The little cast button keeps disappearing from all the apps on my devices and I have to restart the chromecast to get it back. If I manually switch to the tv input the chromecast appears to be functioning correctly though. Anyone else?

That's happening to me. I think it has to do with my router. I changed some router settings to see it if helps. I used to get the same 'disconnect' problem with my ps3. It happens once a week or so.

I've been having issues with my verizon branded galaxy nexus. Completely stock. When I cast a music playlist, it doesn't continue streaming until I wake it back up. In other words, it will play one song and that is it. As soon as I wake the phone up and re-enter the play music app, it starts back up. I have wifi set to stay on when sleeping and I've tried it on both 2.4 and 5 ghz bands on my router. It may be noteworthy that this doesn't happen on my nexus 7 v2. That will continue streaming through the playlist.
Anyone else having similar issues?

I'd guess your Wi-Fi is going to sleep. If the device that starts a cast disconnects it will stop after that song ends.
That's not the problem I'm having. On ALL my devices the cast button disappears from all the apps that can cast. If I change to the HDMI that the chromecast is in everything appears normal, it says ready to cast. A reboot fixes but within 24 hours it happens again.

Yep that's my problem. My router is really crappy and doesn't have Ap Isolation setting so I can't see if that's the issue.
Anyone else can chime in with possible solutions?

Same problem here. Works for a while and then the logo disappears in all the devices.
I have asus rt-n13u b1 router that is pretty crappy, but I'm using it only as an AP for my router that I got from my ISP. Anyways, I'm not sure where is the problem and how I can fix it. I had similar issues with AppleTV, but Roku seems to be the most reliable one of all. Thinking I should go back to Roku!
Any help would be appreciated.

Google says RT-N12 works, what's the difference between it and the N13?
I believe the Chromecast discovery relies on multicast, so check if your router has any options mentioning multicast.
I've successfully set up my Chromecast with my Gnex hotspot and my Galaxy S 4G, and Netfilx and Google Play Music stream perfectly: however, Youtube and Google Play Movies and TV is tricky: it takes too long to load when it works. I got a Youtube video to work but only once. Tabcasting works but it lags. I think we need a thread that troubleshoots this type of problem, but if I'm wrong, please disregard this thread. If it's needed, please share your experiences here. The screenshots I'm attaching is my current setup (I switch my one sim card between phones): in this case, my Galaxy S 4g is the hotspot, my Gnex is MyPhone, MT6451 is my laptop #1, VPCM11AX is laptop #2, FranciscosiPhone is my iphone, and the Azurewave Tech is (I'm assuming) Chromecast.
Update: gnex as hotspot, s 4g as source with Aircast streams movies from SD card.

May I ask how you managed to get this thing to work? I've tried multiple methods for Wifi tethering using the Galaxy Nexus and all have failed. I have tried Wifi Tether 3.4 and the stock tethering option. The errors include, AP Isolation needing to be turned off, UPnp not configured, and no connection. Once I do eventually get connected, its slow and just kicks off while trying to reload. Are there any additional settings in the wifi tether app that need to be addressed? Any help would be great. Thank you.
No need for apps. I'm running cm10.2 on my gnex and 10.1 on my galaxy s 4g. Try to setup with the chromecast app but don't change the Chromecastxxxx network name. That is one problem. The next problem is "connection failed" due to password. That's fine. Double check your gnex password and try again. If you get try again just press cancel and you'll be set. It's a bit tricky but I've done it several times with both phones. If you get stuck, let me know and I'll post a video or something.
After I pressed cancel, I was set up. The first time I did it, I didn't know I was set up until I noticed the app said "Ready to Cast." Then, after resetting the Chromecast to troubleshoot some problem, I realized that changing the ChromecastXXXX name is the main problem.

I'd hide those MAC addresses if I were you. Not that we're neighbors or anything ;p
Yeah I use my One's hotspot to connect the two as well. Funny my LTE is faster than my router.

LOL! I thought about that but got lazy. Are you able to stream YouTube and Google Play Movies and TV with your hotspot?

Yeah, runs fine. Though, naturally my battery drains quickly.
I've tried this method and it doesn't work for me. Left the chromecast's ID as default, was able to get it to connect, but the Chromecast itself is never recognized by any device. I can refresh or toggle wifi and eventually it will show up as an option in Google Music/Youtube, but then trying to connect to it produces an error message.
I have tried using a Galaxy Note on T-Mobile run tethering and surprise surprise, it works, but because they don't have unlimited data like I do on Verizon, it's not an option at all. Seems like it might be an issue specific to the GNex.

On the gnex, try going to settings-wifi-advanced-wifiFrequencyBand: 2.4 GHz only

So with this method you used your galaxy s as the hotspot and the gnex to setup the chromecast correct? I don't have a second phone to do that, have you gotten this to work by using the windows chromecast setup app? I can't connect...with or without a password on my hotspot and using 2.4ghz only.
Please explain how you set this up step by step
Currently, I'm using the gnex as a hotspot. I originally used chrome on Ubuntu to set up. Actually, any setup will work. I switched to see what works best and I think the gnex hotspot is more stable. You will, however, need a 2nd phone or computer to setup. Sometimes setup gets a bit tricky and says setup failed but that may not be correct, as I showed in the screenshots.

Does the TV set say "ready to cast"? If do, make sure the nexus 7 is also connected to the gnex. The chromecast app on the nexus7 should also say ready to cast".

