I don't know if it's just my phone or if all Droid 3's are like this, but no matter what flashlight app I use, there's a delay (about 2-4 seconds) before the LED turns on. Also, the strobe function in some apps does not work with this phone. After a certain point, the flashing fails to speed up. It's maximum speed seems to be a 1/2 second delay between flashes. A friend of mine owns an HTC Desire (running CM7) and it turns on instantly and strobes correctly (pretty darn fast!). Any way to fix?

I'm pretty sure it's a software limitation somewhere, I have the exact same problem with the LED notification light, and when I ran CM7 on my droid 3, it helped a little, but not too much..
I have the same thing. And some apps don't work at all
anybody know what app to use to light up the lower buttons when receiving a notification

There's an app called no led but as we've discovered, it prevents the fone from entering deep sleep and hammers the battery

It has been investigated here, but with limited success.
I use the linked one since it came out here without any problems. Works fine for me. It's a bit tricky to set up, but once done, it's great.
Does anyone know what determines whether the softkeys vibrate on touch? Turning volume down to silent doesn't change anything but I've noticed that sometimes there is no vibration and I can't figure out the reason.

There is an option to turn it off in the sound settings, vibrate on touch.

But there's been many times when I've not been near any settings for a while and I notice the soft keys not vibrating.

I don't know if it's a software or hardware problem.can you try a factory reset?or repair the phone via pc companion.

Firstly I'll monitor exactly what I'm doing when it next happens. I'm not rooted or unlocked yet so I guess it's nothing I've done (unless it's an app, if that's possible)

Right, so it's been almost a week. Unfortunately, I'm still having problems with no obvious explanation.
I soft-bricked my phone a few days ago so I've completely reset it. I was under the impression that it was only softkeys and haptic feedback that was being lost but today I'm sure a couple of time I've received messages without vibration (phone was in my lap and I can see the screen turn on but felt nothing).
My friend on his One X told me he often loses softkey feedback and haptics but that a message always brings it back. So until today I was putting it down to Jellybean (there seems to be a lot of S3 users with same issues too). Some S3 user reported that turning battery saving off has brought back feedback but I've not used stamina or anything like that, might there be something enabled by default I want to get rid of?
I kinda want to install CM10.1 to test on 4.2 but I'd need unlocked bootloader and I'm not sure how Amazon feel about that.
The motor seems to be ok... It sounds like a Bee or some paper trapped but from what I read that's normal because it's a thin phone. It's loud too.
When using the Service Tests area it seems to work without fail, but I need to test that after it turns off.
I'm still having this issue and I'm almost certain it must be a hardware fault.
Am I right in thinking that if I run a vibration test in the service menu then no system or app settings should prevent it vibrating?
Sometimes it fails to vibrate even in that test.

I realized that my Xperia Z's vibrator will stop working after an "intense" work or overheated...
for example, i turned on the "vibrate on touch" option, and then keep pressing any key (let's say the Home virtual key), i can feel that the vibration strength will get weaker and weaker, and finally stops.
at this point, the vibrator wouldn't work, no matter how. Neither in Service Test, switching on/off phone (i believe these cannot be altered by the user)
Then if I leave the phone there for a while, the vibrator will start working again, and if i repeat the experiment (pressing Home key), the number of times the phone would vibrate is fewer ( e.g. the phone vibrated ~30 times before stopped working at the first test, then it stopped working after ~10 times at the second test).
Interestingly, the vibrator would work again immediately if i shaked the phone (even straight after it was "dead"), but the length of time it came back "alive" is even shorter.
And it seems that the vibrator functionality also depends on how i hold the phone... by making it flat (screen facing sky), the vibrator seems to work better and longer.
I also found that the vibrator would stop working when the phone is being charged, but i am not so sure if it was caused by charging or the heating up of the phone as it went quite warm when charing. When I unplugged the phone, the vibrator didn't came back alive immediately, so I washed it with cold water (hey it's water proof !) and the vibrator worked again!
I have tried Factory Reset, and re-installing the firmware via Update Service but the phenomenon still exists.
It's kind of weird, and i hope some technitians could give reasons of this behavior. To me it's like the vibrator needs some time to settle down, the damping isn't efficient. Or, the current is too high so it cuts the flow to the vibrator for safety reason?
maybe some xda developers could check the codes and see how the vibrator behaves?
I hope there isn't a faulty of my phone, I really don't want to send it to the service centre for a body-check....
Thanks

I'm facing the same problem, the vibration works occasionally , and there is a lot of people with this problem, I will wait for now waiting a fix, some people here confirm that the problem disappeared after 2 days of use. How old is yours?

new update:
i did some more tests. and i found that:
1. vibrator stopped working during charging once the phone's temperature rised above 30 degrees (actually vibration kept working for a few times before completely dead). and even it then cooled down to below 30 degrees, the vibrator was still dead (still in charging, cable plugged in). and vibrator came back alive immediately when unplugged (at this moment the temperature was 28 degrees). but if the temperature went above 30, unplugging wouldn't bring the vibrator back to life, and i had to leave the phone there for a while.
2. at any temperature, continuously pressing the soft keys (with haptic feedback switch on) VERY quickly (i mean like pressing it 10 times in one second that quickly), or just go to Service Test -> vibrator and set the vibration time to something LONG (e.g. 90000), the vibrator worked for a while then died. then if i gave it a break (~10 mins) of gave it a shake, vibrator came back alive again.
3. no matter what caused the death of vibrator (point 1 or 2), if I could cool the phone down very rapidly, i.e. I put it in cold water, the vibrator would come back alive.
4. the cooler the phone is, the stronger and longer working time of the vibration (as in point 2)
so i guess it's the temperature that causing this problem, seems like a hardware issue (because my X10 doesn't behave like this), probably the circuit isn't connected properly.

mine is nearly a month old. i didn't notice this problem until a few days ago. so i cannot comfirm if it was already like this when i bought it.
i think we should gather all the complaining posts of this issue and send it to Sony (at least before we send it to service centre for repairing).
push up
i have this issue on italain xperia z... very annoing problem...
Any new update? Any fix? I don't want to send my phone for 2 weeks to fix this

any news ??
same problem for me :crying:
I have the exact same problem.
Can someone with a custom ROM confirm this? I'm wondering if it's hardware or software related.
@ hamud.q
After one month of waiting, finally the phone will be replaced with a new one! Apparently here in Bulgaria in the service dоn't try to fix the phone (if it's a hardware problem) and directly replace it with a new phone...
Does anyone have a solution for this problem?
Hey guys, I did so much of research about this issue before creating this new thread, but did not find anything helpful.
when I turn my phone's radio on and place a call it immediately turns hot within a minute and touches up to 60 degrees. And when I turn the radio off(airplane mode) it will be fine but stays warm when I use wifi or play any game. I don't have a service center for htc In my area and I'm helpless. is it a battery issue or board?
Thanks.
Have you tweaked your phone at all? Overclocking? Firmware/radio? You can test your battery to see if it's functioning properly.
Yeah I flashed viper one and I did not face any problem and no I did not over clock. I downloaded some battery app and it's showing the battery health good.
