T-MO 4.4.2 rooted to stock 4.4.2 - Moto X Q&A

Hi! I've got a Moto X from Telcel in Mexico with the bootloader unlocked and the firm from T-Mobile.
By now i'm on the 4.4.2 stock a version, but let's say i want to root and install a custom recovery to my Moto X and i nailed it.
What if in a couple of months there's a new android released like 5.0 or 4.5 i don't know, and the update comes to the Moto X? I know i have to revert the changes to the same 4.4.2 firm with RSD Lite and then start receiving the OTA
But in the process of going back to stock (unrooted) my phone will brick?? as i read in many other threads talking about revert android versions.
Like 4.4.2 to 4.4
I hope i can made my poin clear, thanks!!!

I believe all you need to know is here

[Q] Question about Moto X KitKat OTA upgrade

Hi all,
I was just wondering about following:
I own a Canadian Version (Rogers) of Moto X. Rogers did not start rolling out KitKat upgrade to Moto X yet. However, there should be OTA upgrade roll-out some time soon. My Moto X is unlocked and I'm using it now on non Rogers network. Question is if my Moto X will receive KitKat OTA if I'm not on the Rogers network? If not how can I upgrade OS without losing all my apps and settings. P.S. phone is not rooted and would like to avoid that if possible.
Thank you all.
So nobody on this forum has any idea about my question?.....

I am rather newbish myself with the MotoX, but I have played around with a few ROMS on my old H0X and I assume the principals are usually the same.
When the stock Rogers OTA becomes available you will be prompted to download the OTA. If you choose to install this, it will most likely lock the bootloader.
Your best bet would be to root your phone, and get a custom recovery program on the phone (personally, I like twrp), and do a backup of the entire phone. This way, you can always revert back to that state afterwards.
V.
It shouldn't matter that you aren't physically on the Rogers network. The Moto X should check back to Moto for the update, not a Rogers server. I also have an unlocked Rogers Moto X that I gave to my wife that is on TELUS.
The said thing is, the clueless Rogers reps who man the customer support Twitter don't even think they have an update. They are blaming Moto on not having sent it to them. Hopefully this is just the standard case of clueless CS...

If you do receive the ota and you are running any sort of custom recovery, do not install it, why? It will result in bootloops and it will not install. You must have an untouched system and running the stock recovery for the ota to flash correctly.
As for your boot loader, that will remain unlocked. Now what i suggest is neglect the ota and install the rogers KitKat sbf firmware zip instead.
I did accept the rogers camera ota and I could not flash twrp recovery afterwards, it some how prevents you from over riding the stock recovery. To get around this I flash the sbf firmware and I have no issue flashing twrp recovery. Yes my boot loader is unlocked

[Q] Downgrading

Buddy has a Sprint moto X that he accidentally upgraded to 4.4. Does sbfing the phone w/ a 4.2.2 "image" properly reset the device to 4.2.2 or is it incompatible?

It is very easy to downgrade the phone but.
There is 3 OTa for this phone
4.2.2(dont ever downloaded with brick phone)
Blur_Version.139.12.2.ghost_sprint.Sprint.en.US
4.2.2 Camera Update
Blur_Version.139.14.1.ghost_sprint.Sprint.en.US
4.4
Blur_Version.143.44.8.ghost_sprint.Sprint.en.US
make sure you downoload
you can isntall either the 4.2.2CU or 4.4 anytime you want just dont install the first 4.2.2 for some reason it will brick your phone firmware can be downloaded from here

[Q] Moto X VZW dev edition newb

I was on verizon galaxy nexus for over two years. I wanted better radio performance, so i got a moto x. Nexus bootloader was unlocked and I was a bit of a crackflasher.
I have unlocked bootloader on moto x and installed twrp and supersu.
I did all this before taking firmware update, so I can see how it runs on 4.2.2. I ran it awhile and wanted to try kk out. I downloaded the ota update and went to have it autoflash, but instead, it rebooted into twrp.
so, I have downloaded rsdlite (i used to have a droid x, so i am familiar) and will get the 4.4.2 firmware downloaded too.
Q: can i flash aosp 4.4.2 roms with my x in it's 4.2.2 state or do i need the 4.4.2 update first?
Q: are there standalone radio (baseband) files around I can download and flash in recovery?
Thx!
RSDLite when you have an unlocked bootloader?
Grab the 4.4.2 sbf, extract the individual imgs, then flash with fastboot.
You will find the moto x is no nexus I'm afraid. Not a flashaholics phone for sure. There's just a few ROMs....not a lot of mods, and whatever you do, once on 4.4.2....never downgrade. It can cost you your phone. Dev edition or not.
Just a heads up!!
BTW....not knocking it....I still recommend it to everyone I know!!! Except the couple rooting and tinkering types....then I recommend the N5 hands down.
update : upgraded to kk firmware with rsdlite. bootloader still unlocked. I am on Eclipse now and enjoying it.

I moved from a galaxy nexus last fall to the X. I definitely flashed constantly... now with an unlocked bootloader (MotoMaker!) I don't have the need. Xposed is all you really need to get features you want, unless you just like to tinker.

[Q] Downgrading from 5.0 CM12 unofficial to any 4.4.x official moto firmware?

