Bell Canada HTC One, want to flash the stock recovery back so that i can get the Sense 6 update. Phone is rooted and unlocked with HTC dev but does not have S-off. been running into issues with hboot 1.56 in that regard and cant get S-off to work. Anyway. From what I gather the OTA update wont work without the stock recovery. How do I know which one to install

Yes, no need to relock bootloader.
One of the advantage is that you can ruu/flash firmwares not specifically not for your device.
Btw you need super cid if you want to ruu firmwares from other carriers.

I can think of two benefit.
The first one is receiving updates. I give the real example of the htc One X. When htc started rolling out the 4.1 update, very few CIDs received the update at first. others couldn't use updated custom roms, because the new rom required the new firmware, and everyone had to wait for very long (Literally months) until the firmware for their cid was released via ota (Even those using an international one x)
With S-off, as soon as someone receives the update, you can flash their updated firmware/hboot, and then update to the latest version using a custom rom or official RUU.
The other benefit that I would imagine is to be able to use the ROMs for the Google Edition of the htc One, which I guess would require a specific firmware or hboot, that we can flash with the s-off.

no need for google edition ... no need for changing cid or flashing ruu´s
i always install renovate or mikes revolution hd and they always have the newest bases at first ...
so ... flashing hboot without relocking is benefit enough for me
thanks guys
With S-OFF you can also flash a custom splashscreens (the screen right before the bootanimation)

I got myself in a bit of a dead zone here.
I have my HTC one. Its HTC__001 WWE Europe. It OTA upgraded to 2.24.401.1.
When I saw that you can convert to a GPE I really wanted to check it out specially after users reported success in getting OTA updates. But I quickly realized I needed S-Off and thats not available yet.
I decided to at least take it to a test drive with ARHD GPE 3.0. I downloaded the latest RUU for my device (1.28.401.7) thinking I would need that to get back to stock. I went and unlocked the bootloader at HTC dev. Flashed CWM recovery and flashed ARHD GPE 3.0. Played around with it for a bit and now when I needed to go back to stock.
RUU.exe file got stuck at updating signature then returned 155 unknown. I realized maybe its attempting to downgrade the bootloader so i looked around for a 2.24.401.1 RUU but its not available yet.
I looked at Nandroid backups and found 1.28.401.7 HTC__001 but its UK unbranded. When I restored this version it loaded up but my touch screen didnt work at all. I flashed back ARHD to get touch capability back.
So my question is... Any chance anyone can nandroid backup the stock 2.24.401.1 i need? How can I go to stock now? Am I stuck with custom roms untill atleast s-off or HTC decides 2.24.401.1 RUU should be made available?
Thanks!
+1
Are you s off?? Downgrade your hboot to 1.44 and then flash the ruu for your device....

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2224752 ... Flash ROM, install stock recovery, relock bootloader, done. The official firmware will be about soon no doubt so you will be able to fastboot it and have the newest base, stock and all before HTC release it in whatever region.
Obviously you'll need S-Off for Hboot 1.54 if/when it happens in order to remove the tampered flag and change relocked back to locked but what I mentioned above is the closest you'll get without being able to run an RUU.

You cant s-off on hboot 154 yet. Unless I am mistaken.

2 things:
1) I'll quote what I said, I never said S-Off was available .. "Obviously you'll need S-Off for Hboot 1.54 if/when it happens"
2) What I said above for going to stock is a way of doing it, a Nandroid is not the only way.

I actually did this and Im running it right now without problems...
But Im not sure id be getting OTAs as the bootloader main ver still says 2.24.401.1 and not 2.24.401.8. I dont think Mike made a 2.24.401.1 available.
Its a bit disappointing. Im fine with having my bootloader tampered and relocked and s-on as long as I got stock running like it should be. i dont understand why HTC gives you the option to unlock ur bootloader to play around with custom firmware but not allow you to go back to stock. im guessing the RUU is on the way but I have my doubts... Just like s-off.

