Ok, so I've been reading quite a bit what's been going on in out little section of XDA lately(what can I say, I have a lot of free time), ad I have to say I'm a bit shocked. The bickering, flaming and general trash talking seems to be getting out of control. Now I've only been on here for about a year now, but the vibe on the T-mo GSII is not what I'd expect from XDA. The spirit of the community seems to have changed. So here's a suggestion; if you have beef with someone, take it to a PM, no one needs to see that you're pissed off about whatever you're pissed about. There has been way too much childish behavior floating around here for a forum about development and furthering the capabilities/software of our phones. So that being said, flame away lol /endrant
Thank you for saying it.
Well said

I completely agree, I have seen a lot of what is posted, and I choose to never comment or reply to it so as not to be a participant. But I see it, mostly ego driven irrelevant garbage that should be handled via pm as you are saying.

Amen brothers!!!! Its time to put differecnes aside and get back to doing what we love to do. Xda was and still can be a great thing if we can keep attitudes and childish behavior in check.

Can someone make me a mod so I can just go through and delete all these threads?? I'm so sick of people *****ing and moaning about stupid stuff. Not to mention all the poor grammar. Language barrier aside, there needs to be some serious spellcheck usage going on in here. Half the posts aren't so poorly written they don't make sense.
So here's my offer: if xda makes me a mod, I will, without bias, actively remove garbage posts and ridiculousness from these forums. Seriously.
Bunch of immature kids stinking up our forums.

It's honestly just the age of the users showing. There's a ton of n00bs and kids running around ready to gun for someone else's fight. Stick to what you know and never blindly follow someone just cause they are 'devin'.

I think that maybe you should proof read your messages before you send them. "Half the posts aren't so poorly written they don't make sense." That doesnt make sense.
Yea guys i just want to say that if any of u seen what hapoened in revolutions rom thread i just wanted to say that i am sorry for my actions. I was trying to stick up for the little kid. and this kid not going to put name out there came at me and got my family involved for no apparent reason. It kind of set me off after that but i just wanted to say again i am sorry for what happened in the thread. I like the community we have and we dont need **** like that

S'all good brotherman, there is a lot of anger being guided by n00bs and kids. I personally was 'jumped' in melvins thread for asking him to remove |FASTEST EVER| BUG FREE | EPIC| from his rom title. I called out an obvious fallacy and was practically tortured, having even my own facebook brought up. The level of respect people are willing to trade for 'updates' is unfathomable. I had predicted this weeks ago after that little war started and had mentioned all the kanging, begging for donations, flaming of users. Those are not things this community wants, or needs from a dev. If you support that, or think it was wrong you are part of the problem. n00bs are thanking 100x + for a rom that has never been stable or even original, all the roms he claimed to make are just ports of old half done projects with stuff kanged from the real devs at whatever device forum he weaseled his way into.
Be aware XDA, stop giving support to people that steal, beg & flame or the community will surely parish.

There are so many people joining this community that hasn't the slightest idea of what they're joining. They get a cool phone, someone tells them "hey you should hack that, goto xda, you can hack anything over there!" They join and realize that you just can't plug and hack. We're getting newbies that rather not lurk and learn the language, rules, and customs of this community. You have people here who pushes the devs as if they owe something to us. You have people on here who don't have a basic understanding of technology, yet they continue post misleading information. This forum has become a haven for people to complain rather than problem solving, and most of it is coming from new people who don't understand what this forum is really suppose be!

Such a great forum but sadly as long as there is kids there will be flaming and stupidity. It is why I stopped playing World of Warcraft, or any other game that involves the public. Ppl get behind a keyboard and become "Keyboard Warriors" they know they can say anything to anyone with out danger of physical harm regardless of how vile it is. When we all know 95% of everyone said on the internet wouldn't be said face to face ...... XDA should be about helping noobs and not flaming them because at one point some one helped us out of Noob status.

