[Q] What is an UNLOCK Code ? - LG Optimus Black

Hi,
I bought a second-hand LG P970h from someone.
I am a customer of carrier "X" (not real name).
I have inserted my sim card to the phone, but the phone did not recognize it. So I can't use it for calls, messages and etc.
I checked in the web and I understood that my carrier blocked the phone for use with its sim cards because the device was reported as stolen.
I tried to convince the carrier to open the device but I did not succeed.
I tried to insert to the phone a sim card from other carrier, and it's worked fine.
So... what can I do now ?
I want to stay in my carrier and to use the phone.
Is there any way to do that ?
I have read a little about UNLOCK Code... is that the solution ?
Thanks a lot.

Do not buy stolen phones! Your phone could be the next one.
I am sorry, but is not ethical.

The phone may very well have been lost or left somewhere by the original owner, or it may have outright been stolen. Either way, the original owner reported it as lost/stolen.
You have a lost/stolen phone in your possession. If your current carrier "called you out" on the issue, good for them! I'm glad someone actually tracks this stuff. Ideally the phone should be returned to the original owner, because he/she took a soaking on the cost of a replacement phone.
If you can find a carrier that doesn't care, then you'd better get a plan with them for that phone.
I'd also find a more ethical "someone" to buy used items from.
There's no bad on you at this point. You're not the first guy to get ripped off. But continuing onward with something that you know is probably stolen just isn't right.

It can be unlocked with technician
You would check phone thoroughly before buying..

operators in Brazil
use the phone lock code (sim card band)
That does not mean that it is stolen ...
to unlock the use of all bands sim card, needed a software that generates a code w / unlock permanent
some carriers do not release the software or request "note fiscal" ...
if enter the wrong code will often lock the phone permanently
sorry bad english

I'm learning ...

Change IMEI

I have a voice together a data plan fo my Touch HD, on the same SIM card. When I bought it the person of the cellphone company had told me that I may use the SIM on my phone and on a unlocked USB minimodem. For my surprise, I tried it and there is no signal using the minimodem. I contacted the cellphone company and they told me that I cannot use the same SIM on the minimodem. I think it's unfare. And I think the signal is blocked when I put the SIM on the minimodem through the miimodem IMEI. So, If I change its IMEI to the same of my Touch HD, I'll be able to use the SIM also on my minimodem, right? I don't think it's illegal because the SIM is mine, the minimodem is mine, the cellphone is mine and I'm not gonna use it for illegal purpses (like clone other persons phone), and because when I was just to take the plan they told me one thing and when I had taken it they told me another thing.
My question: does anyone know a way for changing my data card IMEI? It's a Huawei E156.
Thank you all!
Well - if it's legal or not is obviously going to depend upon what country you're in - but odds are it's illegal.
It is illegal to change the imei on any phone.
Whether for thievery or for innocent purposes ( as yours appears to be ), it is against forum rules to solicit help in changing imei's or other illegal behavior on this forum.

Wow not locked yet?
maybe im worngbut i thought the changing of imeis was illaegal only in certain countries

What're talking about ?

[Q] got a d3 today but issues about country

hi today my bro purchased a d3 which is not activated its a verizon one....so the seller told him that he can activate the phone from his verison sim and then ask them the unlock code to use it outside of usa...
so my bro is gona send me that phone to india so is it gona work or we screwd up lol...
or is there any possible way to make phone work phone is stil in usa and now what shold be done ?hope it works in india
What GSM frequencies does your carrier use? I think the only restrictions on GSM are US carriers/
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
freq
GSM 900 5 carriers
GSM 900/1800 these i found from google.. here i phone 4 works
and the bands of i phone 4 and d3 are nearly similar i think
i phone 4 -GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA 850/900/1900/2100
d3-GSM 850/900/1800/1900 (Quadband) HSDPA 850/1900/2100
i hope it works...
and one more thing the phone which my bro has is still inactive the seller told tat he called up verizon and took unlock code and inserted it in phone but m not sure he did ....becoz if he did then how is phone still unactivated so m kinda so confsued...hope some one explains me...
I'm going to assume you are not in the U.S. due to your English. If your local carrier has provided you a SIM card, just plug it in the Droid 3 and see if it works.
If the phone is locked for foreign carrier and requires an unlock by Verizon, then you're screwed because you won't be able to call Verizon to unlock it for you (being that you're not in U.S. and not a Verizon customer).
As for calling Verizon to activate the phone, that's for Verizon customers in the U.S.
...
i dont have the phone yet my bro will receive in two days.and then he will send me. so how can he check weather its unlocked or not?...the seller told us tat he have put up the unlock code and even has given the unlock code...
but i doubt becoz the phone is not yet activated...the phone is still in shipping my bro will receive it in 2-3 days....
so my questions are
1)what sim card should he use to check there in usa
2)the phone is not activated so is it necessary that my brother activate that phone with his number? or without activation can a phone be used with a gsm service sim card.....
3) and i am confused can a phone be unlocked without phone being activated?

