I find the dot view case interesting, but just not sure it's for me. I'm currently using an "Urban Armor Gear" case for my m7 and looking at cases for the T-Mobile m8 that I'm going to get. The uag is the best case I've ever used, but the tech nerd in me wants to try the newest and coolest. The dot view case almost seams samsung gimmicky to me. Opinions?
The dot view is cool but to me, that is it.
Many have complained that it does not fold back flat so you either have to push really hard or it is springy and impossible to type on. Is it cool, yes, but for me it's form over function.

ive had it for two days now and i havent had any problems typing with the front folded over. its actually a pretty great case
Honestly it's really annoying to use and I prefer a flapless case but the dots are cool.
I'll most likely return/sell it.
I like it I've used it since the second day I had the phone and the way it looks is beast. I'm used to flap cases since my s3 so they aren't new to me I've gotten used to them but the way this one feels is so much better then those so it just depends on the person
If you want it you have to throw one handed operation completely out the window.
Not to dot...

Thanks for the responses. I've ordered a uag case for the HTC One m8 I haven't even bought. I highly recommend these cases to anyone
Well, I tried really hard to like the Dot View case the past couple of days and it's going to Verizon. The novelty wore off. It didn't hold the phone as well I want it to. One drop and I can see the phone flying out of the case sliding down the floor *shudder*. The lint was driving me nuts and so was the flap. I'm going back to the Otterbox Commuter until Spigen ships the Slim Armor.

I agree. Used UAG on my SGN, SIII, M7 and finally broke down and spent the 35 bucks for the black UAG after trying about 6 other cases.
I just don't like flip cases for my phone. I also think the dots will get full of dust dirt over time. As was said, there was no way to type with one hand with the Dot View. The back was too "springy" when folded back. Maybe that will break in over time but was just not for me. It is pretty cool looking though.
Went ahead and returned it.
Impossible to use one handed and even was hard to use with two hands because of how springy the flap was.
It didn't seem like it would protect it well either. The back was cheap plastic and the sides were exposed.
The dot feature is fun but burns some battery and most features didn't even work (swipe down to voice call and some icons).
Not worth the $35 I spent on it and definitely not the $50 it retails for.

I agree with everything you said. BTW, swipe down to voice call is a setting in Motion Gestures that has to be checked. I thought it wasn't working either until I found that setting.

I consider the case unusable. At least it is unusable in a practical sense...I gave mine 24 hours and decided it was a no go. The M8 is flat out stunning...dot case, not so much.
I would like it but not getting it because it would not offer enough protection IMO looks cheap too.
I got mine yesterday. I am going to give it a few days and try it out but my first impression is, not super positive. This should be a $10-$20 accessory at best. I paid $45 on pre-order. But I am going to give it an honest try as I have never used a flipcase before which could be part of my problem.
It feels really nice, the soft touch is smooth and it looks sexy but unless there are a lot of software upgrades coming for it I don't really see the value add, and it certainly does not justify the price.
The one complaint I've seen in this thread that I kind of dipute is the landscape camera use difficulty. There is so much bezel on the top and bottom of this phone I had no issues recording stills and video last night in landscape mode.
Pros:
-Looks pretty classy
-Feels nice to the touch
-Autoscreen off on close is nice since HTC did not include a gesture off
-Swipe down to voice call gesture with case closed seems kind of usful.
-Gimmicky, you can show it to your co-workers and they are generally impressed.
Cons:
-Very little drop protection
-expensive
-no more one handed operation. I have pretty big hands and I tried for 20 mins last night to come up with a way but it is clunky and awkward at best. It is doable with my left hand fairly easily but I am right handed..
-Does not fold back flat which makes one handed use feel weird even after you get the cover opened or when setting phone down on flat surface.
-Only supports a couple HTC apps, if you have the Google edition M8 it pretty much just shows you the time and weather/temp icon. I actually had to flash back to my stock based rom last night as I've been running SinLess and this cover baiscally did nothing on the GPE rom.
-The touch sensitivity seems a little clunky. The double tap to wake without the case works just OK for me usually. But the double tap gesture with this case on seems to be more of a quadruple or more tap as the first time I double taps doesn't usually wake up the display. Coming from the LGG2 this is kind of a bummer as that phone's knock on feature was almost flawless.
All that being said, I am going to use it for at least a week and see if I can get used to it. And I am going to keep it and see if HTC updates the Dot View app in the coming months.