Thanks, I'll try this out when I get home and see how it fairs.
I tried the 2.4Ghz setting and the Chromecast app doesn't recognize the Chromecast at all. Even though it's set up and connected to the network, the app will detect it as needing to be setup, even though Chromecast displays "Ready to Cast." I really think it has to be related to some Verizon LTE thing because I don't really know why it would instantly work on a T-Mobile Galaxy Note but not for a Verizon Galaxy Nexus. Doesn't really make any sense. I don't think using CM10.1 has anything to do with it either. I also tried CM10.2 with the same results.
OK. If you are "Ready To Cast" and you can't, this is what I found: YouTube, Google movies, and music are "blocked" if you don't have a paid hotspot plan, but Netflix and casting from your computer should work. On my sim, I had about 99gb of data and Google doesn't cast but Netflix and tab casting works. On my wife's sim, the hotspot on her plan is still less than 500mb so I can stream. This is on T-Mobile.

I wrote this post before the first update and setting up, to me (after a factory reset) was easier. I haven't had the new update but as soon as I get it, I will factory reset and reprogram to see if anything has changed.

I'm convinced this will never work with my gnex as a hotspot, its just teasing me. It worked great with my girlfriends Rezound as a hotspot, but thats gone from a mugging in Colombia last week, and now she is getting a gnex

Thanks for the help. That reasoning probably makes sense. It's fine because in a few months I'll have a dedicated wifi connection and won't have to resort to my phone, so I'll just have to wait it out. Thanks for all your help!

approaxamitely one a day for the last week since i cant back to clolrado after buying my CC in California and sice i have its been nothing but problems all seemingly network realted
the first issue was the chromecast was asking for a different IP then it was getting that was fixed by just assigning it that IP
since doing that about once a day i need to unplug and re plug in my uncles router to get any device to see the Chromecast but the CC sits at thw Ready to Cast screen like nothing is wrong.
is that device related?
or network?
no one?
More info about your problwm
i gave quite a bit

Not just unplug it, hold the rest button down for 30 seconds unplug it. Still holding the button down plug it back in holding the reset button down for 30 seconds.
And / Or go into the routers menu and do a full system reset.

I noticed that if I open an app while not on my home network and then background it, then if I launch the app when I return to the network, it usually will not have the cast icon. This is fixed by killing the app from the backgrounded app list (soft button that looks like two rectangles on jellybean, not sure what it is really called) and then relaunch.
One time this did not fix it. My router was the issue though and preventing my devices from seeing the chromecast. I reset the router using the routers reset button. After the reset, everything worked great.

Hi All,
Just picked up a chromecast however I'm having some initial issues with getting it working.
It connected fine to my Wifi network and then goes to update however the update stays on 0% or 1% until it eventually times out.
Is anyone able to provide information around how the updates work for this device? I'm in New Zealand so I'm curious if there's an issue with Google servers not accepting from my location or something.
If anyone could provide any information that would be great, if there's a better place for this post or if I should be easily able to find this (I did try to search everywhere I could) then I'm sorry.
Kind regards,
Kyo

Same here +1
would appreciate a reply or solution
Got my Chromecast a week ago. It was setup and working/casting without any problem but since yesterday, a message appeared about updating..."Your Chromecast deserves the best...." and the update screen is stuck at 0%. I have restarted routers, chromecast, reset and tried everything, but after setup it gores to update screen and stays at 0% for hours without any progress.
I am using it in Pakistan. Have tried to search online solutions but found nothing, though I have seen some other people having the same problem.
PLEASE HELP and ADVISE how to go about. I have already tried resetting and factory reset etc.
I just opened the box for chromecast today. The setup went fine. As soon as it was connected, it started the update. It gets to 100% and does nothing else. It just stays on that screen. Anyone else experiencing this?
+1 same issue here.Seems to be affecting Pakistani users.
Maybe because youtube is blocked in Pakistan.
Anyway to manually update device ?
So my chromecast started updating itself a day later, well I never saw it updating but it did. (didn't change anything so not sure why it wasn't working).
Good luck to those others who have the issue.
Any update on this? I'm having the same issue... purchased chromecast yesterday and never got it passed the update screen, remains on zero. Even after leaving on overnight!
Talked with Google last night at midnight, very cool support is open 24/7, but they were unable to help. the one thing they did mention is that the router should be within 20 feet of chromecast! Mine is easily double that, but everything else in the same location works fine; xbox, roku, LG G2, Nexus 7 and my Vizio DLNA and smart apps. I can stream on everything but the chromecast.
Is the chromecast really that weak?
Help?

Don't think so.
Since your TV has DLNA, you should be able to stream using BubbleUPnP alone providing you also have WiFi on it as well.
Chromecast stuck on 0% updating
I fixed Chromecast stuck on 0% update by rebooting with little button THEN switching the cable box cable to HMI-2. Then plugging Chromecast cable into HMI-1 port on the TV and selecting HMI-1 setting. Chromecast started loading and rebooted itself about 3 times. With-in 6 or 7 minutes it was ready to CAST! Yay finally. It took my 4 hours to figure it out as there were no solutions on the internet blogs.
+1 this! Thank you so much!!
Anyone else having trouble connecting to Motorola Connect? It hasn't worked in a few days for me. My Chrome is up to date. I've tried installing and uninstalling. I've got a rooted Verizon Moto Maker edition on 4.4.
After 444 tonight I had huge issue tried everything... Then I turned off Wi-Fi and let it sync using Mobile data and that worked. Turned Wi-Fi back in and it still works.... Funny don't know why that worked but try and see if that helps

I've been having problems with MotoConnect for the last couple of weeks. It will open fine and then the plugin will crash or I get several messages about not being able to communicate with the Motorola servers. As the above poster mentioned, sometimes if all else fails turn off the WIFI and see if it will connect with mobile data, assuming, of course, you can get a cellular signal where your at.
