Messed up baseband - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I need urgent help. I was trying out different ROMs and Kernels for my device, at the end decided to restore the TWRP backof my initial SlimKat installation. I also applied MEOW Kernel, upon boot I found that the device was not recognising any network. The baseband version is showing "unknown".
can anyone tell me how to get back the appropriate baseband for this setup? Last I remember I applied the ftf file for SuperHanss's stock ROM; that had a baseband within it.
Btw network was fine while SuperHanss's ROM was running. It was WiFi that was causing issues.

So I managed to fix the baseband issue. It had nothing to do with baseband.
I honestly do not know exactly what happened, now it is working, but Meow Kernel is not getting accepted anymore.

[Q] Baseband unknown after flashing to Froyo

At first, sorry for - in a way - repeating myself, as chunks of my problem are spreaded across some other posts. However I still haven't managed to solve the problem and haven't received any working solution I've decided to create a new thread.
I would really like to taste some of the sweet of Doc's Froyo ROM but my SGS is refusing to cooperate with any Froyo version. Originally it is DTJG4 (JM8 works without any problems). The trouble starts with any Froyo version, as every attempt to flash results in baseband unknown and no IMEI. Recently I used the Doc's v8 and still got the baseband unknown and no IMEI, however this time I've checked and the /efs folder is untouched.
Tried already:
-JG4-Doc Froyo v7 and v8
-JG4-JM8-Doc Froyo v8
-JG4-JM8-JPM
-JG4-JP6
-JG4-JM8-JP6
Am I really stuck with JG4 ?
same here....have tried all the methods i have searched but still no luck! ><
waiting for any new solution...
I think it means the modem.bin was not flashed (or flashed incorrectly) to your device. This happened to my Captivate when flashing a new ROM. Pull the modem.bin out of the ROM you are flashing and flash the modem using Odin v1.3.

Actually I haven't tried taking the modem out of the ROM, however several times I have flashed just the modem using both, ODIN and CWRecovery. It is just a stubborn bastard that won't get the Froyo running .. it makes me frustrated

Am I really stuck ? .. As the carrier and samsung are delaying the official Froyo update from month to month, I'm starting to lose hope that my phone will ever run Froyo .. There must be a way !
have you tried just flashing the modem file? I think doc's thread has a bunch of modem packages you can use..
I have a similar problem and flashing the modem still leaves you with baseband unknown. I have yet to find a solution for this either.
Mine now works fine
so what was the cause - still no idea
so what did help - rebooting the phone couple of times without the sim inside
heads up !
I have been experience this problem as well, and it seems to be a quite common problem when flashing froyo. But I think I have found a solution to the problem.
For some reason the nv_data.bin is changed during the flashing process, so that the phone can not read the imei. Therefore the phone / modem / baseband is not started correct. I loaded an old backup of the nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5 (there are threads on this forum how to do that) and then it worked again.
But the question is what is happening when flashing? My product code is still readable in the nv_data.bin. And when I go back to 2.1 everything works again. From my testing, this happened with every 2.2 and 2.3 version I’ve tried.
Does anyone know what is changed when flashing froyo in the nv_data.bin? Why is this only happening to some of us? For your information I loaded froyo half a year ago via kies and a register hack which changed my product code. To solve that I reverted back to the .bak files. Maybe I did something wrong back then?

[Q] Emergency Calls Only after CM install?

