Unresponsive Screen, Burn In - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an i537 running 4.2.2.JB rooted and Ive been trying to figure out how to get to 4.4 hell even 4.3 would be nice. I tried going to Best Buy and having Samsung force an update, but I think the Samsung guys have about as much knowledge on the subject as I do. Rep said he was going to completely reset my phone back to stock firmware, but I think he ended up trying to push 4.4KK. As soon as the phone started rebooting I could see purple and pink burn in on the AT&T screen. Once booted I can use my physical buttons to get to the home screen but after that.... blegh nothing. If somebody could point me in the right direction it would definitely be appreciated.

my phone went fubar, but not bricked after flashing cyanogen 6.0..help!

Well heres the story. I flashed cyanogen 6.0 and all was great,fast,smooth,perfect... Then it all went downhill. The backlight cut out. After wiping, reflashing, doing everything possible as far as that it was still the same.
I soon figured out that if i lock my phone while it was closed, then slid it open and hit menu the backlight would turn on, but it will not work when its not slid open at all.
Problem #2
As i have been dealing with the first problem and i dont have alot of time to fix it because of work and all, it grew even worse. Now when i do what i was doing to get the backlight to come on, The phone will randomly freeze/backlight wont come on at all/ Screen wont even come on.
When i turn on the phone sometimes the screen wont even come on but the backlight will and it wont get anywhere."blank lit black screen no tmobile g1 logo"
This also happens when i go to recovery using home+power. I remedy that by taking out the battery and starting the phone till it works.
Could someone please help me out here i dont really have to much to spend on a new phone and it would be great if i can get this one going like it should again.
you need to wipe before reinstall
if you have armonR, you wipe everything the wipe menu and flash the rom and the flash gapp-3
ive done that many times, hasnt solved anything. i dont know whats going on..getting to the point where i might just break down and get a htc hd2 and put android on it
Try flashing the Defanged Base (which you can find on the cyanogen wiki) then flash the Rom again.
to be honest it was time for an upgrade anyways, now i have the samsung vibrant. Its awesome. Thank you for the help anyways though.

[Q] Help softBrick, or broken phone?

So This morning I decided to give my phone a restart, when I am holding the button to turn the phone one and the samsung boot screen comes on (the white one thats says I896 and samsung in white) and then after that it just goes blank and you can here it play that noise that it would normally make with the samsung boot screen.
After waiting on the blank screen for a few minutes I touched the buttons and the button lights came on. I pulled out the battery and I was able to boot the phone in the recovery screen where i tried to clear all user data and clear the cache, this did't change anything.
This phone was on android 2.1 stock build for rogers, with z4root and oclf (oneclicklagfix) v2 or v2.2 i think. I bought this phone on sunday so it is pretty new.
I am wondering what I should do about this, I spoke to my friend and he said He should be able to fix it with odin and even put 2.2 on it. If anyone has ever had this happen to them or they know anything about it i would be happy to know.
Rather than having your friend void your warranty, why not just return it?
if he purchased it from a reseller such as craigslist or ebay, then he might not be able to take his phone in though. Odin1click to stock usually solves soft-brick like issues though..

[Q] Frozen Screen

First I want to thank all the people on here who have help me out many, many times and never knew it. That's why this is my first post but unfortunately I can't find an answer this time.
I have a AT&T GS4 Active that up until yesterday was rooted since new with no issues. About 3 months ago I noticed a yellowish half moon halo on the left side of the screen halfway up that does not show up on screenshots. Then two days ago I was dialing a number and the screen just froze and would not respond to any touch. I pushed the power button to black out the screen and then again to turn the screen on and it worked fine for a little while but got progressively worse throughout the day to the point where it was unusable.
I than un rooted it and that did nothing so I re booted the phone to factory and attempted to do the OTA update many times, it would download and then reboot and at 25% it would stop and not load the update. Since the factory reset the screen has frozen twice so I can only assume it is going to get worse again. I don't know if the "yellow halo" means this is a hardware issue or not. I am willing to SS and install a ROM if anybody thinks this will help.
Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

It sounds like a hardware issue, but you could always try flashing the ML2 Odin files to see if it fixes anything. Make sure you do not flash the ML2 bootloader or you will be stuck on ML2 with no way to downgrade.

phone stuck on white HTC screen, cannot load to OS

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone is able to help me out with my HTC one M7. My phone has been out of commission since Monday night and I'm all out of options on what to do, I've even tried doing a factory reset as a last resort but that didn't seem to work as it looked like the process just stalled.
Here's a bit of background of what happened: Monday night I charged my phone through the wall outlet and went to have dinner, I came back to check on the phone and it was off. I thought that was odd so when I tried turning it back on I would only ever be able to get to the white HTC logo screen. I'm able to get into fastboot and recovery but after googling solutions and trying the options people have mentioned, it still isn't working. I'm not very tech oriented so I wouldn't know how to flash ROMs or anything like that...soooo, I'm hoping someone is able to explain steps in I'm able to understandr. I don't even know flashing ROMs is possible at this point since whenever I plug it into my PC, the drivers aren't recognized by Windows and says 'failed to install drivers'.
Any help is very much appreciated!! (I signed up to the forum in order to write this and seek help lol)
I haven't done ANY customization to the phone everything is all stock from my service provider so I'm really baffled at how this sudden fail could have happened. There was no OTA update either.

Unfortunately it's not, I've had the phone for a little over 2 years now. Seriously contemplating just using a loaner phone in the meantime while I wait for the new Nexus ...

Yes, I did. It flashed to the screen with 2 green arrows in a circle and 1 downward green arrow with a progress bar at the bottom but nothing happens during this period. I left the phone like that for about 30 mins just to see if anything would happen and nothing did.

Marshmallow OTA update failed

My S5 got the update this morning, it keeps failing at 92% on update and looping. I can't even get to recovery console holding down power, volume and home key. What should I do, my phone was paid off already. I don't know if AT&T will give me a new one because their update screw it up or is there something I can do to restore it? :crying:
Your best bet is probably to just take it in and ask them about it. Unless something is terribly wrong, they may be able to get it to update properly. You can also try just leaving it to try on a loop and hope it sticks eventually. I've had to try to update a half dozen times before it stuck before. Make sure your battery is sufficiently charged, as well. They don't like to update as much with less than 70% charge.
I was able to get into Odin Mode...it says Downloading Do Not Turn Off target!!. Not sure what is downloading but can I do anything to restore it? Maybe there is some hope before I have to get another phone.
I'm so happy, I fixed it...thank god for XDA, just had to do some digging around the forum. I try http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...x-samsung-s5-att-sm-g900a-lollipop-5-t3305497 which got me stuck at the logo screen then I did http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/galaxy-s5-android-version-6-0-1-t3419016 which got me back to 5.1.1. Atleast I have a working phone now. Honestly I had no clue wtf I was doing but I thought about trashing the phone and getting a S7.
