Facebook and whatsapp crashing - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi i have an s3 mini with stock firmware and facebook or whatsapp crash regular, then the phone starts to reboot and the phones battery is drained to almost zero. I did a reset and installed everything back again. But the same problem appears with Facebook or whatsapp. Is this because of a firmware update or a facebook app update. For the rest it works normal.

How did u disable fingerprint scanner?
Not disable just dont use it for lock screen. But today i still got 2 hickups but far less frequently.
This made me think that gmail app really makes the phone slow or drain battery.
Since the last 2 weeks everytime I flash new roms Im removing Gmail and use the Samsung email app...
My phone doesnt lag or i never encounter any fc or any apps misbehaving.
Maybe...

Xperia Problem

Hello there Xperia users. I have some issues with my phone and i will go for it now.
So, i have Xperia z1 c6902 and i have following issues
1.i am often using messenger by Facebook, but my phone keeps closing it over and over by time like once in per 35 mins, once it closes i am returning back to home screen which is.actually lagged, when i am pressing apps drawer key it needs around 15 seconds to load menu, it only happens when my apps are getting closed so it is so annoying i tough it was overheating problem but at all time when it occurs my phone is in normal condition, not even hot a bit, factory reset didn't brought any help for this issue, phone currently working on Android version 5.1.1 and 14.6.A.0.368 build version, any solutions? Sony is my favorite product but my phone is messing up with me over
You don't have issue with the phone. The issue is with Facebook messenger. I have C6902 and no Facebook messenger and nothing of this problem. Check out the Facebook messenger forums, maybe there are others like your problems.

Whatsapp does not work correctly

Phone: Sony Xperia Z5 (Android 6.0.1, rooted but nothing modded in whatsapp)
Watch: Asus Zenwatch 3 (Android Wear 1.5.0.3798981)
I can send Whatsapp Messages via Google Now without problems. But when I try to answer to a Whatsapp Notification, the watch is showing the green tick circle but the message has not been send.
I tried reinstalling Whatsapp and i've already checked the permissions on the phone, but it hasn't changed anything.
Does anyone know why it does not work?
Check your battery saver settings on your phone. Maybe this happens because your phone limits the network usage when it's locked.

I had the exact same issue. I recently upgraded to what was, at the time, the latest WhatsApp beta version (2.1.117) and since then, responses from the watch have gone through properly. There was an Android Wear app update on the phone around the same time, but I think the restored functionality corresponded to when I installed the WhatsApp beta.

But it happens even if Whatsapp is opend on the phone
Same problem here since the last update
Exact same issue here. It started when I updated my phone to Android Nougat. My guess that it is caused by the new way Nougat handles replies. I could be wrong and it could have been caused my some Whatsapp update. Telegram works fine though.
I was having the same issue with replies not working but new messages were fine.
This was only also happening in Whatsapp, everything else was fine.
Whatsapp support just sent me the standard useless reply showing they didn't even ready my email.
Just updated to the Whatsapp Beta version and now replies work from watch

Xperia Z1 apps crushed & Device restarts

My Xperia Z1 c6902 some apps. , mx player, messenger, facebook app, messenger lite, are autometicaly crushing & when I launched the apps the device got hangs & auto force restart the device.
I tryed factory data reset and also system repair from PC companeion. But it does not worked. When I reset the device it work well 2/3 hrs & then starts the problem.
What to do now.
I think i have the same problem now. As soon as device starts it freezes, gets unresponsive and then restarts itself. Problem started today. Dont know what to do.
Latest facebook app made the same problems on my device. As soon as any app that usess facebook login would start(instagram, tapatalk etc..), phone would crash. After uninstalling facebook and installing older signed version of facebook every thing works ok.
I've read that every Xperia Z1 user have the same problems.
For now I uninstalled facebook app and installed Facebook Lite and everything seems to be good.
However I cannot understand how could facebook hang the phone and restart it. Shouldn't Android kill fb app instead?
same with my z1
22th night was ok 23th morning was ok. after 10am i had the same issues. dont know if an update rolled through though.
also tried to repair through pc companion but still same issues. device crashed even in mid of backup session so i was not able to full backup. advice for those who are going through it now is to backup piece by piece at a time. dont try full backup at a time because it will freeze at some point anyway and restart, backup will freeze.

Same here, 23th afternoon instagram, facebook & Clash Royale can't be accessed.
Got freeze then force to restart.
I've done the factory reset twice and flash it using flashtool seems work as a brand new phone, but after running 3-4 the problem cameback.:crying:
As i said apps that use facebook login will crash with facebook installed. Use older version of Facebook(pre june), signed version or facebook lite.
all problems above is on my Z1 now , crashing and heating and facebook app cannot opening !

