Hi, as the title says, what is the stripped ftf file containing? And what does it exactly?
To make a simple root to the phone isn't it enough to put any ftf on the phone via flashtool, and then open the bootloader, install a stock custom kernel and install with recovery afterwards the supersu.zip file? And then if you want close bootloader again?
I really don't understand what the stripped ftf is for? Could someone explain me that please?
And maybe the difference by this two methods?
Thanks to all.

So, the method i mentioned above, is the same as installing the stripped ftf? Is that correct?
But the ftf file contains a lot of .sin files and other such things. Wasn't it enough to put a .bin inside?
You should be happy that a Root exist on Xperias than Why and How. I think Developers did such a think for fun. ..lol.. I will do the same, never the easy way..

Because you cannot add anything to a FTF file. It all needs sony signatures. So you can remove files but not add them.

This post embodies what this forum is about, especially this bit
As a Development Forum we are just as much (if not more) about the journey. I've read so many comments like "I don't have time to read all of the threads" or "I don't care how it works, just that it does". These very statements are contrary to the heart & soul of XDA-Devs and that is why the backlash is so strong.
Let me be very clear on this: IF YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT UNDERSTANDING THE JOURNEY THEN YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T BE HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
XDA-Devs is about developers & hackers helping each other and working together to get the most out of our devices by understanding them better than most.
XDA-Devs is not about helping everyone who wants a "Kewl bit of kit" make their phone better than the guy next to him.

Gregbradley am i right with the method mentioned above? I could root any Sony upgrade di i unlock bootloader install an existing recovery kernel che supersu file and finally relock che boot leader?
Isnt this method a lot easier?
Inviato dal mio Xperia Z1 utilizzando Tapatalk
If you do that you will end up in a bootloop
If you relock the bootloader then your phone will only boot with a completely stock kernel. If you had flashed a kernel with recovery in (DooMKerneL or [NUT]s XZDR Kernel) then, although it is a kernel for stock firmware it is actually a customised kernel.
The easiest way to get root on stock 757 (With a locked bootloader) is as follows
1) Flash a 534 FTF
2) Install Dual recovery
3) Flash a 757 pre rooted rom of your choice.
The easiest way to get root on a stock 757 (With an unlocked bootloader) is as follows
1) Flash a stock based kernel (DooMKerneL or [NUT]s XZDR kernel)
2) Flash SuperSU.zip from chainfire
So if i am on 757 and ubl and then relock bootloader i will end up in a bootloop?
Don't really understand why?
My feeling is that with ubl the battery drains faster. When i had 680 i came up for 1 day with battery. Now i don't come over 15h. Si that just placebo?
Che nuts root method works for lbl and it uses a doomkernel. So where's the difference?

You will be in a bootloop only if you have flashed another kernel other than stock
If you are on stock kernel you will not get a bootloop. The reason being, locked bootloaders can only boot with a stock kernel.

Yes, bootloader status has no impact on performance or battery drain, only flashing a custom kernel with OC/UC/UV can do that

No it doesn't. Locked bootloader cannot even flash doomkernel, let alone boot with it
Bit i can have root with lbl. So this is the difference i am missing.

Because unlocking the bootloader is only one method to gain root, there are a lot of other ways that do not need you to unlock the bootloader, like the one I said above

Its a pleasure talking with a patientefull guy like you.
So the stripped ftf is only the kernel. Then the question should be why don't insert the kernel directly in the flashable zip like in the cm or slimkat instead of heaving to flash it afterwards? Is it because with closed BL you cannot overwrite the kernel in recovery?
Oh and btw the root method with obl is not so good explained in the guides.

Well, this method does not really need much explaining, its the main root method for any android device.
Flash a custom kernel with ro.secure=0 instead of ro.secure=1, then install the superuser binaries etc.
It is mentioned in doomlords thread. And all over the general threads. In this device forum we generally just talk about methods for this device, not general methods that work for all devices
If in doubt, flashing a custom kernel is always the easiest way to get root, as long as you can open or want to open the bootloader.
So i don't understand if unlock BL is the easiest way to obtain root why are so few making it?
Inviato dal mio Xperia Z1 utilizzando Tapatalk
Because not everyone can unlock their bootloader. Some carriers have locked the bootloader in a way that means its impossible to unlock.
Also, it voids your warranty, and some people want to keep it.
And, the other way without unlocking the bootloader, only takes 5 minutes anyway, so its not really a pain.

Yes, unlocking the bootloader is the only way to flash custom kernels, which also happens to be a fool proof way to gain root on every android device on any android version. The only way to patch that is for the carriers to lock the bootloader in a way that means it cannot be unlocked.
However, [NUT]s rom uses a stock kernel so can be flashed on a locked bootloader, you only need root for that.

Hey guys, so I updated my phone here and I'm trying to root the phone. I have search the web for question but none. So, I decided to do the old method way. Can I use the 4.2.2 (2.67).tft flash it to the phone and root it. And then flash back to the 4.3 (.569).tft. Thanks. Also please provide me with some links for the root.

Please use the search guys, this has been discussed in many threads all over here and the general section ever since 4.3 was released.
Currently, the only way to root after you have already flashed 4.3 is to unlock your bootloader and flash DooMLoRD's advanced stock kernel.
That's it, until somebody finds a way to root with a locked bootloader and that doesn't mean you have to post asking for it. Once someone has a breakthrough, they will publish their work here for certain.

