Bricked Phone - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone was acting very strange. I obtained s-off and decided I wanted to sim unlock. In the middle of the RUU the phone fails. I try to RUU again, phone goes black. Now I don't see any flashing buttons when I hold the power and volume down. Computer recognizes that I plugged the phone in but cannot recognize it after it attempts to read it. I'm pretty sure this is it.
*edit
I've had it plugged in for some hours, and the LED did not turn on. Paper weight.

If the phone failed in the middle of the RUU procedure, well, i think its a hard brick. Im not 100% sure, but i think a motherboard replacement may be the only solution.

Yep u agree. You're pretty screwed. If it's still under warranty you might be safe because it won't boot up. They would just replace motherboard

1- can you get to bootloader?
Force reboot: press and hold POWER + VOLDOWN (under a bright light, not kidding!!), after about 5 seconds or so buttons should start blinking, and after 30 seconds or so, the phone will reboot, let go of POWER, but keep holding VOLDOWN to get back to bootloader.
(you may need to try 2 or 3 times to get it right)
2- does the phone show up in Device Manager? Check what it says, and hope it's not QHSUSB_DLOAD

Bad news, went under device manager and it says "QHSUSB_DLOAD". Light trick didn't do anything, brick.

yeah sorry mate, QHSUSB_DLOAD = hard brick, needs a motherboard replacement. :crying:

Could you send it to HTC for guarantee? Or won't they accept it?

Now I'm worried...
I just bought an HTC One that will be here today. Was going to immediately flash it. Might have to use it for awhile just to say I got some use out of it before I start heavy mods.
Good luck, hope it comes back.

there are a few ways to hard-brick your phone with S-Off, but in the OP's defense when the phone goes to QHSUSB_DLOAD, it's not because he flashed anything in particular, it would be just coincidence... it's definitely a hardware defect, caused by unknown reasons.
one guy was completely stock, and downloading an OTA (only downloading not installing), when the phone shut-off and went to QHSUSB_DLOAD hard brick.

Thanks, that does make me feel better. I'm coming from Samsung phones and going to have to learn new methods and procedures. The last thing I want to do is brick it before I even get to use it.

People in Pakistan doing JTAG for Rupees 2,000/- (20 USD approx) but you wont be able to use sim/gsm again after JTAG... (can be used as an ipod though )
try returning the phone (if its in Warranty) if the warranty can not be claimed then go for JTAG!
p.s. my set is soft bricked (some sort of security triggered in it and i am unable to write recovery or relock bootloaders) waiting for a solution, if my set would be hard bricked i'd go for JTAG!

Bricked phone, can I get it replaced?

I was reflashing my phone, while in download mode, the power went off, and now my phone won't turn on or anything. I think my phone is bricked.
I bought the phone a week and a half ago. Will AT&T accept my phone for a replacement if I say it just stopped working? I have the $4.99/month Wireless Insurance, but won't they deny it when they find out I've been messing with it? What should I do?
Thanks!
Before you take it back, make sure it isn't bricked. Remove the battery, replace it, hold both the volume buttons, plug in the usb and see if it takes you to download mode

It's bricked. Replaced battery, won't turn on no matter what I do to it.
There's a small scratch on the screen, and the micro USB charging port cover is messed up a bit from something sticky getting in there.
What should I tell AT&T? What's the likeliness of them declining my claim? Can they tell that it's been tampered with even though it's bricked?
Wrong forum. But I would use my insurance instead and tell them it just quit on me...
Try plugging into the computer, remove the battery reinsert the battery. Then hold volume up and power till red text comes on the screen from there switch to holding both volume buttons down and power then when the red text flashes to black release power and continue to hold both volume buttons. That should get you back to the downloading digger bot.

They won't give you a hard time on the software side - to them off is off - they can't tell if you bricked it - they will send it somewhere and have it flashed.
BUT - if there is something sticky in the USB port then they do have grounds to deny your claim - for all they know you poured juice in there.
Good luck.
Get it into download mode and flash it again with odin. Likely not bricked.

