Hello,
I would like to request for a stock build of KitKat. I myself have no knowledge of porting, building, or coding Roms. As many of you know, the Nook HD+ is not the speediest device out there. I think AOSP would help speed it up a little bit, as well as add more space for apps, media, etc.
So, can we get some stock Android love? Currently using CM11 Nightlies. ?

This does not belong in the Development Section, read the Forum Rules on posting.... moved here, thanks.

There are so many NC's topics that got me really confused, I only have a question that I hope someone can give me some advice. I just got me a NC with with firmware 1.2 and I want to be able to multiboot with GingerBread, HoneyComb as well as the NC stock OS, could someone tell me the steps that I need? Thanks in advance.
I would recommend avoiding the HoneyComb builds as they are buggy. We do not have the source code for HC so it will alwys be buggy. As for Gingerbread, I would recommend CM7.1.0, the latest stable build. As many folks here hve detailed the best route to dual boot cm7 and stock, I will refer you to the excellent threads on that topic. I do not run dual boot as cm7 serves all my needs. I have not had the stock firmware on my nook since the second day I had it. Good luck with your new nook and don't forget to have fun.

Hello everybody...
I have a Galaxy Tab P1000 working on 2.3.3 and CWM installed.
I want to go on ICS but, honnestly, I really don't know what to do
Cyanogen, AOKP, Overcome... :silly::silly:
So, what's the differences ? I'm reading, reading, reading... and it seems to be hard to understand what bring each mod instead of installing one (your tutorials are really easy to understand for a newbie like me).
I don't want a mod where something doesn't work. My tablet is working fine actually and I don't want to screw something so... what's the best ICS mod for a P1000 ?
Thanks for your advices (and sorry for my poor english )
Two major problems.
1) best rom thread isn't allowed in xda. Try them out and find out yourself.
2) there is a q&a subforum for questions (but not for best rom question)

I tend to disagree with your response priyana. He is not asking for the "best" rom, just the differences. My suggestion is to read the development thread for each and try them out for yourself.
The best way to work out the one for you is to dive in and try them out.

Well, if your are asking for stable roms, then cm 9.1 and aokp milestone 6 are the options. dont ask for best roms.
I agree with stimpz0r that this isn't a best ROM thread, the OP is just asking the differences between the types of ROM. As long as it stays that way and doesn't become a best ROM thread then it's fine to stay. Have moved to Q&A where it belongs.
In answer to the question, as tiresome as reading and testing can be, don't give up with the reading as it's the most important part of being on XDA as so much information is available. The 1st few posts of the development threads tend to give you an overview of what's included but the main ROM types you get will be:
Custom stock - based off official ROM's with tweaks
AOSP (Android Open Source Project) - based off Google source code
CM - which is a modified AOSP experience with customisations, bug fixes etc
AOKP (Android Open Kang Project) - similar to CM as uses lots of aspects of CM but offers far more customisation options for the user
Ahem... 1st post, 1st fault
I wasn't asking for the "best rom over all the others", but more for a little help to know what kind of rom I have to look for, really sorry for the mistake.
Usually, I try to learn by myself reading on forums or on the net, but the hard part with Android (at least for me) is that a rom can work with a device but not with another who has the same Android version :silly::silly::silly:. It's not like a video game console, a PS3 is a PS3, a Wii is a Wii, no major change between the 1st and the last serie.
Thanks for your answers. I'll keep reading , but this time I'll look toward CM and Aokp first .
We all learn by reading and you'll see in my post I was siding with you
The best part of this forum is how much you learn off other members and the like-minded people you get to talk to. We were all new once so once you pick up things slowly but surely you'll also be able to share what you've learned back with so many new users always joining :good:
I see CM11, PAC-man, carbon go Unified_MSM8960,and the discussion seems slow down there,
Are there move to some certain thread that is not in Atrix hd forum? where could I find them?
Thank you

I would like to know as well, having to go to a completely different phone's page to ask questions about your phone doesn't feel right.
Using the vanilla CM11 from July here...
I believe that many unified builds require a KK bootloader that the Atrix HD doesn't have. The lack of a KK bootloader limits the developers of those ROMs.
Well, the short answer is that "it's complicated".
There is no single place for Unified builds, and there are several ROMS so it is really up to the developer to post where they see fit. As one example, let's take the most popular and original unified ROM: CyanogenMod CM11. We have our own thread here for Atrix HD related issues, but the thread for the Razr HD is much more active. I've recently started monitoring the Razr HD threads because of that.
The good news is that, in the eyes of CM, we are the same device (since we are all grouped into the same msm8960 pool). The bad news is that since they unified, some of those devices got a new KK bootloader while the rest of us are stuck on the JB bootloader. So if you want CM11, you need to only use the one labeled as Epinter's build, because he is compiling it specifically for those still on a JB bootloader. Honestly, ANY rom based on a unified CM11 base that hasn't been specifically modified to handle this issue will NOT work on our phone (or any msm8960 device still on the JB bootloader).
So I think development on a lot of those ROMs that were based on unified builds has stalled until we're on the official KitKat from Motorola. We're sort of in limbo, unless you use Epinter's build. I'm still using the last Carbon Rom, but I'll probably be switching to CM shortly.
I havent used my touchpad in quite sometime. And forgot the methods on using CM software.. Do I need to reformat it all over again or can I just upgrade to the latest version? And whats the latest and greatest for software for this tablet. Thanks in advance
I think you might find things have changed quite a bit from your previous experience. I would suggest you read about the new ROMs on the developer section of the Touchpad forum. Even how to do the initial install has changed..tptoolbox seems to be the preferred choice and makes things so much easier. I am running kitkat 4.4.4 and it is fantastic. Used jcsullins ROM and recovery.

I found the info for the toolbox etc just alittle confused on where to start. Where can I find out how to get a fresh start and erase my CM 9 etc I have now?
I would suggest deciding on what ROM you want to use, read about TPTOOLBOX and then think about the install.
This is the guide for toolbox that helped me:http://liliputing.com/2014/06/use-touchpad-toolbox-install-android-erase-webos-hp-touchpad.html
Also, I am using cm-11-20140625-SNAPSHOT-jcsullins-tenderloin.zip for the ROM
update-TWRP-jcs-dm-tenderloin-20140512.zip for recovery
pa_gapps-modular-mini-4.4.4-20140708-signed.zip for gapps. Had to rename the 4.4.4. to 4.4.2 for the toolbox install. That is documented in the developers section.
Everything is running very smoothly without any problems. I am extremely pleased it works so well and will update 3 more TP's to kitkat 4.4.4.
I dug out my Nook HD recently, and wanted to try flashing it. What is the most recommended, stable ROM that is still relevant in 2021? I was taking a look at the Android development forum and couldn't figure out which one to use. This one is the most recent release, but it seems to have some bugs...

If you value the video-out capability, you'll have to settle for Marshmallow. The only bug is the common shutdown one. I have that ROM archived. Otherwise, you're on your own