That was ultimately how I found XDA, I think the difference now, is how people are approaching this forum. When I started (first phone I rooted was a mytouch 3g slide) I read, read, and then re-read just to make sure. I never expected anything of anyone, asked questions, respectfully, mind you, only when I got stuck AFTER rereading the op. Whoever said it earlier I think hit the nail on the head, I think it has a lot to do with the age group of people who have been joining lately. Part of that ultimately makes be happy. Someone who starts tinkering(the right way) at the age of 16 will probably bring us big things in the future. The downside is you have kids, who are ultimately going to act their age. Now that is certainly not the case 100% of the time.

I really don't bother with the negatives comments I blame tech sites and companies fighting about specs and numbers. most people here are phone/tech geeks so they are going to argue what phone/OS is better rather than arguing who's better Tupac or Biggie. I came here for one reason to MOD my phone and share experiences not to point fingers if you have a windows mobile or a low end android or to argue who got the hottest phone and specs. So I hope XDA continues to be a community to help each other rather than bashing the other phones choice.
Actually, if you look at the international board. It is actually productive and not littered with ignorance and children
The international community makes this one look pathetic, In terms of productivity and helpfulness
this board is littered with name calling , junk posts, and people who don't read. Resulting in a very unproductive and not helpful environment
The international makes this place look like a joke
........I know the problem is not the majority of users though so hopefully things get better

As of lately our beloved forum has seen some of the worst negativity and bashing I have ever seen. I am not completely innocent in this either. I have made a couple of comments I shouldnt have made too and I apologize to whoever I may have offended. But to be honest this type of behavior and just meanness has to stop. I love XDA and everything we do but we are losing members and developers daily because of all the hate here. If you dont like a rom or whatever work has been done just please keep all the negativity to yourselves. If you have a problem with someone keep it in pm and not in their thread. We have to turn this forum around or we are setting ourselves and our phones up for doom. We have lost alot of good people and maybe if the see the drama has stopped they will come back. I too am on the fence about getting a different phone and moving on but i love this phone. I am capable of building my own roms and themes but I love having a place to share ideas and our work. I am begging my fellow XDA brothers and sisters to help in the effort to make XDA what it once was. With that being said I would like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and joyous holiday season!
Good stuff man and you are definitely right! Lets stop the bs and get along.....merry christmas xda

I agree, but it has to start with XDA being able to control this.
They need to start banning people for at least a week or something so they can learn. This is for XDA as a whole not just our community.
This is not the only place where things are getting out of hand.
People won't stop until something is done, until then there will always be someone trolling trying to get a rise out of people.
I am guilty myself of saying things I shouldn't of, but it just gets to me sometimes. Especially since I cant control it, but I at least base my opinion.
I guess we must all do our part as well and start reporting people.
I've also noticed that there is favoritism going around since some have been banned and not others that have done the same if not worse, not gonna name anyone to not start another flame war.
But that's not OK and if that's the case then there's no point on trying.
I hope everyone reads this and does their part. We have a great phone and we must stop if we want some great development to continue.

Its gotta be a group effort or it won't change. If someone is being negative then you just ignore them and if it is offensive then report it to a mod and let them handle it. This should be said for Devs too, you dont have to respond to every negative post and get everyone riled up even more then people go to choosing sides , show a little more maturity and only answer questions pertaining to the Rom ive never seen a forum with Devs who get offended so easily .....just ignore and concentrate on the questions about development of your ROM. I hope this turns around and we have a sucessful forum once again cause this is a really great device we have

I agree with you there has to be some type of enforcement of the rules and it should be a zero tolerence. There has to be consequences for ones actions, without them members are running a muck. And they should be enforced equally no matter who it is or how popular they are. But we as members have to start this by being diligent about abiding to the rules and reporting those who dont follow them.
I agree ...
Although it is not actual "Negativity" or "bashing" that actually starts most of the trouble ...
It is the fact that , it has become the norm, for people to come here and expect to be spoon fed answers, and if they don't get them, they get upset.
XDA is first and foremost, or at least it was, a development community.
Now what does that mean to the end users, well, it means, you should come here to learn and if you have something to share, to participate.
If you are just coming here to "expect" everyone to feed you the answers just so you can pimp out your phone, that is not what it is about ..
READ READ READ, then you can ask better questions.
I am sure the DEVs and most experienced users here get annoyed, with every right, when people ask the same question , OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER, when with a little reading they could have solved it themselves.
I hope everyone has a great holiday season!!!

