[Q] Setup wizard issues after upgrading ViperOne ROM - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been happily running ViperOne 5.8 for a while.
When trying to upgrade to the 6.0.0, after the updating apps window finished, a very persistent window kept reappearing : setup wizard has stopped working. I pressed OK a few dozen times before giving up on that.
I was able to access the notification bar and the venom tweaks were working too, so I was able to access Task Manager (through a longpress setup in tweaks in 5.8) and kill the process . I noticed that I had lost all my settings; screensaver, folders, downloaded apps were gone, etc. When I went to recovery I saw that the TWRP 2.7 I had was back to 2.6.3.3 and the red HTC warning was back.
Now I'm back to my Nandroided ? Viperone 5.8 no issues.
I haven't seen any reports on this yet. Thoughts or solutions?
Thanks for the great work everyone on this forum.

Thank you, that did it.
Funny, I thought I'd tried that , but only after flashing the 6.0.
Thanks again from a Noob.

Hanging on Install/Uninstall

Disclaimer: did several forum searches and google searches and came up empty, so if I missed the exact wording and this is covered elsewhere please don't flame me into oblivion.
For some reason my Nexus One running FRF85B is unable to install or uninstall any apk's. It just hangs at the installing... or uninstalling... respectively. Has anyone else ever seen that?
Installing has always been really darn quick. Now it just appears to be hanging.
EDIT: Adding new symptom: "Manage Applications" shows the apps installed , but their space is forever listed as "Computing...". It's like the manage applications service is just hosed.
Randy
I have seen that as well. I would have to exit (back or home) then when I got back to the applications screen again it wouldn't have to load at all.
Same here, AT&T Nexus One using FRF85B.
The weird thing is, the app(s) actually DO uninstall or install correctly, just that the Market page shows it's not, and hangs at it.
When I force stop the market, then relaunch and check my downloads, they're now reset to the correct info.
Well I'm glad it is not just me. Thinking it was a bad ROM I reinstalled (with complete wipe) Modaco's ROM, then stock Froyo, etc.
Problem went away when I just said screw it and installed CM 5.0.8.
The only problem that persists now is the server error going to the downloads tab of the market. I can't seem to lick that one even though apps download and install fine from the market.
On a side note CM5.0.8 still is snappier than Froyo. I'm salivating at the thought of CM6.
If anyone is also getting persistent errors with the market downloads tab, please chime in. I find it suspicious that I'm having this problem regardless of which ROM is installed.
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
No matter what I do I still get the server error in the Android Market application when I go to the downloads tab.
I've re-flashed the Froyo Radio and tried both CM 5.0.8 and Froyo.
I don't see others complaining about this so I have to imagine there's something wrong on my end. I just don't know how to diagnose it. Does anyone have any ideas? At All?

I did see that in the CM 5.0.8 ROM, but Froyo is a complete no-go. I've reflashed the radio, and have been using Modaco's ROM because it is the only one I know of that is just a rooted update I can flash with Amon-RA's recovery, but still no luck.
This is scary.
UPDATE
I went all the way back to Stock, Unrooted 2.1 from January, and still get the server error in the downloads page of the Market app. So for giggles, I wiped, created a new gmail account, and lo and behold, everything works. I could download apps, and they showed up in the download tab as installed.
That pretty much puts an end to thinking it's an app/ROM/radio problem, I think.
I then wiped again, went through initial setup with my primary Google account and I'm back to server errors on the downloads tab.
I guess maybe it really IS a server error. Don't know what I can do about it, except gripe...but at least I can stop scratching my head over what ROM/Radio is installed.
After several days of experimenting, the fact is that on any Froyo rom, whether it's stock or rooted, google's or cyanogen's, wiped or not wiped, new gmail account or existing gmail account, what I'm seeing is that, even if I wipe, go into Android and DO NOT enter a google account, going straight to settings | Manage Applications | running applications, shows "Computing..." forever.
Now, if I do a full wipe, it doesn't know anything about my account, right? And the cache, and all that are all wiped. So, what could possibly cause the infinite "Computing..." in the apps?
Does anyone know?
It happened to me as well last night. I was installing an apk (updating over an older version), and it showed "Installing...." forever. No hardware button gave me any response and I eventually had to reboot the machine by pressing the 3 buttons (luckily this worked. I really hate the thought of pulling the battery out...). After the reboot I tried again and it installed without a problem.
I m on a stock Nexus One FRF91, never hv an issue b4 that latest system update. Looks like it is bringing more issues to me...
what 3 buttons reboot the phone?
The same thing is happening to me. When trying to install any market app, it just hangs at "installing. I have to reboot the phone to get it to stop doing it.
Every once in a while, about 1 out of 15 times, I can get an app to install correctly and quickly, but all the other times it hangs.
It started happening when going to froyo. I have tried several different froyo mods and the same thing happens on all of them. When I nandroid back to 2.1 it is fine.
It happens to me with the Rodriguezstyle mod, the Kang-O_rama mod and the evil n-one shot Noir mod.
In order to fix this issue. You MUST do the following steps:
1. Wipe the SD card.
2. Wipe ext partition (if there)
3. Delete spareparts if you have it ANYWHERE on the system
4. Reboot the system into recovery
5. Wipe all cache's
Tada! Fixed!
This fixed it for me on Kang-O-Rama.
I belive the problem is when moving ROMs and the new app2SD feature stores files on the SD. When moving ROM's, it try's to scan them but fails. Something is stuck in a loop and wont stop .
When taking out the SD card, it ALL works flawlessly (give it a go if you need to install some apps to help)

