Guys,
So I recently, successfully, followed the [ROM][CM7] [v1.3] Size-agnostic SD Card image and CM7 installer for SD Cards thread to use CM7 on an SD Card on my Nook Color 1.4.2. Everything worked out flawlessly and everything seems to be working just fine.
I have the Original Nook OS running via Internal Memory (If I boot without SD Card); and CM7 running via SD Card.
One issue that i've run into is that my YouTube is not playing HD Videos. If I try to play any HD Video, I get the error..
"There was a problem playing this video.
Please touch to retry".
If I click the "HD" button on top-right corner to disable HD, the video starts playing just fine in SD Quality. All SD Videos play just fine.
I have not been able to play any HD video at all on YouTube.
The YouTube I'm talking about is the YouTube App available on the Google Play Store.
Is it just me or do HD Videos not play on the Nook Color via YouTube?
Thanks!!
Unfortunately it depends on the format the hd is encoded to... it is hit and miss.
One thing that MAY help is to install MX player and the codec pack for it.

Thanks for replying Dizzy.
I installed MX Player and it's codecs; I have to say that my actual MP4/MKV files are actually running pretty smooth & nicely in this player .... however, YouTube HD Videos still won't work.
I think what bothers me is that it's not appearing as a "hit and miss" with me; it's appearing as a total "miss" with me and I want to make sure it's not just me. Over the last couple of days I must have tried something like 30 ~ 40 HD Clips - absolutely none of them work - each gives the same message.
Could it be something else in my setup?
Thanks.

I think the hit and miss is HQ work, but HD do not.

Ok - so basically HD Videos do not work on YouTube on the NC at all; that is fine, I think I just primarily wanted to make sure it's not just me or my setup. I know "HD" isn't really conducive on the NC anyways since it's max resolution is 854 X 480 ... it's not even 720p.
Thanks for clarifying.
Is there any way to modify the YouTube apk so that it won't play in HD? It's been getting annoying how it keeps trying to play in HD and just fails.

I'd like to know this as well.
Try the apk in the following link to play HQ youtube clips
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1282736
Only problem is that Google play detects this as an old version and will try and update. You could always break the market link with Titanium Backup or similar program

Actually the resolution is 1024x600.
A bit better than the lower res 854 x 480.

Try starting youtube app...
go menu... Settings... if High quality on mobile is checked... uncheck it... if it is unchecked... check it.
Mine is checked...
NOTICE: with it checked or unchecked... if you select a HD video... it will ALWAYS initialize in HD mode and you have to tap on the HD logo top right of video to avoid the error message.

I'm Running ICS and the only option in the Settings is to Disable HD over 3G, which the Nook doesn't have. Clicking the HD button disables HD playback for a Playlist but as soon as you leave the Playlist it defaults to HD again. Also HQ is also disabled if you Disable HD in the App. What I need is a patch for the Youtube app so that it thinks my Nook isn't HD capable as it's supposed to.

This was already suggested in this thread, but you can install an older version of YouTube that does not detect you are running in HD and it will play HD videos in HQ. They are decent quality and do not crash. But there is no tablet interface either. To keep play store from updating or bugging you, uncheck automatic updating for YouTube and tell it to not notify you of updates. Get the older version here:

It is version 2.1.6

I already know about that but I updated to CM9 to get the new ICS interfaces. I'd rather suffer the HD presses(Which are less difficult in the latest UI overhaul from Google) then Downgrade. I'm just expressing that I'd be interested if anybody wanted to try and patch it. I have nowhere near the coding skills to create a patch myself(I'm standing on Earth while the Skills are on Neptune).

Well, I did try to patch it but for some reason I could not get it to decompile.

I see, that's odd.
I installed cm-11-20141218 on my Nook HD plus. It's my first root. Everything went smoothly.... except in Google play movies it says 'Playback isn't supported on this device' when trying to stream my movies and shows (same issue in Disney Movies). All other Google apps appear to be working fine. However, I can download and watch or cast and watch, but both options produce very low quality images (I do have the HD download option set). Normally the Nook HD plus has great video playback quality. Ironically I can now watch 1080p videos in YouTube (but not purchased videos).
I was hoping that someone might have a simple fix.... thanks.
Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum.

I don't watch videos there, but I suspect they don't work on rooted devices, so you need an app that hides your root status. I don't know exact name, you can search on Google.

Hello!
I recently inherited a 4th gen Kindle Fire HD 7 and it's cool, but I currently use Google Play Books to read, but unfortunately, I cannot get it to work on the Fire. I have tried a method on Gizmag (can't post link) but it still doesn't work. I was able to get Google Play Music to work. Everything installs fine, except Play Books continually says "no connectivity". I've tried resetting and installing everything again and my date and time are correct.
Any suggestions or methods to get Google Play Books working on a 4th gen Fire?
Thanks,
Jacob
Hey Guys,
I just got my device. Should I keep my device locked to 5.0.0 or move over to 5.0.1?
I want to make sure I am on the same page as everyone else.
I would remain on 5.0.0, to be able to install and set as default a different launcher.
Because the default one really sucks
I have two one at 5.0.1 and one at 5.0.0. While the Amazon launcher sucks being unable use the Google play store on 5.0.0 is a big minus for that version. Been really busy with work and life stuff so I haven't done much work on them. I carry the 5.0.1 one everyday with Play music and a number of games on it. The battery life is pretty good when n playing downloaded music so I use it as an music player at work.
Google Play doesn't work in 5.0.0 still?
That's a deal breaker.
I don't mind not having Google play the only problem I've had is it doesn't recognise in app purchases I'm getting my apks paid off Google onto my fire YouTube and other apps work fine think of it like having a Google tablet without the store but all the logins

Basically what the title says. For some reason, Google Play Movies does not want to work on my Tab S2 when it is rooted? Is there a way to force it to run? All of the other play apps (Music, Books etc.) work just fine, it's just Movies that's acting up. I've already tried RootCloak, but that didn't work.
Also, I just thought of this. Has anyone tried downloading a movie from google play movies while the device is rooted, and see if it plays?
I know this is old, but I have a somehow different but jet similar issue, because I when I had my device rootet on default firmware there was no problem, but now on AOSPA I can watch, but not download any movies.
