Where does "Motorola Boot Services" store the boot animation zip? - Moto X Q&A

Does anyone know? I checked in ~/system/media/ but the zip in that location is the original boot animation, so any boot animation that the boot services app downloads must be stored elsewhere right? I've been trying to find the new april fools boot animation zip.

/data/local/moodle ?

[Q] What's up with boot animation

This subforum doesn't really look like the right place for this question, but I'm trying to follow forum rules.
I'm rooted.
Using esfile explorer, I downloaded the awesome bootanimation.zip file located here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334927
I renamed the old boot animation zip file (as not that) and pasted the new one into system/media as instructed by video.
I check the permissions of both files and they are the same.
Can't get the new animation to run. Just blank. I reversed the process and the old one ran fine again.
I have two questions.
1. Why would this not work for me?
2. With one big .zip file, how do I know which animation I'm getting? How do I control which boot animation runs?
You should try flashing the boot image with fastboot.
fastboot flash boot boot.img

No no....the bootanimation is not the boot.img, absolutely do not try flashing a bootanimation.zip as a boot.img
Woops my mistake! I just recently flashed a boot image to get rid of that nasty bootloader unlock screen. Got confused between the two. My apologies

Thank you man,
Good morning friends!
Could anyone help me?
I have a problem at startup in Moto X Play.
After unlocking the bootloader my device does not boot more straight to the android system.
The startup always falls on the screen Fastboot start.
I've given recovery factory ... reinstalled the original system via fastboot ... I tried everything, including using RSD Lite to no avail.
I do not know what else to do. Help me, because although the appliance is working, it's uncomfortable every time I restart it he always fall into the Fastboot start screen
.
Sorry my English.

Did you test the online update? I still doubt it works. No one answered my question. But as long as I don't have the possibility to restore original state, I don't dare to install it.

I am in a custom rom (Bliss 6), not sure about update. Since flashing that logo.bin, on reboot just shows Android with white background, no more warning texts and also Moto bootamination.
All three logos working good after flash it, but bootanimation did not starting. I'm copy bootanimation.zip in /system/media/ and set permissions, but no success.

[MOD] Change Splash Screen and Bootanimation like Nexus 6P with new animations

Hi Guys, I'll show you how to change the BootLogo/Splash Screen with new Google logo and how to change bootanimation with the 6p one.
First you must be rooted and must have a custom recovery.
Download the logo from here(thanks to Droidphilev!):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3512671&d=1445324260
And the bootanimation:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7V8PjYQw8kVR3dObXR2c0RSSkU
1. Flash the bootlogo in the recovery(if your bootloader is unlocked don't worry if you don't see the icon at the bottom)
2. It's highly recommended to use total commander for the next step: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ghisler.android.TotalCommander
3. Grab the new bootanimation.zip file and paste it in system/media (delete the old bootanimation.zip file) and set the permissions to 644.
4. Reboot and enjoy!
###############EDIT###############
Just flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3733883&d=1461883901 thanks to @misterpyrrhuloxia

Why are you posting the bootloader logo here? You didn't even took the time to rename my file but didn't leave credits? Not so nice!
I made this on the 20th of october last year. I checked your file and it's indeed the one that i made.

It worked!! Thank you!! Will this continue to work on later bootloader updates? Because whenever a new version of the shamu bootloader is released, I flash that. I just want to make sure that this will still be compatible with every bootloader version moving forward.

You are welcome I don't know, but it should work. Let me know
So I made a flashable zip combining both of these. I took the flashable zip from the OP, opened it up, and added the bootanimation.zip to it. It flashes the boot splash then backs up your current /system/media/bootanimation.zip to /sdcard/bootanimation.zip. So now you have one file to flash for both the boot splash image and the new boot animation.
Hit thanks!

works good. Just curious how do you return to the old splash logo ? Flash factory images via fastboot ?

how to remove logo.bin file

Is there a way I can remove the logo that it shows when booting up and just play my custom animation right from the start? I'm rooted with TWRP

Remove it, no. That's what shows when the bootloader is doing its thing before the system boot animation takes over.
Replace it, yes. Lots of custom one posted in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/themes-apps/automated-boot-logos-moto-x-using-t3276236
If you wanted, it sounds like you could use that "Motorola Boot Logo Maker" mentioned in the OP there to make your own custom logo.bin to transition to your animation more seamlessly. I've never tried it myself.

Follow the directions in the thread. I have not read it very carefully.
In general, what works is, if you end up with a logo.bin then
Code:
fastboot flash logo /path/to/logo.bin
If you extract a zip and it has a logo.bin and a meta-inf folder in it, then it's made to be flashable. Install it with twrp.
I've never used flashify to install a moto logo. Not saying it can't, but I've never done it.

Fix for (N/A) on Boot Logo Screen ?

UPDATE: Magendanz posted an awesome version of what I tried to do. Their version doesn't have bad artifacts and noticable pixels, so I'd heavily recommend using their version! It is titled (PixelBootAnimation.E4.zip) in the attachments.
I used the MotoBootLogoMaker to create this TWRP flashable ZIP. This was made for my personal phone, but I wanted to share with others in case they had the same problem. Hope this helps someone!

Is this the OEM splash from stock? If i have downloaded the stock zip with the recovery and logo.bin and f;ash that logo.bin will i have the same result?
@MrIndieJ
Sorry, the ZIP I have provided is of the splash I have created, not the stock splash.
Here's an update that I pieced together from several sources for the Moto E4/E4+ that installs both the Pixel splash and boot animation. Because of the white background, it masks the N/A nicely.
Might want to try this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vegazs.logochanger&hl=en
Looks like it has the stock Moto logo splash.
EDIT: I tried this and was unsuccessful.
I get Black background with white text saying "orange state, your device unlocked......."
No logo image while booting. direct bootanimation
Can anyone provide (or explain how) I can extract the logo and boot animation from the stock rom and apply it?

I think you'd have to backup your current rom, install the stock rom, backup the boot animation and splash, then restore your original rom and flash the stock boot animation and splash

I extracted the bootanimation and bootanimation.zip files and applied them to my Lineage rom (and yes, I also fixed the rights on the files) but it didn't work. The stock rom uses MP4 files for animation. I assume Lineage should support that, but I'm not 100% sure.

Yes, I use the Google boot screen. I extracted the logo.bin and flashed that manually using the appropriate fastboot command so I can keep the original boot animation of Lineage. I'm looking for a more stock experience. I suspect there's something simple I'm missing or Lineage simply can't handle MP4 boot animations.