Hi all,
I have a similar problem with my Z1. But I don't have any issue with the Facebook app in my other phone (OnePlus 3T).
So, it may not be Facebook app in general. My Accuweather app also getting crashed quite frequently. Are there any updates for Xperia Apps recently?
Thanks

I'm facing the same issue... My device was working fine until 4 days ago, but then I went and updated the SU Binary Files.
After that, my device went into a boot loop.
I restored using "Sony My Companion", the device turned on (with factory settings) but it was presenting this issue...
I tried formating again with the same build, nothing changed.
Now I'm using the Kryptonian Custom Rom, but the same issue is still present...
Almost any app can cause the freeze>reboot. Alarm Clock Extreme, WhatsApp, some bank apps weren't working at all... I don't see how they are related to Facebook.
Just tried unninstalling Facebook and let's see what happens now...
EDIT:
Actually, believe it or not, but it seems that after unninstalling FB the issue went away.
At least I can create a new alarm now... I wasn't being able to do that before, app would crash 100%.
Same Problem Here
I had same problem my phone get crazy. Guys can someone made a download list for latest working version of apps. It can help us very well
You can found old version of apps here instagram.tr.uptodown.com/android/old
Hi
I had a same problem and the last stable version of FB is the 128.00.26.68.
Install it and there is no problem with Z1.
Hi y'all.
I have the same problem.
I've tried resetting my phone twice but the problem is still here.
Now I'm about to wipe my phone out of data than I'll tell you if it works or not.
Same problem with z1 compact users. Sony ****ed up something. Reinstalling system doesnt help either. I think problem is in crash monitor since it keeps crashing. Irony
same here, I'll try uninstall FB
I have this problem with Z1 and couple of Z Ultras, 2 out of 3 tested and fixed with uninstalling fb.
talk about planned obsolesence... imagine someone out there still using Z1 and not knowing about this, they might as well just think their phone broke and they need a new one... such a crazy bug
same thing happened to me after the 14.6.A.1.236 update

whatsapp notification push issue

Hello fellow note 9 owners....
I'm facing an issue when I close whatsapp and lock the screen I don't get notifications that I have new messages nor do they get delivered to me unless I open WhatsApp. I think I tried everything to fix it.... Here's what I tried
I put WhatsApp in the unmonitored app list in the battery settings, I'm in performance mode, I cleared cache, I uninstalled WhatsApp, reinstalled it fresh not from a restore. Is there anything else I should do to fix this?
Mine is okay so far (exynos) however, when I am connected to whatsapp web (on my computer, on the same wifi network with my note 9) , it'll lose connection to the phone at random intervals. I'd have to unlock the phone, launch whatsapp for whatsapp web to be connected once again.

I tried still the same problem
Got the same problem with both Whatsapp and Viber, and often with fb messenger.
It seems that I cannot fix it since I tried literally everything and yet, on my friend's note 9, everything is working flawless.

Have you put the app to sleep?
Same issue but for nearly all apps which require the internet for a notification. Only get the issue on mobile data, when connected to wi-fi all are instant.

Make sure you turn this off.
I also have the same problem i have tried a lot of solution but none works.
Changed Rom several times, using PNF-root to change heartbeat interval, uninstalled Universal GMS Doze, setting whatsapp as not optimized, deleted whatsapp and data.
Nothing just nothing have helped, im currently on syberia Rom xiaomi Mi5.
But i dont think its Rom related because i had the same problem on Xiaomi.eu ROM and other Roms
Thks for this tip as I was struggling to find the culprit despite knowing this was rhe issue I had it on by mistake.
This settings now are more buried on pie so forgotten this one.
EDIT: STILL HAVING THE ISSUE

Actually I thought it was solved by turning off the battery optimization (which it was on by mistake) and thought it was solved but tonight had again the same issue.
In the morning received only the notifications/messages after opening whatsapp.
I'm not sure if this options below might not also be part of the issue (despite not making sense but who knows...)
This might be a problem for people running Android Pie and One Ui on their Note 9s. I don't believe these problems existed on Oreo. Lets wait a see when an update will be pushed to fix this problem. Until then my wife's Note 9 is staying on Oreo.
For those of you that have updated to Pie how has it affected battery life? Better or worse? If better by how much? SOT Etc

When I got the note 9 the update for Pie was 3 days after so didn't have the chance to have it properly tested, but I think I had the issue on both versions.
This issue exists since Samsung introduced their device maintenance. Switching off batterie optimisation for WhatsApp was the solution for me. Actually only WhatsApp, threema and k9-mail have problems receiving push in standby on my phones, any other apps I use don't have this issue. Therfore I think it's more an issue with the apps, less with the rom. Also Samsung states in the settings that apps in standby may not receive actualisations or send notifications.
Go to stettings->apps->WhatsApp and turn off batterie optimisation
Before Samsung introduced this feature, I was using greenify and had the same issue with some apps.
Like I mentioned earlier. I had issues with Telegram and WhatsApp notifications on Oreo. Now on pie beta 3 no issues. Also my WhatsApp and telegram *are* battery optimized. So I'd say you should be looking at other avenues to remedy this problem. Maybe review the app notifications for whatsapps carefully.

The app notifications are flawless.
The issue is not the notifications, otherwise they would be there but just not being notified on the system.
Even when opening the phone and unlocking it, they are not on the phone, BUT when the app is opened you start actually receiving the messages in a fast manner flow almost like they are just being texted at a very fast pace, so it seems more like they have just been pushed rather than having the message there and simply not notified, otherwise would be having a static last message.
The app seems to be in sleep mode even when whitelisted.
At the moment I have absolutely everything off inside the optimization
The background mobile data is ON
IS even allowed while data saver is ON (Which I don't use anyway)
The sleeping apps, for whatsapp is whitelisted (OFF)
AND it still have the same issue, either the app is optimized or not optimized which does not make sense.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I have 1 note 9 with Gbwhatsapp and another note 9 with stock Whatsapp. Have issues on both.
One was updated to pie and then did factory reset and restored from cloud (unless the backed up settings somehow contributed to an error and other was just OTA updated without any reset. They even operate on different networks.
Seems pretty odd...
To me the app is showing exactly the same behavior as behaving like the list of "sleeping apps", despite the fact it's whitelisted.