I've spent the last few days trying to figure this out without any luck. I have GT-S5830D (Canadian Koodo version) on stock firmware TLKI4, unlocked with SpeakOut sim (which operates on Rogers network).
Android Version: 2.3.4
Baseband Version: S5830DTLKI4
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-perf-CL568978 [email protected] #1
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.DTLKI4
PDA: S5830DTLKI4
PHONE: S5830DTLKI4
CSC: S5830DTLSKI4
In this stock firmware, I have no issues at all. Everything works fine, can place calls, WIFI, GPS, data all works. If I flash a new rom to the phone, I can see the networks still show up with signal strength showing okay, but the phone will not place calls. Just says Emergency Calls Only.
I've been reading about everything I can about this phone, and I just can't figure out what the problem is. I have flashed the modem with DDKQ7 and I was able to again place calls, however with this modem firmware, the connection was very unstable and would drop frequently.
Is there an issue with directly updating the stock rom to CM7 or CM9 that would cause problems with this baseband? I was under the impression that baseband wasn't really important. Interestingly enough, I have another phone that is the same make and model and is not experiencing this problem. I feel there must be something I am missing, if anyone can shed some light on this, I would appreciate it.
Thank you.
I have a feeling that I may be the only person that has experienced this issue. Continuing to search the internet for other answers, I've discovered that the baseband is the cause of this issue, but I still don't quite understands how it relates. My other phone is on the stock firmware (TLKI4) and is running CM7 without issue, on the same network even.
Do the APN settings have effect on voice calls too? Or is it strictly for data?
Also, I read a post on here that sounded like there was a limit to how many times you can perform a complete flash with Odin? Is that true? I'd love to keep experimenting, but each time to roll back the stock firmware, I need to use Odin and I'm hesitant due to the thought that will eventually brick the phone.
Thanks again.
tried to flash cm7 again??
Yes. I have installed cm-7.2.0-cooper.zip as well as some of the nightly's and still only get emergency calls only. I have another phone, exactly the same setup, and it works without issue. I even tryed GalaxyICS-latest and the same problem.
Now I did install a different modem firmware, and performed the upgrade and I don't have the issue anymore, however I have other issues, dropped service, 3g doesn't work properly, wifi and mobile data won't switch, gps is has extremely long lock time if it locks at all.
Does anyone here have the D version of this phone from Koodo? Which modem firmwares are you using? Anyone specifically using the phone on SpeakOut? Any hints would be helpful because I'm completely at a loss, will just have to keep it stock until I can figure it out.
I had the same problem as you, don't worry though because there is a solution. The Koodo Samsung Galaxy Ace only receives a signal when using the original Koodo baseband. (Basebands have to do with wireless signal, sometimes referred to as modems.) The good thing for you is that you can use any ROM or firmware you like, as long as after installing it you flash the original Koodo baseband (S5830DTLKI4) using Odin. I found a download link for the baseband in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1381595
After downloading, (I'm assuming you know how to use Odin, if not you can find a guide easily) open Odin, and in the "Phone" section browse to the file and select it. (You will have to extract the ZIP) Then press start and wait until it is finished downloading and that should do the trick. If you need any more help post back because I know what a pain it is to try and get this particular phone rooted and install a custom ROM.
ALSO MAKE SURE TO BACKUP IN CLOCKWORK MANAGER BEFORE FLASHING THIS
cause you never know what can happen.
If I flash CM7, it still shows my baseband being the same. It doesn't appear to have been changed. So what I need to do is flash CM7 and then just reflash the baseband with Odin and it should work? Even though the baseband shows the same? I'll give it a shot and let you know how it works out, but does anyone know why this would be required, to have to reflash the baseband even though it was never changed?
Is your current baseband S5830DTLKI4? Because in my experience that's the only way I could get service unless I was on the Koodo stock ROM.
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA
Yes, that is the firmware that I'm on. That firmware was installed with the stock rom that the phone came with and I have not changed it. Although I have changed it before, it fixed the issue with getting 'emergency calls only' in CM7 but the service was so flaky it wasn't worth keeping as a solution. If I leave the firmware from stock DTLKI4 and flash CM7 over it, I end up getting stuck with emergency calls only problem.
Is the current official CM7 not compatible with DTLKI4 firmware? Could that be the problem I'm having? I'm still really confused why this isn't working, but I will try to install CM7 again, and then use Odin to flash the DTLKI4 on top to see if the install is causing any issue with it. It doesn't really make sense.
Alright, interestingly enough, I just flashed it again and all is working as expected. I've flashed this phone about 10 times, using the same files and it would not work.
This time however, what I did differently is not root the phone. I've been using the universal_gb_root_v20.zip to root the phone previously, but I found that rooting before installing CM is waste of time as root is enabled in the CM7 rom already.
Also, when I flashed the stock rom with Odin, it usually used selected the KDO CSC automatically, last time I flashed it came up with TLS CSC and had the Telus branding. I don't know if that made any difference. All I know is that it worked and I am able to make calls and use data without any problems.
Thank you Dynamic_Apple, although your recommendation was not required, it did give me the motivation to try again and that was enough to get it working. I've never had so much difficulty modding a phone in my life, especially a model that I have messed with before.
Glad I was able to help, I had just as much trouble getting mine modded too, it makes me jealous of all the generic Galaxy Ace owners, but it's good to know that you can actually get past Koodo's sneaky limitations.

