[Q] HTC one orange uk backup - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I rooted my HTC one phone and flashed new firmware on it but quite foolishly didn't make a back up of my stock rom. My original CID is ORANG001 so the only way to get back to stock it seems is to find a nandroid backup or an RUU of this firmware, is that right? Before I flashed a custom rom I had sense 5.5 and android 4.3. Was wondering if anyone had or knew where I could get a back up of this particular stock firmware? I have found a couple of sites but the links are not working. Does anybody have any other ideas on how I can go back to stock firmware and get OTA updates

Not quite hard to do
But I wanna ask you 1 question- Why do you want to return to stock? Returning to stock is just a limited version of a Sense-based custom ROM.
Why don't you flash a Sense-based custom ROM, which is almost identical to Stock? For example ARHD 52.0

I don't want to return to stock now as I'm enjoying custom roms on my phone. I just want to ability to return to stock for potential warranty issues or if I would like to receive OTA updates from my carrier. I think the software version i need is 2.24.61.1

[Q] Going back to stock help

Hi,
I have an Orange UK HTC One which i've been flashing various roms on. I've also updated the firmware and S-OFF
I'd like to return to stock so i can send it back (minor fault).
I have found a CWM nandroid backup for my carrier - CID ORANG001 / 1.28.61.7 which i've flashed but the touchscreen doesn't work afterwards and the firmware is still at the new version. HBOOT is also at V1.54.
I presume the touchscreen doesn't work because of the firmware issue (old rom, new firmware? ).
How can i return to a out of the box status ? Im really confused.
Please help.

Find a android backup that is the same as yours and restore that. Flash stock recovery and have S-ON and you're done.

[Q] Problem returning to stock [SOLVED]

Hi guys,
So I'm currently in the process of returning my device to stock for RMA purposes but I've hit a bit of a roadblock, as there's no RUU for my carrier (H3G in the UK). I've restored a CWMP backup to a H3G stock ROM, flashed a firmware that about matches the ROM I'm on, and I'm trying to flash a stock recovery but every time I flash I believe to be a stock recovery, booting into it actually starts CWM 6.0.3.1, which I assume is something to do with disabling HTC's reflashing of stock recoveries when another is found. I've searched for a few days now and have yet to find anyone in the same predicament however, which makes me think I've done something wrong. You wonderful and knowledgeable people at XDA are my final hope before it needs to be shipped off tomorrow morning!
A little more detail about the phone itself: has been updated to the 1.54 HBOOT but is S-OFF and unlocked using revone, and a 4.1.2-based sense ROM because I believe that's the highest Three have released so far.
Thanks for reading!
There something I've wondered for a while regarding going back to stock with no RUU but when there is a Nandroid...you need S-OFF to do it though and have your CID as HTC__001
1. Flash the 1.28.401.7 RUU to go back to stock - this should get the phone back working with the right FW for the Nandroid
2. Change the CID back to H3G__001
3. Restore the 1.28 Nandroid backup using CWM
4. Boot the phone and make sure it runs
5. Flash the stock recovery (assuming you can find it)
6. Make sure the phone boots up
7. Make sure it can download/install the latest OTA updates
The other way is do step 1, then do all the OTA updates up to 2.24 and then change the CID to H3G__001 and flash the Nandroid from TWRP for the H3G build but I've not tried either before. I might even give it a go tonight and see if my theory works
Thanks! That's a great idea, so the RUU is used to restore all of the other parts to stock (firmware, HBOOT, recovery) and then the nandroid changes it to a Three ROM and the OTAs will overwrite the firmware, HBOOT recovery with the Three-specific versions if they are included? At least, I hope I've understood your idea correctly.
That's my theory, but I've never tried it as I have an unbranded handset so can just use the RUU and then OTA it to the latest build. I'll give it a bash tonight and let you know later on if that's OK?
I'm on a bit of a tight schedule in that they're coming to collect it tomorrow morning but if you work something out it would be extremely useful - so long as the phone passes their tests and gets my (hardware-based) problems sorted I'll be happy either way I think your idea will work much better than my current mish-mash of different firmwares, recovery and ROM versions!
I'll be home at 6 and will get right on it. I'll hopefully have news by 8ish at the latest
OK, I can get the phone running on the Nandroid after flashing the RUU BUT you can't flash the OTA update as the recovery I used from a stock 1.28.401.7 RUU doesn't match the Three UK one (it would seem). Hopefully it'll be enough to get it back to them though
IF you could get the stock recovery from the 1.28 Three UK build you'd be good to go AFAIK but I have no idea if the one in the Nandroid is the stock recovery (I assumed not)
Alright, it seems this is my best option and to hope they don't try and run an OTA on it, with any luck they will flash the entire thing with an RUU or something to iron out all of the kinks. Thanks very much for your help, as I wouldn't have wanted to have tried all of that in such a short period.
Should anyone find this thread with a similar problem to what I described in the OP, I managed to flash a stock recovery again by using the HTC One AIO Kit by Hasoon2000, which managed to overwrite CWM where I could no for whatever reason.

What's the Minimum I need to accept OTA Firmware update?

