I've just picked up the t-mobile version of this phone tonight, and it's on 4.1 right now. Everything I've read said there was an update for 4.2.2 , but the phone system says it's up to date. I'd actually prefer 4.1 for now because of bluetooth issues i think, but I'm just wondering if the t-mobile version will have to wait to be updated, making it much longer than the international versions? I didn't plan on rooting for a few weeks, but if there's already a 4.3 rom out there, i may have to do that a little quicker.
Yeah we don't know how long it will be to get the update it doesn't exist yet,but you can flash any firmware on it using the flashtool, just read up alto, for me it's been so diff than HTC like you don't flash it in recovery and you don't have to be rooted first, couple weird things

Thanks, I just came from a t989 Galaxy SII, and for that it had to be rooted, but only took a few steps. I'll have to read all of the stickies and figure out how to work everything.

wait, so I'm confused, with the t-mobile xperia z, the bootloader can't be unlocked? if that is the case, then how can root even be possible?
Also, do the roms for the international version work on the t-mobile version (Such as parinoid android and cyanogenmod)
If that is the case, then what does the locked bootloader stop?
So I guess my question is, do roms designed for the international xperia z work on the t-mobile version. Like, do we get official cyanogenmod support?
I'm curious, because this might be my next phone (Debating between this and the nexus 4)
I'm currently using the htc vivid
Would any of these update methods erase the stuff that came with the phone? (Not that I want all of the apps, but some of them, I like)...

So I'm downloading the flashtool right now, but it's going to take a while longer. By flashing the 4.2.2 stock rom (which one is that btw?), will I get the ability to have a mobile hotspot again? That's the only thing I'm looking to get at the moment. Also, will I have to flash new modems or kernels or anything else? Is there a really easy youtube video that shows how to do everything from start to finish on adding a stock rom?

Thanks, I'm not worried about Wi-Fi calling, I'm on the thirty dollar plan with only a hundred minutes, I rarely talk on the phone. Am I correct in understanding since we have a locked boot loader, we can't install custom rooms like Aokp or CM?

Correct but u still can root and flash ftf and also install a double recovery. U basically can do everything besides costum Roms. But after u flash a international ftf u should also be able to unlock the bootloader. But I don't gonna be 100 % sure.

Since you seem to have the t-mobile version and are in the US, do you know if you flash a 6602 stock rom, does US T-mobile LTE still work? I've read so many different answers and they are ALL over the place on this board, so I'm not sure what way to go. The only US labeled rom I found is for a 6602, but some people have stated you need 6603 for LTE, others say both work.

Hello,
I would like to buy a Xperia Z with an unlockable bootloader and I currently have T-mobile as my provider.
Which version of the Xperia Z would be most compatible with T-mobile and have an unlockable bootloader (aside from the T-mobile version)?
Where would I buy such a phone?
Would I have to make any compromises (ie data/cell links)?
Thank you very much.

There seems to be a way to flash an C6603 basebands what would enable lte for the C6602 n baseband 4. Because it actually does have lte but it is not official enabled. But u will find better info on that if u do a search on it. But it seems to be possible. Only on the C6602 not the C6603 because it has different lte basebands.

Yeah on the C6602 u can enable lte option with flashing a C6603 rom. Basebands sadly can't the flashed to a different baseband. The C6602 has lte 4 and some others but never official lte like the Nexus 4. That has lte disabled but with some unofficial ways u can enable it. I am glad u understand. Trust me if I could I would flash lte baseband that will work in my C6603 for the USA. Sadly I can't.

Well what lte band uses t mobile? The C6602 could get lte 4. Because it has lte build in but disabled. U need to flash a C6603 ftf to it to make lte option be available. What? U can flash ftf C6603 to a C6606 that is no problem. U need flashtool then u also can root it doomlord easy root and u can even install a dual recovery even with locked bootloader. The first thing to say would have been that the bootloader on a C6606 cannot be unlocked anyway.
You should also have advised the OP to exclude the baseband during flashing of a C6603 ftf to a C6606 as flashing the baseband would apparently cause loss of LTE.
Edit : Apparently, it is safe to flash other basebands. Just going off what other people that actually have the phone were saying initially. I stand corrected on that one.
Or just link to one of the threads where this has already been discussed, like this one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2372664 instead of going over the same ground again.

It will be months till tmobile gets it,they only released it a week or two ago, who knows they may skip it to 4.3 but there's no way if they were gonna update this fast they would have released with it,just flash it through the flashtool root not needed

I was hesitated about flashing and rooting my Z, but I just did everything and I am running 4.2.2 and rooted with my t-mobile Z. You can search hear to see how to flash and root.
Root is quite easy. Change some settings on your phone, plug, click and ready to be rooted. Flashing is bit more work to be done but they are also easy such as install drivers for your Z in flash mode (like DFU mode in iOS) to make Flash software to work.

Flashing stock firmwares on this phone is not much different than doing the same on Samsung and HTC phones. A few things to download and that's it. If you've ever used Odin with a Samsung phone before, it's a very simaler process.

That's strange. 6603 and 6602 don't have LTE_BC4 for at least t-mobile LTE. I haven't tried flashing their baseband, but 6506 baseband doesn't work for me.

You definitely still have t-mobile Z baseband.
Your stock baseband hasn't changed.
Here is my stock and 6506 baseband. I just flash baseband only.
With 6506 baseband, I don't get t-mobile LTE even though it has LTE_BC4

You just remind me imei number, thanks.
So my bootloader is unlocked and my device rooted, trouble is every recovery I flash doesn't want to boot. I'm on the three branded 257 firmware, is there anything I can use or do I need to upgrade to a newer one?