Completely agree with your assessment. The price was a big downside to the case. if it was $20, I could live with the shortcomings and just use it on occasion.
Agreed ^^^ I paid $25 with my work discount but had to remove my bodyguardz ultra-thin tempered glass screen protector as the flap wouldn't close flat.

So the flap on the case doesn't stay open whilst using it one handed?
I don't want to be folding the flap around the back of the phone every time I use it..?

invisibleSHIELD - Look it up for the Diamond my mate got it and it hardly shows any finger prints even after a days use and smudges whilst retaining the sheen of the device, also your back and front will be fully protected whilst keeping its form factor... if you have microscopic scratches like mine on screen that are obvious in well light conditions they will also disappear after application- ordered mine already...
Review and good pics... http://joeygadget.com/2007/08/15/on...-shield-screen-protector-for-iphone-and-treo/
They are available on ebay in most countries for Diamond - make sure you get the legit one as I am sure there are **** counterfits...
The ones for the iPhone are very hard to install and keep all of the little bubbles out, have plenty of patience when installing.
Although it is tough, the appearance after installation is extremely ugly.
Esp the screen.( no more grossy). I finally uninstalled it ( my wife said that my diamond is very ugly after the invisible shield, looks like an old PPC) and use other anti scratch screen protector and silicon case for body protection.
I have invisible shield for both 3g iphone and touch diamond...installation was easy actually but it doesnt look nice....u can tell theres something on the screen.
Would not recommend
I've already ordered one but couldn't installed it properly. It was very very hard and although I tried to be very carefully, still a lot of bubbles remained under the iShield. I put it off again and now I've got no screen protector anymore. Instead I use the original pocket case to wear the Diamond in my pocket. I think my fingers won't be able to scratch the display when touching it
Thanks for all the feedback
Interesting after install my friends one looked alright to me... hmmm I will post some pics after install and post my findings...
Anyone have a positive experience?
My friend's iPhone 3G looks MINT with it, literally can't tell it's there... But it was a ***** to install, especially around the corners.
I got one the other day and i'm sending it back, it looks apawling, far from invisible. I followed the instructions to the letter but couldn't get all of the little bubbles out, plus it just generally makes an expensive phone look like a piece of plastic junk.
Another thing is it doesn't actually cover the corners of the front of the phone so when i dropped mine the other day the corner got scratched.
Personally I wont use InvisibleSheild again as I believe their claims do not live up to the actual real world application.

Might make it look plastic, but I really can't say since my friend's iPhone IS plastic. Heh hopefully yours works out better, OP.
Mixed Views
Such mixed views - I have a feeling its down to having the patience to do the install properly - same my mates Diamond looks mint... hmmm
I had one of these for my Diamond and wasn't happy at all. I'm a very patient person but after a while it was just getting on my nerves. Trying to get it to bend around the case without leaving any air bubbles was just impossible. The parts that did stick down OK didn't look that nice either. It has a strange rubbery feel to it that I just don't like at all. I ended up ripping it off in frustration. Looked at their site and you can get your money back but you have to send it off to the states and I can't be bothered with the hassle or cost so I've just chalked it up as experience and will not recommend the product to anyone at all.
i bought and installed it right after getting my diamond. you can definetly see
that there's a protection layer on it and i wasn't at all satisfied for the first
week or so after application because the invisible shield felt sticky. it took me
the better part of 2 hours to get it right with no bubbles.
it's been some weeks now since installation and i'm pretty happy with the
shield. the stickyness is gone almost completely. i still can't slide my fingers or
stylus as smoothly over the touchscrees as without the shield tho.
in the end it's worth it for me because the device won't get any scratches at
all and i really hate scratches on my shiny devices

The back is like my favorite part of it. Makes setting it down very nice and secure.
Does it protect the camera lens well? My only complaints so far are the volume rocker and when I put the phone down face up, the camera lens rubs up against whatever surface I put it on.

