I've noticed my phone only charging at around 70mah when simply on the home screen (charges very fast when screen is off/sleep, 800+mah). I am using battery monitor widget to see the current draw. Using battery doctor, it tells me Maps is using 99% of the battery being consumed, even after testing it out playing Temple Run 2 for 20 minutes on max screen brightness. Is anyone else having this issue? Any known solutions? I even tried disabling GPS and latitude.

I have tried that. But I would like to use my GPS as it has a lot of uses with applications. That still doesn't explain having such a high current draw enough to only charge at only 70mah even while in use. Any phone should be able to charge significantly faster than the battery drains (aside from USB charging). Something is putting a ton of unwanted load on while the phone is not sleeping. The phone sleeps VERY well in the sense of conserving power (-10mAh)
Can someone download battery doctor and see if Maps is also very high on their list? It could also be a false reading on the apps end. I'm looking at my phone right now on max brightness and it shows it's discharging at -304mAh, which is acceptable. I'm more concerned about the charging rate being horrible while the phone is awake. Something might be really making the processor do unnecessary work.
I have the same percentage for maps as well....

I use GSAM. I used to have issues with maps doing that, and forgot how I fixed it. I wish they would make Google maps not suck. So many freaking wakelocks.
Edit: make sure you turn off that location sharing friend crap, check in notification and auto check in.

It's kind of sad that they took "Screen" out of the list of power consuming things as that is truly the most common power consuming factor. I'm really not impressed with this release of Sense. I WANT MORE PANELS!! lol I went from 7 panels from the Evo 3D to 5 panels including blinkfeed which I don't use. Sooo lamee
Anyway, the phone is new so I'm sure there will be updates fixing a ton of issues since they kind of rushed the release after the initial delay. I'm betting a bunch of issues escaped unfixed because of that. Would anyone suggest a ROM to potentially fix my issue and improve everything as a whole?

Which app is that and which ROM are you using? My HTC One is rooted but I haven't rommed it yet. I'm debating whether or not I should and if I do, which one I should use.
I'm still wondering if anyone has had any experiences with extremely slow charging while using the phone.

That app is stock sense. Settings > power > usage. I would say definitely ROM it. More customization possibilities and it will only get better. The ROMs that are out now are completely stable and mildly tweaked compared to what they will be in a month or so. Also I had slow charging for my first few cycles and it seems to have gotten much better. At least on par with my wife's evo lte.

I'm leaning towards the Viper ROM. Any other suggestions or possibly better ROMs?
I believe everything gets wiped when the ROM is flashed, correct? I already have TWRP installed.
The generic answer is to try a few different ones and see what works best for you. For me, I'm using viper as my daily. But who knows what I'll be using tomorrow.... I'm a flashaholic. There's a superwipe posted in these forums that will wipe everything for you but in essence it formats system, data, cache, and dalvik. Any time you jump to a different ROM you will want to wipe everything. Keep in mind a factory reset is not the same thing as a full wipe as it does not wipe system files.

So every time you flash another ROM, what do you do to recover all your data, apps, game progress, etc.
I just made a backup of everything with my stock ROM using TWRP.
Personally I use titanium backup.... But it can cause issues as can any app that transfers data between ROMs. you can actually import data from your nandroid by using titanium.... Or just restore the data partition from your nandroid from within twrp. No matter what you may run into issues and if that's the case just start over for the best results.
I apologize ahead of time if this makes no sense.... Exhaustion at work is setting in.

Android system at 2% Damn. Mine is always top 5. Currently 14% right now...
We have been needing a gummy thread for a long time. This will be my first thread start. So. 1/29 has been running very well for me with only occasional black screen, no response. Pull battery issues. Only every now and then. So, today j was happy to see a new build. When I went to install it safe strap said can't open zip error. Failed. Disappointed. Rebooted back into 1/29. Oh well I'm sure they'll fix it. They are great about that.
Also got the red error in safestrap on last build.

Strange. 2/08 is out. but its only 17.3 mb. Not sure if its a mistake or if we flash it then flash 2/07. Guess I ll try that and report back.
Nah, think the last two are junk...not sure there's any changes going on anyway. Probably just bot-builds over the latest aosp base.