I have a bootloader-UNLOCKED Moto X XT1058 and I'm running one of the really old CM lollipop builds that came out back in November.
I love Lollipop but I miss my Moto Display, and I was wondering if there was a safe way for me to downgrade back to a 4.4.x firmware so I could get it back.
My bootloader is unlocked, but I'm concerned about any issues that would arise from downgrading from a 5.x to a 4.x firmware. Is this safe?
Thanks

I used one of the first CM12 ROMs available in november and then returned to an official ROM for XT1058 (KitKat 4.4.4) and it worked flawlessly, so you should be ok.

I believe that CM only flashes /System. IF so, to return to a stock Moto rom, just boot into fastboot/bootloader, check the bootloader version, and the corresponding Moto rom, or a newer Moto Rom.
30.70 = original 4.2.2
30.71 = 4.2.2 OTA with camera update
30.B2 = 4.4
30.B4 = 4.4.2
30.B7 = 4.4.4
Umm. Custom ROMs have nothing to do with anything technically speaking. Unless it's an official Moto update that was pushed to the device via OTA or RSD, then it might change things depending on your carrier device. Downgrading is nothing more than flashing a ROM or restoring a nandroid in the case of ROMs via TWRP/CWM or whatever you use.
Problem one. The fact you asked this means you probably goofed up and never made a nandroid backup. If you did make one. Just restore that stock nandroid and you're set. If not. Time to RSD or fastboot back to stock.
You can always flash back to stock with RSD however, I too missed ambient display until I tried Dynamic Notifications. Totally replaces ambient display for any of the CM based ROMs I have tried.
Thanks for all the help, guys!
One last question, I'm retarded. I have the Rogers Canada version but the Rogers firmware (ROGERS-CA_GHOST_KXA20.16-1.26_cid14_CFC_1FF.xml) is apparently 4.4.2 - will it matter if I use a different firmware that is 4.4.4 (which corresponds to my Bootloader version)?

NEVER use a firmware that is for an older bootloader.. i.e. NEVER DOWNGRADE.
If bootloader version on your phone is 30.B7, then it corresponds with 4.4.4, so you MUST use a STOCK Moto 4.4.4 SBF!!!!
But if your bootloader version is 30.B4, that corresponds with 4.4.2, and you MAY use either 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 SBF. Just know that if you use 4.4.4, you will not be able to downgrade to 4.4.2 in the future.
If you can't find your rom.. check ALL of the sources linked in this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/info-tip-web-sites-official-leaked-roms-t2923347
Use the motox toolkit to downgrade your phone/return back to stock

Thanks for the help - so if I use a different 4.4.4 firmware that isn't Rogers it won't matter? I'm just concerned that there's a difference between them, my phone is Rogers but if I use a 4.4.4 firmware that isn't Rogers will it make any difference or is it not a big deal?

Are you asking about flashing a 3rd party rom, like CM? or a Stock Moto rom for a different carrier/model?
I would recommend against flashing a ROM not meant for your carrier/model... There are several possible outcomes which I've seen.
It works, but GPT.BIN version is slightly different and prevents your ability to flash back to the correct ROM for your carrier/model.
Flashes "correctly", but renders your cellular radio unusable.
works ok, but no differently, and no added functions.
Keep in mind, the above only holds true for flashing a different STOCK MOTO ROMS..
NOW, if you are asking about flashing a 3rd party ROM, like CM, or other, you should be relatively safe, and be able to flash back to stock if/when you wish.

I was hoping to reflash to my carrier's specific firmware, but I can't seem to find one higher than 4.4.2 on the ROM list or anywhere else
That explains a bunch though, thank you!

I'm sure Rogers 4.4.4 is found in one of the sites listed at http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/info-tip-web-sites-official-leaked-roms-t2923347
i've an xt1052 indian version can anyobdy tell which rom to use, i tried all that i could get, none of it worked

XT 1053 won't take ota

Like the title says i've got an XT 1053 ( Developer Edition ) T-Mo variant. A while back I gave this phone to my kid, before I did I flashed the stock rom off of the Moto website. the bootloader is unlocked but I didn't root the phone figuring the kid didn't really need root and in the future he could take ota's, well for some reason the 5.1 ota won't install.
4.4.4
The current build # is KXA21.12-L1.29.1
Sys Version is 213.44.1.ghost_row.retail.en.us
Baseband is MSM8960PRO_BP_2323.038.123.OOR
I'm not sure what to do here, does Moto still list their firmwares online? If so I can't find them. i've seen some files here on XDA but i'm not really sure whats appropriate for this phone.
If anyone can help me get up to date on this I would really appreciate it. I just flashed my Nexus 9, Nexus 7, and Nexus 6, and didn't run into any problems, but i'm kinda stumped on this one.
Thanks
i had same issue, dont know if yours is same but i also had an xt1053 that i had returned to stock and after some time wouldnt take 5.1 ota, i had to use rsd again for it to take ota,
here is a link to motorola firmware i use, http://motofirmware.center/files/
Does it have stock recovery? It has to be on stock to take ota's. You can flash the xt1053 5.1 rom on here that doesn't update the bootloader, so you can go back if you wish because lots if people hate lollipop
