its bull****, I hate when companies do crap like this, you buy their product and then they release a subjectively better version not too far down the line. I bet this version is a bigger capacity too.

Although I'm perfectly happy with my 16GB Nexus4, seeing this makes we drool just by the color itself. Now if this isn't a hoax and comes out with a huge upgrade other than storage capacity, then i'll be pissed.

It would of been nice if they gave the option of white or black at launch, but I'm happy with my current n4.
I don't think the white n4's would have been ready.

Same here, but that's what we get for being early adopters.

Hopefully the front is all black, I changed the housing on my GNex to white, and the all black minimal front looked sexy.

Then don't have it ready. Imagine if the N4 was released today, we'd probably be on a Tegra 3 or on next-gen quad-core cpu or even the Samsung rumored octa core

They still managed to keep the sparkly effect on the white phone now that's really girly lol I'll be mad if it's 32gb (which I highly doubt since they'recontinuing with sales for the 8gb) that's all I care about but there's really nothing I can do now. I love my nexus too much to sell it and potentially be without a phone because if the white comes out it'll sell out faster than the original lol.

My thought exactly. I think the N4 looks a little bit girly as it is with the sparking back, white would just be too much.

Not a fan of white, I would still get black, hands down.
Unless that one had 8 cores, 32GB RAM, and a 4000MAH battery... Then... Hmmm... <caveman> White not look so bad now. </caveman>

I can't see the sparkly back 'working' well in white.

Want a white back black front, use a ringe rearth slim snapon (personally didnt like the
upper lip) Its what mine looked like. Quick to turn yellow from hand acid soot...
If nillikin makes a white I'd recommend it over the ringe.
As for bigger capacity, ofc there will be 32 and 64gb versions. That's a given

White I'd just a little too voting for me now that I have had it on SIII. I went ahead and switched to pebble blue and am much happier with that

Do you think there will be a honami mini? Or was that just a fake? I'm really looking forward to it, as 5 inch screens just aren't my thing. If there's no mini, I might just get the iPhone 5s :/

Yes, it would be pretty nice though if Sony's was similar. I'm not a huge fan of monster sized phones and I've held the Z1 and its a monster (although a slim one).

Yeah it was a z1 pic originally I photoshopped it myself. Just wanted to see what it would look like. I could have said it was a legit pic but didnt want to get people hopes up for no reason.

Seriously speaking though... With this much component.
I won't expect a mini version of Z1 with the same specs.... Z1 alone seems a little crowded already in the inside. I can't imagine how would they cram all these internals in a 4.3inch phone.
Although it might be possible if they put 2 PCB boards inside the phone but it would make it thicker by probably 2x. Never seen a dual layered PCB phone yet...

If it comes with the same camera and same processor, I'm def getting it.
But from the picture it looks like it may not have the same camera (the lens looks slightly smaller...?)

Personally I wouldn't place too much stock in what looks like a photoshopped regular Z1 shrunk down a bit, I'd hold off for some official SONY information before deciding, that way it's based on facts rather than speculation.
You'll also need to apply a bit of common sense. I.E. to fit a body that holds a 4.3 inch screen or thereabouts, logically something will have to give.
Certainly battery capacity for sure, probably the camera module for a lesser one, then there's chipsets & RAM sizes etc too. (You didn't really think SONY will make the mini the same spec as their flagship model did you?)
For me, I'd be happy as long as it's pocketable with a 720p screen
lesser camera module (if I want to take GOOD pics I'll use a proper camera thank you) or the QX10 add - on
2Gigs RAM
I'd go with a snapdragon 600 if necessary
Lesser battery isn't a huge issue, as the screen isn't a 5 inch full HD power sucker, you may find the battery longevity to be similar despite a smaller capacity.

Looks like it comes with exact same processor, ram, camera and the dust/water proof.

Thanks for your initial impressions.
The battery should improve after a few more cycles, so give it some time. Others have reported good initial battery performance, which is interesting.
Early shots taken with the N5 looked really sharp and fairly comparable to the iPhone 5s. Can you elaborate where it fell short of expectations?
If the back plastic is anything like the N7, I think the feel of it is really nice and comfortable. Frankly it's a probably a better choice than having a glass back and is also part of the reason why it's so light. I don't mind this =)

How people test out battery life early on is beyond me....
It takes a full week for battery to adjust in my experience (and many times it gets WAY better in that week span).

With a review like this you should have just piggy backed off of someone elses thread.

I really hope the battery isn't terrible since coming from my Note 2 I got spoiled.

We're just giving him **** because we're sick and tired of seeing stupid posts like these on the forums.
This is also not a matter of elitism or ganging up on newer members.
Anybody can write a generic, two-bit review like this one.
If you're going to post a review, have some substance and be scientific about it.
Tell us what you did on your device, what apps you have on. Don't just write oh battery sucks.
Most people just have the common courtesy to keep it in an existing thread so we don't have to see a hundred of these type of these "new posts" everyday.
The next thing you know, somebody is going to write oh the nexus 5 has such **** terrible voice quality - oh I forgot to mention I called from a dead zone in the middle of nowhere.