I too get annoyed when new members or even old members ask the same questions but there is a way to handle it. People are so quick to jump on someone for asking a question then everyone gets defensive and then the fun starts. With the way the threads have been lately you have to read thru 10 pages of pure and utter chaos and crap to find your answer. It does seem that those of us that have been here for awhile want to see a change. I have received alot of pm's in support. I know with some work and help from the mods we can make it the way it was. I am totally committed to this.
LONG time XDA'er here. You Mods these days are really something else. Personally this is the SECOND developer ( Dj_Steve and Mohgk ) I've seen you drive away on 2 of 2 devices in the last 3 months. Statistically you are hurting the forum more than moderating and using your common sense. That has to say something.
All you needed to do was read the threads, warn in threads, and clean up the spatter. I moderate on several other sites. This is just sad and seriously makes me think about alternatives. It been like this for the last 1.5 years here on XDA.
Had you properly moderated, you would have seen the initial posts which flamed the threads. If someone told me my work was unappreciated and garbage after I spent hours on something, I'd be a little miffed too.
In any case, great moderating. Good luck to the other upcoming Devs. Happy holidays everyone

I think one of the main problems is that due to android's growing popularity, we're seeing a lot more ignorant douchebags in here who just want to take & not give, and who have zero knowledge of forum etiquette. I was a sidekick dev back in the day & xda is sadly starting to remind me a lot of the old Danger forums- a wild jungle of a place where you had to hack through post after post of word-vomit & ignorance before you can actually find any REAL knowledge. Yes, we need to take out the trash & start cracking down on the jackassery. Badly. I'm tired of seeing threads devolve into personal attacks & 8th grade bickering over stupid ****. Its gotten to the point where I hesitate to even post sometimes.

+1 I know I don't know everything but I always try to use the search button to find my answers before starting a new thread or asking in the thread. I really find it annoying when someone asks a question that has been answered in the OP especially. When I do try to help I'll try to point them in the direction but not spoon feed them the link.
I remember when I used to have my Vibrant. Moderators would shut down a thread and clean up the whole thread and then re-open it later on after cleaning up all the bs. Threads still are getting cluttered up with Thank you's and downloading now posts. We have a thanks button for a reason.

I can't believe I have to write this post. Not long ago, the Atrix community on XDA-Developers was one of the most civil, respectful, and kind groups out there. Now, it appears new members have either joined and not learned the rules. Or, perhaps the older members forgot the rules. I'm ashamed and sad that the Atrix community let me down.
I will reiterate some of the rules below.
Do not demand things from developers. This may include feature requests for future releases. There is a line between respectfully requesting new features and disrespectfully demanding them. Learn it.
Do not swear on XDA-Developers ever.
Be kind and polite to all members, especially developers.
Be civil. There is a fine line between healthy debate and arguing. Do not cross that line.
Use the report button at the top right of each post to tell the moderation staff (me) that a post breaks the rules.
Do not give nonconstructive criticism to developers.
I agree with almost everything you said, Ken, except the part about this being an Atrix forum problem. From what I've seen, this is a growing problem in all of XDA as new people join the conversations, a growing number of people who feel free to say any damn thing they like without consequence simply because they're hidden behind a handle (without taking into account that there are real people just like them on the other side of their screens). Respectfully, it seems to me that to single out the Atrix forums for this problem -- which they do have, no question about it -- seems rather short-sighted.

