Nyes ^^ Actually it backups that much, that it is a backup of the whole ROM so if you backup your stock ROM with CWM and you flash a.. Let's say Android 4.4.2 AOSP-based ROM and you restore that backup, when being on the AOSP ROM you'll be there on stock, like you never would have flashed the other ROM
But it doesn't backup the TA partition for example, so you can't backup the Bravia Engine 2 or Download Music Info in WALKMAN, but a backup of this is only useful when unlocking the bootloader, so a CWM backup shall be enough for your needs

Okay, that's good
I think you wouldn't need to wipe anything, because it also restores the cache, so also the dalvik cache and it overwrites the old one I would think. If you come in such a situation just try it out, if it doesn't work you can still go into recovery and do the wipes, but I am quite sure (not 100% but about 90% ), that there is no need for wiping anything when restoring

Cant restore CWM backup

Yesterday, I tried to change ROM (to check it out) so before this I did a backup in CWM.
What a surprise when CWM didnt restore this backup. I was looking through the internet for solution and I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15431672&postcount=24
I have same problem as in first post of this thrade (when restoring data, the whole process is stopped) but this solution seems to be for HTC Desire. What could I do if I want data back?
Please help me.
r u using same version of CWM to backup and restore?
new version not backward compatible with an older version backup
Yes, it is the same version

No no, i didnt change anything. The problem is described in that link, it seems that some versions of cwm have problem with restore and have to be fixed than the restore should work. But I dont know how to fix it.
Just simply update CWM to a newer version before restoring the backup.
I pushed the commit long time ago so any "recent" cwm (5.x) will solve the problem.
Hope this helps
Thanks a lot LinoX, but there is only CWM v4.0.1.5 for x8 on XDA.
Is it useful (should I try it?) or do I need newer version? (as you wrote 5.x.x)

if it is an unmodified build (from source) then yes (sometimes there're custom modified builds to add functions. Those recoveries can be problematic because they break more than they fix. Recoveries are really important and you should install only "trusted" ones.)
Try with this one and let us know if it suffices (I'm sure 5.x has the fix, I'm not sure if 4.x had it too...but you shouldn't do any damage..at most it will halt again when restoring)
It seems to work but after first restore there were many apps not be restored, so i did another one. It is better now but still there are about 5 apps not restored plus stock Internet browser (dont know if some other system apps too).
I think it is strange that after every restore there is not same result and not what was backuped at all.
Where could be a problem and is it worth to try restore until everything is restored?
It is true that backup was created by cwm3.2(seems ported from x10mini) included in gingerdx rom i use.

Oh, i realized something.
There was a problem with my SD recently. I couldnt copy one file from sd to pc. And antutu benchmark always crashes when testing card reading.
Damaged sd may causes problems with restore i mean.

maybe...
The last thing i'd like to ask.
Is there any tool with i could extract certain apps from the backup?
Sent from my X8 using Tapatalk
excuse me,
what is the latest cmw version for x8? v4?
thanks b4
I found as a zip file only v4.
But there is v5 in custom kernels included.

Hi, I have a nandroidbackup made using CWM 5.0.2.7. And I want to restore it. Now I have CyanogenMod7 and I have Clockworkmod 5.0.0.6.
So I copied the nandroidbackup from external_sd to internal_sd, and now when it shows up in my restore menu.
Is there any problem that the backup was made with Clockworkmod 5.0.2.7 and I restore it with Clockworkmod 5.0.2.6 ?

BACKUP YOUR TA BEFORE UNLOCKING YOUR BOOTLOADER!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
You can. Backup your data using TWRP (Nandroid Backup). Unlock your bootloader, then restore your backup using TWRP (if youve lost root, you have to root and install twrp again).
TWRP backup should do it.

What do you mean by Nandroid Backup? Is it the usual backup of the entire System?
Also, I want to flash a CyanogenMod . Anyway to transfer my data, apps and contacts there from my stock ROM?

Boot into TWRP and select backup to perform a nandroid backup. Its a backup of the entire system + apps + settings and so on.

Your contacts may be stored on google account. If thats not so you have to export / import your contact. All apps can be transfered by using Titanium Backup. This app allows you to backup all your apps and settings to your SD-Card. After flashing Cyanogenmod just restore your backup with Titanium Backup.
Hi alteristkang,
Your question has been moved from the General section to the Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting section. Please post in the correct sub-forums in future.

i have xperia zr c5502 running on stock android 4.3 mea .after flashing either 4.1 or 4.2.2 using flashtool my phone continuosly reboots while it is in the boot animation but when i reflash a 4.3 rom it works again..i want to downgrade to 4.1 or 4.2.2 to regain root is there any way you can help me??
i want to downgrade according to Sijav method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2590174
for downgrading you have to erase the entire system. it's not like just updating. wiping datas is probably required too

do i need to wipe my data or cache or both and is there any way to preserve my data??
yeah, wiping cache may avoid conflicts. there are several ways to save datas, the most popular is titanium backup

Titanium Backup needs root, right ? Maybe with Sony PC Companion, depending on the data you want to save.

my apps and there datas because i dont want to reinstall all my apps again from zero point.
If your phone is backup with your google account, all the apps will be automatically installed after flashing. But you still need to backup the data of your apps if needed...
in settings > backup and reset you have the option to export datas to google servers. apps will downloaded again, as well as your contacts. be sure they are synchronised in settings > accounts > google, just in case...
I've never used pcc for saving so I can't help for this.

I've been using Titanium Backup for ages, and it's never let me down. Just don't restore system settings across different ROM's, as that will cause problems.

Try 'ZIPme' from Play store
Sent from my Xperia SP using XDA Free mobile app
thank you mate...but i did it already with titanium backup
ZIPme asks you what you want to back up. Takes everything and makes a flashable .zip out of it. Save it on external card and flash via recovery on the new ROM.

no it isnt repairable each phone has a unique TA if that gets deleted and you dont have a backup then the phone is useless