Press the trackball, volume down and the power button all at the same time.
If you have root then the app quick boot is a one click solution.
When I was or do have a stalling at the install. I clear the market data and this works for me. I also try to keep the cache clear.

installed cmod7, stuck at "Setup Wizard"

Installed cmod7 stable (7.2) and the gapps file (found in another link - the one on nookdevs doesn't work). On first boot, it is stuck at a screen that just has a bar that says "Setup Wizard". The bar doesn't appear to be tapable. Search forum, no threads found on this.
Thanks in advance!

I powered off and then on so it would reboot - it went through the setup screens. I get aborts of android.process.media so it won't let me go through the google play icon. When I try to click on Nookreader for android while on barnes and noble web site, it aborts again. I had the latest daily on here 2 days ago and was getting the same abort, but only twice when android first started. Tapping on google play then said "server error" and would NEVER work. Tried through the web - said I needed to use google play app - hence a big loop of nothing working. That's when I went to the "stable" version of 7.20 encore. It doesn't appear to want to do anything right.
Any advice on getting this all to work would be greatly appreciated. Using clockwork with the nook 1.4.3 firmware is getting old just to get back to a device that works, albeit not with full android.

Thanks so much for the help! I really want this to work!
I installed just CM7 and booted up - got one message about the media thing again but only one. I then went to set up wifi and now I'm stuck at that screen - then n button doesn't pop up anything to let me go back to something - like home.
I don't know if it makes any difference - I did the format data/system reset option then the cm7 flash, but it is still remembering my wireless settings somewhere as it automatically connects and it's a wpa2 network. Is there another step for erasing/formatting something that I missed?
Sorry to sound so stupid - but I'm completely a noob (LOVE the video on the registration page!).
Thanks so much again!
Dave:
nope - still not working
Well, installed cm7 and set up wifi, checked it was working by going to the web. Let it sit a few minutes, then reboot with the microSD and installed the gapps. Rebooted, went through google setup, then tried the google play via the icon on the home screen - same thing. It repeats the android.media.application abort message 2 times and then aborts the google play before I even get anywhere.
So......I'm wondering about my google apps zip file -> it said it was google apps for android 2.x.x, whereas I thought the cm7 I installed was android 3. Does this make a diffference?
Thanks again!
Dave :fingers-crossed:

still failing
I downloaded the cmod 7.0 file and the gapps (thanks Hoser88!!), created the microSD, booted, did the format data/system reset and installed cmod 7.0. Rebooted, got the same 2 error messages about "android.media.application" aborting, then checked wireless and it was running.
Rebooted with the microSD and installed gapps, removed microSD and rebooted, got the same 2 error messages. Tapped on "Market", it showed a screen with something circling in the middle VERY briefly, then that closed out and the same 2 error messages came up again.
I'm starting to get worried, as I *think* I'm doing what I'm supposed to yet it doesn't work for me. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Just to see what happens, I'm going to try the latest nightly cmod7 and see what that does.
Thanks!
Dave
same problems........
I made the microSD with the latest nightly of cmod 7 and the gapps pointed to above. I flashed cmod 7 first, booted, checked wireless, etc.. Still get the same 2 aborts about android.process.media on startup. I then booted again with the microSD and installed the gapps, removed microSD and rebooted. Got the same 2 aborts on startup. Tapped "Market", you see another screen the says "loading" very briefly, then that screen goes away and the android.process.media abort shows and I have to tap force close (this happens twice). I have no idea what this media process is, but is there a way to disable it? I get the feeling it is contributing to my problems.
I'm really lost here. I want this SO bad. I want to have full Android, and have both the Nook and Kindle reader apps so I can keep all my books on 1 device.
Thanks in advance!
dave
Tried more, still fails
I tried a recent suggestion on the cyanogen nook color forum: format data/factory reset and format /system, then install. I did this using the latest nightly and gapps - still got the same abort twice. Found another note in the cyanogen forum saying to go to the rom app and run set permissions and then reboot. I did that - STILL get the aborts. Can't get to google play (shows as "Market") get the quick "Loading" screen followed by immediate close of that and 2 more aborts for adroid.process.media.
I know it remembered my wireless, etc. again. Is there something else I need to format so it completely forgets everything so I'm starting from a clean slate? What can be causing the adroid.process.media abort and how do I get rid of it? Sometimes I think it thinks it is running on a phone, and obviously it's not - do I need to something additional for that as well?
I'm feeling quite confused right now. I've done everything from here and from what I read in the cyanogen nook color forum, but I still can't get this to work. What's the use of running cmod 7 if I can't access the google app store? Please help!
Thank you,
Dave
It works!!
Don't know WHAT I did - I just completely re-downloaded everything - the clockwork image (16gb), the cmod 7.0, and the gapps. Before installing, I went in with the existing install that wasn't working as it should and turned off several apps and cleared their cache when available. I then booted the new microSD - format data/system reset, format /system, installed cmod 7 zip and gapps zip. Removed microSD and rebooted. No more message about android.process.media aborting! It also asked me to set up my Google stuff again, so that was a step in the right direction. I then tried "Market", and IT WORKED!! It still aborts occasionally but I just go right back in and keep going. I did run into something I don't understand - the Nook for Android app page puts a message at the top saying it's not compatible with my device!! Huh? Do I need to may install cmod7.2 stable since this part is working now?
Thanks for the help!! If anyone could help me through the rest of this (get Nook for Android app, getting Kindle for Android app) then I should be good to go from there. I can always download other apps I might want, but I just want to get those 2 working first.
Thanks again!
Dave
It works and I have Kindle and Nook apps!
I updated to 7.20 stable (least wise I hope I did it right - I just flashed from zip but didn't format anything first). After that update I was able to get the B&N Nook reader and the Kindle reader apps! Everything seems to be working fine now - no aborts, nothing!
So.....a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who helped me out!
Thanks SO much!!
Dave :good:

Some of the other forums I'm on have a set of thread tools - one of which lets you mark the thread as solved. Is there a tool like that on this forum (haven't found it yet if there is) ?

[Q] Stock camera keeps vanishing??

UPDATE:
Nevermind. I solved the problem. Jusy installed Bad Boyz Sprint Sense 6 rom and everything now works alot better.
After having boatloads of problems that came out of the blue, I had to RUU my Sprint M7 back to stock. Luckily that fixed everything it seems. All except the camera app. I could open the app. But it would do nothing but stay frozen for a few seconds and then crash. I had previously been using the Jishnu camera mod. So I flashed it. It showed that it flashed successfully. But after rebooting, the camera was completely missing. The camera apk was in the system apps folder. But it was nowhere to be found in Settings or anywhere else.
So I went a step further and installed a stock Sprint M7 deodexed rom. That brought the camera back. But it was the same problem all over again. Frozen. Would not work at all. Installing the camera mod changed the icon to a green Android bot. When clicking the icon, it would show "App isn't installed" or something similar.
Next I went into app settings and cleared the data under "HTC Sense". That seemed to reset the home screen. And the camera app icon was completely gone once again.
Is there some way to fix this problem? I don't really get why this is happening, even after re flashing the whole OS. I am familiar with manually moving files into the system directory. But not sure how to set permissions.
Phone is rooted.