What I meant by that insertion was that the Atrix forum community 8-9 months ago rarely/never behaved this way. The problem isn't necessarily with one forum or with XDA itself. I didn't mean to say that.
You nailed the problem on the head— people on the internet (no matter what forum you visit) will act as if there are no consequences and hide behind their web usernames.
Be civil. There is a fine line between healthy debate and arguing. Do not cross that line.

The biggest issue, in my opinion.
Aside from the fact that users are often going "I'll donate IF you do this, IF I can have this by then" to developers.
This is more of an XDA Problem in general; with such a large user base, I suppose manners have simply disappeared on the forums.
Anyway, though I can't apologize on behalf of the rude and inconsiderate users you have probably dealt with, I'd like to personally say thank you for dealing with us all.
The demands made on the developers show a complete lack of respect and maturity, in my opinion.
The same should also be applied to fellow users. A little common respect for each other goes a long way. The constant bickering, name calling, and insults gets old fast.
Thanks for addressing this issue, Ken!
Yeah. I think you guys touched on an important point: Treat people on XDA as you would politely in real life.
There are no robots on XDA. Each account has a real person behind it— a real person that can be frustrated, embarrassed, angry, and self-conscious.

Thanks for your input. Remember, the best way you can help keep our community great is to report people when they step out of line. Happy posting!
Another point which you can add :-
Please note that the devs have a personal life as well and do this for fun or learning new things in there free time. They have a day time job which pays for this hobby. Please respect that.
I apologise for sounding like an old man. I promise you i am not. This kind of thing had been a problem for a long time on Internet forums. Any one remember chat avenue? I believe that this has become more of a problem at xda because even though the site has any moderators their primary concern is technical and intellectual property. This is vital for a site such as this. But maybe there should be more enforcement of the rules of behavior? A couple of friendly warnings and advice and then failing that a tempory suspension. Failing that we trace their ip and send in a team of assassins.
i have to agree with this thread fully, sadly it came to this that it has to be stated so obvious, but some people really use words like "i want to have..." "make this..." and so on expressing rather demands than wishes/suggestions , it is true many users on xda are not native english speaking (me included), but there should be at least some thought put into posting so that it doesnt come out as demands or insults even.
As a non-english speaking dude, I *try* to avoid several expressions that perhaps in my native language may even sound polite, but translating them into english may sound bad, and express myself into simple english instead. If every non-english spoken people around here do the same, it will be easier separate the wheat from the straw...
My joining date don't make justice (at all) over the time I'm enjoying XDA developers' fruits, thus I want to express my most sincere thanks to every each developer and offer my humble help at anyone I can.
Keep doing the incredible job you're doing!!
As a non-native speaker it's not easy to hit the right tone. Most try their best but I think for some its hard to formulate a polite request, feature suggestion or bug report as such in a foreign language. And sometimes it comes out as a forceful command even if unintended.
And yes then there is the problem of individuals who can't even be polite in their own language because they never learned.
Lastly there are life forms who do not want to be polite without cause of beeing provoked.
For the first group I hope you use the principle of benefit of the doubt.
For the second we could try to teach them.
For the third just ban them.
My Story...
If you look at my join date, you'll see that I am also a very new member to these forums.
However, when I started, I was a total noob. So nooby that I got an infraction
I was only 16 and I knew nothing about ADB, editing build.prop's and all sorts; all I knew was how to flash stuff from recovery. I was admittedly a flash-o-holic, using Alien, Aura, DarkSide and Home Base ROM's and continuously switching back and forth.
Yet from this background, I have now created Neutrino ROM. The XDA forums as a community is a really good way to gain knowledge about all sort's of cool stuff. When used properly, it could really bring out the 'developer' inside of people. Creating my ROM was actually much easier than initially expected, and as time went on, I learnt more and more, enabling myself to include cooler and cooler tweaks.
My point is, that when these forums are used properly, it can really change people's lives. I think even Kennethpenn was in a similar situation, as I remember watching a video review of Alien ROM and it said in the description that he was a new developer.
It's a real shame that trolls cause all sorts of issues in the forums. If people respect each other and appreciate the benefits of open-source, then what a community this great community already, will be.