1) Phone will not work on GSM in USA no matter what SIM card you put in. Your brother must really try to unlock it before he sends it over to you since some cannot be unlocked without Verizon providing the code and you may be stuck with a non-unlockable phone (useless). Get your brother purchase unlock code online and try it (by inserting any non-Verizon sim card inside). If phone unlocks you are good to go. If code doesn't work, he either needs to have it activated on a non-new postpaid account that has been in good standing for at least 60 days and request Verizon to provide the unlock code, or to return the phone and try another one.
2) no activation is needed if you are going to use the phone on GSM outside USA
3) phone can be unlocked without being activated with Verizon, but this might be a tough thing to do since Verizon altered intentionally unlock code of some of the handsets.

He should use an international SIM card to check.

I can't tell you if activation is needed. I've had an iPhone 4S (Verizon) unlocked, but it was already activated when I proceeded. Verizon did require me to tell them the phone number for the phone I wanted to unlock, so it might have to be activated.

This seems to be same question as #2.
I called Verizon and told them I wanted to unlock my wife's iPhone 4S for use in Taiwan. They forwarded me to the global department, and the rep told me to hold on the line while he unlocks the phone.
After he said it was unlocked, I tried my wife's sister's international SIM card in the phone. The phone didn't ask for an unlock code, but the SIM card did, since the sister had set a code. She knew the code though, and after putting it in, the SIM was accepted. We won't know if it's for sure working until she brings the phone to Taiwan, but it appears to be working.

SIM card unlocking... why would I have to buy a code

I don't actually need to unlock my SIM I am just simply curious as to what would prevent us from unlocking it without purchasing a code. My reason for asking this is since our device is now bootloader unlocked and rooted why can't we flash something that would unlock the SIM if that information Is stored in a filesystem somewhere or since it is android that the dialog box pops up when you insert a foreign SIM card into the phone simply write an application the emulates the behavior of that application and thereby unlock the SIM. I'm most likely thinking about this wrong but I am just curious. Does it have to do with an encryption that is too difficult or too time consuming to circumvent? Or is it illegal to do this without purchasing a code? Or is there something I am missing?
Thank you and sorry if I wasted your time.

I'm pretty sure the reason why, is because the company you bought the phone from (in our case, AT&T) has to give those people the code, to give to you. I always figured the reason we couldn't do it ourselves is because it has to be done by the network. I.E send a signal to the phone via a tower, telling the phone it's now SIM unlocked. If someone would correct me if I'm wrong, that'd be nice, lol.

I would say you're wrong. People in India and South America have bought codes and unlocked their phones. AT&T's signal doesn't reach that far ...

Ah, okay, haha.
I'm not gonna pretend to know everything about the sim unlock process, but the sim unlock code sends a signal to your phone's radio that tells it "its ok to listen to other signals now". Put in the wrong code too many times and it won't accept codes anymore. Some of the older phone/radio combos could be software unlocked...meaning as long as you ran the right combo of radio, firmware, and executables it would unlock itself...also had to do some wacky steps for some phones.

How to UNLOCK SIM card blacklisted T-Mobile Galaxy S8?

I bought Galaxy S8 on Ebay. It turned out that he was on the blacklist. Is there any solution for unlocking the SIM card. I'm outside the US ...
IMEI repair.
IMEI repair is not even an option for this model, because it need the device to be ROOTED. However, there is another option you can try. I never try this my self, you should try IMEI cleaning service, it's not like imei repair, it just remove the blockage, and you still be able to have the original IMEI ( i don't think you can use it on the same carrier). Word of advise, never buy new release carrier phone on ebay, mostly because of scam like that.

Will device unlock app work when imei is cleaned or whitelisted or repaired? Do you have specific knowledge on this issue? Sim unlock on Tmobile has been a pain since like 2 months ago. Nobody able to offer service again except Tmobile.