That's the case my g/f got for her Shift. I actually don't like how the rubber provides a little bit of resistance when you pull it out of your pocket. Do you notice that? Or am I making that up?
I'm holding out for an offering from either Otterbox (Commuter or Impact) or Seidio (Active or Surface).
I don't notice it, but when I pull out my phone my hand covers the back.
Sent from my bathroom, with toilet paper.
Funny you post this actually. Ordered this same exact thing from un-heard of website. It was on back order though, and sadly sprint didnt have this listed when the phone first came out. Wish I ordered it from them. Would have been tons faster.
got my wife this case and hers slides out fine.
got two of these (wife and I) I'm really liking these cases, nice and snug, and I like that it holds the kb firm without stressing it (don't really use it anyway) most of the slider cases have those flimsy clips that hold it on, but these are nice and wide so they don't look like they'll crack any time soon. And yes the rubbery part on the back is very nice, gives it a solid grippy feel.
First off... The Good:
It seems to protect the screen really well, I like that I can put it in my pocket and not worry about the screen. Even though I carry just my phone in that pocket, I still manage to get scratches on a screen protector. I know the protectors scratch easier, but its still the only thing in there...
Its slim and does not add bulk to an already very large phone.
The lining helps keep fingerprints to a minimum.
It looks really good.
The Bad:
It only protects the screen... and only when in your pocket. It does not latch closed in any way, so if you drop the phone it can come open during the fall, or if you put it in a pocket or purse with other objects, they can work under the cover. Flat objects (say an MP3 player, would probably be fine)
The back and sides are not protected in any way, so some may not like that.
The Ugly:
Its designed all wrong... it is... Most of the worlds population is right handed, yet this cover is designed to best work for a left handed person. (and even the copies, and heck even the iPad "smart" cover do this)
As a right handed person, when I use my phone, I usually hold it in my left hand, and interact with the screen with my right hand... this is doubly true for this phone due to the stylus.
Even when using it one handed, the case flips open the wrong direction. It opens toward my thumb when holding it in my left hand. So instead of grabbing the phone, and using my thumb to just flip it open and let it hang there as I type out a quick text, IM, or other such actions, I must use both hands to open the cover.
I also keep my phone in my left front pocket, because it allows me to grab the phone with the hand that holds it the most, as I want my right hand free to do other things or to interact with the phone. If I kept the phone on my right side, this issue would admittingly be less a hassle, but I have other important things over there... My Space pen (as it is compact and slips in my key pocket easy) Keys... a pocket knife with a pocket clip... I even started carrying other things in my right pocket that normally went into the left, before phones became too large, and in-pocket slip cases with clips became extinct.
Think I am full of it or just complaining? If you have a flip cover, try this little experiment.
Put the phone down, cover closed, and pick it up with your left hand, and then open the cover.
Now put the phone down, and place it upside down (top of phone pointing down, so the screen is upside down when looking at it) so the cover opens to the other direction.
Pick the phone back up with your left hand and open the cover again.
See how much easier it is to manipulate?
Final thoughts:
I really want to like this thing... and I do in a lot of ways, but I will definitely need to spend a little time with it to see if I can overlook its major shortcoming.
Why Samsung didn't make two versions, one that opened each direction, I don't know...
They have some TPU style cases that include a flip cover, and the Note II is fairly symmetrical, so a little modification might allow one of those to be put on backwards, and then work as I want.
Edit:
Returned the flip cover today... it just didn't work for me. If you like it and it works, good on you and stick with it.
I ordered a TPU case and will see how that does.
I am having issues with the larger size of this phone, one handed operation is not easy. Mostly it is getting to the back button, and the "send" button for messages. (as the enter button does not send) I may or may not be keeping the phone... we will see.
I always use my phone with my right hand, but I rarely use the stylus. Landscape keyboard typing is faster and I don't care to draw or hand write much. I'm surprised it doesn't have a way of staying shut - that really defeats the purpose of it.
I work aviation... and quite often I find myself crammed into small places working, and can't spare or get my right hand to my pockets (or where ever I placed the phone) very easily. Plus just general moving around about the house, I use my phones with my left hand. I like having my right hand free just in case I need to do something.
So far, I'm always holding the Note with my left hand, and writing with the s-pen with my right hand (or thumb typing in portrait with both hands). The flip cover makes sense to me as the edge of the cover isn't digging into my (left) palm when my left hand is cradling the phone.
To each their own!

