Second this, is not the same nice voice I had on my one x. Is there a way to change or download a different module?

Supposedly, should go to settings - controls - language and input - text-to-speech (TTS) options - Samsung TTS engine and press configure cog. Then install voice data and download high quality voice female, but it doesn't do anything (in my case just a popup window that says it will download and nothing else happens). Can you please check this on your device also? It might be a software bug

You have to have Samsung apps enabled.
At&t Note III...& At&t G Pro
I did that too and mine downloaded but still Samsung voice. On Google map it used to be more human voice .

Yup, same here. I want the Google voice, not the HD samsung voice.
I have this problem on my Huawei P6, and from doing reseach I believe it's the TTS. If you look at under language and input, there is no Google-Text-To-Speach engine, but instead just the Samsung one.
I still couldn't find a way to download (or where to download the app for that matter) the Google TTS engine.
I hope some can figure this out, because that Samsung voice is really annoying. The funny thing is, Google Now have the correct voice/sound.

in the text to speech menu under advanced samsung has HD voice downloads and they all sound really good. and there free
I took a peek on the link provided as far as a work around for this issue/annoyance, and seems like a lot of work.
Anyway, I've found an easier solution. You have to be rooted and have Titanium backup. Not sure if it will for everyone, but it sure works on my phone.
All I did was freeze the Samsung TTS engine, and like a miracle my Google maps now sounds wonderful (it use the Google voice/speech) now.
Let me know if this works for you guys.
I'm happy now.

This ^^^ /Agreed. That's probably why it's called voice guidance
Voice sound
Google's map navigation function is pretty better than apple's. It shouldn't be lead you to lost at a different location.
Is anyone else getting a terribly robotic voice from the Maps turn by turn gps? Normally it's the nice smooth voice from Google Now, but since I've been using it on my Note 3 it sounds terrible. Any ideas?

Is this Google Maps navigation, or some other maps app?
The Note 2's settings let you choose between text-to-speech by Google or by Samsung. Does the Note 3 have those options too? Which option are you using?

As Gary02468 mentioned, you have to go to the TTS settings in Language and Input. Then click on the settings on the Samsung TTS Engine and then download voice data. I guess in my mind what needed to be done was obvious.

Maybe it is an issue with my phone I go in the to the Samsung text-to-speech engine, go to install data, choose English High Quality, hit play sound exactly like what I want, hit download and nothing happens. It never changes to the high quality voice.

I got it to work. I had to go in and reset my app defaults and now it downloaded correctly. Thanks for the directions!
I don't think this is actually solved, at least not what op was asking for. OP was wanting the original Google TTS that is excluded from the phone's firmware for some reason. The fix that you see above was addressing someone else's issue not being able to download the high quality version of samsung's tts engine.
Yea I hope theres a way to add google's tts in the near future as well.

I am the OP and what I really wanted was to get rid of the terrible, robotic sounding voice. The Samsung HD voice works great for me so I changed the title to "SOLVED". If you guys want to make another thread on how to download the Google TTS that's cool, but as far as my issue is concerned, it's fixed.

I don't have an option to use SMS in Hangouts on my Moto X. Though the play store indicates I am on the latest version of hangouts because it does not give me the option to update, in fact my hangouts app indicates I am on version 1.2 instead of 2.0+.
Anybody have any ideas? Anybody else using SMS in hangouts on a Moto X?
Sent from my XT1053
I don't think the 2.0 version has hit the Play Store yet. You have to be on 2.0+ for the SMS integration.

So is the description in the play store simply wrong? It gives the change log for 2.0 which suggests to me 2.0 should be available. See screen shot below, taken just now with my stock T-Mobile Moto X.

Chances are they are doing a staged rollout. But if you don't have 2.0 on your phone, you won't have those features.
Anybody here with an X who CAN do SMS with hangouts?
Sent from my Nexus 7
I received 2.0 a few days ago. When you first launch it, it will ask if you want to import your SMS messages. After that it works fine for SMS, MMS, and Hangouts. It's a little confusing at first but you'll get used to it. If you have a hangouts conversation and an SMS conversation going on with the same person, they will appear as two separate threads. However, you can switch between them using the account selector at the top of either thread.

My messaging is still working fine, but my phone app seems temperamental now. When I make my call, I have to turn off my screen, count to 5, and then turn it back on to have in-call control. I also use Google Voice, but that hasn't seemed to have any impact.
