to plug in the phone one time in flash mode before the final flashing so that the PC recognizes it and installs drivers, after that unplug it for a while and turn it off again because it will probably turn on, it always happens in my case when I plug the phone for the first time after f.e. installing a brand new OS and not every drivers are installed. Then run FlashTool and you can start the magic!
But, you can always disable certain apps in Settings>Apps>All. You will be actually freezing them (just like with titanium backup) but it's pretty useful. Aaaaand there are two ways of flashing recovery on locked bootloaders so that you can i.e. flash SuperSU .zip file with the app and appropriate binaries (you can find it on its dedicated thread here on XDA), that's what I'm always doing.
My phone is T. Xperia T.

Ok, I have still a notebook somewhere in the corner running XP. I'll see what this one can do. If I can downgrade to 4.12, then I can rrooooot that one. At least I would not feel so naked and vulnerable anymore.
Can Flashtool make a mirror or image of the current ROM?
And thanks bunches for your helpful answer!

Here are the rough steps to downgrade:
- use a PC which runs Windump XP or 7
- install Flashtool
- install drivers (in the Flashtool drivers folder)
- download a 4.12 FTF of your choice. Nordic and Singapore seem pretty good.
- switch phone to USB debugging
- open Flashtool, click on the flash symbol and chose flashmode, follow the instructions, don't disable any of the flashing options
- after successful installation root with DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v17_perf-event-exploit
- after successful rooting update SuperSu
- install recovery CWM4XperiaT_v8i_JB
From here you can install a rooted 4.3 if you can live with it's shortcomings, or any 4.2. I choose Pure-X-Blaster 4.2.2.

Flash a stock generic 303 firmware, found in the all in one thread.
Root using bin4rys method.
Then follow the thread for keeping root on an OTA update,
But first, read the all in ine thread, its the very first thread in this section.
But you can't flash anything with out x recovery and root acces i always thought?
I will read the topic's again.
Thx in advanced

No,
You can always use flashtool to flash a stock ftf no matter on root status. Read the thread.
There are several threads on how to root 195 firmware.
Root access is not automatic, xperia phones do not come rooted, you have to do it yourself
I know how it al works, with the x10.
Now i have a Xperia T but cant find the drivers.
Flashtool is asking about the drivers, and i did install al of them.
But there is no T drivers.
Isn't there a tutorial or something what i can read about.

yes, but not directly, there are plenty of guides in the general section.
It basically involves downgrading to 303, rooting and then doing an OTA update to 195.

Install both Flashtoll driver and TX driver was fine for me (done with 0.9.8.0 version).
Something else I've discovered (since I re-flashed stock firmware again today on a different PC) is that the phone drivers often don't initialise in time if using latest Windows OS (Win 7 in my case) since the PC looks online for drivers before trying the installed ones.
Clicking the new hardware wizard icon and skipping the Windows Update drivers check got the phone recognised.
If I helped hit thanks!
Tanks all for the answers.
But i did al you all said but nothing is working.
I did install pc companion again.
Installed al the drivers.
And stil the same error.

[Q] Sony Xperia Z bricked after custom 4.3 Rom

Hi All,
Hoping for some advise and hopefully a fix. Been scouring these forums for 4 hours and cannot find a problem the same as mine or one that seems like it would fix.
I've always stuck to nexus phones in the past so the xperia z is new to me. picked it up this weekend but i've already had enough of sony's custom skin so thought i'd get a custom rom.
I updated to the latest software version using the pc suite and then used the xperia z root tool (v16).
After this i downloaded root checker and verified i was rooted
i then downloaded cwm recovery and installed
i then downloaded the 4.3 google edition rom for the xperia z, put it on the sd card and went into recovery, selected it from sd card. said it all installed ok so selected reboot...
after this it didnt come back on and just vibrates once when you press the power button. tried the hard reset thing where it vibrates 3 times but after this it does nothing.
it isnt recognised when plugged in to pc and the only sign of life that i can see is the light flashing red when plugged in as if charging.
Any ideas? never had something not switch on at all before.
Is your bootloader even unlocked?
4.3 roms and all other roms with non stock kernels cannot be flashed on a locked device.