That's a pretty good point. I bet a lot of people don't think about that before buying it.
I agree with the OP, but I have to say the stock flip case is the coolest case I have ever seen. It adds almost no bulk to the phone and protects the screen perfectly. I, and everyone who has seen mine, LOVE it.
I have one and can use it with right or left hand no problem, you just get use to it. It's not ideal for everything, but it's workable.
As for using the camera, I just let it hang down out the way for landscape and hold it out the way for portrait. The ability to use voice to take photos is a big plus here
I also have a ShockSock which protects the whole phone when I'm out and about.
I'm learning to use it... but I am still unsure.

This is probably the most intelligently written and concise review I have ever read, both on this forum or on an actual review by a professional.
I totally agree with the left hand using it as a right handed person. I just received mine about an hour ago and I love the look, but I think I will be selling it as I don't want to screw it up so I can say it is indeed new. What a shame really. And yes the camera becomes a big issue.
I do think I would tire of opening the cover constantly as well. To each their own.

I was set on getting one. I only wanted a case that matched the color of the phone. When I went to the AT&T store to buy one, the rep said most of what you said. And how it got on his nerves to have to flip it around to ever use the phone. He had a S III (man I wish the Note was available in that garnet red). I played with a display that had one, and while it was soft and seemed like it would help wipe finger prints off like my TouchPad case does, it did worry me about flipping it open each time.
Just finally got the Samsung TPU case and my vinyl sample today. I am liking the case. Not bad for $18 with the Samsung coupon. Really tight, snug, and doesn't impede the S-Pen. Not as rubbery as I thought, I was worried it would be rubbery and sticky in the pocket.
I'm still getting used to the idea of a phone that isn't naked. After all these years of phones I haven't used a case before this phone.

As phones have gotten larger and even heavier, clumsiness increases... having a slick feel and no texture increases this.
After using this thing a couple days... I really think a case with some shock protection is in order. So I ordered a matte clear TPU case, matte for a little extra grippiness... and the TPU is stiff but absorbs a lot of shock when dropped.
I use my phone with my left hand, pretty much 100%. As such, I knew the stock flip would be a problem for me. I looked high and large for a vertical flip, and the best I found was this one:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009VKSVEW/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00
I have never been a fan of cases, but this thing is so large it is inviting danger, so I figured I'd give one a chance. I also dislike the rubber cases. I like clean, smooth, and easy to use without having to rethink my entire phone operation. I thought the flip at the bottom might get in the way, but I find myself holding the entire thing between my middle and little fingers, and I actually have better reach one handed now. I still don't keep it on all the time, but I won't leave home without it now. It does add some bulk, but it was the only vertical flip that had a latch that didn't add even more bulk. My wife laughed when I made a phone calk and let the flap just hang under the phone since it hung to my chest...the front has a squishier padding over the stiff inner piece, the back is much firmer. The flap actually stays shut, but I can flick it off with one finger and be using my phone, even when walking two puppies.
I'll put up some pics of it on my phone, once I find some time.
I like the looks of the flip case but functionally it hinders my use of the phone. First time some one called me I about dropped it trying to hold it appropriately up to my ear for talking.
And especially the price...I returned mine within a day.
Im right handed and always hold with my right hand. I have had the flip case on the last 3 devices ive had.. love it! Its not for everyone, but I think its awesome.. and for the record, im willing to bet if you started a poll, right handed ppl hold their note (or ANY phone) right handed and do other things with their left (im holding a cup of coffee right now). If you can thumb type real well with your left hand then you are probably not right handed.. the reason I say this is because I believe Sammy does their homework with things like this.. a righty holding with left is probably in the minority.

What do you think? I know that we are basically trading functionality for retro coolness with some usefulness. Taking a picture in landscape stinks but I was willing to live with it as it is the first case I ever used that actually is useful.
The one ish I am having that I wanted to check with others on is when I open the case it always turns on the device. However, I cant say the same is consistent on closing it. It seems like the magnet might not be strong enough or the lid heavy enough but it requires me at times to press on where the magnet is to shut off the device. I think this might be due to the lid getting a little misshaped when its flipped behind when reading. I would prefer not having to think about it and when the case is closed the device always will turn off.
Not losing any functionality as far as I know, when I close the cover on my current case its just off.

