[Q] 4.4 - contacts not showing in car audio system - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I upgraded my z1 from 4.2.2 (I was on this release because of Bluetooth issues with my car handsfree audio system running 4.3 as in it did not work!)
The good news is that it will now connect and allow me to use the handsfree in my car but will not display/upload the contacts. It does pop-up with a message asking me to confirm that I want to allow access to the call lists and contacts but the contacts are empty when I select them from the car audio system. The call lists display with no problems. I just wondered if there was an issue with my contacts and how they are stored on the phone... (they are synced with my google account)
I have not had any other issues with the 4.4 upgrade at all!
Any help will be appreciated!
Regards,
Alan

Update:
I have tried the following -
I have unpaired and re-paired and even tried that with the phone in safe mode but still no joy! Call lists are still there and the handsfree functions are sill working, I just wondered if there was a problem with my contacts
I deleted all of my contacts and added a test contact and then unpaired and re-paired the phone to my car audio (it asked for permission to view the contacts/call lists which I granted) and it still cannot see the phonebook. The call lists are there but the phonebook is empty.. Has anyone any suggestions on how to fix this?
Any help or suggestions to fix this will be appreciated!
Regards,
Alan

For me on 4.2 and 4.3 it took a good while (I mean, like 2-3 minutes to upload the contacts), but it finally worked... Let it load for a while and then give it a try.

Hi pdaaalex,
Thank you for your reply. What car system have you got? Mine is a Navi800 in a Vauxhall Insignia.

I've tested it over a range of bluetooth devices and on 2 car systems (stock audi both of them) and every single time I had the same issue. It was specially bad with some Backbeat BT headphones, where it took much longer to show contacts....

I don't know, I updated yesterday to 4.4 (iHackers 4.1) and BT works like a charm, before it took like 5 minutes to download the contacts, but as of now, it takes seconds... BT works as it should work (same speed & performance as I used to have in samsung)...
You can always try some BT mapper to try to use Google now to dial instead of the BT dialer or something like that...
Sorry I cannot help you more...

Bluetooth Handsfree on MEX-BT2500 - Incoming Calls don't Work

I have an MDA Vario III branded phone using the HTC ROM 1.56.405.5 and a sony MEX-BT2500 (Bluetooth enabled stereo with A2DP).
http://www.audio66.com/product.asp?id=5616&cat=1&man=6&main=1&userid=&firstsel=cat&variation=
The A2DP works well (except it's a pain to enable/disable it using the WM6 interface!) and I can make outgoing calls fine with the phone paired with the Sony but when incoming calls come in, the ringer is routed to the stereo but when I answer it the voice doesn't and I have to hang up and call the person back.
I paired my work Nokia with the stereo and both incoming and outgoing calls work fine.
I tried the original T-Mobile ROM and still had the same trouble.
I'm assuming (with no knowledge of what I am talking about) that the bluetooth stack on WM6 has some issue with routing incoming calls but I can't find any reference to this problem anywhere else and it would seem to be the kind of problem I'd expect millions of users to have a problem with and that there would be a lot of posts.
Does anyone else use bluetooth handsfree? Does it work properly? Does anyone use a bluetooth stereo and A2DP? Does it work properly? Does anyone know if there's a fix?
Thanks for the info in advance...
mine works Ok with my BT2500 although sometimes it needs to be re-paired
Info
Can you tell me what ROM version you have and what model your phone is, radio version, installed programs etc? so I can try changing things.
If you hae a2dp music being streamed and a call comes in does it still work?
ROM is UK Vodafone out-of-the box original (v1615 = Tytn II) 1.56.161.4
Radio is 1.27.12.11
Have Seuth255's A2DPFix from the Hermes forums (prevents skipping)
MS Voice Command V1.6 (i have a SE BT headset too)
Remainder are general apps, gps etc.
haven't tried a call when music is streaming. will do later and let you know
Works for me too, with the original HTC ROM.
Everything is working fine here. I have a MEX-BT2507X, and there's some random 0.2sec cut every 15mins of playtime, but that's not a problem.
Have you used the quickfix from HTC?

