[Q] Screen won't turn on - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Edit: Okay the charge port is broken too but ADB still seems to work.
Hi guys,
I have a GTI9305 with a custom ROM, and today the bloody phone fell out of my pocket at the gym and I didn't even realise and I clipped the edge with the dumbbell.
The phone turns on and I can hear sounds when I unlock and lock it etc. but the screen will not come on, even though there is not one crack or dent on the device. Obviously something has gone seriously wrong but for Samsung to replace the device I need to remove the ROM and put a stock UK T-Mobile ROM on it.
Is there any way I am going to accomplish this without a functioning screen?
Peace.

Pretty sure you can get the stock rom back on it by using Odin, depends if you want to save your info first though

[Q] Brick?

i was using the s-off tool and i was trying the wire trick and the juopuntbear screen just stays on. i can get to bootloader but nothing works not recovery nothing. says cant find device when i retry the s-off or anything.. this device is a tough one hope i didnt brick it any advice appreciated
If u can get into bootloader you are not in real bad shape at all

but nothing works recovery does not work....when i turn phone on that juobear screen comes up and just reboots every min or so. when i try to reflash recovery it just says waiting for device
well i got cwm back and i tried to flash holics rom just to try and get back went thru all the options and hit install sure enough right back to the damn juonbear image what do i have to do to get rid of this thing
could someone help or tell me im bricked. fastboot dont work my device fails to connect to pc. cwm works and boot loader works.
Have you tried putting a stock, PH39IMG.zip on your SD card and boot into bootloader?
i tried 2 ph39img.zips one gives me back cwm. the other was a 35mb one it flashed then still htc bootscreen then jonubear logo...where do i get a stock ph39?
I tried a quick search and I can't seem to find one either that looks like it might work. I think it would have to be modified to go back to stock. There are others on here far better than me, I just remember keeping a ***IMG.zip file on for my Inspire to get me out of similar, situations. I'm sure some of the more knowledgeable bunch will be around later or tomorrow and they will be much more help than me.
I guess you've tried the RUU as well?
I fixed the problem I found a ph39img.zip in a post that took me back to stock gingerbread then updated to ics.
The reason fastboot was not working was when I was trying the wire trick it caught and disconnected the charger/USB.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
Good job figuring that out.
Thanks ottergap. I will keep the IMG file in case people need it.

I would be surprised if someone didn't need it sometime.

Semi brick. Need help

Basically I've screwed over my phone.
It WILL boot. However I can't get it to go into USB mode.
I'm on Android 2.3.5 and I have this rom installed. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779290
When I try to flash from a backup, it fails flashing system and renders my phone a brick until I reinstall the above ROM
I've also tried going into download mode so I can use the official LG updater to flash it back completely stock. However I can't seem to get that working.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

First you are posting in the wrong section.
Second, what baseband do you have installed. I am running on a Froyo baseband and can't run thrillseeker due to the baseband requiring the GB baseband. You can probably return to stock by using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1491870
From what I am reading, the LG Updater sometimes will fail but you just have to continue using it.
Good luck with your issue. I am planning to do the same to my nephews phone later today. If i can figure something out I will post back.
I think its V20P which is Gingerbread. I know when I last updated it I used the official updating tool and grabbed it from their server. But again I'm on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread. Will those update.zip files work?

Yea it charges but that's it.
Luckily I have SwiFTP installed on my phone so I can still transfer things back and fourth between my phone and PC over my home network via FTP. Just much, MUCH slower.
EDIT: I just realized why this was in the wrong section. I TOTALLY thought I was posting in the general forum. Sorry. *derp*
Bump
First thing uninstall LG PC drivers then reboot PC and reinstall them. Or try to connect to a different PC to make sure it is not PC related. If that doesn't work then try wiping caches and instsall a different kernel. If that doesn't work I would then try full data wipe and reinstall rom of choice. You might try different rom as once its fixed you can always flash back...hope this helps you.

Well I believe I've figured out what the problem was.
You see the other day while I was charging the phone I accidentally knocked it off. The USB cable got caught on my alarm clock and caught the phone, so the phone was hanging by the USB cable.
Well today I looked at the connector on it and I noticed it was bent a little. So I bent it back up and heard a small *click*
I was afraid I had broke it completely inside. However when I plugged it in my computer recognized my phone and USB mode showed up.

Has anyone else gotten this while rooting?

Hey guys. I ran into some trouble trying to root my note 3 and got this message. Now the phone won't turn on our connect to kies to try to repair it. I have the Samsung drivers installed and I believe I followed the directions closely. Can any of you tell me how to get back to factory settings or all the way through the root process. I'm stuck at this screen for now. Any help would be awesome.

