[Q] Downgrade for root? - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a problem with all xperia stock roms with the mediaserver process. It is always running while I listen to music (which is a lot of time) and drains a lot of battery (up to 65%). Though I use poweramp player which is totally independent of the process (own library and decoder). There must be some process to improve soundquality or something like it. On my Desire S on CM11 I don't have the issue this is why I want to move to a custom rom. I'm on 4.3 now (was hoping this would fix the issue) and want to root and full backup with keys for warranty purposes and then move to a custom rom.
Is it right that I have to downgrade first, since there is no root for 4.3 yet? If yes, what ROM? I have a C5303 and don't know what version I had previously. I bought it in Switzerland without SIMlock or any branding. Is there a way I can find out what my previous version was or can I basically just use any generic C5303 version?
Would you recommend 12.0.A.1.284 in order to be able to use DoomLords rootkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...3#post42701183 ?
It's just that I don't know if I ever was on this version, also regarding warranty...
I know, many questions and I opened a new thread jst for this. I tried to find help in other threads, but didn't. I just reached a point where I don't seem to get further without asking. I tried to be as specific as possible and hope someone can clarify some of them.
Thanks in advance!

Answers to all the questions:
- Mediaserver will always run when media is being played (music/movie) this also happend on my Galaxy S+ with CyanogenMod
- Rooting can be done by downgrading back to 4.1.2 stock 254 is good... (see my how to about flashing), root is with doomlords method
- Version of 4.1.2 doenst matter you can use a Generic one if you want. Some versions have some extra bloatware

If you deactivate some apps/processes like SondFX (and possibly SoundFX) and use a player I think you can listen to music it without mediaserver.
(some more on that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2116076)
With my desire s it actually already isn't active without deactivating anything. just by using poweramp. I can listen to music 8 hours without using more than 20% battery or so. What I get with my SP is just frustrating since I bought it for the nice battery size-processor relation...
Thank you very much for your reply!

So you could disable soundFX (Dutch Geluidsverbeteringen) and try again?? I've disabled it and altho the music is not as nice as i had it with soundfx it still plays.. I'll perform some extra tests.. This is interesting

flashing .284 wouldn't be a good option?! because then I could use DoomLords flashtool directly without having to do the workaround....

Doesnt matter if you flash 254 and follow the tutorial

Flashing 4.2.2 over 4.3

Hi guys,
I just want to ask if it is possible to flash any 4.2.2 Rom over a 4.3 one without changing the Bootloader or Modem (as far as I know kernel there are no other things updated in 4.3 except some features in stock Rom and kernel). I'm sorry if there is a thread like this one out there but I couldn't find it on my phone app
Thanks in advance for your time and help

It's because I like to have all the possibilities to personalise nz phone, and Roms like MIUI won't get 4.3 support in the next time it's just my opinion

4.3's stock kernel sucks hard. I've experienced "unexpectedly closed" errors with certain apps and the device sometimes reboots itself without apparent reason. Had to flash the latest franco's nightly kernel in order to get this faulty release somewhat stable.
Nice GoinGoogle.
deleted
It is possible with custom recovery, not possible with fastboot without updating the bootloader. You may use any modem. You need 4.3 kernel.
EDIT: my bad, it was other way around. Yes, it is possible.
4.3 stinks like hot garbage. I'm not upgrading, and I'm going to downgrade my new N7 to 4.2.2 if possible. 4.3 is like windows ME.
I still have 4.2.2 on my N4 and have only tried 4.3 on my Kindle Fire. From my experience I have little interest in upgrading my N4 for the time being, since 4.3.x will likely fix all the JSS and JWR issues.

I think your problem is caused by your usage pattern / apps which are not updated for 4.3, combined with unstable root. Don't blame Google unless you experience the same behaviour on unrooted stock.

Wrong.
I experienced those crashes while on stock, even with google applications. that's a faulty release, not faulty device nor usage. for god sake, even "settings" menu has "unexpectedly closed" on me once.