I didn't know about the HTC Quickfix. I've just downloaded it and installed but haven't got round to leaving the PC to test it yet. I'll give it a go later and post back.
Fingers crossed...
Audio not working
My audio is not playing through the car speakers with the BT-2500. I had it professionally installed, but was running late to class so I didn´t fully test it until I got home a few hours ago.
I can control the tracks and play/pause, accept/end calls, and the dash microphone works, but my audio is not being pushed and played for some some reason (does work for CD, and Radio). I tried repairing numerous times, resets, and different programs, but no luck... but audio push worked great on a handsfree kit.
any ideas are greatly appreciate... I will take this back to the shop tomorrow, but I would like to know if anybody else experienced this and how they fixed it.
Thanks!! =)
btw, I use stock AT&T rom

...much, much later...
I finally got round to trying it out and even with the quickfix I still have the same problem. My mate also has a Kaiser so I borrowed that (UK O2 ROM I think) and that doesn't work either.
Most odd. maybe I'll ring Sony.
I have the same problem with my Jabra 620s. Maybe somethings wrong with the headset itself?
Can you let me know ur ROM, radio versions so I can see if we have anything the same.

Bluetooth carkit problems?

Hello people,
i've been searching but couldn't find a thread about bluetooth carkit probs with diamond.
I have a parrot 3100 and always worked just fine with the wm6.1 device I had (Prophet).
But with diamond it's quite a mess.
When phone rings:
- Parrot rings
- Answers call
- Parrot mutes (? Mute-symbol on parrot)
- Cannot unmute, on phone there is no sound.
- Sometimes parrot disconnects a second or two.
When making call
- Also mute problem
- Other line can't hear me, must talk in phone?
Even buggy, sometimes hangs, just working really annoying, cannot rely on the carkit. Missed several callers today.
But, sometimes it just works...
Anyone recognised this, any fix or workaround? It should be able to work propery.
Also wonder, why my parrot gives the contacts as contact /m for mobile and contact /w for work in normal list, instead of grouping them under one name (contact -> work, mobile etc).
Have you tried firmware upgrade on your Parrot 3100?
http://www.parrot.com/uk/support/downloads
OMG what an Idea.
I'll take this laptop into my car and fix it.
I have the same parrot and I'm having similar issues. It's annoying because when it gets "muted", the parrot is functioning as if had a call and it blocks the music from the cd-player and it won't get unblocked until I turn off my car.
I think I'll try to update the parrot firmware as staroip said...
you can give this software a try.
http://www.jetwaremobile.com/
This has been solved similar problems with my CK3000.
\\yoshi
Version 4.17 of the Parrot software more than solved the issue!!
* good contact syncing
* better voice quality
* no hangs at all
I'm happy
Hi all,
I also have problems with bluetooth and my Audi Bluetooth kit:
Connecting and phoning works fine but:
the phonebook:
- Names are wrong displayed (Surename and name are switched)
- on every number he deleted the "+" ... :-( on the car-screen (MMI)
In the phonebook on the diamond all Numbers have the e.g. +49 ... but on the screen in my car there is no "+" and of course the number without the "+" does not work...
- special chars like ä, ö, .. are not displayed correktly...
So what can I do, and whats that Parrot software you are talking about? EDIT: I just saw the parrot is an external bluetooth kit, right? So no solution with parrot software for my problem
FYI: I had a sony ericsson W950i with Symbian before and there everything worked perfektly with my bluetooth car system, so I hope I can also fix the problems on my Diamond with WM 6.1 ...
Thanks,
MrDiamond.
How did you update your Parrot kit?
Can you do it over bluetooth?
Been using the TD in my Land Rover (Discovery 3) with its bluetooth PTI. Works like a dream.
Auto connects, access to dialled, missed and received calls. Address book navigation using head unit and steering wheel control.
Better than when using my Nokia N95... that never did work with the recent called, dialled, missed lists.
Ironically the LR PTI is made by Nokia
Just need a power charger now as having a bluetooth connection running all the time kills the battery big time.