Ya saw on twitter that they had issues with oldandroid uploading ROMs. Ours is not the only ROM not complete looks like. I looked at some others and half of them didn't look right. Hope they get it fixed, I really like gummy.
2/10 is 194 mb.
2/10 is good so far. Haven't had time to play with all of it yet but so far its smooth. Tether works, I flashed the cm WiFi fix to be sure.
2/11 so far has the best battery life of any I've flashed lately.

do you think lmt pie uses the battery in terms of drain, any differently than say a hard coded slimpie?
and when do you convert to ART before or after restoring apps
No idea. Don't use either. And I went to art first and have stayed there. At first I switched back and forth, but now I just use art. Never had any issues but for some lag now and then. But I think it mostly had to do with all the different kernels.
2/15 is great. Has the ubuntu#2 kernel and good battery.
Been a week since last update. Hopefully they are fixin to wow us with another milestone. M.2. I'm ready. Its still the most stable, right along with cm.
Newer builds 2/25 on android hosting.org.
Last two builds have the old wifi bug on first boot...wifical.sh does not fix it,nor does reboot

I've seen posts of several loving 4.4 and others going back to 4.2. Is it worth it? Battery life? Are there known bugs and issues?
Imo, its still very much subjective. As much as I've frequented here throughout the years,I would probably still be considered a noob. With that being said, here are my thoughts
Initially I was regretting the update. My battery life being terrible was my biggest gripe. I decided to root it only three days of having the stock 4.4 rom. Once I did that, my battery life levels returned to 4.2 levels. I'm getting about 15 hours off a single charge which is huge for me. Not sure if rooting actually made the difference but that's the only thing I changed after I initially made the switch.
Plus I love the new camera app which isn't offered for 4.2. I just wish Google incorporated a long press to kill apps feature. Seems like the only way you can get that is through a custom rom
Also, my screen rotation seems to be broken. It works on certain apps and not on others. It will work if I click on a video within flipboard, but not in my picture gallery. I can deal with it for a while but not too much longer

You may want to look into xposed framework and either wanam or gravitybox. It will give you your long press back to kill along with a while host of other features. I could never live on a stock ROM without one of those.

Honestly, no. That's really weird that it's hit or miss like that. There's a reason they pulled that update, though. I'm wondering if there's not different hardware revisions or something and 4.4.2 just works better with some than others. Only suggestion I could make is make a nandroid, do a factory reset, and see if that fixes it. If not, just restore your backup.
Did you make any other modifications or delete any system apps after rooting?

No idea how or why that might make a difference, but I made a backup of mine with Titanium Backup and I've attached an archive with the files in it. You can use that to reinstall it. System apps live on a different partition from your regular apps and so do their .dex files (for odexed roms, which stock usually is). So no, unless you need to push some apps (supersu? ) to the /system/ partition, there is no need to free up space. Just uninstall updates and freeze.

So do you guys think it's worth switching over to ART now that it's an official thing in L release and the future of android for sure? I had researched this months ago but at the time many apps didn't work with it. Is it something worth giving a shot now? I actually saw an article posted from CNET mentioning about doing this even if you don't have the official release as it helps boost performance. Any risks from switching or is it just maybe some apps don't work and that's the worst that happens?
For me the pros of art outweighed the cons since day 1
The version of ART in kitkat isn't the same as the one in L. The one in kitkat was a developer preview so devs could get their apps working in it for the eventual full release. Currently it offers little to no bonuses, and at this point very few apps don't work with it.

How is it not the same? It's the way the system is using cache right? So it's either using dalvik or ART. It can be like half one, and half the other. So I don't think you're right about that. However, as you say I guess it still stands that many apps don't work with it yet. This being the reason I never switched. But I was thinking now that it's official, app makers will switch.
Anyone know of a list or anything that states apps that don't work with it?

