Most people who have updated should have already read by now that it's possible to retain root thru the update. I've seen at least 4~5 guides within threads on how to do this already.

Exactly, I just rooted, upgraded, and rooted again not more than 20 minutes ago.
I installed this update on Wednesday and rooted fine yesterday with no problems.

Yes, mostly everyone that have followed the directions and know what they are doing have had success. I was one that upgraded first and didnt have any issues and havent had any since.
The update keeps failing for me after root. Any ideas?

OP = Original Poster (The person that creates the thread)
Just a video I put together showing how to root the Galaxy S4! I will be adding more videos to this thread in the near future!

I used CF Root.

Is this one good to work with root apps or does it cause that issue with root access on this one?
QB never disappoints. Great job and thanks!

Hey @qbking77, Could you put in your OP which method you used please? Moto or CF's Autoroot?
Thanks!
:edit: I need to add why I'm asking - We have had a report of Motochopper not letting an app that needs root function properly where CF's Autoroot does. Being that it's early in the game, people may want to know this. I understand that CF has a disclaimer using the autoroot method but it's still a viable solution with the numbers coming in on successful. I do not believe we have had a failed attempt on Sprint devices. (Please correct me if I'm wrong)

I used motochopper. If anyone has issues with an app, just install busybox from the play store.

I understand, I was just asking for that in the OP since most skip the rest of conversations. No rudeness intended.
Does this work with the latest OTA? I heard one was pushed today.

Hey Tim,
Any know how on how to use for a Mac?
Thanks
Thanks for the video. I did get it to work though I ran into an error. It said that more than 1 deviced or emulator detected. I exited Bluestacks, pdanet and the Galaxy streaming server. After closing those programs, I ran the batch file and it was successful. I'm sure that bluestacks caused the issue. Just a warning for those using this program.
Any word on whether this works with the newest firmware update?

I'm not sure if anyone has actually received the update yet.
Just got it, took a quick stop at the house. Rooted. Worked like a charm. Make sure you have nothing like bluestacks running. Like a previous user has stated. I was having issue till I made sure everything else was off. Even pdanet
I just flashed I537UCUBMI2, this is the first 4.3 for i537, but I found I can't root it! I can't remove the AT&T software and add Chinese language.
I was just want to give up, lucky, I use one Chinese software called “ROOT大师”, you can just search "VRoot" with Google. Now my phone is rooted, and I have removed all the annoying software.
Good luck.
Can you provide a link for this root method and a tutorial on how you used it? This way there is no confusion for anyone. I for one would appreciate it because I've been on mf1 for months now and have wanted to flash the mi2 leak but I've been waiting patiently for root.

Sorry to reply late, because I am in China.
I will show you the steps in brief.
1. Just flash leaked I537UCUBMI2
2. Go to setting, enable the USB debug. Just like other Android 4.X phone, I noticed we should tick always enable to connect to this computer.
3. Install the "root master", this is a Chinese software, maybe something can't display correctly in non-Unicode computers.
Software download:
REMOVED
After install this software, open this software, connect your phone to your computer, maybe need to install some drivers.
4. Just simply click "一键ROOT", the green button, the phone will restart 2 times, and after that, your phone is rooted.
After your Phone is rooted. The software will show:"三星I537已经拥有ROOT权限“
Sorry, because I cannot post pictures. Just follow the steps, you can make it.
Thanks for replying. I've got everything downloaded and I will try tomorrow after I get off of work. Thanks again.

Be wary of these Chinese root methods. They are known to collect your IMEI number which is not needed for a rooting process. Therefore XDA has not allowed any links to their software at this time.l

Thanks for the heads up. I figured something wasnt right about this. When i searched for this root method every site that i had found was in Chinese which made me start to think about it. Another thing that makes me wonder is that we have had this leak for awhile now and no one else has had success with root and then out of nowhere this pops up. Plus the op doesn't have very many posts here on xda. In going to play it safe and wait on something else.

Rooted anyway. 4.3 is much faster than 4.2.2. Samsung keyboard is better but still doesn't match up to real Swype imo. Battery life is remarkably better. 22 hr 40 mins with 23%. 2 hr 43 mins screen on time. Always died on me before. Seems more stable overall but watchon is broken for me.

Actually piracy is not the most important thing for me. May be this software will collect IMEI or other information, but I think they will not do anything bad, the built-in software is more annoying for me.

Did you use the chinese software?
Kingo root method would probably be better for you than Vroot. Kingo has responded to XDA's request to remove the IMEI collection...it just not has been confirmed but they have always kept communication open with XDA.
Yes I used the Chinese software.

I didn't even look I just installed SuperSU over it. Works perfectly.
I flashed the 4.3 leak and rooted using vroot. I replaced the superuser app with supersu. I'll report back in a few days if I run into any problems.

I asked some expert, the Chinese root method use the "Master Key", by using this bug, almost all Android 4.3 devices can be rooted easily.

Thanks for suggesting Vroot, tried it on friend's S4 active and worked like charm. Although it installed unnecessary app to manage data when connected to PC which i removed using titanium.

I tried it and it works good. After I rooted it I downloaded SuperSU and ROM Toolbox pro and froz VROOT so it wouldnt come back and try something. No problems running AT&T SGH-I537 4.3.3 rooted...
Anybody tried to put some other ROM? I'm not experienced, just have CWM installed, and ask is there any logic to try? Or maybe just pass

There are no Roms yet. Recovery was just developed this week and its still only viable on 4.2, won't work for kit Kat yet. People are working on things (Roms and possibly updating the recovery at some point) though

You can currently root MJ5 and NB4 with Kingo. NC2 is still currently not able to be rooted.
Don't forget the SEARCH feature.
There are countless threads about this.
