[Q] Z won't root! - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys, I've been trying to use the tool found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33470626#post33470626
to root my Z. It's the most up to date version (That I could find) and I does say that it covers Xperia Z. I've wateched the tutorial so, so carefully but I'm not getting anywhere. Hopfully one of you can help?
I simply get presented with a request to connect my Xperia device enabled USB debugging to the computer.
I've checked that I've enabled USB debugging, allowed installation of 3rd party apps, disabled verification just in case. I've installed all drivers, and PC Companion. I've uninstalled any android anti-virus. I've tried different cables and USB ports, and each time my computer recognises the attachment of the handset. The only odd thing is that when I check in CMD (under administrator mode) to see if the device is attached is shows:
C:\Users\Meee\Desktop\Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v33>stuff\adb devices
List of devices attached
BX903J6LHC offline
Any idea how I can resolve this and get rooted?
Using an Xperia Z running 4.3 Build Number 10.4.1.B.0.101
Thanks guys!

There is no way to directly root 4.3 with an exploit/tool such as the one you posted.
You either need to downgrade, root then flash a prerooted rom or unlock your bootloader.
See here for a detailed method that unlocks then relocks the bootloader - How to root 4.3.

After unlock/recovery/root, how to return to stock?

Hi there!
I've unlocked using flashtool, installed CWM Recovery and rooted using the recovery-only root.
Now, I need to return the phone to as stock as possible - certainly removing root, but relocking the bootloader would be a good secondary objective.
My current plan is to use the flashtool to relock the bootloader, then use the PC software to repair the phone. Will this work?
Thanks for your help
Edit: I've searched the forums but can't find an answer, including in the starting thread - please link to a relevant portion instead of the whole thing if possible
Further edit: There's no 'relock' option in the flashtool - huh?

As of now there is no option to relock the bootloader. You can unroot the phone by simply performing a repair system command in Sony PC Companion or flashing a stock rom. This has been explained in every single rooting or custom MOD thread.
Ya you are right. Relock bootloader using flashtool and repair or flash a ftf from flashtool.
And IIRC in the beta version of flashtool u will find option to relock under BLU. And btw u won't get back DRM keys and no Bravia engine.

I don't see the option to relock anywhere - perhaps as I did the unlock on another PC?
If you can't get it to work with PC Companion use SUS (Sony Update Service which you can download from Sony's website) http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/update-service/ --> for UK

You have to relock the bootloader with flashtool beta4,click on BLU.
Flash a stock rom and repair it by update service.

Thanks - I expected there to be a separate button for relocking - whoops!
I've flashed the stock ROM and that's gotten rid of the root. It also says that the bootloader can be unlocked, so that seems all perfect as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for your help, ladies and gentlemen.

Rooted and updating to 4.3

Hey guys I have a rooted Xperia Sp(C5302). We know that our device is gonna get the 4.3 official update next month. My question is can we update to the official 4.3 even after having root or will it cause a problem.

As said above, root is no problem with PC Companion.
However, if you unlock the bootloader, no update whatsoever (PC Comp, OTA). After bootloader unlock only Flashtool /Emma will let you flash new ROM/updates.

Hi , so if i Relock the boot loader i will be able to use ota rite?
which is the safest method to Reload the Boot loader
I am using BL Unlocked Rooted Stock Rom ,
I think Sony stated on their unlock website that once you unlock the boot loader there's no way to relock. Check out unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com

[Q] Sony Xperia Z1 Needs Rooting?

Hi there xda community.
I have been interested in rooting my android devices for quite some time now although with my previous phone I had no such luck (given it was a Samsung galaxy s2 with that damn Australian custom kernel)
Anyway I'm here now cause all I want to be able to do on my Xperia z1 is plug in an xbox controller and use that, online it is said I don't need a root, that I should be able to just plug it in and go (with the otg cable of course) but no such luck, my phone doesn't not indicate that it's recognised, I am running 4.2.2.
Will I need to root to be able to do this after all?
My phone specs are:
Sony Xperia Z1
C903
4.2.2
8974-AAAAANAZQ-10270011-23
3.4.0-perf-g66807d4-02450-g9a218f1
14.1.G.2.259
Is this unrootable?
Thanks in advance.

Then you should search more carefully, there is no direct root like Vroot, 360 or Cydia for .290 and .136 FW. The only way to Root Z1 is with THIS method by NUT. You have to Downgrade to .534 FW provided by NUT to not lose IMEI, Root with Bin4ar, then Update first to .290 with the instruction provided, then when you have .290 rooted follow this instruction HERE
Watch the Video tutorial Hot To Root on first link.
Okay so I now have my Xperia rooted at .136. I'm hoping now there is a way to connect a wired xbox controller, but my phone doesn't indicate that it's connected. Apologies for the questions.