I have had totally different experience with 4.2.2. To be honest I didn't like it at all. I didn't find it as "rock solid" as many other users here. (I came from Galaxy Nexus. Android 4.2 compared to really rock solid jzo54k 4.1.2 was imo buggy as hell. It didn't bring any performance boost but rather did the opposite: BT, WIFI issues, mem leak etc.) Plus I found this low touch sensitivity extremaly irritating. I use rooted stock 4.3 and so far I haven't noticed any bigger issues. Even if I do I really don't see a point to go back to still buggy 4.2.2. I think my device performs much better on 4.3. Maybe it's just a placebo effect, but it feels snappier and smoother. Just my subjective opinion.
Of course I do understand people that miss their favorite custom roms, whose 4.3-versions are still unavailable.
4.2.2 had and has clearly wifi/bt issues (major data stalls, difficulties in re-enabling bt after 20-30 hours of uptime).
These issues were solved. however, I'd expect 4.3 to be as stable as it can be, especially when it took more than 5 months for its release. Unfortunately, that's not the case. not even close, which is rather embarrassing.
I really was expecting for iOS-like smoothness and stability by now.

Maybe that's been your experience but my experience has been the exact opposite. It's made my N4 even more of a pleasure to use. It's smoother, snappier, and battery life is amazing. Mind you, I've never really had any problems with 4.2.2 except maybe GPS locking problems, which 4.3 solved. The only real problem with 4.3 is this whole JWR/JSS nonsense.

Not sure what's going on your end but my phone has been rock solid with no FCs at all since upgrading to 4.3 using the factory image (I never go the OTA route)
In case you're both running a stock 4.3 (unrooted), you're more than welcomed to run "angry gran run - running game" by ace viral and watch it boldly & proudly crash. If not on beginning, after few minutes. Just only one example out of many.

Not sure if this is the right place but here goes.
I am on AOKP milestone 1 might update to milestone 2 soon. But what do I have to keep in mind when making the jump to 4.3? Will I be able to downgrade later without problems? I dont understand the modems and bootloader stuff. Plus if I flash 4.3 I will lose root, so how do I flash 4.3 without loosing root? do I root the phone again after flashing? or is there a shortcut?

You can flash a 4.3 rom in recovery, but its recommended to flash radio and bootloader in recovery.

Android 4.3 ROMs require radio version .84 (or a hybrid 27/84 or 33/84 radio) and bootloader version makoz20i. As Thibaultvw points out radio version .84 and bootloader version makoz20i are both available as flashable zip files and should both be installed before installing a 4.3 based ROM. In addition, Android 4.3 requires SuperSU version 1.51 for working root privileges.
After upgrading the radio and bootloader for Android 4.3, you can restore or install an Android 4.2.2 ROM without changing the bootloader or radio.

The latest (12.1.A.1.201) is a little better on ram but still not that good
There is no real way to root except by downgrading to 4.1 then upgrading via CWM
Wiping apps from rom is never a good Idea, tho if u have root u can play around with low memory killers and OOM'S but i suggest u stay away from em if ur a newbie
If you are looking for performance i suggest go back to 4.1
But if u are okay with a little lag, and optimizing the phone, then root and stay on 4.3 (also if u want the UI of 4.3). There are some guides to speed up ur phone on 4.3 i believe
For me i am unrooted on 4.3, but i have disabled heavy ram eating apps like google play services, google play store, maps and etc, still it is no way near what i can get from root
I have told u i believe all ways, it is your choice for what u want now

Greetings,
Today I was charging my S3 (i9305) and turned off the power. I later discovered that my phone was still on even though I had turned it off. I found out that when charging my phone with the power off it rebooted my phone. I don't know if it's a problem with the Rom or phone. Help would be appreciated. (I have attached a picture of what my phone gets stuck on before it reboots). Thanks.

Hi,
Im not sure but maybe this is the old bootloader issue..are you on new or old bootloader? and have you installed agni kernel that comes by default with the rom? cause i thought that the reboot issue only was present in the boeffla kernels for this rom, which i have removed from the rom thread some time ago, because they were not stable.
It is definately not a rom problem, cause im using this rom every day (btw im on new 4.4.4 bootloader) and i didnt had any reboots from the 1st day till this time also not with the 4.3 bootloader, using Agni kernel 4.9 everything works fine, even offline charging works, but from this we already knew that offline charging was working well on new bootloader.

