I was one of the early pre-orders and received my Nexus 7 last Tuesday evening (7/17).
Like most users, I checked it out for problems: screen, mic, etc.
Everything checked out fine.
I did some customization, downloaded some apps, tried out all the new features.
Everything worked well.
I had connected it to my PC, no problems. Rebooted it, no problems.
After about 6 hours, I put my Nexus 7 to sleep (not shutdown) and
started to prepare to go to sleep myself.
After about 5 minutes or so, I decided to download one more app.
I tried to wake up my device -- and it would not wake up!
I tried a long press on the power button -- still no good.
Thinking maybe the screen had gone bad, I tried to connect
it to my PC to see if it could be recognized -- no good!
Yikes, could my Nexus 7 have died? I decided to try
to charge it, plugging the charger into the wall. No little
charging icon showed up on the screen
I decided to just let it charge overnight and see what happens.
The next morning, the Device still would not power up
I called google play and told them my story and they
said they would start the process of sending me a new
Nexus 7.
I started looking on the Forums, to see if anyone had
the same experience. Some people suggested that
I hold the power button down for 30+ seconds.
I tried, 30, 60, 90 seconds ... still no good.
Over the following days, while waiting for my RMA process to play out,
I would periodically pick up my Nexus and try the power button -- no good.
Today, 9 days later, on a whim I decided to again plug my device
into the charger. Believe it or not, the charger icon went on!!!!
After charging it for about 90 minutes, I booted it up and everything
was working again!
The replacement Nexus has not shipped yet, so I have a few days
to see if this problem occurs again.
My guess is that my device got into some hardware freeze situation.
The battery finally ran out of juice which caused the machine to
completely shut down -- which allowed me to re-charge it today.
Any other thoughts?
>Any other thoughts?
Maybe you can give the hidden reset button a try the next time?
NB: For the unfamiliar, a video teardown showed a reset button at top of the unit, but no hole through the casing to access it.

I did do that at one point. However, if I did it at a point
where the battery actually had run down I still would
have needed to re-charge the device -- which I did not
even try until today. Nice to know though.
I haven't had any issues with my nexus whatsoever thus far. I really hope these are anomolies.

Sounds like the ever so familiar sleep of death that occurs on custom Roms. It requires the reset button or let the battery die
I'm kinda glad I didn't get my Nexus 7 yet. LoL!! All these issues ppL are having.
So I bought the T-Mobile 8X on the 16th and today at worked it completely bricked. It was plugged in charging and all I did was hit the power button to see if I had any text and the screen wouldn't turn on. Have tried everything from removing and re-inserting SIM, holding power button with a variety of buttons for 15-20 seconds, etc. Seems the phone is completely dead. Has anyone else run into this issue? And are there any other suggestions on how to maybe get back on? At this point I don't care if I have to hard reset it. I just want the damn thing working again.
Thanks.