If your bootloader is unlocked you can try this. It worked for me.

So, basically exactly what I already said. Flash DooMLoRD's advanced stock kernel and flash a superuser zip.
No need to give page views to yet another website that just reproduces guides/work of XDA members.

I'm not sure why you revived this thread that is several months old to post that.
Firstly, it's just a reproduction of information from a couple of DooMLoRD's threads from here and here on XDA.
Secondly, it directly links to his files, which is a no no.
Thirdly, there are also direct links in that article to unofficially hosted versions of Androxyde's Flashtool, which is also not polite.
Please don't push page views to places that do things like that. Thanks.

Hi Guys
I have unlocked the bootloader before rooting.
Now I am confused on how to proceed since nothing like this was described here.
I am using a C6906 and a tft that is not present on the site.
Thanks.
Just flash a custom kernel.
If you are on 14.2.A.1.136 firmware and just want root and recovery, you can consider DooMLoRD's kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2632808
Else, pick the appropriate kernel from the Android Development or Original Android Development sections.

It looks good.
However how do I bring back the features you mentioned. In the thread is mentions to install only one zip while in the original thread there are two zip files. You on the other hand mentioned 3 things. I am a bit confused.
In addition, since I did not change any rom yet, why cant I export my TA?
Saving your TA must be done before you unlock your bootloader.
I can't help you on the files that will bring back those features. You should post your questions in that thread.

Hello Everyone,

It's this possible? someone is kind enough to tell me the steps or link to do it?!
Thanks to all in advance for help and sorry, but I'm a beginner and i don't want to do damage..
1) Flash a FTF ending in .534 (Find the relevant files and instructions in the mega collection thread in the general section)
2) Install dual recovery (Find the files and instructions in the cross device development thread)
3) Flash a Rom of your choice (You will find the files and instructions in the development thread for stock based roms and in the priginal development thread for custom roms)
There is no need to back up your TA unless you are unlocking your bootloader
There is no need to unlock your bootloader is you using stock based rom.
If you do want to backup your TA then use the TA backup tool found in the cross device development thread. Do it any time after installing dual recovery and before unlocking your bootloader
Follow link today i rooted my.757

Dear All,
First i thank you for you huge contribution to human needs in this planet ! You Rock dear community.
I'm more a reader than a contributor in most forums, i usually find the answers only by searching other people posts, but this time i couldn't find an answer .
I have an Xperia Z1 C6903, Vodaphone (i guess from spain), running Kitkat 4.4.2 with latest firmware 14.3.A.0.757.
I was trying to root it, i red practically all the methods here in the forums & elsewhere, and there was always one step that i couldn't bypass : UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER.
I took my code from Sony website, i tried many methods in vain. In my Phone it shows of course : Bootloader unlocking allowed : NO
My question is very simple : Is there on earth (even on other planets i can take the trip) any method to unlock my bootloader ?
Thanking you All in advance, and apologizing if this question is already answered in another topic, i really couldn't find it.
Awaiting your Help Dear Community.
Best Regards,
NO! There is no way to unlock it, there is no way around. Sony will generate the Code from your IMEI anyway but if will not work. Do not even try on Earth to find a way because there is not.
There is absolutely no need to unlock the bootloader in order to root.
Which is good news for you because you cannot unlock anyway.
In order to get root on the latest firmware then you just need to follow the link in my signature

once or twice
Just follow the 3 steps in the link
There is no need to unlock the bootloader, no need to backup TA partition (You only do that id you are unlocking the bootloader anyway), no need to use any dodgy rooting methods (Like Vroot etc)
Flash a 534 FTF
Install dual recovery
Flash a pre rooted rom
Takes about 10 minutes

Done ! The method worked for me, my Z1 is fully rooted now even with my locked bootloader ! Thanks again
Only, and for those reading this post, specially Xperia Z1 C6903 owners, for step one you have to pick a specific FTF file and not any FTF ending with 534, The only one working (and gaining you Root access later on the process) is FW 14.1.G.1.534
Although you are on a recent FW, don't worry, after accomplishing the other steps, you will be back to the latest one.
N.B i tried many of the FTF ending with 534, but it didn't work except for FW 14.1.G.1.534
Cheers.

Well my problem is the following: I would like to root my Xperia Z1 and have the latest KitKat Rom, nevertheless I like using Vodafone's stock Rom as it includes Vodafone Wallet app, which allows me to pay with my phone using NFC. The problem appears because it's not possible to use Vodafone Wallet app on a Rom which is not original from vodafone, but I don't find any .zip fle which includes a rooted version of vodafone's 14.4.A.0.118 rom.
My question is, could anyone make a zip of that rom which is already rooted, deodexed and so?
Tank you in advance, Axel.

Why don't you root your, Vodafones firmwares?
Deodexing is very simple as well...
You have tool for it in cros section.

Root it
Install recovery
Extract files with that deodexing tool to your PC
Deodex them
You'll get flashable zip
Flash that zip

There are some issues on some fw, yes.
Try to ask @Ben Ling what changes he did in scripts to avoid bootloop.
You'll have to change few lines, nothing complicated but I don't know which one...actually I can't remember.
You have my post on that thread
Try to fix those line and then try.