Bluetooth stops/crashes when connected to Car kit

Hi,
When my phone is connected to my car kit (Opel/Vauxhaul UHP) bluetooth sometimes stops randomly. I can turn bluetooth on again with the commmanager and everything is working again. But it can hapen again after a few minutes.
Does anyone have this problem to or even better a solution?
I allready tried all the different Radio Roms, but this didn't solve my problem.
Well with mine i have some hickus but it just happpends once a while.
Most irritating about Diamond and BT in my opinion is that wa have no equalizing for it. and the sound setup from the begining is horrible.
Asked here if anyone has a solution before but none replied.
But as far 2 your problem no. And i use a Pioneer system in my car.

I have a Honda Accord with handsfree built in and I too am having problems. The phone and car both agree that a connection has been made but when i use it to either ring out or receive a call the radio mutes and when receiving the ringing tone sounds over the car speakers but I can`t hear the caller except on the phone which isn`t very useful. Would a ROM or radio upgrade help or is it just a compatibility problem

Thanks Mauser. I tried Jetware as you suggest and I`m afraid it didn`t help in fact I think it crashed the handsfree system in the car like you. This is the final nail in the coffin for my Diamond. I just can`t get used to it so it`s off to Ebay with it.

I am very pleased with my Diamond... I would sooner put my car on eBay than my Diamond
Did you try to check almost everything on in the advanced settings of Jetware? I have also limited the phonebook sync to max 5 entries to debug and on the site of Jetware there wat a fix for Opel car kits.
Keeping my fingers crossed, but until now I haven't experienced any bluetooth crashes.

Thanks again Mauser. I tried various settings but without any success, I think the phone is just not compatible with the Honda. Having said that I don`t have much luck with bluetooth at all on the phone. More often than not It just won`t detect other bluetooth devices and when it does it won`t send or receive files so it`s time for it to go and I can go back to a trusty Nokia
Problems here with BT connection to car kit, too. I'm using the built-in car-kit of an Audi A4 (standard one not that with navigation, remote SIM, etc). I've noticed the following issues:
- when I try to make a call, the CD is cut off but NOTHING is heard in the car speakers UNTIL the other party answers the call (and then I start the conversation). No ringing tone, no nothing. I cannot hear the busy tone, or network failure/congestion tone and this is annoying since I have to keep an eye on the phone to see what's happening. I found myself checking the phone when, after calling someone, nothing happened and in fact I got a busy tone and the call ended.
- sometimes, when I receive a call, the CD stops playing but when I answer nothing is heard from the car speakers but only from the phone (as davemazo said also).
- when I receive a call, I hear in the car speakers a "standard" calling tone, not the ringtone I have assigned for that contact
I have to mention that with any Nokia I had before (and still have one as a second phone), these problems do not exist. I know there is a compatibility between Audi factory installed car-kits and Nokia, but BT is a standard and most of the functions should be supported despite the phone model/type. I've tried also with an iPhone and it's working great, as my Nokia do. I don't understand why it is like this with the Diamond. In fact, I think it is not related to Diamond itself...it's doing like this with ANY Windows Mobile device I've tried in the past (Orange C600, Samsung I600).
Are there any solutions for this? A CAB, a new BT radio, a software, anything?... I don't want to buy a new BT car-kit and try with different models until I find something compatible
Thank you for any info/tip

Hi Rapier,
I also had a SPV C500, MDA Compact, Qtek 8500, Samsung I600, HTC Touch Dual and now the Diamond. The only one which gave me no troubles was the SPV C500, but I think that was because this phone didn't support phonebook synchronization and had no network identification/signal strength over bluetooth.
After the SPV C500 it went wrong. First I noticed that after a hard reset it worked for a few days. Later (about 2 years later ) I found out that it was because the call history was going to long to sync over bluetooth.
Then I found Jetware in which you can limit syncing to any number of items. They even had a fix for the connection to my carkit.
Unit now... it works like a charm... but keep my fingers crossed
I don't know if your carkit is a Audi UHV, but I saw that they had a fix for that too! You have to just install Jetware and then run the fix-file from your phone. Good luck!!
P.S. I am in no kind related to Jetware, I just found out that it worked for me.
Yes, I have an Audi UHV 6634. Thank you for the info, I'll try that and post the results here. Though, my car-kit is not the advanced one and I don't have to sync anything with it (contacts or something else). It's most working as a plain hands-free device, no extra functions...speaking of which, I've noticed that on the phone is detected as "hands-free"...why not "car-kit" as I know a car-kit has other functionality as well? This is the "standard" BT device for any audio enhancements (even if it is a car-kit not a BT headset), or I have to activate something to be recognized as car-kit?