I'm telling you this not because I believe it's the case but still...
I have the HD7 (my Lumia 810 is due tomorrow) also made by HTC and for 7 months now it's been suffering from an issue where it would get stuck in charge mode after I unplugged it from the charger. The ONLY way to turn the phone off is to remove the battery. Holding down the power button, the hard reset combo (V+ V- and power), etc had no effect. Pulling the battery was the only way to use my phone. This happened maybe 40% of the time I unplugged the phone. What about the other 60% you ask? Well, half of that 60% the phone would behave normally until the next charge. But the other half of the time (this could be the scenario your phone is experiencing), it would appear normal until I'd get a text or an alarm would go off. Then I'd grab the phone and couldn't turn it on (in the alarm scenario, the alarm would be going off but I couldn't turn the phone on without pulling the battery.
Long story short, I'd read other accounts like this (most attributed it to a faulty micro usb port, but not sure if that was ever verified) and this was definitely one of the reasons I shied away from both HTC and from phones without removable batteries. My HD7 has been a bit annoying these last few months, but at least I could use the phone each day after a 30 second chore of removing the battery. If the HD7 had a irremovable battery I'd have been forced to ship it to HTC (out of warranty since it happened the 2nd year) and be without my phone for several weeks, if not longer.
That's good to know. I ended up going for an exchange. If this one bricks again it will be my last.
sounds like your phone was stuck in download mode. just hold both vol up and vol down for 2 minutes then press and hold power button while still holding vol buttons until phone vibrates. then the phone will power on.
My T-Mobile branded 8x has been in for repair 5 times. I've only owned it since April. HTC has escalated my ticket and are actually swapping the device. My most recent failure was exactly as you described...It happened about 1 day after I got it back from repair! I had it plugged into the car charger. I used the GPS of and on for my 2 hour drive. I got to my destination, unplugged it, made a phone call, and put it in my pocket. About 5 mins later, I pulled it out to make another phone call, and the screen was black. No combination of button holding would make it do anything... I then plugged it into the car charger, and it vibrated, showed me the HTC splash screen, went black, and then repeated that sequence. No amount of funky power-camera-volume button holding would get it to kick into any other mode.
Save your receipt. A lot of these phones were made in the december/january timeframe. HTC will need it eventually to "re-align" the warranty after the phone is past the date of manufacture.
Luckily, I picked up a Lumia 521 for $35 when Target had it mis-listed on their website.
If you are curious, here is my long history with my 8X:
1. Phone purchased mid-April, 2013. Brand new.
2. Phone quickly developed the "Peeling Edges" issue, where the rubber coating was wearing off around the edges. Sent it in for repair around Early November.
3. Phone worked great for two weeks, then started acting like the power button was randomly getting stuck down...phone would boot loop, I could enter various other modes by holding camera and volume buttons without touching the power button.
4. Sent it out for repair again. This time the touchscreen screen had a "Dead area" about 2/3 of the way down from the top.
5. Sent it in for repair AGAIN. This time it came back and everything was working fine. Then about a month later, the camera stopped working.
6. Sent it in for repair AGAIN. The unit I received back worked for 1 day, then died just like the OP's....
Hi, i have an Atrix HD and its LCD got broken when it fell from 3 ft high.
The Glass is ok and the phone kept working for a while with a black triangle on top, the touchscreen kept working with no problems.
After a second fall from the bed the LCD went completely black, but the phone kept working (using a HDMI cable to check messages and touchscreen vibrating feedback kept working so i could answer calls).
I let the phone battery die and now it wont turn back on, the charging light turns on, when i plug it on a USB port on Windows i get a connected beep followed by a disconnection beep, as if the phone were detecting the LCD not working and turning itself off.
Is there a way to bypass that? i need to connect the phone to get the files from the internal storage.
I ordered a new LCD but will take a long time to arrive (normally 2-3 months, sometimes longer since a live in Brazil).

Yes, also tried turning it on with the charger on and hdmi on as well.
Ok, i tried using mythtools but it acts as if the phone is not connected, same as above, windows reacts as if i was connecting and disconnecting a flash drive so the phone has some response.
anybody has any idea on what i could do?
Ok, the screen arrived, i installed it, but seems to have the same problem
Can someone please help me out here, when i connect it to the charger, the green light comes on, and then off, is my phone dead?

Always use what the phone brings on box as accessories. This case will be Moto original charger
Also by now you should be able to turn your device on. Just remove charger and re-plug again and try to turn your phone on

AHD and RHD batteries will work with the AHD. Remember, we do have the EB40 battery (RHD battery) mod that works with our device, and ours shipped with the EB20 (AHD battery).

Wow, i forgot the phone was there charging, after a week the alarm sounded, now it's turning on again, BUT the LCD is not, i tried disconnecting and connecting the lcd cable but did not solve it.
Another thing, after more than a week charging, only 17% charge, weird.
Maybe the LCD is not working? or the problem may be on the board.
I have this same issue. Except for the broken screen. My phone just stopped coming on. I did all the key combinations. Even opened it and removed the battery. Tested the voltage in the battery itself and it was fully charged. I tech on the Moto site told me it sounds to him like a LCD issue. I replaced the LCD and still nothing.
I plug my phone to the wall and get a green light for about 7 seconds or so. Then its off. A short time later,(couple min) it comes on again for a few seconds then off again. I plugged it to my PC and get the green light for the same seconds. The PC makes the chime that it would normally do when something is plugged into the USB. No changes done on the PC though. Doesn't try loading drivers or anything. After a few seconds, it chimes again and the green light goes out. Repeats about every 2 min.
Anyone found the issue?
I checked my watch battery level this morning about 8:30am. It was fine - 77%. I just mention that because at a little after 9:30 (or thereabouts) I raised my arm to check the time. The display didn't light up, so I pressed and held the power button for a long time - at least 20-30 seconds. No response at all. So I figure something happened to drain the battery really quickly and I somehow missed the warnings, so I put it in the charging cradle and plug it in. Still nothing. So I run the USB cord to a PC. The PC doesn't even see that anything is hooked up. I checked my phone and it said it was still connected to the Galaxy Gear. I disconnected the bluetooth and tried to reconnect, and the phone just kept trying. And trying. And trying. No error messages - including out of range, but no connection. I called Amazon, and they said they can't do an exchange, but if I send it back by tomorrow they'll issue me a refund. In a week or two.
Anybody have any suggestions besides just returning it?
Thanks.