Good, don't forget to click thanx. :good:
About connect Xbox Controller, what I know it cannot be connected natively because is not supported. The only controller which can be connected is from PS3. But you are Rooted and I think this can pe possible in some way.
First, try different OTG cable because I got the same problems like yours with my PS3 Controller, look HERE.
Then when you have the right cable and everything should work try to follow this Thread Hot To.
Good Luck. :fingers-crossed:
One last problem, as your probably aware now that my phone is rooted ive lost camera funcion, is there a fix for this?
Also I appear to have lost data, so I cant use the internet without wifi.
Are you sure that you only rooted? Sounds like bootloader unlock to me

Rooting device won't cause losing any camera functionality.
However, unlocking bootloader on 4.2.2 will do permanently damage - I hope you watched what did you do...
Procedure is quite clear, root firmware 534, upgrade to 290 - then unlock bootloader.
Sony fixed camera broke error but it's not for older firmware.
So if you unlocked bootloader on 4.2.2 you have permanently damaged camera.
If you have backup TA partition, restore it and do everything again and try to set up your controller with this MARKET APP

I'm not 100% sure, Google should know that (for sixaxis controller).
And for bootloader - yeap, I'm sure.
If doesn't have TA backup - there's no help.
Only if someone found some way to fix it and I haven't heard for that - but I doubt...

How?
Downgraded to NUT's 14.1.G.1.534 with flash tool rooted it with Bin4ry, installed dualrecovery then updated to 14.1.G.2.257 and finally 14.2.A.1.136.
What went wrong?

You downgraded to .534 FW provided bu NUT, Rooted with Bin4ry, Installed DualRecovery then "updated to .257", this updeate wan not necessary and instead of doing that you should update to .136 directly with the instructions from the thread, BUT this should not cause any issues what so ever.
Then you never did this steps from HERE?
Type on keyboard *#*#7378423*#* and check what Bootoader Unlock Saying, Yes, No or Unlocked?

[Q] Howto gain root with Linux?

Hi,
I'm looking forward to getting my Z1 tomorrow, and being used to having root on my device (ever since I jailbroke my iPhone 3GS) I'd like to get it here as well.
After a bit of reading I got the impression it's rather difficult compared to my previous phone - at least when I'm not having access to a windows computer.
So far I found that Flashtool will be able to unlock my bootloader - but will that be enough to flash SuperSU.zip in order to gain root?
Or is there some other way I overlooked so far? Please help an Xperia noob to make the first steps safely
I appreciate all advice, links, ...
Unlocking your bootloader alone then thats a no,
next you need to flash a custom kernel that contains a recovery
(sony xperias dont have a recovery partition)
once that is done use the recovery menu to flash a superuser or superSu zip
then you are rooted,
take note that custom kernels can only be flashed with a unlocked bootloader (UBL For short)
and also note that there are tools to root but depend on exploits and firmware version
This method of rooting is garenteed because this method doesnt depend on fw version or avaliblw exploits
some misc info
Flashable zips simply execute a script when flashed (often copying files (superuser or supersu copy the app and the SU binary to your system)
yes you need flashtool (not Emma not from sony either)
if you want me to guide you through then just reply

Hi,
great to hear, and thank you for that warm welcome to help me become familiar with the device
OK, so Flashtool needs to detect the device, then I can use it to unlock the device. I noticed DooMkernel to be rather extensive in its features, so I think I'll give that one a go.
Does unlocking the bootloader void guarantee? Or flashing a custom kernel or ROM?
What the heck is Emma?

Yes any sort of modifying will void your garentee or warrenty
and yes
download flashtool (i think links can be found on Doomlords posts)
plug in your Device
click on Bootloader unlock
and folow what it tells you
(to get your iemi code you can type *#06#* in the dialer or go to settings then about then status (it may be there)
and emma is Sony's useless flashtool (to me and you)
(you want the flashtool devloped by bin4ry , doomlord and someone else (cant spell their name)
also side note
i recomend DoomKernel,
DoomLord is a master in Xperia Devices and is very good at coding, his kernels are allways the safest to run
also some other notes make sure his kernel fw version is the same as on your z1 and also make sure that the drivers are installed for your z1
googling can help you here

i knew i was forgetting something
For OP
notes:
TA partition contains DRM keys
bravia engine and x-reality depend on your (unique) drm keys
also if your not on 4.3 it will break your camera (if you unlock your bootloader)
you can relock and restore your drm keys if you back them up

[Q] Rooting ZR + TA partition backup

Hi,
I have a Sony Xperia ZR (C5503), with stock android 4.3.
My goal is to root it and backup the TA partition before unlocking the bootloader.
I found 2 ways to backup TA partition with a locked bootloader. Both methods however require me to root my device first.
The first one redirected me to DooMLoRD's root rool
However, when I try to use it, it gets stuck waiting for device. I made sure:
- adb was running correctly (ZR drivers)
- USB-debugging was enabled
- Unknown sources was enabled
- Tried both MTP and MSC (USB connection mode)
Eventually I gave up trying.
The second one redirected me to Root MANY ANDROID!, which is unforunately incompatible with the ZR.
Now my questions are:
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong when trying to use Doomlords tool?
Does anyone know another root tool which works with a locked bootloader?
Does anyone know a way of backing up the TA partition without root access?
Thanks in advance

Hi friend, use prerooted 4.3 available in Android development forum of ZR.
It will not require you to unlock bootloader. It is very easy but carefully read all instructions.
