[Q] Rules of Flashing - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone make a list that shows how to flash and not flash?
Locked Bootloader with Root:Custom Kernels, Mods, Custom Roms, Custom Kernels, Stock Kernel?
Unlocked Bootloader with Root: .................
This way we have an easy way to know what to do and what not to do.
If you feels this is an unnecessary thread, just ignore it and let it die.

So if i have unlocked bootloader, it's hard to brick the phone?

You mean like the ones already given in the how to guides in the general and development sections?

I don't feel they are specific enough.
I feel they are missing out on explaining some parts.

Theoretically Yes, but in the main time you think you can do anything and you can flash something what really brick your phone, so I will be careful anyway.

Yes, you can flash Stock, Custom kernel like you like and any Stock, Custom Rom.
BUT I will not recommend to flash anything what it was not made for your model. So if the kernel is made for C6943 I will not flash it on C6903. Respect the compatibility.

There are already some posts about the unlocking of the bootloader, so you can read them carefully and see how is the state of the art.
And about the custom roms, I think Dexter just heard you and built one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085710

Yes looks tasty but no radio yet! We atleast need calls and data. But thats great work so far.
See no real reason not to have a fully working custom rom, as unlocked boot loader is not a must!
Several other devices have locked boot loader and have great working custom roms. : O)

as far as i have seen o4x has a pretty good and stable kernel so u dont need one unless u want to oc
and that could be achieved with modules as well if module loading is suported by the kernel...
I wan't everything what is possibile. What about some missing functionality let's say iptables? Some day LG will end support of the phone, what then?

Yes, I know, apparently LG found out, that I'm buying their phone so they decided to unlock bl. Still I don't trust them, so I advise to continue development rather than wait for them.

Where can I get original firmware?

Hi all
I want to replace the bootloader and install root and maybe CM.
But I was looking for the original bootloader and more importantly, the original firmware so in case I do not want to stick with CM or want to send it in for warranty, I can reset it all.
Could somebody point me to where I can download the needed files?
Thank you guys and girls
I need to inform you that you cannot replace the bootloader. You can only unlock it. Once that is done your warranty is void.
Now I am not sure if that works so someone will have to confirm or you will have to google it, but the RUU resets your phone to stock.
Here is a link to the GolfU RUU
Alternatively you can flash stock ROM, recovery and kernel from this thread right here.
Happy flashing, any further questions you are welcome to ask :3

cyanogenmod installer

So what do guys think about the new installer and do you think it would support our device
The installer seems to be a great opportunity to anyone who does not know anything about flashing ROMs. It makes it accessible to everyone, but doesn't that mean that there will be more people who don't know what they're doing?

Unlocked before rooting

Hi Guys
I have unlocked the bootloader before rooting.
Now I am confused on how to proceed since nothing like this was described here.
I am using a C6906 and a tft that is not present on the site.
Thanks.
Just flash a custom kernel.
If you are on 14.2.A.1.136 firmware and just want root and recovery, you can consider DooMLoRD's kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2632808
Else, pick the appropriate kernel from the Android Development or Original Android Development sections.

Yes. Not really, but it's said that Bravia Engine, X-Reality, Bionz features are also lost due to the lack of DRM keys. But solution is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2635986
And e re question.
DO you know if that kernel supports c6906?

I rooted my device.
It looks good.
However how do I bring back the features you mentioned. In the thread is mentions to install only one zip while in the original thread there are two zip files. You on the other hand mentioned 3 things. I am a bit confused.
In addition, since I did not change any rom yet, why cant I export my TA?
Saving your TA must be done before you unlock your bootloader.
I can't help you on the files that will bring back those features. You should post your questions in that thread.

Help, newbie questions before installing new ROMs/Recovery System (Xiaomi Redmi 4X)

As stated on the topic I'm a newbie in the world of installing new roms, etc on android phones and I haven't done it before cause I'm a bit scared by the whole thing (I don't want to end up with a brick), I managed to install a custom recovery system on an old samsung and a new ROM, yet with Xiaomi even if it might be the same looks a bit different, so before proceeding to do anything with my current phone I have a couple of newbie questions:
-Can FastBoot be broken somehow?
-Can I use ROMs of other devices (Besides of the Redmi 4x)?
-Can I somehow break the phone irremediably?
-If so, what should I avoid to prevent it?
-Is a custom recovery necessary, or can I use default Xiaomi's one?
-What's the best recovery?
-If I install recovery via fast boot, do I need to root my device?
-What tools should I look forward to use on linux (Ubuntu)?
Those are my questions for now, if you wanna say anything else that should be taken into consideration, feel free, also if you wanna share some useful guide.
First off a little bit of advice don't ask so many questions no one is likely to answer you because unless the person is really bored and has an hour to spare he will not answer you format your question and ask just a couple of questions that are most vital to what you are doing. Also do some research on your own. Your more out to get some help if someone can see you have put forth a little effort. Cheer's

Ok Here you go..
-Can FastBoot be broken somehow?
don't use fastboot.. instead use custom recovery for anything.. wether you're reverting back to MIUI from custom ROM or anything else. Use Fastboot option to Flash recovery only. then your FastBoot will be safe

Yes, you may if you dont follow the set of instruction for performing in Fastboot/Recovery. But dont worry a few research can UNBRICK your phone.

Read Instruction carefully, if going to custom ROM wipe all partition like data, cache, system or you will face bootloop(Phone stuck at bootlogo) also Unlock your bootloader in order to perform all the dirty tasks

100% necessary for many customizations.. even for rooting now-a-days

TWRP Recovery & use only which the Redmi 4X Forum provides and follow instructions carefully as stated earlier