So you have one or it arrives Tuesday?
Loss of functionality statement refers to the same thing that happens to all phones with this flip style case. It makes it more difficult to take landscape pictures and one handed use. Like said ok with giving that up just want the case to work. Just trying to find out if I had a dud. Guess I will find out once more people get them.

Well I have the standard flip case that has a magnet that turns the device on and off, pretty sure thats still in the flipcase.
My dot case arrives tuesday and I am far too excited about that.

As I was when BestBuy said it was there for me to pick up. They said that that was the only one they got. Don't understand why they made so few. It does look beautiful!
I like the dot case, but not for everyday use. I just put a zagg glass on my phone and now the dot case will not close all the way.
I am using the dot view case and I dont have the issue you mentioned. My phones display goes off when the cover touches the screen.
The manual of the dot view case states that ticker screen protectors might affect the dot view cases finger gesture abilities.
PS I do not have a screen protector on mine yet

I have a nilkin tempered glass protector on mine and gestures with the dot case haven't been affected.
I love mine! I wish that you could control music with the cover on it. That's my only gripe. I like to use my phone as a music player at work to make my day go by a little quicker. I wonder if that's possible with an update....
Bah, case just got delayed a week, seems they completely underestimated the demand.
I had it for a day, then returned it. It does not protect the right side at all and in my opinion it is just a gimmick. Wait a little while until lint starts plugging the holes and then it will be just an ordinary flip case.

Well, knowing Verizon an update will arrive aprox 720 days from now. I'd really enjoy an update that makes the day go by a little quicker, since we have s-off now can we use one from another carrier? haha I have the case. Love it. First case that has actually provided screen protection. I usually throw zaggs on all my phones but i find they affect the smoothness of swiping. Just going to use the dotview and forgo the zagg.
Keep me posted on that update though!

Yeh that annoyed me, so never bother checking it until it came at the door today

One thing that's annoyed me about this case is you have to use the default HTC SMS app for the SMS notification icon to display. But that app sucks as it doesn't automatically turn your phone on when you have an SMS which I prefer. Sucks it doesn't have a popup but that's a separate issue. Anyway my solution to this is to use Tasker and the Secure Settings plugin. For incoming SMS call a task that uses Secure Settings screen on option. This didn't work right for me with my EVO LTE when I tried (screen wouldn't turn off) but this worked right away. And since the case is closed the screen on command shows the dot view sms notification.
Hopefully either HTC or some other developer expands the use of the case with a hack to the app or maybe a custom application.

Thanks for the update so hopefully its a dud case and not the sensor in the phone that's messed up
Had mine for two weeks now...I like it...obviously it could be better but the utility I get out of it and the fact that it does look pretty cool is good enough for me. I never have used a case or screen protector before on my thunderbolt or DNA so I have no basis of comparison and there's obviously cases out there that protect the phone better...but I live by the adage..don't drop your phone!
As for increased functionality with the dot view case...if it's possible it could happen quickly as htc is updating these apps in the play store..HTC dot view, tv, etc so they don't have to go through Verizon testing as part of an OTA.
As for the lint build up..I imagine a quick spray from a can of compressed air will take care of that!
Ever since I purchased the M8, I've been wanting to get the Dot View cover because in pictures it looks so cool. I have also seen a lot of videos on YouTube and it definitely looked impressive, despite some of its downfalls which were pointed out in the videos but I thought I could live with them. When I went to the HTC store last night, I wanted to try it before buying it but that wasn't possible because the box is sealed and they didn't have any ones that were open, for instance, and for $60 USD it wasn't an easy decision to make since it's just a COVER! Anyways I decided to bite the bullet since I've always thought about buying it and just going ahead and doing it. As soon as I installed it on the device, I noticed the very first problem - the Glass screen protector I have installed causes it to not close properly.
The case has magnets that allow it to fully close on the screen, but the screen protector I have installed (which I am not going to remove for a cover) blocks it from doing that. The second thing I noticed is that the rubbery front makes it uncomfortable sliding it and out of your jeans' pockets whereas plastic or hard rubber makes it easier. The third is that it doesn't properly fold on the back since the HTC's back is not straight - I already knew about that problem from the videos but I didn't think it would be that annoying. Now you can barely type on the device unless you're an expert one-handed typer (which I definitely am not). It also makes it uncomfortable to play games and use the camera.
Last but not least, the Dot View itself is not as good as I expected it to be. It only shows the time and the weather in Celsius (22 degrees, for instance) but the text itself is far from being clear, I actually have to concentrate in order to make out the time and the weather. In the pictures the text looks very clear, but in person it is not at all. I have tried different themes, same thing. I'm starting to think I ended up with a couterfeit cover (but I highly doubt it since I bought it from the only authorized HTC reseller in Egypt and the case's box has the barcode on it and everything) but then again maybe the whole 8-bit, retro style text is the reason for that.
I came across an app called Dot View M8 Mods but unfortunately it is a paid-for version and my internet visa card expired and I'll have to wait for the renewal so I can buy it. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this case to anyone who actually uses the phone frequently throughout the day. I must say it makes it easier to answer/decline phone calls and of course it is very protective since it covers the front AND the back, but everything else could have been made much better. I must say that the M7's Flip Cover is a thousand times better than the M8's Dot View flip cover.
Thread Cleaned of the nonsense
Have you guys heard of the expression "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."? Well, that applies here as well.
In future, if you're annoyed or angered by what someone else has written and feel the need to reply in kind, I suggest you take some time away from your computer or mobile device and rethink what you're about to post.
If you still feel tempted, still don't post it as it will more than likely turn out worse for you.
I'm not saying you have to agree or be happy with what others write but constructive criticism exists for a reason.