Easy. Just repair with SUS
or
Download flashtool, and download the corresponding firmware you need (should be .ftf format) (i.e. if your a UK generic user download UK generic ROM) and flash the firmware.
fixed
Thanks guys. Flashtool got me back up and running.
Now, just because I'm obviously a complete tool does anyone know off the top of their head if it is actually possible to put the Google edition 4.3 on here after all of that or should I quit while I'm ahead???

It is an advanced build of 4.3 based on CM 10.2.
Remember to fastboot flash boot.img of kernel before flashing it form recovery.
If all that seems too complicated then i advice you don't attempt it right away, read around the XDA forum and familiarise yourself before attempting to brick your phone :silly:
Dude does your bootloader unlocked? If not maybe it cause u a soft brick. Try to flash the original ftf for xperia z use the latest flash tool then reflash it. Hope it helps you. Btw welcome to the SONY world ;p

[Q] Root, and recovery on Kitkat .757

Hi all,
I have a c6903 Z1 currently on Kitkat 4.4.2 (after an OTA update I really wish I'd never done) and I want to root it so I can install the SD card permission fix - can't put up with not being able to write to external SD, it's infuriating. If I can fix that, I can probably put up with KitKat.
If I'm still not happy with that then I want to go back to 4.3
Having read a lot, and I mean pages, and pages, about it, and having to downgrade, I've picked up that I would have to use NUT's .534 ftf to avoid losing the IMEI, and then I was going to root with vRoot.
Does anyone know, does that install Superuser or will I need the Superuser zip too?
At that point I want to then install recovery, so I'm looking at NUT's Z1 Locked Dual Recovery.
I rekon that should all be fine.
To get it back on KitKat I should then put the 757 zip on my SD card and flash in recovery, reboot and flash the stripped ftf with Flashtool, along with the recovery again.
If I still don't like it, I could then just repeat the above, but with the .136 zip and stripped ftf.
Am I thinking right here?
The only thing that's a bit worrying is that, for example, the .136 update thread says to come from .290.
Is this so, do I have to install that first, or can I go straight from the newly rooted .534 directly?
Sorry if this has been answered before, but my eyes are killing me staring at this screen now.
The only other thing I'm thinking is to just not root, and simply flash a Jelly Bean full ftf.
I'd rather have root and recovery though.
Thanks,
Mick.
wow, you didn't read much
DO NOT USE VROOT, IT SEND YOUR IMEI TO AN IP ADDRESS IN CHINA.
To get root on 757, just follow the step sin my signature
No need to use any root methods or unlock the bootloader
3 steps, 5 minutes work max.... a bit longer if you have slow download speeds

download the file for the Z1 from [NUT]s page since that one is for this phone.
the XZ is for the xperia Z and that is a different phone. It is always advisable to download and flash things that are deigned/made for the phone you have, not another phone....
u don't need to install the 290 version first, get nut's 534 stock, then install dualrecovery and go straight with the 136 one.

the Z1 flashable file will upgrade to the latest version from recovery itself, but will only work on a Z1.

Oh, right, well, I've downloaded this installer -> Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.7.123-BETA from NUT's site.
I'll flash NUT's .534 ftf with flashtool first, then I'll run the installer from my lappy, and that should root and install the recovery.
I have also downloaded the Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.7.123-BETA.flashable - I assume that's what I need to flash after flashing another ROM if it doesn't include it's own recovery.
I have noticed some ROMS have earlier version recoveries, like .80, built in. Can I still flash the .123 on to of those with no issues? I have read there had been some issues with flashing over older recoveries.
Has anyone figured out why the IMEI was being lost? Was it due to the baseband
I've already got the drivers installed, in fact I successfully flashed back to .136 just to try it (last flashing I did was on my Arc S, so been a while) last night as I just couldn't be bothered with KitKat anymore.
Thanks again,
Mick.

If the installation was successfully then it doesn't matter. The older one working well. In the case you want flash the newets one then you have to wipe your phone with a stock FTF.

