What exactly did you do?
I'm guessing you have checked your phones android version already?
Why not just check it on the phone thru settings>general>about phone>update center

This has nothing to do with the problem. When I want to update the PC Suite only from 5.3.16 to 5.3.17 (which was necessary to check for updates) I got the above mentioned error. But I could fix this by uninstalling the PC Suite and reinstalling it via the smartphone menu when connectiong to USB,

The original post says they want to check if there is an update for 4.4.2, so one way to check for 4.4.2 is thru the phone.

I'm ALWAYS getting the error when trying to update the PC Suite, have tried in 2 computers, I really don't know how to get it to work. Can you please tell me how you did this?? Thanks!
I was successful when I deinstalled the PC Suite and then connected my phone to the PC and when it gives you the option to install the software from the phone it downloaded the new version from the internet.

I have the LG G3 and that option is no longer present, the one where you chose in pc connection settings "LG Software" and it installs it from the phone to the PC I can't figure out a way to fix it, I've tried everything.

Can you explain please exactly how you did it? I don't have the option to install it from the phone itself, I think this was removed in the G3. I've tried in 3 different laptops and all show the same error.
Edit: finally got it working, it was my antivirus (Bitdefender) that was being an issue. Thanks.

Hi
I wanted to update to the lastest firmware. I already have the 2.2 firmware, but that is the one, which was pulled back.
I have this firmware info: PDA: I9000XWJP6, Phone: I9000XXJPM, CSC:I9000XEEJP4 and it's rooted using the OCLF, which btw deleted all my music/pictures on the internal SD. Weird...
I can't get Kies to connect to my Phone and I have tried everything. Reinstall drivers and what not. Both on a XP and a Windows 7. Then I read somewhere that I could try change the USB settings to Mass Storage. But I can't find that option. I dont have something called USB Settings under About phone. I think it was there with 2.1.
Any ideas what to do?

OMG... Thank you.
I still can't get i to work. Tried Mass Storage and Samsung Kies... It just says Connecting the Device and just continuing saying it, without actually doing it...
Are you using a firewall or antivirus application on your PC? If you are try disabling it for a bit and see if it has anything to do with it not working.
I'm assuming you have the latest Kies application and you tried using the driver recovery in Kies.
Yes, I have the lastest Kies installed, and yes I have fw and antivirus. But all that doesn't matter now. Because I used Odin and installed it manually. And omg... that is much more easily.
Anyways... Thank you for your help.

When I go to update my phone through the Lg Update tool on the pc, it says there is an update for the phone, so I follow the steps but when it tells me to backup because everything will be erased do you still want to continue, I click yes and it cancels my up date and tells me to contact lg, so I click on it and it sends me to this page

I had a similar issue. When my phone was in one usb port it couldn't recognise the phone version and therefore tried to update it. In another Usb port however it identified the version fine and told me i was up to date. Perhaps a driver issue on computer?

I just got my Note last week. I am trying to sync my phone to laptop. But somehow, it gets stuck on "connecting". Any tips or other alternatives? Thanks in advance. I plan on rooting my phone. Thats why I need to back up my phone first. Thanks in advance!
What OS are you using? Did you install the USB drivers?
Windows. Yes I in stalled it. But somehow it says that its not properly installed. And problems may occur. I dont know the reason. I tried, reinstalling it, but still same problem. Can I sync it wirelessly?
Hi.
I had the same problem, but it worked after I unchecked the USB Debugging.
Regards
Your problem is most probably the usb debugging uncheck it and your phone is in kiesmode

Try uninstalling, downloading from the country website your phone is from. Or your csc is from. Download from the N7000 page kies. Then install and run as admin. If it doesnt connect perform the connection wizard, or connection troubleshooting. that will reinstall drivers. These steps work for me everytime.

Do a software update over wifi for your phone and downdload the latest kies from official website.

Sorry if this is a stupid answer but I was having a lot of trouble connecting my note to the PC. I was using a cable I used for all my phones that worked fine. Someone told me to try it with the cable Samsung supplied and after that it all worked fine. I just thought it might be worth trying.

Kies Air doesn't do that. The main (PC) KIES app does. But, even if you connect through KIES, it will only allow you to back up things like contacts, photos, ringtones etc. It won't be a full backup of your system.
What can help if KIES doesn't see your phone:
1. Installing the latest version of KIES (which you already did)
2. Making sure your phone is in the MTP (not USB memory) mode. It should be as a default, unless you actually click on "USB memory" button when connecting to PC
3. Unchecking "USB debugging"
4. Running the connection repair wizard in KIES (I have a local language version, so I don't know the exact English name) - this reinstalls drivers - and then connecting again.
5. Trying a different USB port or cable
6. Rebooting both the phone and computer
If all fails, then probably this is a problem with Windows drivers. Repairing this would require a bit of expertise and involves booting Windows in safe mode, checking which devices and drivers are actually installed and removing any that seem suspicious. If you have never done that, an easier option would be installing KIES on another computer and doing the backup there.
Theoretically, running the connection repair wizard in KIES should clean and reinstall the right drivers for your phone, but in practice this doesn't always work as it should.

Not really sure if I'll try since the .exe lg drives you gave me is the same as the one I tried before.
The only way I believe I could overcome this is to install manually the lg drivers but I don't know where to find the files to do so

Well I plugged the phone to the PC in S/W mode and it automatically installed the modem and usb drivers...
However whenever I connect the phone to the PC in LG software mode it appears in device manager as "unknown device" and windows does not find any compatible drivers on the LG folder nor anywhere else on the PC for that matter.
Any other ideas?

I dont use win8 myself, so i can only guess. Go to the driver installer .exe file, right click it and see, if you can maybe set compatibility mode in it to windows 7. Also make sure you run it as admin. And if that also doesnt work, how about disabling your anti virus and all other programs you dont need at that moment and try then?

Im not sure. But if everything fails u can use the have disc method.
How to; google it. There is detailed instructions on the laptopvideotogo page. This basically forces install of a driver, it will work as long as the driver is installed at the right device, and at the right tine ( flash mode, bios and normal operating mode utilize different drivers )
I managed to sort my laptop in the end which already had the drivers installed. Ended up having to do a repair
