Hey guys I think I actually did it. I was going to install the JPC Froyo Rom, and somehow booted into recovery in the ROM. Now whenever I turn the phone on it boots into recovery, and none of the button combinations work for putting it into Download mode so I can flash back to stock. On the i9000 thread it says that if you get into this situation you cannot flash back. Any of you guys run into this issue? If not then it looks like I'll be trying to convince an ATT rep to give me a new phone
Try powering off... Then hold vol up and down buttons then plug in usb.... That happened to me... Your not bricked

Connect to adb and run reboot command

Nope
Nope sorry guys I know all of what you just said. As for plugging in USB while holding volume buttons, it'll just go to that battery charging screen, and adb doesn't work because it doesn't boot past recovery. Sorry guys but yes it was bricked. It's okay though because I just went to ATT and since they can't identify the problem they just replaced the phone
Thought mine was bricked one night, too. Same scenario. Tried dropping the SIM and SD card out even though I didn't think it would make a difference, but it did. Got to download screen and reflashed with ODIN.
Good luck.

If you pull the battery, then put the battery in. hold both volume buttons buttons, and then plug the phone into the computer, it didn't boot to download?
Im curious if you even tried to use the Odin one click thread
There are 4 or 5 ways in that thread on how to get to download mode. And how exactly does this relate to development...just another curious thought. Well, you are getting a new phone, just hope that ATT or Samsung don't try to figure out the cause of your phone being "bricked".
AGAIN!
Okay after this I swear I won't be messing around with Froyo anymore. Here's the story: I got into download on the replacement captivate. Tried to install JPC froyo, but it never started flashing so I unplugged it from Odin and then tried to turn it back on. It goes to the normal "connect phone to computer" screen. However no attempts to get back into download mode have worked. Holding both volume buttons and power until second black screen doesn't work, booting while holding volume down doesn't work, holding both volume buttons and then inserting USB cable doesn't work. I think I'm stuck in this screen unless there's some incredible way I have yet to try. Anybody have any ideas? I would greatly appreciate feedback from the experienced users (Zilch25, designgears, kaik, reaver117), because I think I'd be pushing it trying to get it replaced a second time in such rapid succession
To flashman2002:
I put it in this section because it's in the development section that most flashing and such occurs so I thought there would be the greatest knowledge base. And yes I've pored over the one click thread and none of the methods mentioned there have any effect!
Jeez, I just scared the **** out of myself. I ran the remove lagfix script and it rebooted my phone but it was just a black screen. So I take the battery out. Bad Idea. It showed the ATT screen but just black after that. I could get it into recovery mode but not download. Then I messed some more and would only show a vague disconnected pic.
Finally I got it into download by doing this: (had odin open before hand)
1. took everything out including sim and usb cable.
2. quickly inserted battery and held volume buttons and very quickly inserted usb.
I'm pretty sure its the speed that matters because I tried about 4 times and only when I did it really fast did it work.

Nope. Unless you can do this with godly speed I dont think it'll work. I just got to the "Connect Phone to Computer" screen again.
You had the usb in before anything appeared on the screen right?

Yeah originally. I can get to that screen now by just putting the battery in and holding power button. It seems to behave exactly like it normally would, just can't get out of it.
What screen? The screen you want has a big yellow triangle and says download.

No it's on the phone...!...computer screen. That's what I'm saying, it's been stuck here for a while and none of the methods described on the one click thread work. I've been here before and just holding volume buttons and holding down power for it to boot twice and releasing would do it. Not so anymore. Can't get into download mode doing anything!
Well I read In the SRE thread I think that there are reports of newer phones not responding to any button combos. Bad batch they said not on purpose...
Also for the i9000 apparently you only have to hold the down volume key so since you flashed a i9000 rom try that if you haven't already.
You cant get into recovery right? Just holding volume and power then letting go of power after a bit?
Adb reboot download...

Nope none of it works. I just got it replaced less then 3 hours ago and I already bricked it. I hope somebody finds out something that'll get this fixed. Maybe some way to force download mode through a computer application or something.
Well theres adb like mentioned above but im pretty sure that requires at least recovery mode working.
Like i said before i was stuck on the same screen so maybe theres still hope.
If all else fails someone will figure out how to JTAG these things eventually...