My review for the day one:
Positives:
-great design and shape
-screen and natural colours
-love the white "plastic" material, rather feels like ceramic tile of some sort, not plastic. great build
-speedy and responsive
Negatives:
-battery is main concern, didnt last me from 9 am to 6pm with moderate usage
-slow charging
-kitkat lacking in features and settings
-context menu missing on some apps
-3 main screen buttons (on the bottom of the screen) still taking valuable space
Will give it a go a bit longer, not making any rush decisions

GS4 owner just got a Nexus 5, and its great

The Nexus 5 looks big in pictures but is actually smaller than my galaxy s4 with a very thin case on the G4. And the Nexus doesn't need a case because the back is is rubbery and grippy, beautiful! Also, it feels absolutely premium in terms of build quality and materials.
The screen is brilliant, bar none the best I've ever seen. And better than my iPhone 5.
The camera shutter sound is very subtle, in fact I'll keep it on
The navigation keys are a lot closer so it's a lot easier to use one handed.
Speaker phone is awesome: loud and clear.
Needless to say the phone overall is as fast as all hell.
Nexus 5 screen is vastly easier to read in direct sunlight
Where does the Galaxy s4 beat the Nexus? So far all I've found is the speaker volume, which seems to be a little low when playing videos. That and the replaceable battery and memory card slot.
Its my first day with the Nexus 5, and so far, so good.
Just thought I'd give a little feedback for those of you who are on the fence about switching. I have both at the moment, but my S4 may soon be on Craigslist.

I've only taken a hand full of photos, but so far the camera looks very good. Plenty of detail and great white balance.

I've been considering switching as well - but there's a few things that keep me on the fence. The S4 has AMOLED (which I prefer to IPS, but subjective) and removable battery/microsd. And the battery is larger on the S4.
But as the other user asked, how is the camera? Apparently it's not as good due to flawed software, but there IS image stabilization. Hmm...

When you put the Nexus 5 next to the galaxy s4 with both at full brightness , the Galaxy looks muted, fuzzy, dim. Take your phone to a Best Buy or Sprint store and have a look for yourself.

Was thinking about switching myself, but I've heard mixed things about the camera. I'd have to test it myself in person before I could make a decision

I used to get all anal about about the cameras too until I realize that all I ever use the snaps for is Facebook. I have real cameras for when I get serious.

The saturation is a bit over the top at default settings, but otherwise they look good to me.

Time will tell about the battery life. Some have said it's so so, and others have said it last for days between charges.

I might get the nexus. But with the wobbly buttons. Non removable battery and no Sim slot. Plus dead pixels and light leakage among other problems that's kind of scary for a phone that's just been release

Once again, minor upgrades from its predecessor. I have a gs3 and I still won't be upgrading to the gs5. Right now I'm leaning towards the Z2, unless LG or HTC can surprise me. Samsung is the new Apple.

It doesn't look too much different than the s4, very disappointed. Everything else looks up to par but I was expecting something different. The s3 which was their best selling device, customers are due for an upgrade. IMO it was imperative for Samsung to push the envelope and correct some of the constant criticisms the s phones have received. They hit a home run with the s3, the s4's sales were dismal at best now was the time. Software and hardware look good but it seems the build quality will be questionable as usual. Touchwiz looks the same. I wonder how locked down this phone will be. Most likely I will be buying one as I did with all the previous models. The m8 might have to come first though.

Never believe any tech blogs BEFORE an announcement.
Most were reporting 2k resolution, 3GB RAM and 3200mAH battery.

That gold is disgusting lol. Wow Samsung really screwed this one up. Do the powers to be not read forums or have access to what customers want. I don't get it this has been one of the most anticipated phones and since they announced it today its been getting ripped apart.

BGR jumped the gun and put up those specs about 5 minutes before the event started. BGR is the most unreliable tech source lately. They used to be great at scooping things back in the day.

I like new look, blue abd gold one looks nice, better than iPhone or Sony. I really like live hdr mode and fast auto focus. I want live hdr on my phone and this new ui it loojs nicer.
Water resistant is cool thing. But people remember its not waterproof dont swim with it, like lots of people with their S4Active, then they cried. Hope they improved usb flap port cover.
I laughed when they said that we customers want better KNOX, maybe when it wouldn't void our warranties when counter is triggered it would be ok. But I am disappointed that it has only 2gh RAM. With all that samsung stuff running in background sometime its not enough. And it would need better colling system.

I don't particularly like the design. As mentioned before, it really isn't much of a change from the S3 and S4. I'm excited to get the full resolution wallpaper though, I like the looks of that!