Nah, the stock firmware for 2.24.401.8 is not available yet, only a customised one which would require S-Off anyway. The method I mentioned is the only way at the moment to get as close to stock as possible without being able to go S-Off and flash an older RUU. When Mike gets hold of the stock firmware to post, I'm sure he will ... I can't see any 2.24 RUU's being available seeing that HTC are pushing for a 4.3 release by the end of September, so I'd wait anyways, unless you need to return your device for warranty purposes of course.
As for you getting OTA updates ... I haven't installed the .8 ROM but it shouldn't affect it as the base you are on is still an older base than what you'd be trying to update to but I'm not 100% on that as I haven't flashed it as my device is away for repair lol. I would imagine that the 2.24.401.8 firmware would be about soon enough and then you would be able to revert to stock with the newest base but obviously as you said yourself, without S-Off you wouldn't be able to wipe any trace of you flashing and modding.
I think HTC only allow you to unlock your bootloader because they can void so many warranties that way and bill for repairs lol ... Maybe I'm being cynical but I do agree that they could provide a stock RUU for people to return to stock, without all the hassle of S-Off or waiting months before any suitable RUU is available but sometimes you have to just suck it up and live with what we have lol

I could really use your help. Here are the details:
Bootloader unlocked/tampered
Hboot 1.54
S-ON
TMO US CID (TMOB010 - which I guess is Google Edition? This is supposed to be the TMO version)
SD card won't mount in CWM
Can't sideload
OS 3.06.1700.10
What is going on? I'm getting really frustrated. Flashed the latest RUU to try and go back to stock. Hboot went from 1.44 to 1.54. Made things worse. I also get a non-root message from CWM when I try to reboot? Is my phone corrupted? Any hope for getting this fixed?
TIA,
D6E
P.S. How do I file a warranty claim with HTC?
what RUU did you flash?? Is your phone a Google Edition or just one from T-Mobile??

I don't recall the RUU. Latest edition which I think might have been from EU (makes no sense). My phone is TMO branded. For some reason when I tried to go back to stock the TMO RUU.exe wouldn't work. I did relock as recommended. As soon as I used the GE version of the RUU it flashed successfully. I have no idea how that switch happened.
Did I flash the wrong RUU? Why all the CWM errors all of a sudden? Corrupt memory perhaps?
EDIT: I think I flashed a custom ATT RUU or a custom Nandroid. Is that possible?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2427325
this is the latest RUU for T-Mobile phones.

Hi guys,
I have an AT&T htc one m7 with the latest 5.12.502.2 firmware from htc running sense 6 and 4.4.2. I wish to revert back to 4.3, but have trouble finding any 3.xxx guru resets or stock roms for ATT. Does anyone have any roms/links available to downgrade and still be able to get ota updates (wish to reupdate via ota). I am running hboot 1.57 and I tried rumrunner and firewater(not supported anymore) and unfortunately both failed. I want S-OFF to flash a lower RUU. Any suggestions on what I can do? Thank you!

Hello, I have been searching for about 2 months trying to fix my issue and I have finally decided to give in and seek some assistance from this wonderful site.
Current Setup: HTC One m8 Harman Kardon, S-On, Unlocked Bootloader, CM11, TWRP 2.7.0.2 (Sprint)
End Game: S-Off, Running GPE Lollipop.
I believe I need to return my phone to stock in order to use Sunshine to S-Off and update my firmware so that GPE Radios will work. I have installed the stock Sense 6 ROM 4.4.4 (Wireless not working) but now am trying to install an OTA software update. (Currently on 3.30.654.2) From what I understand I need to install the stock HTC Recovery, however My CID is SPCS_004 and I can not find a recovery for that. Also, what is the process that I should follow when flashing stock recovery, Do I flash recovery and then install the OTA? Will I need to lock my bootloader? I am so turned around in this process that I don't really know what Direction to go in, any help is greatly appreciated.
tl;dr: I need a stock recovery for HTC One m8 Harman Kardon (CID SPCS_004) and can't find it anywhere.
I have finally figured it out!
For others having this issue that may stumble upon similar issues. I focused on returning my phone to stock.
Flash stock HTC Sense 6 4.4.4
Flashed stock recovery 4.16.401.10
I then locked my bootloader
Ran RUU 4.20.654.10
HTC then accepted and Ran the OTA
I am now on Sense 6 running 5.0.1 with stock recovery and a locked bootloader.
I will be making a back up (saving it to my google drive to avoid this issue in the future) and flashing GPE.
This can be closed if need be.