Well the case is that the bootloader is not something you can find separately and flash it for example like a flashable zip, the only way to update the bootloader is by flashing 4.3 or 4.4.4 official firmware from sammobile.com or any other site where you can download samsung official firmwares, and it has the KNOX feature included which really sucks, therefore these bootloaders are also called KNOX bootloader. You can check what bootloader you have at the moment by booting into downloadmode and in left upper corner of the downloadmode screen if there is a line saying ´´KNOX WARRANTY VOID´´ means you already have the new knox bootloader and since the new Android 4.4.4 now there is also a line in blue color saying ´´SECURE DOWNLOAD : ENABLED'' which is the case with me.
If you like to update the bootloader you can do that, in my signature there is a link to ODIN guide, also there is a link in the guide for if you want to learn more about knox bootloader before you do anything, cause when you flash 4.3 or 4.4.4 official firmware the knox bootloader will remain forever with the device, its not something you can delete like an .apk file, the bootloader is part of the device structure.
This knox bootloader seems to cause problems with installing custom roms or applying root etc. (not for everyone though) but im now KNOXED for some time and never had actually any kind of problem installing custom roms or rooting etc. besides that i think that our i9305 is now getting old and 4.4.4 is probably the last official update to come from Samsung, so it doesnt really matter to be knoxed or not knoxed at this time IMHO and most of the people dont care anymore about warranty being void, but if you like to avoid such small issues like device rebooting by itself or any other issue caused by the old bootloader with 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 custom roms, i recommend everyone to update the bootloader if you plan to run 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 custom roms as daily driver.
If you are still not sure about this or you dont understand something, you can always look for more info in the general Q&A thread or just do some research on the internet.
Cheers
Thank you

Downgrade to kitkat from lollipop

Ok
what the best stock version of kitkat to get the best battery life?
I install the israeli version and i get same battery life like lollipop
thanks
I would highly recommending installing the stock version of KitKat that is released for your country.
Yes, i've just done this myself. I got the phone last week, and in amongst all the other 9 million pop-ups that Samsung provide, I accidently pressed yes to upgrade to lollipop.
I ran it for a day and the lag was terrible, so I have now gone back to KitKat. As above, I just went for stock for my country. It seems a lot better now. Once they release another lollipop patch i'll update. It's a shame, as I still think my htc one m8 is slightly faster. It feels more responsive. Anyway, thats off topic.
As above, just use Odin. I'm new to modding Samsung devices really, but managed it easy enough following the various guides around.
Did you guys have to factory reset your device after the downgrade?
If so, does the Kies application backup function safe the application data (logged in accounts, safegames, application settings etc.) too?

LG L90 Question and Help on updating

So i have an LG L90 which i updated via phone OTA update to android 5.0.2 official lollipop, but i encountered an unusual issue.
The phone worked fine for 2-3 days than all apps in the apss>ram usage were restarting,so that caused the phone to lag,to load UI over and over again, programs also...this only was solved with restart, and that would give it again 2-3 lag-free days
So i downgraded it back to kitkat, and it is fine.
After that i rooted it using root scirpt for G3,but it is working for L90 also.
Now i am considering to try to update it once more to LP but this time via pc,maybe that will solve the problem ?
Now the question is
1. Will i be able to update it via pc,because of root...i don't want to brick it
2. Does someone know what was the problem first time with lollipop, and will the pc update method solve that
Thanks in advance
(sorry for typo mistakes if there are any)
Anyone knows the problem,or has something to suggest
btw phone model is D405N
Stock lollipop on this phone is known to have that problems.
I wouldn't recommend the upgrade to lollipop at all.. You could try to install CM custom roms, they work better than stock.
What I've done trying to minimize this:
1. Make UI faster speeding up animations
2. Avoid apps that run in the background all the time (background services that stay open always) like whatsapp and facebook
3. Modified Low Memory Kill limits a bit.
