Does anyone know if there is a way to achieve root with R/W disabled on 4.4.2? The reason why I want this is because I heard that xposed installer survives a soft reboot... and thats all I do anyway. Anybody have ideas?
If you are already on 4.4.2, then sadly no. You're stuck.
If you haven't updated yet, then yes...there's a way now.

Yes you could unlock boot loader and root a dev edition on 4.4.2....but even it can't downgrade. Lol

i understand. but realize if we update to 4.2 somehow, the bootloader will still be locked, and the exploit we just used up will be patched. so no root unless you use ota rootkeeper. and hope to never need a replacement phone lol
hi,
I can't post in the developer sections, so a question here:
Has anyone rooted their UK moto X yet? Comes with 4.4.2
the motorola chat said they expect we'll be able to unlock the bootloader but I'm not holding my breath.
But rooting? Yes please!

as of right now there is no root for 4.4.2 so you have to wait and see if someone finds a way to get root
or wait and see if you can unlock your bootloader.

Did you paste the numbers in one line correctly? I've heard others getting invalid responses when the numbers aren't in correctly.
Otherwise, I just followed the instructions here:

good luck!

Sorry to say but the answer is no. There is no known root path or exploit available to the public at this time for 4.4.2. The only option is an unlocked boot loader.
no downgrade to 4.4 possible?
no... bootloader in 4.4.2 is different from 4.4. check the threads... there's been many failures of bricked devices because of it.
unlock the bootloader. go pay that chinese guy the $40'ish bucks for the unlock code. got my code overnight. straight up and legit.
aldouse's info is correct.
I would just add one thing... paying ~$40 on the Chinese site selling unlock codes appears to no longer be an option. Seller is not responding. And rumor is that Moto caught up to the person.
Aw man I wish I knew about that seller while it worked. I would of loved to have done that. Looks like were SOL now OP

Yup. Unless you can sell your X on swappa, craigslist, ebay, etc... and use the money towards buying a Developer Edition X for Verizon.
Well, thanks for the help guys. If anything does come up please let me know. Thanks!!

No root ain't so bad on the x.
I think I have an idea for obtaining root on it...kind of use the stock recovery as the exploit

Oh, @Trpik4 btw, the Chinese Website/Middleman is back. See -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/china-middleman-t2751177
Honestly I haven't found a reason to root this device, it runs amazing. Probably the only thing I would end up doing it blocking ads and that doesn't support the content creators

Not straight up and legit. Stolen codes from moto! You want unlocked and root buy a ****ing developer edition. If everyone bought developer editions maybe carriers would be more likely to offer unlocked.

You'll not say so if you're in China. :crying::crying:
I need to use Xprivacy to enable google now and location logging.
That's tooooooooooooooo sad. So I kept using 4.2.2 and wanna get a dev. ed MOTO X+1.

An exploit is highly unlikely. The Moto X bootloader is extremely secure. You may be able to get unlocked through the china middleman - see that thread for details.
Just bought one myself..great phone would love to root it.

You can root it now - see the PIE thread. Unfortunately, this is a partial root - no write access to /system and no custom recovery. Root is lost upon reboot and must perform procedure again. Still useful for things like Xposed and WiFi Tether....
The better option is to try to unlock the bootloader. Since you are using at XT1058 (I'm guessing AT&T branded?) your only option is the china middleman.
Good Luck

Sorry for the noob question but figured couldnt hurt to ask lol , thanks
Hello
Hello,
Rooting is simple by using the Motorola website.
Unless I don't understand your question correctly.

Not everyone has a Dev edition, or an unlockable version. Those on AT&T and Verizon (and a few others) are unable to get BL unlock codes from Moto's unlock website and hence have to use other methods (such as the PIE exploit)

No. If you were still on 4.4 (with WRITE protection disabled), you could 'run' a 4.4.2 safestrap stock-based rom, but if you are on 4.4.2 there is no write protect disable exploit available. No write protection disable exploit = no safestrap = no custom recovery. Sorry.
I guess I forgot that not everyone has a developer edition.
My bad.