I know it doesn't help you out now, but when you remove the lag fix, just leave it set on the black screen. It's doing its thing. It will reboot when it's done. The home keys should still light up if you press them in this state...
Well thanks for your input anyway guys. Hopefully somebody figures something out. For now I guess I'll keep the SIM in my old iPhone 3G so I at least have a phone. Tomorrow I'll go to another ATT store in my area. Chances are the rep won't know what the hell that screen means and will replace the phone promptly.
so i rooted my phone installed rom manager and flashed something like colckwork rom of hawai mini i switched of my mobile.Today in morning when i tried to tun it on it wont only a black screen no sound no logo no vibration I even tried to remove and insert battery but no luck.I think its a hard brick i got this mobile on 28 feb 2011 and it is still under 1 year warrenty of samsung so can i get a new mobile in place of it or just recover it.(I have the UK system here noot of USA)
can you tell me any way to unbrick it any any one
I have done something similar to my Samsung Vibrant. Rooted and was in process of installing new ROM when on restart got a screen that has Vibrant at the top of screen and Samsung on the bottom of screen then a blank black screen and then goen into a vibrating loop of single vibrate and then another single vibrate and then a triple vibrate and then it starts the loop over again. The only thing I can do is pull the battery to stop it. Anyone know of any thing I can do to correct this or to revert the ROM or anything?
Thank you
Larry
Take it to T-Mobile and say when you turned it on it was like this and they might send it off to be replaced.
i hate those people who wanna pay their insurance for their silly things and fails!
i hope, tmobile won't take it back.
let's see..it's really hard to brick a phone though.
had some problems with my further hd2 as well..yeah, you get really annoyed but if you chill out, in 99% of the cases you'll find a solution.

so guys i live in india here it is called galaxy pop i went to samsung service center and there they replaced my motherboard for free cause it was still in warranty .I will get it next tuesday
I have this model, too. But it is called GT-S5570. It works fine, but i bought it network lock. Have you succeded unlock it?
Had the same, the solution is simple:
Download the newest firmware at samfirmware.com
Use Odin Multi Downloader to upload the firmware to your mobile
(mobile needs to be in download mode, this should still work. Try volume down + home + power)
Just upload the clean firmware and it should be done. The complete guide is placed on the same website on the download page.

And I, I hate little brained guys who says f***king silly things like you. You're not just a little german, you're also a big sucker.
I swear you will have a problem with your phone, and no solution. Really I wish you that.
For other people who has this problem, don't worry, your phone is frozen, so they can't diagnose it. Just say you was syncronizing with Kies, and it happend the phone turned off and that's impossible to restart it. They'll just give you a new one or repair it.
HI
try these ways
it works with my galaxy s
Hold down Vol UP+Vol Down+Power, the screen will flash black, continue holding down all 3 buttons, you will see the "phone--!--PC" screen again, continue holding all 3 buttons, the screen will flash black again, release the power button only. This will put you into Download Mode.
If this does not work, open odin. Then connect your usb cable to your phone and computer. While the USB is plugged in and Odin running press and hold volume down + Home + Power. Once the black screen comes (flashes) release the Power Button. It should get into download mode.
Additionally it is possible to get into the Download Mode using a kind of micro-usb connector,
the last thing u can try is the jigs

Man that volume up and down doesn't support if you have a completely hard bricked phone .
And the jig does works but why use your penny if xda developed a unbricker wich really works for free
I prefer xda undricker the best

Hello guys.I have a galaxy mini and i tried to root it.Everything went fine. Then i saw that an application "Rom manager" would be helpful for my phone.
So i installed it(like an idiot).
Then i tried to install clockwork mode (smthg like that from rom manager) and boom!Everything went black.
I tried to go into recovery mode, download mode NOTHING.
I tried to a lot of things but nothing is working.
Odin recognises my phone when i use volume up+home+end! But it stucks on setup.Again tried to do it in that way but still nothing.
Last i tried that jig thing.I bought 3x100k ohm resistors and do it like he says(that video from youtube) BUT STILL NOTHING.
I dont know what to do!
I would be gratefull if some1 could give me an advice to make it to turn on!
Tyyy.
This is exactly what happened to me too. Did Service centre repair it for free ? What did you tell them ? Please help. ITs urgent/ Bricked black screen.

This!!!
rooted phone!! installed Titanium Backup pro, rom-manager (though i didnt use it).
First i removed yahoofinance.apk thingy... it went black but recovered to charging mode (battery charging screen)... odd i thought.. and (like a idiot) booted up and removed livebackground forest thingy... now!
Pitch black, no state of recovery.
Just thist:
Vol up, home and power button. makes it visible to windows and odin.. KIES failes to connect it...
Its almost like... i got one first warning.. and then samsung decided to **** me!
is it somekind of "security lock"?, its not like i removed the kernel.
EDIT: so.. im messing around... The only thing that one really gets comunication with is the modem circuits, so it looks that way... But then what do i know...
ODIN connects to the same com-port as the samsung modem reports having in device manager!, so i asume this is unit it uses to when transfering the data, flashing.
Other: i get some different behaviors... etc, i would use "volup, home and power" to make it visible in win and then i could just use the power button to get the connection on and off (or rather reset! since i just one time got it to actually stay disconnected).
Now on the other hand i cant use the just the "Vol up" button combo, i have to press both Vol up and down with pwr and home to get it to connect with drivers and show up in ODIN etc..
In some cases u have to have battery unpluged and show it in while holding button combo and sometimes u dont..
I cant make out anything out of this, but maby some of u guys can!?