my Honda system doesn`t read the sim I can only dial out via handsfree using contacts i`ve entered into the Honda system otherwise I either have to read the number to the system and it will ring out (most of the time anyway) or make the call on the phone (illegally obviously) cancel the call and then say "redial" and the system makes the call. So uless I`m misunderstanding this setting I don`t think it will help me.
I`ve searched the Jetware website and I couldn`t find a fix for my Honda
UPDATE: So...I've downloaded it, install it on my Diamond (including the extension file for Audi UHV) and...no change. Everything as before with both issues. Disappointed, I've uninstalled Jetware then...surprise. AFTER uninstall, I can now hear through my car's speakers the ID ringtone Maybe some BT settings were altered and remained like this after uninstall, but I don't know why it didn't work when Jetware WAS installed...strange.
Anyway, many thanks...at least half of the problems are now solved and this only by install/uninstall a program...that's cool. I must now find a way to make the car kit ring when I make a call, this is still an issue.
P.S. I've seen that Diamond support Headset and Handsfree profiles...and when connected to my car kit is set as Handsfree. I suppose this is better than Headset...but still no ring out tone.

Hello,
I have a Mercedes car kit and facing the same issue as you: everything works perfectly for a few days when hard-resetting my device, even with my 500+ contacts (they are loaded in less than a minute), but after a few days/weeks I can't get to have my call history or contacts displayed in less than half an hour!
Yesterday I thought I'd just hard reset my device because I had this problem again, but unfortunately it didn't work!
Guess what I have done differently this time: yes, I backed up and restored my call history, which I hadn't done the previous times! So I guess it is indeed related to the call history, but I can't test for now!
I have installed JetWare and limited the call history to 5 numbers, I'll try this tonight and I'll keep you informed...
Hello,
So I have tested this yesterday (installed Jetware and limited the call history to 5 numbers), and now it works FLAWLESSLY! I can browse through my 500 contacts instantaneously when I pair my phone with my Mercedes car kit.
So, in my case it was also clearly the CALL HISTORY that was causing problems... A BIG BIG thanks to Mauser for pointing out this!
I'm also having problem connecting my Diamond to my Volvo S80. All the other functions work except that I could not hear the other party through my car stereo and I also could not diconnect the call with my car end key.
I'll try the Jetware and I'll report back later. Thanks for the pointer.

Typical, I really wanted this. I still get the same pairing problems (paired but not connected). Then after repeating the same process up to about 10 times is pairs and connects. From then on it's fine for receiving calls. But initiating them just isn't working for me.
So on the kits that work, how does it work, does it use the voice search (ie the one requiring a data connection) or the old style voice dialler?
Does it give you any confirmation before calling, just in case it's picked up the wrong person?
Works okay for me with a no-name bluetooth headset. I press the "attention/answer" button on the headset, the screen pops over to the voice dialing screen with some instructions, and the headset says "Speak now." I say, "Call John Smith". The headset says "Calling John Smith" and the dialer pops up and dials. It does not ask for confirmation, unfortunately (Voice Commander under Windows Mobile says, "Calling John Smith?" and you have to respond "Yes" or "No"); I guess they assume you can hit the "end" button and try again if it got it wrong. (I haven't used it much, but it's two-for-two getting the callee right on the test calls I've made.) I didn't check whether it needed a data connection or not; sorry.

For my car kit it does ask for confirmation. I guess it depends, which car kit do you have that your having contectivity problems? Foryo is much improved for me in that regard.

I've got a Parrot CK3000 EVO. Worked fine in windows mobile, but in eclair and froyo I do get it to pair and connect after lots of attempts, just can't get the voice dialling working.
I've ordered an updating kit for the bluetooth set in the hopes that a newer firmware for it may help. I'll update this once I've got it.

