otter and otter2 are for the G1 and G2 respectively. G2 is 2012 I think? You have 2013, so I guess that's blaze? Not sure. [/process of elimination] I could be wrong, so wait for another answer to be sure.

Indeed, judging by the deafness of the section I'd say most people updated and have no root.

Yes, but. You can not let it update when you get it. You need to be on version 14.3.1.0 So you need to do a manual update. The download is not listed but still hosted here. Once your updated, root, install supersu, block updates then safestrap. Airplane mode to be safe and avoid an update.
I got it to push su app and other apk stuff but I can't get root at all.
Unable to chmod /data/local/tmp/exploit: no such...

System/bin/sh: /data/local/tmp/exploit: not found
Done Rooting!
That's all I get.
Should maybe point out that despite updating to windows media 11 my tablet also didn't show up as a device on my pc.

Make sure adb is working. Run the check for root option and post all the rooting output. A screen shot may be the best. I may know what the issue is.
Btw try v0.6b I made an update.
No net on lappy atm so I had to take a picture.
Like I said, it pushed supersu and hdxposed stuff fine.

Also. I fixed all drivers already, whole tablet mounts just fine.
Even dropped the manual update to sd so it would block the update that was waiting.

make sure you have the drivers installed, mtp and the kindle fire drivers,,plug it in open device manager and select the portable device(which is the mtp) and delete the driver (you may have to unplug and the replug the device) it will say android with a yellow triangle, hit update driver ,select browse my computer for driver software, then select ,let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer,, scroll down and find kindle fire from the list and select it and the adb driver will install,,,,then adb and any of the root utilities should work for you now,as long as you have not taken the new update .
hope that helps
Hi. Thanks for your work on this, but i got auto-updated so none of this works without root.
But i notice you link to the update files... could they be used to manually roll back to a rootable version of amazons firmware?

Some of the ROMs that work with gsm have a special version to flash or extra files. Minimoto should work, just use the gsm version in the OP.

gsm should work with aokp, need to use the gapps that are made for the roms android version.
there is a link to gapps list in my d3 link list.

and always verify md5 checksum for rom and gapps, before installing

If you have no need to use D3 (XT862 or XT861) in US where XT883 radio and some extra build.prop modifications are needed...
If you speak English or Polish and have nothing against old good Gingerbread (2.3.6) ...
...you can use cROM rom . Lots of hacks (stock XT861 + deodexed + zipalign + optipng + deblured + deblothed + 220DPIhack with full google store + USBCardFix + init.d + sysctl.d + adaware + seeder + automatic apns + roaming data patch + SIP in system [voip using buildin dialer] + DIALER mod + full screen contacts/dialer Images hack + gpu overclock + tethering + reverse tethering) + great stability + good memory management + better camera apps tolerance.
It's not available on xda because it supports only two languages (EN/PL). Installation and usage guides are in Polish but could be translated
Just ask google about "Droid 3 cROM". It has it's corner at forum.android.com.pl.
It is designed to be used/installed with the Safestrap but it can be used as a main DROID 3 ROM in place of stock rom (Safestrap backup/restore operations are needed to be performed)

I'm a new Kindle Fire HD 7 owner too (with the front camera) and I'm wondering if I could somehow do wireless mirroring on the HD 7. Would that be possible?
As per the title - am I able to root or even install a stock Android version onto this tablet? My patience is running out with the Fire OS interface, so anything to bring it closer to the stock Android experience would be greatly appreciated. Even a different launcher would make a huge difference.
