Completely wipe phone and go back to stock rom - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I have tried googling my question and I find different solutions for this, but I am a sceptic and I only trust the xda forum when it comes to this
Where can I get the I9295 stock rom for my phone and what is the best way to completely wipe the phone and install the rom?

If you have a custom recovery you can install the stock rom from there. The factory reset is also available. After an OTA update the custom recovery will be gone. The problem is the triangle. I don't know if there is one and how to reset it.
The only problem is getting the stock rom. I am also interested in that as I want to update the baseband through the OTA update.
Best wishes, Christian

[Q] SGS screen error after update to Gingerbread

After flashing gingerbread 2.3.3XWJVH deodexed to my SGS using this guide
*Cannot be shown, first post :/*
My problem is that at boot and right before the home screen displays the device shows a distorted assortment of colours, different everytime.
Anybody have any ideas of the cause / solution?
Cheers guys.
You need updated bootloader for Gingerbread firmware.
Intratech is correct, download a gingerbread rom with bootloaders included, flash through odin with repartition and update bootloader both ticked

Can this have to be done via the same method I used before? (ODIN)
Or can it be done as an addition step? I have a sneaking suspicion it's the prior.
Thanks for the quick reply by the way.
EDIT: Answered before I even posted, you guys are so quick you are in the future.
One more thing, could you link me to the files needed to ensure the gingerbread update is pre rooted, as this one was?
Also, I just read that in it's current state my phone can't go into recovery mode, does that mean that if this next update goes wrong, I'm screwed?
No need to repartition, just get rom with bootloader. Same as before with Odin, the firmware will include the bootloader.

Thank you for your help, all sorted now. All I need to find now is a way to root this and install CWM to it.
I know it's rather unrelated and I shall seek out/ make a new threat if I can't get an answer here, but would you recommend the installation of the ported TouchWiz 4 update.zip at the moment?

Go to the dev section and look for the CF-Root thread, it will root and install CWM to your phone. TW4 is a major improvement on TW3 that comes with SGS. I have a SGS II now as well and I love TW4 so if you can install it on your ROM then go for it. Make sure you do a nandroid backup in CWM recovery in case anything gets messed up so you can just restore before installing it though.
Try flashing Cieto's JVHbase Rom from my signature. It's very stable and very fast. Here'sthe link for front facing camera fix. Try his rom. You will be blown away by how good it is. He is very quick to give support as well. The difference with battery life and speed compared to stock JVH from samfirmware.com is huge.

I'm currently looking at Tweaky V4.1. It looks to be what I'm after I'm just not sure if it is compatible with my current set up.
I will check out Cieto's Rom too.

[Q] Stuck with a farmated phone

Hi Guys
Maybe the answer on this question is easy for you guys, but I have searched a lot and can't find the answer.
My problem.
I have had a custom rom on my phone for a half year.
Then I wanted to install a stock rom, so I rebooted to recovery and formatted it all.
Then did I find a custom rom, and tried to download it with Odin.
First stock rom stopped in the middel of the installation.
Then I tried another version, it did not help either. I did finish the installation, but screwed up my bootloader.
Is have installed a new bootloader again and think it works again.
Then did I read in a thread that it's important that I now which rom version my phone is running. (JPY JPO ect.)
How can I find out which stock rom belongs to my phone, when I only have download mode and recovery.
I also tried to install Darkys rom, but realised i didn't knew how to push the file into the sd card in download mode.
Can anyone help me with this problem.
I really don't now how to get my phone up and running again.
Thanks in advance

You don't need to place the Darky's ROM on the SD card. Just put your phone into download mode and use Odin as instructed in Darky's thread. You install the ROM from your PC.
And in future, you may want to do a little more research into how to use odin to handle problems before you flash something new...it will save you a lot of stress.

Next time I will be more carefull.
I just tried to install another stock rom, and this did also screw up me bootloader.
It's the same error as in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=984140
Do anyone know why ?
I'm sorry, but I can't find the thread which are describing how to install with odin.
Only how to install with Darky app, which have to be installed on a working rom.