Try using the one click oding to get back to the stock firmware. Put the phone in download mode and flash the first step of the root procedure and then stop and make sure your phone will work in stock form first before you try rooting it again.

Instead of Pass in a green box, I get Failed in a red box and the progress bar on the phone stops
That's not good, maybe try a new download. Which firmware are you flashing? MI1 or MI9?
That's actually what happened when I tried to root. It would sit forever and fail due to a timeout. What I did is after the failure..I left the phone in dl mode and connected and closed the odin..then relaunched odin and it worked the second time. That's my experience and your mileage may vary..
Same thing!

The exact same thing happened to me... I tried to install Kies 3 and add the drivers but to no avail. So from there on I just closed everything. Disconnected my note 3, reconnected it, and ran odin once more. It immeadiately passed and rooted my phone.
I have seen that in the past it is the sign of a brick you definitely have to Odin back to stock to fix that

Yes it happened to me too. I just figured it was my crappy computer so I continued to try and after the 4th try I was able to achieve root status. Like a previous commenter suggested, it's a timed out issue.
Yea. I must have tried a dozen times a dozen different ways and I was stuck. I just said eff it and got a new phone. Debating if I want to try again, but I don't feel like potentially going thru the same heart ache. Really the only reason I care to root this phone is to get rid of those damn bloat ware apps; especially My Magazine.

Just went thru this on my Note 3 - chances are youre using a vm on a mac arent you?
Make sure you use a dedicated *windows* machine and not a vm (or at lest not a fusion VM) That was my issue, I havent tried parallels. I grabbed a dedicated win 7 machine and it works perfectly.
I was going to return it of that failed, which luckily it didnt.
Cheers

LG G2, Need help finding a fix.

So I have an LG G2 that I used AutoRec on and it flashed a different kernel not compatible with the display type. I flashed the stock ROM back thinking it would fix the problem but it did not. Does anyone know how to flash the right kernel for the display? I've been looking but it seems I'm going to have no luck since I just flashed back to stock and I need root and a custom recovery to do so. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

The OP has a link under the warning to get the JDI version. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715496 Read ,read, read. There's also a tool in G2 Android Development that will detect if your pannel is LGD or JDI.

I have looked through that whole thread and it seems you need to be able to use recovery and have root permission. Most of them claim to have only a few lines but they are still able to see their screen. Mine stays how it looks in the picture 100% of the time. I used the TOT method before to flash it back to stock but it seems that didn't do anything to fix it, that's why I'm asking on this forum. Since it's complete stock and I have no way of seeing what's going on on the display. For some reason it seems to boot up into download mode also without me doing anything but turning it on. If you have any experience with this issue could you inform me about it? Thanks, man.

Can you get into recovery? Try grabbing the kernel here and flashing it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51974589&postcount=281
Otherwise if the screen is like this 100% of the time, I'd say it's farked, use the return to stock guide and take it back for a replacement.
Thank for replying, unfortunately that is the answer to my question. It is like that 100% of the time and I flashed stock back on to it thinking it would fix the problem. This leaves me with a messed up screen and a phone without any root or custom recovery. I will ask, is it possible to flash a kernel in stock somehow with adb or anything of the sort? I have already sent it in for a replacement so I don't think I will be able to send it in again.

Help Unrooting And Getting To Stock FW WITHOUT ODIN

Ok, so i just got sent a refurbished note 4 and immediately i went ahead and rooted (didin't make a nandroid backup........I KNOW I KNOW! LESSON LEARNED :crying and installed custom rom. Problem is, my usb port decided it no longer wanted to work properly. It charges but VERY slowly and it doesn't register as a fast charger connected even though it is. My issue i'm running into now is that when i put it in download mode to try to make it completely stock through odin it doesn't recognize it at all on my pc, nor does it come up as usb storage. I know i can unroot using super su but what can i do about my bootloader, kernel and custom rom. I need it to go all the way back as close to stock as possible, i do understand that knox is tripped but i am not worried about that. Anybody have any ideas on how i can get back to stock fw without a usb connection. Just received my note 5 today and they are awaiting my note 4 in the mail. Can't send it back like this if i don't expect to pay for it. PLZ HELP ME
Okk meaning your custom rom have problem on the usb side. So I will suggest try diffrent rom diffrent rom and see if that works , then you can rool back to stock by downloading a stock firmware and flashing it with odin. However check to see if your have enabled usb debugging that you phone will be recognised by the pc.

Without a computer you will not be able to go back to any firmware which requires odin and download mode..
(like the stock official firmware for example)
Sorry for the bad news, but it's true!
Good luck,
Have a great day!