Nothing does, I tried every combo, SIM card in and out, replacing battery, USB plugged in and out, download mode, regular power button, recovery mode, what the guy suggested above; everything.
Not a single thing shows up on the screen.
You glanced over my question.
The version of firmware you were using before the flash and during the failed flash can be very pertinent to the key combination you need to get into download mode =P

I had the stock firmware, installed the JM5 firmware, reinstalled the JM5 firmware, while doing so, they power went off.
Just pressing Volume Down + Power got me into Download Mode everytime.
Edit: And yes, the battery was charged, it was at about 67% when I was flashing the firmware. How can I charge the battery for the heck of it when the phone is dead? Normally when you plug in the USB cable there's a charging animation on the screen. Nothing comes up at all, can a dead phone charge a battery, or does the software need to send the power to the battery?
Honestly I've had flashes fail at varying points during the flash and I've gotten the black screen before, ALWAYS I've been able to get it to work by following these steps:
Pull out everything, SIM, SD, Battery, USB, EVERYTHING
Close Odin (If it's open)
Reopen Odin
Insert battery, hold vol down (If this doesn't work hold both volume buttons NO POWER)
While holding the button(s) plug in USB
Don't touch the power at any point, if this fails and you want to try the other key combo, start the process over completely.

This man speaks the truth, listen to him.
If your insurance covers damage then destroy the phone and call att and tell them its been destroyed.
if not then it is possible that the power outage could have caused your phone to zap.
Flashing or not if you spilled stuff into the usb port your screwed. Week and a half and you scratched the screen and did that? I have tried to scratch mine with no succes. I say ditch that phone and get a GO phone. And have a mod delete this pointless thread already!!!!

Some serius help needed. Bootloop, stuck, bootloader not working etc..

Hi. To start with I bought a phone from a friend which I knew was faulty but decided to take my chances and try to fix it. He claims he did nothing to the phone but don't know for sure. Phone is in constant bootloop, Goes until splash screen and reboots. Worst yet to come - even bootloader menu restarts on constant basis when i try to get into it. Meaning it goes into bootloader but restarts in few seconds before i can get to factory reset. Computer is not picking up this device but i also don't have any drivers installed but don't even know how to install them with a phone in this state. Is there anything i can do about it? Been with Samsung for the past few years and here is everything completely different so don't know much about adb but am a quick learner and can follow any steps! I can provide picture of bootloader if it would be any helpful.

Send a picture of the bootloader while I find the drivers you need
Seems like battery is completely dead as it only reboots when there is power supply connected, but then it won't turn off (any charging light don't come on, not sure if it should though). Just now i've seen a vodafone logo for a very short second when I connected to pc from charger. But phone rebooted again just after.

After connecting my one to computer for past 3 hours its started more frequently boot and showing Vodafone menu but still restarts shortly after. Vodafone logo shows on and lights on soft buttons starts flashing like 3 times and than it keeps rebooting. Does it mean anything?

That almost sounds like your POWER button is stuck!! Are you able to completely power off, and it stays off.
I think i know what it is. Power button stuck and keeps restarting device. Although i can feel pressing it, this is what it looks like.

Didn't see your comment but this is exactly how it looks to me. I can't switch off phone and in bootloader it acts like i was pressing power button. Although it operates normally meaning that it can be pressed down. Arranged warranty repair with HTC and they are collecting phone tomorrow.

[Q] HTC ONE no power or led

Hi, I posted a question on this already but the situation has changed. So firstly what happened was i rooted, flashed cwm recovery and was running the sinless rom GPE. this was fine for about a month and then i decided to s-off...the s-off process went smoothly and the phone powered back on like normal. Then i flashed another rom and there was a cyan colour filling the screen at boot so I decided to restore from a previous backup. However this backup was done before the s-off process. After restoring successfully I clicked "reboot phone" on CWM and since that the phone never turned on or show any signs of life.
At first it would connect to the computer but show up in device manager as QHSUSB_DLOAD but now when I connect the phone to the computer it jus disconnects and reconnects over and over.
Things I tried:
Holding power button for over 2 minutes (with and without bright light on the sensor).
Left charging for over 4 days.
Holding Power+VOL down for over 2 minutes.
Holding Power+VOL up for over 2 minutes.
Holding all three hardware buttons for over 2 minutes.
In the process of trying all these things not once did the led even blink or did the phone even show any signs of life. Can anyone help with this situation?

So, probably, you have to send it to htc for warranty and they have to change your motherboard...

Theoretically no, because the mainboard won't work...
I think is the possibility that your phone is bricked is hard

I also had the case of my HTC One, my battery was still at 55% while I was watching a video until it froze, so I decided to shut it down to reboot but when I tried to switch it on, it already does not show the Red LED, did any possible combinations of power on and pressing down the volume also under bright light, but there's no luck on it. However, I tried plugging my phone to the PC and there are still the sounds that it has connected. I checked it on the devmgmt.msc but it says that:
Base System Device, QHSUSB_DLOAD and Unidentified Device - All appeared to say "No Driver Found"
It has been a day since I left my phone wall charged, plugged it in the PC with the USB detected sounds but still can't turn it on. Is there any other way to turn on the phone again? Since I badly wanted to recover all my photos and other stuff from the phone Any possible help/tip/advice would be much appreciated! Would there be any way before sending it to the HTC Company? Thank you in advance!
There is a possible fix for that around here somewhere, a Guide to fix hard bricks, typical I cant find it now.
EDIT: Here it is, only supports M7_UL devices though, never had to use it so I cant answer any further queries on it, if you have any problems trying it you'll have to post in that thread.