I can open a topic for this question, but i'll just ask it here to prevent extra spam etc hehe.
If i get to a 757 rooted firmware using these methods, and i want to go to a non rooted firmware like 769 if it comes out. Will that be just a matter of reflasing the tft that belongs to that firmware using flashtool, or do i have to make more steps?
Thanks for answering!

When 769 will be out then NUT will have Pre-Rooted FTF like the 757, so you will have just to repeat the same steps. If you will want go to 769 Stock then 1 step will be required, flash it via Flashtool.
I want to remind you also that we do not predict future so we don't know what Google will do to they future Firmwares so the steps can be less or more, nobody know it.
Just one more thing, sorry to be a pain.
I'm happy with the process, flash NUT's. 534 ftf, then run the recovery installer to get root and recovery.
I don't want to install a custom rom right now.
I either want to end up on 4.3 with root and recovery, or 4.4.2, root, recovery, and the SD card fix.
If I use the zip and stripped ftf files from NUT's download page, I'll still retain root access, is that right?
Then just reflash the recovery zip before rebooting, and job done?
I've had no issues with the stock .136 firmware I've currently downgraded to other than the NFC icon not appearing when active. Something I've gathered can be fixed by editing the build.prop, but doesn't bother me anyway.

Yes, I had the same problem, there's lots of info on here. There's hundreds of pages to read and it can get confusing.
I'll assume your phone hasn't been messed with. i.e. The bootloader is locked, and it's not rooted, and that you're using a Windows PC.
If you have changed your phone, let us know.
Make sure you have USB debugging turned on in your Developer Options, and Unknown sources in the Security settings.
To enable Developer Options in your settings, go to Settings, About phone, and keep taping Build number until it says 'You are now a Developer'
You'll need to download the latest version of Flashtool from here --> http://www.flashtool.net/download.php
You'll need to install the drivers for your phone too. The driver installer is in the flashtool/drivers folder.
Ok, so this is what I've gathered so far :
This is the link to the steps, thanks to gregbradley --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52407809&postcount=2
If you follow those, you'll end up with a rooted phone with whatever stock based rom you fancy.
Now the following are my thoughts, and what I've learned so far, but I'm not an expert.
My advice would be read more, and make sure you feel comfortable with what you are going to do, before you do it.
If you are unsure about anything, ask.
You'll need to use Flashtool to flash your phone.
The second post here, from DoomLord, shows how to connect your phone in flash mode --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2440565 - Basically turn the phone off, then press volume down and connect to the PC via USB when Flashtool tells you to.
I downloaded the .534 ftf from NUT's download page which is here --> http://nut.xperia-files.com/
I downloaded this file --> http://nut.xperia-files.com/?dlid=QzY5MDNfMTQuMS5HLjEuNTM0X1tOVVRdLmZ0Zi50b3JyZW50
You have to download that with your torrent program.
If you don't know how to do that, I've uploaded the ftf to my cloud storage.
You can direct download the .534 ftf here --> https://mega.co.nz/#!mgwkAagR!6_iTB3LwVkGz6yvSaKQsEVPtyaIPq3BJGFCk1EDw9XQ
Place the .534 ftf in the c:/flashtool/firmwares folder
Make sure your phone is fully charged, and back up anything you want keeping, as flashing will wipe your phone.
Now run Flashtool, click the Flash icon (top left) and select the .534 ftf.Flashing the .534 ftf that NUT provided will prevent loss of IMEI.
Don't mess with any settings, and click Flash, and follow the instructions on screen.
That will return your phone to stock 14.1.G.1.534
Download the Z1 Locked Dual Recovery Installer from NUT's page --> http://nut.xperia-files.com/?dlid=WjEtbG9ja2VkZHVhbHJlY292ZXJ5Mi43LjEyMy1CRVRBLmZsYXNoYWJsZS56aXA=
Connect your phone to your PC and run the install.
That will root your phone, and install recovery.
From there you can then install whatever stock based ROM you want.
If you want your phone on KitKat 4.4.2, rooted, with recovery, then download the .757 files from NUT's download page.
You'd need the flashable zip --> http://nut.xperia-files.com/?dlid=QzY5MDNfMTQuMy5BLjAuNzU3LmZsYXNoYWJsZS56aXAudG9ycmVudA==
Download is via torrent.
Flash that zip from recovery.
The stripped part --> http://nut.xperia-files.com/?dlid=QzY5MDNfMTQuMy5BLjAuNzU3X1N0cmlwcGVkLmZ0Zg==
Flash that from Flashtool
That should be it.
Unless your bootloader is unlocked, do not try to flash anything other than stock based roms as it won't work, and will brick your phone.
Hope that helps :good:

I downloaded this file --> http://nut.xperia-files.com/?dlid=QzY5MDNfMTQuMS5HLjEuNTM0X1tOVVRdLmZ0Zi50b3JyZW50
You'd need the flashable zip --> http://nut.xperia-files.com/?dlid=QzY5MDNfMTQuMy5BLjAuNzU3LmZsYXNoYWJsZS56aXAudG9ycmVudA==
Download is via torrent.
Flash that zip from recovery.
The stripped part --> http://nut.xperia-files.com/?dlid=QzY5MDNfMTQuMy5BLjAuNzU3X1N0cmlwcGVkLmZ0Zg==
Flash that from Flashtool
That should be it.
Unless your bootloader is unlocked, do not try to flash anything other than stock based roms as it won't work, and will brick your phone.
Hope that helps :good:

Bootloader is unlocked I have flashed firmware before but not rooted.
My main reason for wanting to root was to get rid of apps I dont want like the google ones.
Do you already have a recovery installed?
If not, installing the Z1 locked dual recovery will also root your phone. Just make sure USB debugging is turned on, plug your phone in normally, and click install.
As per my post above, I've just flashed NUT's .534 ftf, booted up, then ran the recovery installer, and it's working well.
I can boot into recovery, and have already done a nandroid backup. Best to do that before anything else.
All I have to do now is choose a rom and flash it.
In all honesty, if your bootloader is unlocked, I'd probably flash a custom kernel which has recovery and root already. I don't know much about flashing with unlocked bootloaders as I don't intend to unlock mine just yet.
Did you backup your TA partition before unlocking?

[Q] A noob in need of help..

Hello everyone,
I am new here and I'm having really hard time going around the forums and searching for what I seek and everything is so confusing and I really need someone's help. I've never done this and it terrifies me to screw up my phone. Here's the deal, I want to root my Sony Xperia Z so I can remove the useless built in apps and maybe get a cool theme. I've been looking for threads but there are so many and I don't know which one to take, most talk about some firmware I don't even know what that is but I looked a bit on the internet and found out which is so here are my phone specs:
Sony Xperia Z
C6603
4.3 Jelly Bean
Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes
Firmware thing: 10.4.B.0.569
Any help would be appreciated, thank you so much.
Wrong section buddy. Should be in the q and a section and you can actually ask in the help thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2345372
I would love to answer your question but I'm on my phone, very limited on what I can do atm.

Welcome to xda where everyone starts off as a noob
Don't worry we all make mistakes hopefully a moderator will move it in the right place.
Now to answer your questions
a) A firmware is the software installed on your device you have got it right in your specs.
b) The method of rooting depends on the firmware. The firmware you have does not allow easy rooting.
You have two options since your bootloader can be unlocked
1) Backup your ta partition using the backup utility and store it on your computer. Unlock your bootloader and root your device by following the guide posted by cookie ninja in the xperia z
android development section
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2656698
[GUIDE][ROOT] How to Root 101 Firmware and regain LB
2) Downgrade your firmware to android 4.2.2 by flashing an FTF file using flashtool (you can find these in the development section as well) and then root using doomlords rooting toolkit. You can then upgrade to even android 4.4 by flashing any of the pre rooted roms from the development section.
All the best.

