[Q] OneNote question! - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
Does anyone here use OneNote on a win 8.1 tablet? I have a question...
I like to have 2 windows side by side and make notes ... writing with the pen.
eg a pdf or internet open left hand side, and note app on right
so i can make notes about what i'm reading
but also i need to copy paste selected text/images/cut outs (can do this on a samsung galaxy note no problem)
is it possible / easy on onenote?
oh! also - does onenote now have effective palm detection so i can lean on the screen without activating it?
thx for any help!!!

Windows (not OneNote in particular) should disable the touchscreen when it detects the stylus in proximity (usually this means within about half an inch). If it isn't doing so, check the control panel.
For copying from one program to another, I know what you're asking about works perfectly on the desktop version of OneNote. I don't know for sure about the "Modern" version, because seriously, who uses that crap?

Password Manager with Sync?

Can anyone recommend a secure password manager for my kaiser that will;
1) sync via Windows Mobile Device center to a desktop companion, and
2) work with Vista.
I have for years used SplashID however it does not play well with this combo. I am finding having to manually initiate syncs with the RAPI Sync version to be a pain.
E-wallet. Has it's own sync, but uses the activesync connection to update the Kaiser. You can set up the E-wallet desktop companion to sync whenever you connect.
Handango.com
SPB Wallet is also a nice one!
I've tested many of those wallet applications and I like eWallet by Iliumsoft most. Specially the future development on this wallet seems to be the most professional. You can try it out: www.iliumsoft.com

Thanks Fella's. That will give me a few to try out.
Secret!
Secret! works very well! Secret! Desktop 5.1 works well on Windows Vista now (testet with Device Center 6.1)
see http://www.linkesoft.com/secret/
Does splashid not work then? I too have used it for years, on an iPAQ PDA. Have just got a TyTN II and was going to transfer it onto it. However, I have not used my iPAQ for a year or so now (been using a Nokia N73), and have also upgraded to vista in that time. My version of splashid is probably well out of date too.
I use AI RoboForm. Works good for me.

Here's another vote for the KeePass combination. I use this myself.

all these password managers have one flaw imho: they focus more on form than on function. all these icons and stuff... at least i do not need that.
http://www.linkesoft.com/
offers a very "non shiny" yet very functional password manager with nice "small" yet helpful features:
data entering in txt-style, desk top application available (no icons and stuff)
automatic copy and paste
TAN or OTP management (at least interesting for german online banking)
collapsing paragraphs for better overview
read-only-mode for preventing accidental overwriting
easy backup: all in one file
i think, that is all you need to have!

Way, how to syncronize files from internal memory?

Hi everyone,
is there any way how to set up syncronization between ActiveSync @ PC and internal memory on my Diamond?
Thank you
bit of a noob question but i'll give it a go (No offense meant by the way)
No.
You cant set up an automatic sync to the internal storage as far as i know, not through activesync anyway
When you select to sync files, it will sync to the 'My Documents' folder in the main storage.
You can of course explore the phone through activesync and then manually move files back and forward.
the other way would be to plug the device in as a memory stick (the phone will pop up and ask you this when you plug it in), and use some thrid party app to auto sync to folders. I think microsoft do a powertoy for XP and possibly for vista that does this. it was desgined to keep USB keys and removeable hard drives updated, but you could use it for any removable storage device really...
have a look here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx, it is sync toy that you might want to have a look at.

Thank you very much sir, i've tried this app from Microsoft and it can be used as i expected... Hope that in the future it will be not necessary to switch the device always to mass storage, but thank you anyway
Better app what i've found is Allway Sync (8.1.1)...
Those who had same problem as me, highly recommended!
The Touch Diamond does not show the WM screen rotation under settings so we can't manually set rotation for apps like Word, SMS. Here is how to enable it. After you've done the hack, run the app you want to rotate (eg. Word Mobile), then do Start, Settings, System, Screen to set rotation to landscape. The onscreen keyboard is much larger in landscape! When you click the HOME key it will go back to portrait.
Enable Manual Screen Rotation (Portrait/Landscape):
HKLM - System - GDI - Rotation - HideOrientationUI (change from 1 to 0)
Change is immediate effectively. No reboot is required.
Does anyone have Office Mobile being REEEALLLY SLOW to the point of being ridiculously unusable? Searched online but not much info on this. It would take a minute or so to open a 100K Word attachment in my email. Recommendation on http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-302108.html is to replace Word Mobile template with Pocket PC 2003 version, but I don't have this.
I went back to hack #1 and reversed the recommended change "file system filter cache to 131072" and went back to the factory default which I think is "disabled". The performance of Office Mobile increased substantially and is now usable. HTC Album seems good now too. Stability and speed on restarting the diamond is better too. Previously it would sometimes hang at "Tap here to launch TouchFlo".
Can someone who also has slow Word Mobile / Office Mobile / HTC Album reproduce this and confirm?

You can't do that with Activesync unfortunately but you can with a program called Soti Pocket Controller http://soti.net - also its has other features which is sorely need for pocket pc users
Its not free tho

a good "Note" application ?

I don't like the microsoft note application I have. It's very slow (it takes a long time to open, and each time I close a note it takes again a long time).
Does anyone know a good "Notes" application other than the microsoft one ?
Thanks !
Are you talking about the default note app that comes with Windows mobile, or Microsoft's One Note? One Note used in conjunction with the desktop app is hard to beat.
I'm talking about the default note application that comes with Windows Mobile.
Look into Onenote, unless your looking for a cheap/free app. You can get a free trial to see if you like it. Onenote on the phone by itself isn't that valuable without the desktop app. I do a lot of research and I like to compose on the desktop what I might need in the field. Onenote fits my needs perfectly. It might not be a fit for yours though.
Or consider phatpad, phatnotes or Daynotez
OneNote Mobile is too basic for me, although the desktop version looks astonishing.
You may also consider Phatpad, Phatnotes or daynotez. All three are excellent applications, but all with a twist that makes each of them great, depending what your needs are. I've bought daynotez and phatpad. Would've bought phatnotes too, if the integration with phatpad was just slightly better
Vito Audionotes is also fantastic. That's what I use. You can even record phone conversations.
Webis note2self is great. Talk your note and mail it to yourself ;-) Easy as that.

