hi
I have been experiencing the camera failed issue with my s5.
I went to ATT store and got a replacement device..however, after one day use, the camera failed message came back again!!!!
any idea what i should do? call Samsung?
You can try to call samsung. Or just take it back to at&t. I did read that there was a shipment of s5 that went out and they had faulty cameras.
It is highly unlikely that the new device ends up with the same issue. Are you installing a certain camera app? I'm guessing some software related issue might be interfering with launching the app responsible for the camera.

i used the google camera once, however i uninstall it.
It seems that when you switch to ART mode, it happened!
Do you guys have tried that?
Thanks.
It happened to me a couple times when I first got the phone, but it hasn't happened now for several weeks...not much help but anyone else experience this?

thank you for your information
I have one question there
how long does it take to start your camera app?
1-2s? or even longer?
I used to use iphone, and its like instantly started. ....
but this s5, takes......forever, even worse than s4 :crying:
Hey. Did you manage to fix you camera after all this time?
I'm starting to have the same issue as you, "camera failed". But the front camera is working. I know that because I have a barcode reader app, that lets me switch between cameras. The main camera stays black...
So is it hardware or software?

hey peeps.. long time creeper - first time poster .
after months of perfect use, my htc one camera decided it didnt want to come to work anymore. after the icon is clicked, it begins to load but returns to the home screen. front and rear camera both dont work. i had it taken in by a local repair shop and they insist that the problem is not the hardware as all the connections and the hardware itself works fine.....
my question is- if i root it and install the stock google edition would that get this problem fixed? (something i read was possible through a site: htc-one.wonderhowto.com) i would attach a link, but, alas, i cannot.
Hopefully that link works.
i also hate that my first post is an ask for help. lame, sorry!
Have you tried to do a factory reset? That's about all you can try, if they're saying it's not the hardware.
That usually sorts the majority of software issues

I can definitely say yes, I wiped it. And simultaneously did a firmware upgrade. Still nothing. Would a whole new ROM help?

Did you try to install an alternative Camera App? For example, the stock camera extracted from the Google Edition.
Get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2341554
Hello, everyone! I was wondering if anyone else is having problems sending picture messages? I started having problems on Friday. I've reset the phone, powered it off for 5 minutes and turned off WiFi. The only thing that seems to get them to send is me taking the battery out and reinserting it. I just got this phone 2 weeks ago, and I'm kind of annoyed at this problem. I had the first generation Note before this, and never had any problems like this. Thanks to all who reply!!!
Sorry you're having trouble. No problem here though. I just took a picture, hit share and sent via stock messaging app just fine.

I've found that when using a 3rd party app like Chomp, I have to enter the APN settings manually under the 3rd party app. This first happened to me about a month ago and then recently when I went back to stock to get ready for the updates.

Hmmmm. I'm wondering if that was my problem. I may have froze the stock app when that was going on. Thanks for the tip.
absolutely. I read on here that disabling stock app/gallery would improve battery life, due to a scanning frequency, but yeah, it made it impossible to SMS pictures.

Oh the pitfalls of freezing apps.
I went into my Turned Off apps and saw I'd turned off AT&T ready2go. I turned it back on and haven't had any problems since. Could that have possibly been it?

hmm. did you turn anything else on at the same time? im pretty sure my ATT ready2go is still disabled (and or frozen), maybe even uninstalled.
I've been meaning to root my gs5 but I'm wondering if there's any camera mods. Aside from debloating, increased camera performance is really all I need (it usually takes me about 3-5 tries to get a non blurry picture) but I'm worried that once I'm rooted, I can't complain to att and get a new s5 since it might be a hardware problem
Tl;dr anyone found a good camera mod or know someone who is working on one?

i opened a thread about this and have still yet to find a solution... i might have to go back to using a 3rd party app.. CameraZoom+ worked pretty decent for me on my previous s4 and note3.
i have noticed that turning on "Tap to take pic." and tapping the screen to capture the photo has been working decent.

possibly.. i noticed that when the camera snaps the pic and it flashes the white boarders.. that particular moment doesnt seem to be the actual moment that the photo is taken.. so maybe when the screen flashes, we think the photo is taken and move our hands out of instinct ?

nexus camera....meh
Though the nexus camera works great on the nexus line I've noticed on my so when I use it to capture something that is moving like my child there is a delay in capture...the screen will flash with what I thought I got but when I look at the picture it will be a delayed shot often missing what I wanted. The Samsung camera is not alol that bad.

