It depends on if your phone has 4.4.2 already, and if you can unlock your bootloader.
If you have 4.4.2 on your phone already and can not unlock your phone's bootloader, you can't root.
If you can unlock your bootloader, then see THIS THREAD
If you can't unlock your bootloader, and have 4.4 or lower on your phone then see the SLAPMYMOTO thread

SBF from 4.4 sprint rom to 4.2.2 RW stock

Ok i am well aware that some things will not work on my phone, but would like to test some things and possibly see about getting 4.4 working on my Republic Wireless phone. My question is if i flash a Rom can i just SBF back using the RW.sbf file? Also yes i unlocked my Bootloader using the $43 method. So i don't think there should be an issue. Some have mentioned that there was a Bootloader change and that you can't Downgrade...can anyone Confirm this or have a link to the info? Thanks Guys
Its downgrading from 4.4.2 that can cause big issues....if not done a certain way.

he is correct you can flash what ever android version you want expect for 4.4.2 and the very first 4.2.2 before the camera update.

Need A Few Questions Answered.

Okay I am wanting get a Moto X soon with my contact expiring, and I am in to custom ROMs, rooting etc, but when I search the Moto X there's information i'm confused on.
First can non developer editions be unlocked? I am with Alltel atm which is a CDMA carrier who have the regular Moto X, can that be unlocked?
They are being slowly taken over and transitioned to GSM by AT&T, I like the idea of the Moto X but if I can't both root it and unlock the boot loader I am going to skip it.
I don't have the kind of money to buy the developer edition just to use it on my current carrier.
Thank you in advanced!
The moto x DE isn't much more than the regular one. What carrier? Verizon and at&t can't be unlocked. Or rooted if they come with 4.4.2.
Honestly, if your into flashing And whatnot....you want the N5. No question.
As much as I love the X....its not a flashers phone.
If you want to unlock the bootloader, you need to get an GSM version. Get the Dev Edition version so you won't lose your warranty from unlock it.
If you want to flash rom there is no point of getting the Moto X for two reason;
1. There is almost no roms for it.
2. You lose all the features of the Moto X. If you don't want the Moto X features, there is no point of getting it, there are other phones with better specs.

Which I love because now I spend much more time actually using the phone and it's practical features rather than flashing.

Yes, but I heard with ATT and Verizon not yet for ver 4.4.2, I could be wrong. But as long as you buy unlocked version getting bootloader unlocked is very easy.

At the moment, if you're already on 4.4.2 with a Verizon or at&t retail phone....there's no way to root.

It is totally possible, but you'll have to unlock your bootloader, on 4.4.2 there's no way of rooting without doing it

If you can unlock your bootloader, your set! If you can't, not happening. Sorry.
You can try the Chinese fellow who is selling unlock codes, if yours can't be at moto site. 45 dollars. If your phone is on his list.
Good luck!
Thank yall. Ill see what i can do :good:

I don't know if vzw provides unlock codes.
But what I can say is warranty won't affect your chance of getting an unlock code.
You should check on moto website.
If you enter the imei number they'll tell you whether it can be unlocked

No. Moto will never give out the bootloader unlock code on the Non-Developer Edition XT1060 (likely due to their contract with Verizon), and Verizon does not give them out (for dev edition either).
And with the locked bootloader, once 4.4.4 is on your phone, you can't root it.

Its likely for an OLDER ROM.
There were about 3 or 4 different processes for X with a locked bootloader, but it was based on ROM version on the phone (i.e. 4.2.2 w/camera update, 4.4, 4.42). Once 4.4.4 is on there, all past vulnerabilities that were exploited on phones with locked bootloaders have been patched/closed, so if you have 4.4.4 on the phone and can't unlock the bootloader, you can't root.

Need root method

Hey does anyone have a one click root method for the moto x 2014 (XT1092)? Don't wanna manually root it coz I'd probably stuff something up, thanks.
Currently, there is no one click root method for moto x 2014, and as I can see, there won't be any.
The ONLY way for us to root is by unlocking the bootloader, installing twrp and root using supersu or something like that.
Kingroot brags about that they can root android 5.1 but when you try with our phone, you get failed/there is no strategy method available.
As far as I know, you have xt1092 so you are able to unlock your bootloader. I have verizon's xt1096 and I can't do that , and probably won't be at all.

Have you tried getting Motorola to unlock your xt1096? It seems there have been quite a few people successfully unlocking their carrier branded Moto X 2014. I can't comment on whether or not it is true since I have XT1095, but I'm just saying......

Well, I've done that already a year ago... Motorola made it available to unlock the xt1096 bootloader.
I moved to Galaxy s7 already so it's not relevant for me but thanks!