I'm currently S-OFF, Stock Firmware (as shipped, except for hboot, recovery).
And I'm running BadBoys 1.1
I don't want to flash "Modified Firmware" (this time).
What do I need to do let the OTA update come in normally?
I assume I need to flash Stockish ROM (with or without root).
Do I need to relock?
I know there is unmodified firmware as well. I might go that route too.
But I want the most "Official" way to let the firmware be updated. I want to hold off on Harman Firmware just yet.
If a Stock RUU (that included OTA firmware) existed, I'd definitely just use that. I know about the Harman RUU.
I've never personally taken an OTA.
I think all you need is a stock rom and stock recovery.
Not sure if you need to re-lock being s-off.
Btw the unmodified firmware is pulled from the OTA zip.

Yeah, I know. I ended up doing just that. Being crazy anal for nothing.
I learned my lesson on my old EVO 4G about accepting OTA's.
I lost root for a while until a new method opened up.
Patience is everything.
Since you're S-off you can just install the stock Android recovery, then accept the OTA. You'll retain S-off but lose root. You can then root again by installing a custom recovery and flashing the SU binary in recovery. Honestly, though, Captain Throwback's firmware will get you where you want to be without the hassle of doing everything I listed above.

Yes, and no...for Sense enhancements, you get to check them out first without waiting for a stock rooted rom or a custom rom running the same base. Matter of preference, I guess.

Right. I personally prefer to wait for a stock rooted ROM based off the latest update, and separately install the corresponding firmware package.

Meh...to each his own. It depends on what the update contains for me. For example, I had no interest in waiting for a stock rooted Sense 5.0 rom when it was finally released for the LTE.

[Q] Firmware update without S-OFF by switching back to StockRom and Update?

Hi everybody.
my HTC one has Viper 5.8 running with S-ON and i like it that way.
I never updated the Firmware since i moved from the 4.2.2 stock rom. (i have nandroid backup of the stock rom)
I am a bit scared doing S-OFF "just" to update firmware, hboot and radio, I know it should be easy to do, but i just don't want to.
So i thought that maybe i can flash back to the stock rom, then make the offical HTC update to 4.3 sense 6 (should also flash newest firmware right?) and then unlock the bootloader again, flash twrp and custom rom again.
Would that work? Is there something i have to pay attention to?
thx for any help!!!!

Since you don't want S-Off, that is your best option. I would follow closely @Mike1986 [GUIDE] Complete Flashing Guide | Rooting | Going Back To Stock it is for those who are S-On.
Thanks, I will follow the guide.
But I have one more question:
Can I do the official HTC update from the htc stock rom while I still have custom recovery and bootloader unlocked?
Can't find any any info if there is any risk involved not changing back first to stock recovery and bootloader relocked before doing the update.
I guess recovery will be overwritten by the official update?!?
You need stock recovery and locked bootloader to take updates

you don't need a locked bootloader to get an official ota update, however, you do need to flash a stock recovery !!.
I went through the ota update method to update my firmware as for some reason my htc one wouldn't s-off and I felt that it wasn't running as it should on custom roms with the old firmware.
I started off with a flashable zip -4.06.1540.2,developer edition then ota updates, always doing a nand backup of rom.
always pull the stock recovery image from the ota before updating...
i'm now running 5.11.1540.9 firmware and all custom roms are running good...
if you google 4.06.1540.2 dev edition flashable zip you should find it,if not,i can upload it too somewhere for you...
an official htc ota update changes your firmware and installs a stock recovery..
its a bit long winded this way, but,it was the only way for me !!

First thank you for sharing your experience.
When you say "zip -4.06.1540.2,developer edition" then you mean the rom, correct?
Why would you pull the stock recovery from the OTA before updating? What would be the consequence of leaving it in?
...
so i would download the odexed stock rom from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48111304
and afterwards flash the according recovery.img, correct?
i guess it is no problem that my phone (and their for the bootloader) was not a developer edition

yeah,it's a full flashable rom, that can be installed by custom recovery, when I say pull the stock recovery,i mean copy it to a folder on your pc,always best to have the matching recovery for your stock rom.

Need Help Going Back To Stock Sense from GPE

Hi guys, I got an original M7 last year, which was running stock and I flashed bigxie's GPE 4.4.2 ROM. I want to sell my M7 now and can anyone guide me to flashing back to stock sense 4.4.2?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541082
this two guides are a bit confusing, as i was hoping to get a stock sense zip.file in which i can just flash and un-root, re-lock the bootloader and get done with it. I'll be selling this phone to a friend of mine and he said he wanted to try out sense and he'll flash custom rom after he's done testing so I guess i don't really need to go 100% stock as long as it's running sense, unrooted, running stock recovery and able to receive OTA. Can anybody guide me to that? It will be a biiiiig help cause i'm still a newbie in these and it would mean a whole lot to me. Thanks

Look, if he's anyway gonna flash a custom ROM, you're gonna make his work harder by resetting it to stock as he will have to unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery, root and then a ROM. So, if that's the case, just flash a Sense ROM like ARHD and sell it to him. So, to flash a custom rom, all he has to do is wipe and flash it.
If, for some reason, he insists on a stock phone which on which he's gonna flash a ROM (makes no sense to me), follow the 2nd guide. If you're confused what to do, I can help you out. Post the output of you're 'fastboot getvar all' and remove imei and s/n
P.S. ' running sense, unrooted, running stock recovery and able to receive OTA ' is a fully stock phone
Except that a fully stock phone is S-ON while you're S-OFF