ART, as far as I know, hasn't been updated since the kitkat release, and what we got was a sort of beta release. The basis of it is different from dalvik, yes, but the things that actually provide the bonuses are different in L. Sites ran tests when it came out and found minimal to no differences from dalvik. Plus, it's only been available on Qualcomm chips, which includes the Moto X, and Moto decided not to hide it. Outside of that and Nexus devices, im not sure what devices have it right now. My Nexus 10 can't choose ART (on stock ROM) because it runs on an Exynos chip. L will contain all the updates Google has been working on since the kitkat release and thats when you'll see a difference from dalvik. I've been on ART on my Moto X and N7 since then and cant notice a difference. And most apps work on it now. The ones that are more likely to not work are games.

I just have a habit of wanting to have "the latest and greatest," and since it didn't really break anything i decided "why not?" I'll probably end up flashing the preview build of L onto my N7 for that same reason, but i'm gonna give that a day or two to hear how much stuff is busted to see if it's worth it.
I haven't tried any games, but I agree to not seeing a difference.
The moto x runs much better than other devices I'm used to, so it's difficult for me to pinpoint any changes it made as opposed to using dalvik
I have noticed a massive difference on art
Ive noticed an improvement as well. Only downside is no xposed

Pretty much. Then just switch back.
Oh, and there is the longer boot the first time after switching from one to the other.
ART is really nice on the Moto X, but my complaint is the same as most folks when I use it - no Xposed compatibility. However, judging from the I/O keynote Wednesday, I don't think the dev has to do anything to make it work - Google is doing that for us on the backend when L releases in the fall. They made it clear that they're trying to make Android more developer-friendly, as indicated by the Android L preview released yesterday. There's lots of neat stuff coming, and we all get to be part of it. :good:
Just try it and see what you think. Don't like it, switch back. Asking people isn't helpful....some like it, some hate it....and some have no opinion.
But, personally.....an X without Gravity box wouldn't appeal to me.
---------- Post added at 12:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:51 PM ----------
And for me....Xposed will be a necessity on L...when its official, cause I think its butt ugly. Lol
Well I'm not rooted/unlocked so gravity box isn't an option for me regardless unfortunately. I think I'll give it a shot.

Well the developer of xposed says it doesn't work ( http://www.androidauthority.com/android-art-switch-xposed-395098/) and in the xposed FAQ one if the questions is "why does my phone switch to dalvik when I enable xposed".
So I guess all I can say is congrats? I haven't personally tried to force the two together.

Yes, ART uses more space on the device.
I just rooted my tablet using instructions from several sources here, and have a bit of a problem. I rooted it because of a slightly annoying problem with the touch screen. It worked great 90% of the time, but occasionally I would have to tap an icon a few times for the screen to respond. I have not installed any Rom on it as I decided to keep it stock for the time being. That could change real quick though!! After I rooted it, the problem has increased. I did install several tweaking apps on it (Enterprise ram and digitizer booster, Optimus Root Memory Optimizer, and Entrophy Fixer) and a few games that I had on it before. Removing the digitizer app did no good. The odd thing about it is, I do not notice the touch screen issue if I am playing a game, only when I touch the application icons or links. There does not appear to be any app available to calibrate the screen. Has anybody else had this issue with the 701? Thanks for any help you can provide!!

I may end up trying CM12. I am also getting an error at boot up , "the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped" . It does not seem to be causing any problems, but it is annoying nevertheless. Also, this rom is nice, but I see no performance difference between it and stock. I tried that calibration app you linked to, but it does not seem to have done anything. Thanks!

I doubt it, but doesn't hurt to try. CM12 is in beta though. CROMi-X 7.1 was just released. The "xxx process has stopped" is a bug that will be ironed out soon. You did clean install the rom, did you?
But if you have the same problem on different roms it's unlikely that your touch problem is software related.
To rule out a software problem you should format data and reflash the rom. Format, not just wipe. Which will delete all data on your tablet.

Thank you for your response. I was able to fix the process error, but I still ended up putting CM12 on it anyhow! It took me all of 10 minutes and I have had no problems so far. It is very smooth and fast. I did a wipe/format, and a dalvik wipe before I put CM12 on it using CM 6.0.5.1 (I think that is the correct version). Not sure I did that correctly though, since my download folder on the tablet was still intact afterwards. My LCD problem is more than likely hardware, but it is more of an annoyance than anything. It only affects opening up apps. The screen works great in games and just typing.