Yeh I don't get it either, I never take blurry photos. See so many complaints on here and other forums and no clue why, my friends S5 doesn't take blurry pics either. I only turned off pic stabilization. I just make sure the the image is in focus before shooting.
Has everyone removed the factory plastic off the lens?
Going in and out of gallery from the camera app is slow. Is it just me?

It takes about 3-4 seconds to go from WITHIN the camera app to view the picture taken.

Only takes about a second for me. Only got about a few hundred pictures I think.
I have 405 pictures on my external SD card, plus probably around 100 or so on the internal.
Took me about 5 Seconds.

Same thing here. Happens 4 times so far. And any time it happens, it starts to reinstall a lot of apps of other devices I don't need in the camera. Really annoying. Hope Samsung will fix the bug asap.

Mine loses my Google account every 1-3 days. Once it stayed for a week!
Annoying that I have to keep going into the Settings/Accounts and re-add it. It is the only account that gets 'lost'. I have Dropbox and Samsung account on the camera since day one and they are still there.
Oddly enough, I have not heard any other discussions of this other than here; that I am glad I found.
It's weird how settings all of a sudden get removed ?

Exactly.
I did manage to find several other folks on Android Central.com forums that report the very same issue.
No answers though.
Ended up buying another galaxy 2 amazon is a German version (they did refund me £68 when I complained) and I can confirm the German one does the same this is DBT VERSION not BTU so it is definitely a firmware issue

It keeps forgetting my google account even without Facebook app... In fact when I first got it I entered the data, it all worked; went on vacation, when I got there, I had to enter it again. 8 consecutive times. Then it remembered. Until today... Contacted Samsung support, let's see what they say.

I'm in the same position. Even without FB I keep losing my Google data. Please feed back on what Samsung support say!
I never have had FB app installed yet have this issue.
Via a tech chat session, a Samsung support tech told me to force stop and clear data/cache on the Google Account Manager app. Seemed like a reasonable solution, but it didn't work/last overnight. What was interesting is that there was literally no delay in the chat when I posted the problem and the tech offered that solution. Clearly, they are aware of the issue. Now they just need to solve it.
I think I've discovered a work-around solution -- I turned off the Fast power-on feature (Settings/More/Power/Fast Power-on). I haven't haven't had the Google account disappear nor the wallpaper (which usually happens at the same time) in almost 48 hours. Of course, the caveat to that is that is that it can take longer to startup your camera after it's been idle for a while, but you can resolve that issue by increasing the auto power off from the default 1 hour to something more when you're going to be using the camera more frequently.
Same issue here, i am reflashing the rom and i will check off the fast power on if fix it.
Well, it's been about two weeks since I disabled the fast power-on feature and I've lost my Google settings only once during that time, so it appears to help.
Hello there,
This is likely a strange scenario. I got a preproduction HTC One M7 from a friend who works at a wireless carrier... it was just an extra phone that he had since I had lost mine.
It is preproduction hardware... so the exterior looks nothing like the normal HTC Ones. But all the internal guts are the same... except for the camera! It does not have a rear-facing camera! So when I got the phone, if I opened the camera app, it would only open and use the front facing camera. Ok, no biggie, it was a free phone after all!
But then I started to get creative, and unlocked, rooted, and installed Cyanogenmod on the phone. Interestingly enough, there was no camera app on the phone. So I went and downloaded Google Camera. And now... when I open this camera app (or any of the dozen that I've tried), I get an error saying "Camera Error. Can't connect to the camera.", and then the app closes. I'm assuming that is because it is trying to open the app with starting up the rear camera. I tried finding an app that might only open the front camera, but couldn't find an app that worked.
Any ideas? Unfortunately, while I made a Nandroid of my previous stock ROM, I didn't realize that it would get blown away when I rooted and installed Cyanogenmod (i.e. the Nandroid was sitting in the /sdcard folder). So I can't even get back to a version of firmware where the camera works!
Thanks,
mattchoo