wifi problem - just reflash kernel and wifi will work ..
for baseband - if you can call that is not poblem with "unknown baseband", i have unknown baseband and everything work good
I'm not familiar with the ROM you flashed, but most likely what you experience is due to incompatible baseband and RIL. When you flash a ROM the baseband remains the same, so you are still on an old GB baseband, but your RIL is made for ICS. Flash a v30 baseband and things should work again. See the baseband overview thread here.

[Q] Can anybody make a "csc" file for the kitkat?

I had my SM-N900A running fine after i got the update from samsung and lost my kingo root access and it somehow messed up my phone. after playing with the phone a whole lot i can flash kitkat on it. but no matter what i flash or whatever i can not get any type of network. it just weird. i know the csc file supposed to be the network and region operator file. but somehow, someway i can not get any other file for csc except for the MI9. which always failed with that bootloader update that came now. phone is working fine on kitkat it's just that i have no network access. not even the 'ATT' logo won't show up. i went to mobile network under setting and click on it. no success. any help would be appreciated
Can you tell me what your baseband says in the settings menu?

Sorry for the late reply.
Just as I expected, you will need to flash your modem back.
Go here and use the NC2 modem.

I don't really know but I don't think my problem is baseband problem cause I'm running "MLG" rom but when i flash modem/baseband version other than this "mlg" it shows unknown baseband version. Only "MLG" modem is recognized and somehow there's all sort of stuff wrong with this roms/or with my phone. I got that circle sign thingy with the slash in the middle showing I don't have any network at all. Idk... I'm running into all sort of weird stuff with this phone.any full wipe/cleaning with brand new roms or whatever would really help. I just want the phone to make phone calls. Phone is kinda working fine when I flash other modem in it (NC2) (can't make phone call though) but it doesn't recognize the baseband version. Here is another picture with the MLG baseband which it recognized but no network though.
baseband unknown and imei null

I don't think a csc file is what you need...NC2 is official KitKat, your buildnumber ends with MLG, which means you are on the leaked build of KitKat. Both are 'KitKat', but they're are different firmwares...based on the problems you've described here I think your problems are coming from mixing pieces of MLG and NC2 together. It sounds like you may have some experience with odin from flashing modems, I think the easiest thing to do is to do a full flash to NC2 to clean your system up. This will get rid of the signal issues caused by different modems and you'll have the full NC2 firmware (bootloader, baseband, recovery, etc) for a solid foundation to flash custom roms on
Obligatory warning: once you flash official NC2 you are locked to it and you can NOT downgrade to anything with a lower build number - anything with MLG, MJ5, MI9 is out unless you really really really know what you're doing so definitely read up on that if you're not sure and decide if it's something you want to do.
If it is, it's easy as pie all of the NC2 files you need to flash via Odin are in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/n900aucucnc2-odin-files-t2838117
If not, I'd still recommend reflashing full firmware...just MLG though

Not sure what you mean by ime, but a clean flash to NC2 fixex pretty much everything!
I am by no means an expert in all this, definitely read all of the warnings that the devs put in their threads!
Hope that helps and you get your Note sorted soon!
has anyone solved this problem?

[Q] Unknown Baseband/Null IMEI (D415) Cllosed Thread

I have experienced a BIG problem with my D415. I was flashing a CM12 ROM when I noticed that once it turned on, I had no signal. WI-FI does work though. I then thought it was a system defect. I decided to flash another ROM and the same thing happened. So then I decided to format /system and THEN install a different ROM. It did not work. When I flash a fully stock ROM through LG flash tool, I noticed that there was also no signal. I went into the software information section of about phone and I noticed that my Baseband version is unknown. I go into the status tab and I see under everything is unknown.
My SIM Card is inserted properly. I think it is a defect with the EFS partition.
EDIT: I found old backup files of the modem partition and flashed them! Thread Closed