Well, i used it, and using it since 3 months now.... I had to remove the thick glass protector, yes, but i bought a 0.3 mm thickness Rhino shield, which is bit expensive, but a very good screen protector. The cover just sticks to it very well.
About the clarity, the text is properly aligned, as shown in the pics and youtube vidoes. No issues at all. If you don't select any theme for dot view, it will show the weather icon as well.
Holding the phone was a bit difficult for a day or 2, but now i have learnt the technique.... Clip the cover with 2 fingers, you get to hold the mobile easily. The rubber finish on top is good actually, and can be cleaned easily with some solutions to give it a brand new look.
The only downside of this cover is its price.
actualy, i thought the price was really good:
it came free with my phone
as a novelty its fun and everyone thats seen it so far has been really impressed.
practically, when its on the phone it does provide a nice grippy feel and its nice to flip it open with one hand for a quick check.
it will provide protection from tiny scratches on the back but also its really annoying when its on the desktop and i want to actually do something.
when its folded back on the desk and in landscape mode it wobbles like its on springs and is impossible to type on.
i always end up just removing the case. luckily its really to remove and hopefully will survive being removed many times.
it is good that i can remove it without unplugging the usb
having used it for a week now i would not buy one.
its a good idea that needs a mark 2 still with some means of flipping closed also folding back solid as a desk stand.
my 2c.

I got the dot view and also very not pleased.
First of all - it's not even a good protector. The sides are completely exposed and the aluminum scratches very easily, but obviously you know that if you're gonna opt for a slim case like this.
The real problem is that the flip cover doesn't really close all that well, it remains a bit 'lifted' (may have to do with my thick Zagg Glass screen protector, but it's still an annoyance) - which in turn means that to use the dot-view features I have to push down the flip cover and operate it with another finger. That by itself pretty much defeats the purpose of the feature.
The dot-case features are actually not bad (especially when coupled with the relevant Xposed mods), but the case itself is a disaster.
I would love to see a 3rd party case that actually offers good protection, a better flip cover - and the dot interface (shouldn't be that hard to achieve).
I agree with all your points. I have a thick glass screen protector installed and it makes it impossible to close it the flip itself. I found those Xposed Mods you're talking about but they seem to no longer work (or is it just me?). I am talking about this one specifically: http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.mohammadag.dotviewmodsforhtcmate
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mohammadag.dotviewmodsforhtcmateunlockkey&hl=en
Whenever I attempt to use it, it tells me that I have a modified HTC Dot View APK and I need to remove it and redownload the stock one from PlayStore, which I have done several times to no avail. I'd love to have those extra features if possible?

Strange, it works fine for me.
Try this one.
That said, it's useless with the case being this.... flimsy.
I tried installing it but it says app not installed.