I tried both "phatnotes for outlook" and "phatpad", they are very good but there's a big problem : you can't sync the notes using Outlook.
Even the "phatnotes for Outlook" application needs to first import all of your notes (with tabulation or comma problems ...) before syncing them with Outlook.
In fact I need a "notes" application which would be able to simply use the same notes as the microsoft notes application and sync them with Outlook...
But with no "import" needed (because imports caused me many problems).
Does anybody know one ?
Thanks again for everyone answers ...!
Here's my fav: http://free.hostingjava.it/-frusso/pda/frNotepad
It saves notes in plain txt (.txt) just like Notepad on your pc.
Evernote ?
The app is free (but to a certain storage level a month) and the ink note taking is OK. Text one is sub-OneNote Mobile however. Killer is that it syncs up to "the cloud" so your notes arevailable on web, windows or mac as well as Mobile.
Worth a look. IMHO nothing can touch PhatPad/Notes for function, but in today's world of connectivity, it is poor on being able to sync and share.

Because you didn't say what the long-term use of the application might be, I'd second the vote for PhatNotes. I use it on desktop and PPC and love it. The notes do, in fact, synchronize. However they do it on their own, not within the confines of Outlook. For this "inconvenience" it offers a very robust feature set, with only the one-time trouble of having to do some reformatting.
So, if you can get past that, I think that PhatNotes may be what you want.

A few questions

This post contains a few questions I have after a week or so using my Touch Diamond, about issues I've not seen mentioned on this or other boards.
1) When I hold phone then speak to phone a contact, it repeats the contacts name (ie plays the sample of my voice it used to identify the contact). Can I turn that playback off?
2) Sometimes holding the bottom right key (end call) does nothing, or just moves the touchflo 3d selection to the right, instead of locking the phone. It seems to do this more often if I've been using the phone to surf etc, and less if I've just used it for a few seconds, as if it's busy (although it's responsive in every other respect)
3) In the messaging app, under the top line of text, I can choose between:
Gmail
Outlook E-mail
SMS \ MMS
I'd like to remove the Outlook line - I never use it - it's just Gmail or text messages for me. Can I do this?
4) When I use Fring to do Instant Messaging (which doesn't seem to pick up on all my contacts for some reason - any idea why?) it will enable and use Wifi, even if it was turned off. But if I load Opera it'll not re-enable Wifi but will simply use my phone provider (ie 3G, GPRS etc). Is there any way of getting Opera (or any app, if that's easier) to enable Wifi when loaded. I want to use it for speed, and to reduce my data usage via my phone provider, but I don't want to pay the price in battery life.
5) Has anyone had any success in using their Touch Diamond to connect to a network (Ubuntu, using Samba, or Windows - I'm not bothered which)? Surely it should be possible?
6) Can I make Opera and not Internet Explorer the default app for .html files and links in emails/text messages?
7) Has anyone had any luck getting java applets working from web pages in Opera (or Internet Explorer, as a last resort)? I can get regular midlets working in the stand alone Java client thing, but I need to be able to log into secure sites using my phone and the sites use little Java apps.
I'm sure I had another question or two but it's late and I can't remember, so this should keep you going for now!
Thanks in advance.
Too many questions!
I'll answer number 5: Yes you can connect to a network share using a program called Network Plugin or, even better, Resco Explorer, although that one isn't free. I've only used it for Windows XP shares so far.
I'll answer number 2!
Do you use a rubberized case similar to the one in my avatar? I've come to realize that it somehow prevents the talk/end keys from functioning properly (same behavior - itll think im either trying to go left or right in tf3d). Removing the case fixes the problem for me. Sounds silly I know, but when I realized that it was the rubber case, I couldn't stop banging my head.
If you're not using a case of some sort, then I have no clue
I'll asnwer number 2 as well.
Had the same problem. I think it's a kinda bug.
Solved it with the new Rom 2.30.

[Q] Galaxy Note, S Pen & Citrix Receiver or Vmware View client

Hello,
I have a very strange problem with my new Galaxy Note (2.3.6) when using either Citrix Receiver or VMWare view client to access to a remote workplace environment:
- Both clients are working fine when I use the touch screen with my fingers
- When I try to use the S Pen :
* when I touch the screen with the S Pen it is working fine
* but when I don't touch the screen but put my S Pen NEAR the screen...what is happening is exactly the same as if I press the "DELETE" key on my keyboard
Meaning that if I have a text file open in notepad or word, the text starts to disappear under the S Pen when I put the S Pen near the screen Even worse with Outlook open : my messages disappear under my S PEN!
I understand that the S Pen is in a way an "active" component that can trigger my phone even if I don't press the screen, but why my Citrix Receiver and my VMWare View client understand "DELETE Key?!?"
Do someone have the same problem? Is there a way to fix it?
My S Pen seems to work fine with the Memo Galaxy Note App...
Regards.
I am having the same problem, though I did not think it was the s-pen causing the issue. I moved the pen away from the phone and everything was fine. As soon as I moved it back, messages became deleted! My employer uses citrix so I'll see if we can escalate the issue to them!
Talked with my IT department, we are running a very old version of citrix, and probably won't be upgrading.