I've ordered an updating kit for the bluetooth set in the hopes that a newer firmware for it may help. I'll update this once I've got it.

I also have a parrot evo 3k and I'm interested to hear what you find out.
Is there a consolidated thread with compatibility or test results anywhere?
I have CM 6.0 RC1 running on my G1
My Plantronics 340 seemed to work great for voice dialing, but my car kit and other BT pieces don't.
I did get think outside BT keyboard and BT mouse working
I am running CM 6 RC1 on a Dream, with a Motorola H700 headset.
I got them to pair up without any problem, and it seems to be working without a data plan or wifi connection.
However, I noticed a couple of issues:
1) The "speak now" prompt is extremely quiet, even with volume levels maxed out on both the phone and the headset
2) It only works if the screen is "awake", meaning I still need to hit MENU on the phone in order for my command to be acknowleged (not very hands-free, is it? hopefully this is a bug in Froyo that will be soon repaired!). This is a bad thing for me, 'cuz here in Quebec, you can get a ticket for inappropriate touching of a cellphone while driving.
3) If it thinks it has the right phone number, it says "calling {whoever}", and then proceeds to dial without further warning, which is dangerous since when it speaks the "calling" notification, that too is very low volume
Is this just my configuration? Perhaps a limitation of the Dream hardware? Perhaps (this is me dreaming in technicolor) a simple software setting that needs changing?

Bluetooth not working in BMW iDrive-System

I can't connect my HD7 with my hands free system in my BMW. It just won't connect. Anyone could make it work?
Mine won't work in my ford sync system, ironically made by Microsoft as well. Lol
Worked on mine and in the MINI...
Go into the settings on the car, click pair new device, it will ask you to search for the car, search on the phone, and pair them.
Once they are paired it takes a while but your contacts and text messages will be on the car.
Works ok in my Toyota

Thats useless information unless your Toyota has BMW iDrive System.
Mine has successfuly paired with the 7er iDrive System. The only thing you have to know is the bluetooth code of your car. You have to set the car to the pairing mode and on the phone set up the search for the bluetooth devices. You should see the bluetooth headset device named as the last 7 digits of your VIN CODE e.g. mine is: DS79xxx. Then click on the phone on this device and enter the bluetooth code of the car (its somewhere in the manual) and thats it. It takes some time, till the contacts are synchronized with the car and it depends on how many contacs you have in your phone. I have almost 1000 contacts, so it takes couple of minutes.
I tried couple times. I put the i-drive system in pairing mode and I can find the headset in the phone, but when I tap in the headset the connection fails.
Will be pairing my 3 series today and report back.

Ironically it was more helpful than your post
I appreciate all the posts about your bluetooth experiences. I had no problem pairing my HD7 to my Plantronic Discovery 925. The problem is with the BMW system. It worked fine with my previous phones (TP, TP2, HD2, HD2 Android). I'm glad to know that it is working on other BMW, Mini & Toyota (I also own a Toyota, but it doesn't have bluetooth). It means that it will work for me too, I'm just need to keep trying, and I'll do so after work tonight.
It also works fine in my w204 Class, w212 Eclass and 3rd Gen Prius.
Also works with Parrot Bluetooth and BMW non idrive Bluetooth in E92 3er.
You dont state what model of BMW or version of iDrive you have which may help?
As for you Homer.web posting similar info about your 7er would be more use than the unhelpful comments that you have come up with so far. Grow up.

It's a 2006 M5. I don't know the iDrive version.
I was able to successfully pair my HD7. I tried first thing after starting the car (I don't know if that made the difference), but it finally worked.
Thank you everyone.

I dont think, that it make sence if somebody asks particular question, answer something totaly different. How would you like the answer from the BMW service if you call them, that you have e.g. problem with CD player in your BMW car and they would reply: We tried it on Mercedes Benz car and it works OK.
So: if the topic is so specific, its good habit to answer specific post to that topic.
If you have an urge to tell the world, that you successfuly paired your phone with the bluetooth headset, start the new general topic called "Pairing HD7 with headset/car/..."
I paired mine easily the first time. Working perfectly.