So then follow the fix outlined in that thread.

I did and it's okay.
But I still don't know how to install a stock rom on my phone, without getting a error.
Now i have tried several stock roms and after installing I still get the same error as on the link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=984140
Why is this not working for me?
I'm going for getting a stock rom on the phone. Darkys was only an emergency, if I can't make the stock installation to work.
Did rom files downloaded properly? And theres issue that flasging often fails while using odin 1.7 and 64bit windows 7 (and maybe other 64x).

Great... Now the reason you had the issue like the thread (which was likely answered in the thread) was that a file, likely dbdata.rfs was not on the package and you repartitioned it. So that partition never gets created and then can't be mounted.

[Q] How to restore the factory default ROM on G-Note?

Hi,
I installed RocketRom v.23 and so far it is great, aside from some minor issues.
However, as I need to return the phone back for some other reason, is there any way to find what was the original ROM on my phone before I install this custom ROM on top of it? Maybe from the IMEI or sth???
PLEASE ADVICE cause I know they will not accept it without the original ROM.
It is not possible to know
But you can find ROm for your country from here N flash it with PC Odin.
I think you can check the date of your purchase invoice of the device and find a rom released before that date and flash it. You can find the date adjacent to rom details in Dr. Ketans thread.

this is the answer. you dont need the exact rom on your phone before. you need to find any rom that you could have upgraded your phone over kies.

Questions regarding rooting i9305

Hi all,
i am planning to root my i9305 after reading the awesome tutorials by ausdim. as i have never done rooting before, i hope seniors in this forum can answer some of my questions which i couldnt find the answer to after reading multiple sources.
1. Will rooting wipe off my data? (i.e settings, pictures, apps, painstakingly customized home screen layout)
2. If yes, is there any way i can backup and restore all the settings, including my customized home screen layout? (i read somewhere that my backup pro allows people to do that. correct me if i am wrong)
3. What exactly is CWM recovery? how is it related to rooting? Do i need to root my phone in order to install the CWM recovery? or do i use CWM recovery to root my phone?
4. Am i correct to say that CWM recovery is needed to flash custom ROMs? or is it the ROM Manager thing?
5. Let's say i wish to restore my i9305 to the original state i got it in, right out the box, with stock touchwiz in it. How can i go about doing it? is it a very complicated process?
Did you consider to try the search function?
If you used the search function or Google your questions would all have been answered
1.No rooting doesn't wipe anything.
2.CWM Is a custom recovery that gives you many more options over the stock recovery.
3.Yes custom ROMs need to be flashed in a custom recovery.
4. To put your phone back to factory state, download firmware from sammobile and flash this via Odin.

Hi buddy.
First of all, I don't entirely understand what are you trying to do. What to you mean with "firmware update"? Do you want to flash a new ROM?

Got it. Check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751263
You may find all the information you need there. Even if you can't, don't worry, is just a minor update, it is not Kitkat.
I've already been through that thread and haven't really found my solution to my issue. Any ideas?

Sadly no, my friend. Any reason in particular about why you want this specific update?
Let's hope somebody else in this forum can help you.
Are you running a stock recovery? Have you tried using Myth Tools to flash back to stock?
Its running stock rom from factory everything is factory right now
I kept getting the dead Android as well. We're you running a KK ROM on your phone before restoring to stock? I was running Validus and tried to use Myth Tools to flash a stock ATT 4.1.1 ROM which also failed to take the update. I then installed a 4.1.2 Bell stock ROM (my phone came from Bell) via Myth, let the phone boot, and then flashed a stock ATT ROM via Myth and it took the update.

I am on 4.1.1 from the factory. This is a referb phone from the factory like not even a week old yet. Boot loader isn't even unlocked. Its all stock and I'm getting dead android.
If you're getting the dead Android, it makes me believe that something may be wrong with the stock recovery. Some people were able to get the update to install using the latest Philz Touch recovery rather than stock recovery.
This might help from Skeevy: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52745043&postcount=7