If you are using the Stock Rom one of these should help.
Tap, Hold for 10 seconds
Tap, Tap, Hold for 10 seconds
Tap, Tap,Tap, Hold for 10 seconds
etc...
Some say to plug it into a usb port on a computer for 10 minutes and then plug it in with the original charger.
Use a Torx 5 screwdriver to open and disconnect battery and reconnect. (There is a good video on YouTube by JerryRigEverything).

I've only seen this issue on the Android OS, I believe it's a deep sleep bug. I'm running Tizen on mine and have not run into this personally.

Mine was also dead after buying.
Connect it to an USB cable on the PC ... and you'll have to be patient.

Thanks, but I was neither using the stock ROM nor was I not patient hooking it to the PC. Even though last check had shown battery power at 77%, when there was no display I left it hooked up to my PC for 6 hours while I slept. Still nothing. But, on a brighter note, even though it was 29 days, Amazon didn't give me any trouble at all about returning it and getting a refund. I called - and then sent them an email and they credited the purchase price right back to my card and told me just to ship the phone back by October. Think I'm gonna wait until payday and maybe get the Gear 2 though.
The tablet is dead, it was suddenly. Won't charge or turn on and it's not recognised by the PC. Recovery mode (power button + volume-) doesn't work either.
I know that is not the screen, because the PC doesn't detect the tablet at all. I tried with another battery (my wife has the same tablet), but I had no luck. I also know that the charger and the usb cable are fine.
What else I can do, any ideas or suggestions?

I had the same symptoms after disconnecting and reconnecting battery,I hed to disconnect it for like an hour and then three times try to power on the tablet and it did power on. Maybe your battery is dead so after another hour you may try to use the other battery. If it will work, try to connect the batteries together so the dead one can get a little charge (but do some research I am not sure if it won't have a chance to damage anything) then the same after an hour connect try power on and if it powers on immediately give it a charge.

Just wondered if you had tried this and if so, how you got on? Asking because I bought my daughter one off ebay and it was working fine when I got it, am sure I recharged it once , she played it and then again in morning and thinks she played it till battery ran out. I have since tried charging via pc and mains power, and have disconnected battery twice (case was v. easy to remove so concerned this fault may be reason it was sold), but cannot get a flicker of a response on screen. i got my daughter this as she was desperate for an android tablet for mods for minecraft as I had bought her a Amazon Fire 7 and from what I could see just after xmas, it wasnt possible to root it or sideload at that time, and she said Amazon had no mods compared to the play store and she had been ecstatic with the mods she had found for her android for the short time she had it. I do know when I plug it into the wall charger that the motherboard area gets warm if its been plugged in for a while? Bit of a noob on this stuff, and off sick with probs with my nervous system so my concentration and memory can be a pia. Anyway I was wondering how I can find out if its goosed or what I can try? One of the batterys advertised on ebay is about £50 which seems steep to me, esp. if it doesnt fix it, and esp since I have been unable to work for a few years cos of this illness. I only bought the tablets cos I had extra money after I finally applied and got pip, and got it backdated. Any recommendations for a reasonably priced option for her for her minecraft? Should I go the tablet\notebook type route or can they not handle minecraft? Bit confused by these new notebooks esp touchscreen ones as new ones seem to have small amounts of ram yet are v. popular.
Thanks for advice\thoughts\feedback and let me know if I should start ,y own thread...I only jumped on this to see how he got on and then as I do nowadays with this illness, I then jumped from topic to topic that jumped into my head x sorry x

Firt I would try to trickle charge the battery.
BEFORE YOU DO THIS:
Remove the SD CARD. I forgot to do this and snapped my card straight in half removing the back cover.
This started happening to my ME176 as well but of course not until after I retired it and gave it to my mom.
I would start by letting it sit on the charger for about 30 minutes (since we don't know the current charge state and if the overcharge block is functioning). This will give it a slight charge if dead.
Disconnect charger and remove the back cover and disconnect the battery (as posted earlier). Push and hold the power button a few times even though there is no power.
It may take a few tries of disconnecting and reconnecting the battery before it decides to power up, so keep the cover off while doing this.