[Q] Unlocking bootloader hard bricked my moto x

So....
I think I hard bricked my 1st gen moto x. I was in the process of unlocking the bootloader using motorolla's guide and everything was going fine. i had the "unlock..." (or "unlocked..." i forget what it actually said) showing on my screen and just out of habit, i hit the power button as i put the phone down.
now, nothing.
nothing at all. no recovery mode, no nothing. does anyone have any suggestions? i've tried holding down power and vol down for 5 min. i've tried pushing random buttons. i've tried praying to the motorolla gods.
Is your phone the developer edition?

This sounds like a hardware failure, maybe a battery failure or a charging port failure. Like someone else suggested, try a different charger and see what happens.

Depends on the state - in many states in the US, a manufacturer cannot void a warranty if the product failure/defect has nothing to do with why the manufacturer wants to void the warranty.
Since unlocking a bootloader has nothing to do with a battery failure, in those states where the law is as I stated above, Motorola cannot void the warranty. Now the average Joe may not know this and may not know how to sue Motorola if they won't honor the warranty, but if you do know this and do know how to file a small claims case against Motorola, then you would win in those states.
So it is not across the board true that you void your warranty if you unlock your bootloader and don't have a dev ed. It depends on the state and what is wrong with your phone.

Odin can reconize the phone when powered off, that's why it worked.

Keep it plugged in, if it is totally drained, it will not turn on for a while until it gets charged to a safe level. Then after awhile on the charger, try to get into bootloader mode.

Yes another bricked VS980, anyone help

Ok long story
I bricked my device (totally dead, no power no dl mode no led not nothing at all), i know what i did wrong, then after plenty of research I ended up tripping the area in motherboard to bring phone back to life and I was successful. I brought it back to life started over completely with a stock device like new, I rooted and loaded up some roms and all was ok. Then....
Someone I knew needed a new device but did not want it rooted as they knew nothing about root and wanted a stock device, so I TOT all the way back to stock and told them the device would run through all the updates up to Lollipop and it did, BUT the OTA to lollipop bricked the device
Yes with the phone stock and doing regular updates it bricked, they brought it to me and I was able to trip the capacitors again and was able to get into bulk mode and AGAIN was able to bring device back to life, so I sat there and one by one let the updates come in on a COMPLETELY STOCK DEVICE and ONCE AGAIN the freakin OTA bricked the device, so.....
I have not been able to get it back, I went through the same steps to get device back, and I have now done everything possible (I think) and cannot get it back.
I have tripped the IC capacitors and gotten the 9006 and 9008, when I get the 9006 and all the partitions pop up, I use the SRK tool and it works, but then when I go to reboot I used to get the LG logo bootloop and was able to turn off and go into download mode, but now download mode freezes on the little icon and download mode never opens up, so in turn I cant TOT or KDZ back to stock. I have tried the boarddiag, I have even tried the Ubuntu fix and nothing, my symptoms so far:
download mode frozen with the little icon but download mode does not show up, I sometimes get just a vibration on/off that never ends, I have also gotten a red LED & LG logo boot loop. I have literally lost 2 days trying to figure this out. My question is, is there anyone that will do this for me. I will pay to ship and return, Please anyone.

Then....

Yes I tried that and Ubuntu would never see my device. Upon entering the first command I would not get a return command identifying my device.
Can you do one more thing? Disassemble your battery, reassemble it , plug it in wall charger , charge it for some time and go to download mode, see if its working?

charged up.
This is where I am right now.....If I turn on the device i get LG screen then it turns off and LED flashes red one time, then it loops doing the same thing.
If I hold vol up and plug in it will show download mode about to start but then powers off and red LED and it boot loops again.
I noticed if I power off and hold power button, then it will vibrate on and off while im holding power button, weird.
If I open up device to trip ic in motherboard, the device does the weird vibration while plugged in as i am attempting to trip mb.
I can trip it though and get 9006 or 9008 with all the partitions popping up and i have used every single program on here to unbrick but after all those programs all i get is the damn LG screen and red LED boot loop. I am totally giving up.
.....
Then i have no idea what could fix your phone. I recommend you bring it to a repair shop.