Hi
Welcome to xda
First you cant root 4.3 only if unlock bootloader and the unlock not hard but better try downgrade to 4.2.2:
Download a software called flashtool from here and install it then after install finish go to the place where you install flashtool and find folder called DRIVERS open it and you will find an exe file open it and select xperia z- flashmode drivers - fastboot drivers then install
Get an FTF file for flashtool like that
After the ftf download finish put the ftf file in "frimware" folder in the place you installed flashtool
Open flashtool then click the lighning icon
Select your downloaded FTF
After few minutes you will see screen appear says WAITING FOR FLASH MODE
Turn off you phone
Hold the volume down button then connect your phone with your pc with usb cable
After few minutes you will see your phone downgradedto 4.2.2
THIS WILL DELETE ALL YOU APPS AND DATA IN YOUR PHONE!!! So better make backup!!.the phone must charged to 80%
Now root your device with kingo root this tool not working on 4.3 that why i said must DOWNGRADE
Install CWM and TWRP recovery here
After finish get a PREROOTED ROM like this
Flash it in recovery
Now we finished
Other notes: the flashtool and FTF can repair your phone if bricked so dont panic if that happened just use the lighting icon:angel:
Hit thanks if helped

Sony smartphones are nearly impossible to hard brick, unless you restored a wrong bootloader TA partition.(the one not from your own device)
The worst case scenario which you can get is total wipeout of every data you have on your phone, so always make a backup of things you need before doing anything.
The things you will need:
1.Basic computer skills
2.Knowing the bootloader of your phone
3.Knowing how to use custom recovery (cwm or twrp)
4.Knowing how to use flashtool
5.Keep a backup of firmware files (ftf) in case anything happen
6.Always check the forum in case the old backup of something of yours won't work in your phone after you updated
Thank you guys, you're all wonderful.

If you want stock unmodded one you can do it without root. And if you want a rooted with dual recovery you will need root
But I advise you not to use stock kitkat because its lags alot and low battery life
Try those if you want:
Stock no root needed ( flash via flashtool)
Modded and fast with Root and recoveryROOT NEEDED
Thanks!

I made the mistake of unlocking my bootloader without making a backup of my TA, so make sure you don't make the same mistake. Not an issue really unless you REALLY want OTA updates.

[Q] Upgrade from 4.3 rooted to 4.4.2 doesn't work on my XZ

Hello,
I have installed a 4.3 stock-rom with root (10.4.1.B.0.101) on my C6603.
Now I want to update to 4.4.2 (10.5.A.0.230), but it doesn't work!
I can not install the original rom from Sony, OTA doesn't work and via companion it tells me I have a other software installed and upgrade is not possible!
Can anyone help me with this? Where can I get the original 4.4.2 rom to install?
Is there a way to upgrade and keep the root?
Best regards

Thanks a lot for the quick feedback, but now I have some more questions:
I have Clockworkmod 6.0.4.6 installed, is there a way to flash it via this recovery?
And is there also a german/austrian rom-version available, or is it the same with the US version?
Actually I wanted to upgrade it according to the description from doomlord here http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/cwm-based-recovery-6-0-4-6-root-xperia-t2167381 since I'm already familar with the process, but all what is missing there is the stock rom... so would it also work if I use the rom from your description and flash it via the recovery?
And will I always loose my settings and data with the update or is there a way without loosing it?
Thanks again for your support,
best regards

Okay, actually there are two questions from my side:
1. Is ist possible upgrade my existing rooted Android 4.3 to a rooted 4.4.2 without loosing my settings and data on the phone?
2. Can I achieve this by updating the stock rom and then the kernel according to the description of doomlord?
=> If yes, where can I get a german version of the Android 4.4.2 (stock rom) and how can I install it (keep point 1 in mind)?
I hope this makes my question more clear, thanks for your help again!

Okay, so that means I:
1. Flash stock Rom from your link via flashtool
and
2. Flash doomlord-kernel via recovery
and then I should have the the 4.4.2 rooted, did I understand that correct?

Thank you all for your support, I now made it!
Short summary for all who have the same problem like I had:
1. I installed the stock-rom via flashtool according first feedback from androidfreak70 in this thread and unchecked all "wipe" boxes in flashtool for that all data and settings are kept.
(Additional info: if you want to use the stock-rom supplied via sony companion, and you can like me not install it due to previous rooted ROM, follow this thread.)
As androidtweaker1 mentioned, custom recovery and root was lost, but all other data/settings are kept.
Therfore I then
2. Installed Towelroot according to this description and there we go, everything works perfect!
So thank you once again,
best regards