xposed framework update hang

Hi
I am having a rooted note3,(N900A, KitKat) with safestrap.
I got a notification from Xposed framework that it is having a update. after clicking it, I got a screen having 4-5 option buttons. one of them in the top was install update.
After applying it asked for reboot.
I did.
then it is stuck at this for 17 hours.

tried to google it and found all of them are about ICS update.
help !!
didn't get any reply.
so removed the battery after 20 hours and the device refused to boot after it
went to safestrap recovery and wiped clean with default setting, happened to be factory reset.
Now I am back with my note3 , and installing everything from beginning.
I installed old version (2.6.1) of xposed framework and it is fine. I think the last experimental 2.7 version is buggy.

Nook HD+ app issues, reboots, now stuck at boot. Help.

I had the Nook HD+ running CyanogenMod for a few years.
I changed nothing, but lately it stopped working, complaining about Trebuchet, so I changed the launcher and it worked again, but giving occasional errors about an app not starting.
In the last few days it also started sporadically rebooting itself. Plunging it in did not seem to change anything. Lowering the max CPU speed from 1.5GHz to 1.1 did not help.
Now, it would not start at all – it would always get stuck at the circling CyanogenMod boot screen. It would still shut down using a long press.
I can start the rescue fine, with no unwanted reboots.
I do have a small amount of data there that I would like to be able to take out, if possible.
I don't care for any specific OS version/mod.
What do you think is the cause of this issue?
How can I fix this? Can I get the Data out?
Btw, in the years it was working, it did have an issue of sometimes restarting instead of shutting down.
I never knew if it was a fault with my device or the with latest CM.

Hi Kov8.
I was running CM 11.1 for ovation and experienced the same thing. My solution was to install a newer version.
To save your data, set up an SD card (be sure you have enough extra room for your data) with the TWRP 3.0.1-0 version here:
https://notredame.app.box.com/s/26a4bygh9vbaw7jjq08xr5evomvaw5ww/folder/3332706778
Load TWRP and look for the File Manager. I think it's under "Advanced." You can use that to copy or move your data to the SD card.
After that, consider upgrading to AOSP or LNOS. I can install AOSP without much difficulty, but LNOS doesn't go well. More on that in a later post.
If you need more detailed information, look at this post and download the pdf at the end of the first post:

Yes. I've been reading that all the recent ROMs do that.
The solution is to do a standard shutdown followed by a hard shutdown (by holding the power button for 8 seconds).
I suspect that going straight for the hard shutdown caused some file system errors that made installing new ROMs very difficult.
I'm OK now, though.
Thanks for the detailed reply! I will try.

That's funny. I just downloaded two copies from that link.
For version 3.2.1-0, it sounds like you're looking at the version from the team win website. I haven't tested that one thoroughly, but I have tried out their version 3.1.1-0. It works pretty well. It gave me some minor error messages here and there, but if I just repeated what resulted in the error, it generally went through on the second attempt without an error.
The link worked for me later. I managed to change to TWRP 3.0.1-0 only after removing the version identifier from the zip file. I later easily upgraded TWRP to the newest.
I also upgraded to the latest AOSP from the same source, without deleting, as I couldn't get the data from one app. I then installed ARM 7.1 pico gapps. Some apps kept crashing, but removing and reinstalling seems to have fixed that.
The only problem, is that now shut down never works, and restart always takes me to recovery. So I just hard shutdown there.

Mind telling how you managed to update twrp from 3.0 1 to the latest? I successfully installed 3.0.1 to my nook hd+, then flashed 3.2.1 img to recovery, now the device stuck at boot.
I simply downloaded to img file from their website (for ovation, my device), placed on the micro-sd, and installed it from TWRP itself. As simple as that.
Are you sure that you got the correct version for your device?
I also always verify the integrity of roms after writing them to a card. I've seen bad cards.