Fair enough. If you think your message may be unclear, just make sure to say "English is my second language" or something. I know the feeling. When I speak to people in Spanish, I can accidentally sound rude and not even know it.
I see a Nation flag of the user beside most posts.
If its not US, UK, Australia (please forgive me for not listing all other English native speaking Nation) I just consider it an accident if he was rude.

I fully agree with you, this has happened to me in Simply-android, made a request, but translated into English for the dev sounded bad, I had difficulty explaining that there was an obrigation, but a request ...
ps: is now happening again ....# 1158, # 1159 ....... sometimes it seems they are just waiting for someone to ask for something to start the insults ...
this is very sad ...
I'm glad that you pointed out the fact that some "veterans" of XDA can also be the problem. Some users like to act as the Judge and Jury all by themselves.
Now, I'm not saying I'm completely innocent, sometimes I take my shots at some people that are being malcontent but I do try to help them in that situation. What I have tried doing is to provide assistance with a dose of mild, if not playful, "flaming" just as a friendly reminder of the rules and etiquette. For the most part, I usually get positive responses in those instances. I guess my point is, it might be okay to, every once in awhile, criticize someone as long as you are trying to help and are being positive about it.
I can relate to @Notorious544d about being a n00b. One of my very first posts on XDA was a thread I started in the Development forum asking a question But I was met with positive feedback and a reminder of the rules and I haven't done it again.
Now, if you find yourself in a position where you can't be positive or constructive in your response then either ignore it or report it. Just my 2 cents, hope I didn't step out of bounds on this one.
EDIT: I'm speaking about when interacting with other users and not developers.

I can't believe I have to write this post. Not long ago, the Atrix community on XDA-Developers was one of the most civil, respectful, and kind groups out there. Now, it appears new members have either joined and not learned the rules. Or, perhaps the older members forgot the rules. I'm ashamed and sad that the Atrix community let me down.

i don't want to flame here but want to give my opinion on some things that are happening here and aren't fair at all.
i'm here for about 6 months or so, i find this community very useful, helpful, fun.. etc.
many times topics get overloaded by useless discussions, fights or stupid offtopic talk. many users, topicstarters and moderators try to make sure the rules are followed. offcourse like in every large community there are good and bad users.
you can't prevent such things from happening.
but why? (now again with zeus's topic) every time something goes wrong the topic gets closed. TS and many good users are punished for something they had nothing to do with.
why not punish te ones that misbehave individually?
i don't want to tell the mod how he needs to do his work but this isn't fair in my opinion..
I couldn't aree more
The mod is a woman*

Agree 100% , the people in this particular sector are some of the most selfish I've seen with demands and expectations for a free product that has absolutely nothing to do with them and all that we do have is the result of someones HOBBY, not job. After coming from p500 with a roms out the wazoo it can be a little dissapointing in comparison, but if I cared enough to demand and complain I would simply do it myself.

Banning temporary cannot help. Later re post again. I rather XDA make ip blocker. Better
But, they can still counter with hotspotshield
why people feel this like as a murder, I can't understand
Blocking the account for few days is nice idea, then the blocked user will know the value of XDA in the meantime..
Blocking IP, etc. matter seem like, dealing the nail issue with an axe
Guys, don't make moderators seem as cruel people
anyone understand the above matter ?
I agree with you guys, as well as the modo too, I'm sure of it. BUT, think a little. in some threads they are hundreds of posts. do you really think they have all that time to spend for reading kiddy posts in order to find who has started to flame around ? USELESS. and also, banning users for two or three bad post is not fair too. this is a community, not a kind of private restricted ****. and by being a part of that community, you should think for the majority, not the opposite.
Well said friend...I agree with you.