If the phone is hard bricked (no download mode, no battery charge indicator when power plugged in), you really do not have a choice.
While people claim to be able to use jtag / USB jig (see the only thread started by me in the accesories section of this miniforum), I do not have clear answers in that thread.

Hy... I tried to do an upgrade to my optimus black from 2.3.4 to ICS and after the phone virtually died and everything I do no longer starts. Can someone help me before I go with him to repair? I think the problem would be the motherboard, so if someone who might know a solution, please help me. Thanks in advance!
does it enter software/upgrade mode?
pressing and holding volume up while connecting to a pc while phone is off
does it enter software/upgrade mode?
Unfortunately does not start in any way. I've tried all the ways found on the internet and nothing.
Welcome to the forum. Thread moved as questions belong here in Q&A so please post in the correct forum going forward.
Thanks

Simple test: Phone should be off, take akku out, hold vol+ button while you connect via USB to PC. If it shows something like SW upgrade with a yellow background on the screen good, if screen stays still off it's a hard brick - i.e. you probably can't do anything.

Hello,
I have an LG P880 and I had the Torch app with the flash on.
I accidentally dropped the phone and it fell with the screen down and the flash went off.
When I went so see what happened I noticed that the battery was still attached.
I tried to turn on the phone but to no avail. The power button seems to be working as I can hear it click, but the screen doesn't turn on.
Later tried to connect the phone to my PC to check if it connected in download mode, but it didn't. ADB doesn't recognize any devices either.
I don't know what else I can try.. I had some notes on the internal memory that I can't reach and I really needed them..
Does anyone know of a way to extract information from the internal memory?
The phone is still on warranty and I don't see any screws that have a void stamp. If needed I can disassemble it.
It was running CM 10.1 stable.
Thank you for your time

Thank you for your reply, but I have already tried that. The screen doesn't even turn on.
Another interesting thing that I found is that in complete darkness, I remove and insert the battery and try to turn it on. The lights on the touch buttons slightly blink and the phone doesn't do anything else.

If the phone does not turn on, something has probably broken inside the phone, due to you dropping it. You could try to get it repaired and hope the info will stay on it, or you could disassemble yourself and see if you can spot the problem and repair it yourself.

Thank you for your reply, I will send it to warranty tomorrow probably. I disassembled everything except the touch screen and it seems everything is in place, since I'm don't have the knowledge for anything else and don't want to break any seals if any exist
More information: I can turn it on to the APX mode apparently (volume up + volume down + power on), however Windows says it is an "Unknown device" and doesn't even provide a vendor/device ID so no driver can be installed for the device..
Hope they can salvage my data or I'll have a hard time trying to remember my notes lol

By stating that simple sentence none of us could determine the exact cause. Maybe you've did something wrong during the connecting of your phone to your PC.
In order to make sure your phone is connected to PC, make sure you first hold the volume down button, and then while holding, connect the usb cable to your phone. Then this will make your phone properly connected as flashmode.

I suggest for you to try this one unique method used by adfad666, a developer.
He tried to boot into flashmode, by holding the volume button and the yellow reset button.
If that fails, another person successfully made it by plugging the phone in while on flashmode and then press the volume button down.
If that fails again, another person made it too by actually charging it for the whole night. He then could connect his phone in flashmode. Does your LED bar ever lights up when you connect your charger? This might work for you
Another person tried so much (trial and error) until the phone is recognised.
PS Its fascinating and scary that hard bricks can be recovered mostly by luck

Yellow reset button is a force reboot button located in the backside of your phone, underneath the battery cover. It is intended fore reboots when a device is freezing. But yea a guy use it for recovering from hard brick. He has experience with hardbricks caused by kernel (lol because he builds kernels!) by using that yellow dude on the phone. This however require many trial and errors, as it is quite complicated to actually achieve flashmode connection using the yellow button compared to the normal procedures. However, chances are you may succeed.
I would like to have a look at the resource you used to modify your hosts file, if you please to share.

This however require many trial and errors, as it is quite complicated to actually achieve flashmode connection using the yellow button compared to the normal procedures. However, chances are you may succeed.
I would like to have a look at the resource you used to modify your hosts file, if you please to share.

turns out what you did is completely different from what I intended. Well it seemed that your phone is stuck somehow. In a normal shutdown, when you press that yellow button, it won't start at all (yes I did that an hour ago before suggesting you that. Since it fails, I didn't tell you about it). Maybe this will make some hard bricks recoverable? I don't know either. This is a really strange world.
Okay wondering aside, congratulations that your Xperia SP is recovered from a hard brick! :fingers-crossed: It happens rarely, sometimes simple things can fix it.
No this phone isn't bad. I did so many dangerous things and haven't yet face any hard bricking (I am not quite happy you know, it seems like the hard brick is getting closer to me!). Well there is no firmware updates from Sony that is. However I don't really care about that, since I hate bloated stock ROMs anyway. And personally I don't really care if we are doomed to stuck on 4.4. But I do wish 5 or Lollipop could run on this first Android device of mine.
