[Q] a kernel question for devs - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys
Not sure if this issue is only with my phone or others have it too.
The issue is that on any kernel that is not stock, such as doomkernel, xzk and cm/aosp, the WiFi likes to disconnect after a while of sleep then refuse to find most networks again. This issue persists even after restarting WiFi. The only way to fix it is reboot the device.
My question is, in your custom kernels, is there something different in terms of WiFi compared to original stock kernel? If so, could you help me diagnose the issue?
I ran a logcat and it said something about an error with wpa2 psk

Post your logcat.
Yes, the WiFi modules in the custom kernels are different from Sony's. And we don't have access to Sony's source code for this.

Which ROM do you use??
In the stock ROM wifi always crashes. Try another rom.

if you use custom rom, the problem may come from it.
beside, you didnt give any detail information.

Okay;
The problem in the stock rom is the wifi driver. It fails alot, than if you try to start wifi, it says "error", or it simply wont connect.
I dont know the exactly problem, but after installing cyanogenmod 7 the drivers has been fixed, so wifi works pretty good.
If you want to stay stock, you should upgrade to 2.3.4 or higher, the gb roms dont have extreme driver failure, if wifi wont connect, keep turning on / off wifi, finaly it will connects.
In stock 2.2.1 wifi fully crashes if you restart wifi a few times. It will say "error", and you need to reboot the phone.

WiFi Not Connecting On Any Network

Recently my phone stopped connecting to all WiFi networks. When I turn WiFi on it says "obtaining IP address" and then instead of connecting says "saved". The phone is running stock ICS and is rooted. If you need anymore technical details I'd be happy to provide them
Here is what I have tired so far
-ensured airplane mode is off
-rebooting the phone
-pulling the battery
-resetting my router (i really believe this is a phone problem as it happens with my wifi at work as well)
-running scripts in the terminal
-ran the FXR Wifi Fix and rescue app
-set IP to static
Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Uhh...
A reboot didn't fix it?
Is your bootloader locked... Maybe try a new kernel if that's an option...

Turns out the bootloader was unlocked. Just re-locked the bootloader, but still no WiFi. Do you recommend any kernels?
You're sure you haven't been playing with Roms and Kernels? If you're S-On and you start trying roms without flashing the boot.img file associated with the rom separately, you get similar wifi connectivty issues as you are describing.

Thanks for your reply. In the past, around 3-4 months ago I was heavily messing with ROMS (not kernels though). Now I am on stock ROM, I flashed the boot.img of the stock ROM before I flashed it and WiFi was working for 3-4 months. Just a couple of days ago it stopped working and I have no idea why.
Confirmed that phone won't connect to any WiFi network
Just drove down to McDonalds and tried to connect to their free WiFi. Same results, no connection. Any further help is appreciated!
I blame poor coding on HTC...
Unlock your bootloader and flash faux's kernel via fastboot and then the zip to get proper WiFi drivers...

this sound like the start of the problem i have. it started with the signal dropping and a reboot fixed it. after a few days i lost all signal and iv never been able to get it back. iv tried changing baseband gone back to stock changed the RIL and nothing has worked. ive pretty much given up on finding a fix.
i am seeing this problem pop up more and more i really hope someone is able to find a fix.
similar problem here. it happens if I leave wifi area without switching wifi off. Effect: high battery drain, sporadically network "locks" and broken sync (reddish network symbol in quick settings). I'm on cm 11 actual nightly,. tried other roms without success.
Fiddling with some settings, but only way to get a temporary fix: reboot to recovery, wipe cache an dalvik, reboot. Afterwards got sync and network (symbol white).
We can only guess at what the issue is, without logs

Can't connect to ANY WiFi on ANY custom kernels

Hi all, I'm back with another proplem!
Around a month ago I was running AICP and KMA Kernel and just randomly one day I couldn't connect to any WiFi networks at all, I've tried a whole combination of ROMs and Kernels and the only thing that seems to work is having a ROM with the kernel it comes with, Meow, KMA, Hodor are the Kernels I've tried so far on various different ROMs but none work at all, it just says "error connecting" or something similar, I can't connect to WiFi networks on ANY Lollipop ROMs either!
I have already had a look through the forums for a fix but so far haven't found anything, I've trued flashing nandroid backups and re-flashing stock .283 but still haven't had any luck, I'll try and pull a logcat in a little while!
Has anyone else encountered this and if so do you know the cause/solution? I'd be very grateful indeed if someone would be able to help me out!
Beans
Bump, I really need help here guys!

Has your wifi mac address changed? If so add it to your router configuration

Wi-Fi tethering?

Hello I have a Razer Phone 2 on AT&T that I just unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP, magisk and Arter97 kernel. Everything is working great, except for Wi-Fi tethering. I can switch it on but anything that connects to it reports no internet.
Any ideas what could be causing it? I've seen quite a few people complain about Wi-Fi issues with Arter97's kernel, could that be the cause?
I kinda want to install a custom rom but I just got everything set up to be my daily driver so I'm not in a hurry to go through the process of backing up all of my stuff again.
If you can provide any help, suggestions or advice I'd appreciate it!

Try toggling mobile data off then on with the tethering enabled as a workaround.

Tried turning on Wi-Fi tethering, turning mobile data off and back on, devices connected to my tethering still unable to connect to the internet.
Had the same issue, for me it was fixed by reflashing stock rom then going back to custom kernel again.

Did you try this? https://forum.xda-developers.com/razer-phone-2/how-to/how-enable-tethering-root-required-t3911163
It worked! All that was needed was to simply toggle and enable the tethering feature! My only problem was that I he no idea about this buildprop. Thank you so much! Now my Razer Phone 2 is all set to be my daily driver!