that's totally the opposite of my intention..
big forum's just needs to be monitored, you can't help that.. there are always "bad" people arround.. no matter where you are in the world.
just to be clear, the mod here is doing her job very good.
the only thing i don't like is the closing of topics.. and by that you are punishing the wrong people.
i don't want people to get banned over a few bad or stupid posts, that's not my intention.
yeah, there are stupid people everywhere, that's life. but dude, locking a topic won't kill anyone. it's simply the easiest and quickest way to "pause" flamings. note that it is also in the goal of cleaning the thread peacefully. I don't said that they have to ban each times, just a meaning... she simply doesn't need to waste her time in nonsense tasks. it's like to stop all drivers on a route to find the idiot who crossed a red light. do you get the point ?
yeah, i get your point.
as you said yourself, this action only pauses the flaming/offtopic.
in a few days after reopening everything will be the same as it was before.
this doesn't help.. but maybe it's something that we/i need to accept that these problems will always exist in forums..
sometimes it's just hard to ignore some things that are said here.. people being unrespectfull towards dev's here..
lighten up and let go (said to myself)
yeah, let's be funky

Buttering a woman can be risky....
I for one, am extremely disappointed in regard to the fact that the devs behind PSX (Pure Speed eXperiment ROM) have left XDA and are going private. If you wish to see exactly why, head over to the now closed thread in OAD, but basically they've resorted to deserting their presence in the Nexus 5 forums due to disrespect put forth by us, the users.
This is a significant wake up call for our community. Now obviously not all of us have been disrespectful, at least the mature majority of us. But, there are many people who have, will continue to be to not only these developers but to all of them.
I'd like to remind those select people of why you are WRONG in every sense of the word by being disrespectful in any matter towards these wonderful developers here at XDA and beyond.
They share *FREE* software that they have spent HOURS upon HOURS on developing not only for themselves but for everyone at absolutely no cost.
Obviously some may provide opportunities to donate monetarily but 99% of the time this is optional.
(Although I do encourage donating and buying their paid apps)
To be ungrateful and simply acting like a whiny brat towards them is unacceptable!
If you experience any bugs, quirks, or anything you don't like in their software; go about reporting these things in a respectful, mature manner in their respective threads, or by PM.
If you can't do that, then simply do not use their software and revert back to stock! It's that simple.
So to end off, thank you Team Speed for your wonderful ROM and kernel that you have provided and will continue to provide to your core user base privately. You all will be missed dearly here on good ol' XDA. And to every other developer, do know that many of us appreciate your hard work, do not be discouraged and please continue to provide your awesome ROMs, kernels, themes, mods, apps and so on.

Actually for a thread that encouraged off topic discussion their thread was pretty good, people mostly talking about whatever and it seemed pretty happy. I would see people ask about features, but they weren't demanding anything there. The last few pages were of people not wanting the ROM to go, and people donating money...which looks a little suspect since they made an announcement of leaving and left the thread open for a while.
If you really can't live without that ROM try using Purity and you'll be fine.
Smatter, u getty no invitey?
Personally, I think the whole deal says more about the people who left, not the people here.

I'm not going to pretend every dev here works altruistically, that their work isn't documented and categorized into a work portfolio for future employment opportunities. I can write up a very persuasive essay showing how the devs should be grateful that they're gaining access to free tools and a free test bed to sharpen their skills: whereas in other industries, would cost a lot to even put it through trials. But that's not the point there. The point is that these people(devs) are opportunity-seekers that happen to have a goal that benefits us, the end-users where money doesn't have to exchange hands. Ask Steve Kondik what opportunities he was afforded as a result of his community-work.
These people definitely work hard and that alone deserve acknowledgement, but let's not pretend this was not a mutual business relationship. Do what one has to do in order to sooth the ethical side of this, but end of the day gains and losses all around. Where one team closes up shop, another one opens up to make a name for themselves. (Purity over PSX)
For the lost: the major discussion started here
Not to justify ignorance and rudeness, but the devs need the xda community as much as the xda community needs them. You really think that sharing a rom between friends will get the rom to a stable state anytime soon? Hell most of the roms shared on xda have thousands of users and they are still bugged...
If the dev wants his rom in a anywhere near useful state, then he needs the large pool or tests and bug reports that the whole xda community can provide, simple as that.