I was worse off, I bought the device from a user that was unlocked from T-mobile. Assumed unlocked = bills paid (yeah I know, stupid me). Worked for a little bit on AT&T and then the phone notified me that it was only a temporary unlock (didn't even know this existed), relocked itself, and also was blacklisted (on T-mobile). There's a service here that seems to have good reviews but of course a little to rich for me right now. http://www.ebay.com/itm/T-Mobile-Un...446916?hash=item41ca551184:g:gLoAAOSw8GtZOww8

S8 T-Mobile blacklisted
So, did anybody found the way to unlock the Samsung s8 tmobile blacklisted??? :crying:
So T-mobiles policy is if the phone is not paid off an account goes past due - gets canceled not paid or reported lost or stolen or if not traded back in from warranty or insurance then it is blacklisted..... just so everyone is aware. If that phone is blacklisted it is likely one of those things I would like to point out eBay has buyer protection in place for that you can contact them if the seller doesn't rectify it firs. Also to the people suggesting IMEI Repair for no nefarious purpose, of course, you would likely need a bootloader unlock and proper root to even do that.
do a search on the web for R-SIM 11
I know it can unlocked blacklisted iphones, not sure it is works on android devices
Blacklisted
Does anyone know what function needs to be turned off for the blacklist to be undone, i have found the phone code that gets me into that part of the phone i just dont know what part i need to turn off to undo the block anyone know that by chance.
unlock s8
hi,
i bought an s8 from ebay, it was at first working w/ mint (which runs on t-mobile) but when i took it outside of the US, it wouldn't work. i contacted T-Force & was told that the imei was clean but needed to talk to accounting or some other dept to see if it had a balance to be paid or something which didn't make any sense to me.
if anyone has encountered this situation please let me know how to resolve it, i tried changing the rom but it didn't work.

Carrier Locked? Sim Locked? UICC Locked? What state is my phone in?

I bought an SM-N960U used off of letgo about a month ago now and I have been trying to get it to work for me but I am still having a few issues.
The guy I bought it from, who himself bought it used, was using it on T-Mobile and I am able to make and receive calls okay and get internet okay with Verizon. The phone was originally a Sprint phone. It continuously gave me "Activation was Unsuccessful" fullscreen messages repeatedly until I used adb to disable com.sec.omadmspr and com.sprint.ms.smf.services.
When swapping SIMS from different carriers the phone DOES NOT ask for an UNLOCK code.
When I first got the phone I tried to call Sprint and ask if the phone was Carrier locked thinking that if there was a small amount owed or something perhaps I could pay it and UN-Carrier Lock the phone... Well, that didn't go well. Since I wasn't on the account and couldn't provide the name or phone number of the old owner they wouldn't tell me if there was OR wasn't a carrier lock on the phone. Eventually I got them to take the IMEI but they still told me nothing.
So, I've been using the phone daily for about a month now, but because of it's problems (the app that won't run) I still have to carry my old phone as well. This phone is always on Roam. One time when trying to fix it I dialed the *228 PRL update number. That was a mistake. It broke my internet to the point where NO ONE was able to fix it. I went to a Verizon stone. No help. I called customer service. No help. They transferred me to Tech Support.... finally they had me swap in one of my older SIM cards and they programmed that one to work.
TLDR; The phone works with VZW voice and data, but is always on roaming, some apps refuse to work properly, under UICC Unlock the phone says it is locked to Sprint Sims and sometimes the data connection drops and it says it doesn't work because of "Data Roaming" being disabled.
What version of locked is my phone? Is it safe to start flashing it?

you probably has nothing to do with your problem but it may be of some help if you contact the guy mentioned in this thread for the LG V20, it's a guy that works for sprint and you can contact him on the Sprint Users forums ..
He may be able to help you with the sim unlocking of your phone, there's nothing to lose I think!
give it a shot ... look at this thread and then register for an account on the Sprint Forums and look for the guy..

You need to contact the person who sold you the device and ask them for assistance. As they may need to contact Sprint to activate the device and unlock it for you.

They don't want to make it easy for people to re-purpose stolen phones. There are things a legitimate owner can do in order to make a phone ready for re-sale, and it sounds like these things didn't happen for the phone you bought. It all sounds a bit fishy, doesn't it?

Thanks, but if I thought "it sounds a bit fishy" I probably wouldn't have bought the used phone in the first place... and I certainly wouldn't have called Sprint and given them the IMEI and asked them; the people that could render my phone a useless brick, with one tiny bit of information, for help. Each smart phone I've bought in the last few years has been used because frankly to me it seems to be the best way to buy them financially. $1000 the day they come out or $200 - $300 6 - 12 months later used.

Point is, when someone is about to buy a used phone from a stranger, make sure it is factory reset and then immediately call the carrier and confirm the IMEI is clean and that it has been carrier unlocked, else, don't buy it. Obviously it's not advice for you, since you already did it the wrong way. This is a good lesson for posterity.