Laugh all you want, but altho I haven't had the urge to develop a rom yet, I can tell you that this is exactly like it went when I was the lead developer of one of the most used world of warcraft addons. You get (at times) stupid questions by lazy people, rude comments, etc, but without the reach of the wide community that debugs stuff it'd have not gotten anywhere. Hell even Google, Apple etc release software full of bugs that us the more experienced users find out and report back to them for fixing, you really think that a handful of developers can do better?

I am also a software developer. And I get what you're saying. You need your tester base to represent your entire user base to account for. use cases you might not see because you don't use the software that way.
This is also true for Roms. And that's where your analogy breaks. The only reason a Dev would need the community to test his ROM is to ensure that the rom works for the use cases of the community.
If all a Dev wanted was to make the ROM work for himself only, then he can test the feature himself. You should probably know, an average user is not skilled enough to be a constructive tester. A Dev would have an easier time testing for bugs himself for features he does use rather than chasing false flags by unskilled users.
To sum up, the involvement of the community in the rom building process is a predicated on the devs desire to make the ROM work for everyone. It is not a service everyone provides to the Dev.

If you look at rom like Purity (on gnex I've been using it since forever), 99% of the changelog bug fixes were reported by users, not the author himself. Whether those were bugs on features that the author wasn't using at the time, or didnt have enough time to debug himself, cause afterall this is a "night job", etc, etc is irrelevant really. In the end the author himself will benefit from a more stable, less battery draining, filled with more features that his users came up with, whatever, rom.

Its not irrelevant. It is exactly my point.
A weed is any plant that you don't want in your garden. If 99 percent of fixes in that ROM is user reported, it means the Dev was nice enough to go to those users' gardens and pull out their weed for them.
If a Dev doesn't have that plant in his garden, then classifying it as a weed or not is moot to the Dev. (This is a very apt methaphor but I can sense I'm explaining it poorly)
Any bugs the Dev didn't know about, its because its not pertinent to their use case. So they're doing the community a favor by fixing bugs that doesn't really matter to them, not the other way around.
If all a Dev wanted to do was to create a garden with only the plants he likes, then that's something he can do all on his own. The fact that a Dev would invite others to his garden, and take suggestions on which plants he should have is again a service he is providing to the community, not the other way around.

Some, but not all. If after release x.y the rom randomly exits out of loudspeaker it might mean that the author doesnt use loudspeaker ever, or simply that he didnt use it yet before another user did. It doesnt change the fact that maybe sooner or later he'll need to use it, and he'll be surely happier to be able to use it when that circumstance presents itself, rather than having an unknown bug preventing him.
Also sometimes bugs arent easy to reproduce so user input and data like logcats can speed up the resolution process a lot.
A ton of users are reporting and trying to pinpoint the battery drains in 4.4 xposed framework, I'm sure that the author will love his own phone's battery lasting longer.

If the developer of that mod, Is having the same problems, I guarantee you he is the most able to diagnose that problem.
The most likely scenario of course it's that he's trying to pull weed out of someone else's garden.
Running logcats is not testing. At the end of the day. The devs logs cats are equally useful, and ultimately, the dev has to sift through those logs.
Would you ever hire an unskilled person to be your qa? That would be horrible. You're gonna basically tell the guy everything he needs to do to the point that you're better off ding it yourself.
The only reason a dev would need others logs is to help then pull out weeds from other people's gardens.
Time for me to sleep but for anyone to claim that devs equally need users for a free product that they are providing is a laughable statement.
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
