[Q] s3 fix perm. wont boot - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

have a rooted s3 mini (i8190) with cwm recovery.
Flashed goldenkernal with no problems. However phone started freezing later that day so I tried rebooting, which froze.
Found in a forum that fixing permissions would help the issue.
After a few hours, assuming the phone froze, I removed the battery.
Now the phone wont even turn on. no android, recovery, just black screen
However windows detects an i8190 mass storage device. Was tampering with adb/fastboot with no luck, but them again im not too familiar with the commands...
Any thoughts, or have I successfully bricked my phone?

OK. Maybe you should try to get a hold on a USB jig to force device to DL mode, if it's still accessible. Only cost about 1$ at eBay.

Samsung Galaxy bricked?

Hello guys.
I flashed the galaxy S on Odin with no files attached.
Now the phone will not respond at all. I have tried everything but, there is no lights or reaction as ever. Is this fixable?
I have ordered a JIG but i doent have to much expectations.
Regards Morten
It doesn't even turn on? Try taking the battery out for a few minutes.
Yes thats correct. It happend after flash.
Starting to think if the battery stopped working.
There is no sign of life at all.
The battery was fully charged.
Have tried your suggestion. With no luck.
Edit: Hmm, i have tested the battery now and it shows 4 volt between + and -.
So that shouldnt be the problem.

Yes I know it was stupid. I had a PIT file connected.
And didnt know what i was doing. I couldnt dream of
the program would flash over bootloader.
But i learned and have to pay the price for it.
You can fix it with usb Jig or there is a tutorial for Captive that you can use on your phone and put it in download mode. I think for that you jave to install linux, hemindail and java. Also, you will need to install android sdk for adb reboot recovery command Search the forum, the fix is already there

Take out battery and hold 3 button combo for download mode. Than insert battery and it should throw u to downloading.
How is it possible to flash nothing? Doesn't odin warn you if you got "nothing"?
Should be fixed in next ver.
Download Mode "bricked"
Hi,
My Download Mode is working (3 buttons function), but the Win7 isn`t recognizing as Odin...(I`ve already tried to resolve USB drivers troubles but I think that is not the right option...other Samsung Androids are working weel)
So I am not able to flash anything trough Odin...and the CWM 3.0 show me many "E: unknown moun/ storage"...it`s impossible to restore or install an update.zip for example.

Are you running stock, or did you root and customize?
Try plugging it in to a computer. A lot of us are finding better results when you do. You may end up having to do more. But just being connected to a computer has helped in the past. Quick fix before you start trying adb

Err ..... it won't boot.
Does ADB work at this stage? Assuming you are rooted with CWM recovery, try
Code:
adb reboot recovery
Then from recovery, power it off completely. If fastboot is the problem, this should workaround it for you.

Known issue about the bootloader. Have to be connected to a computer via USB to be able to boot into recovery. if you have a working system partition you can use a script or other apps that will boot you into recovery.
Also the bootloader will freeze if you try to boot into it via the buttons if you are connected to a power outlet via USB

That's interesting. I pretty much always make sure I'm plugged in before going into recovery / bootloader anyway (I'm paranoid about running out of battery mid-operation). I also pretty much always use adb reboot recovery, etc rather than hardware buttons.

Not neccessarily true. I use an app called Quick boot. I can boot into recovery from it with Ease. Lets me set up Widgets/icon for recovery and I have one for reboot. No need for me to hook up to pc. Anywhere at anytime I can boot into recovery on my Nexus 7. I can also set one up for bootloader. If someone gets stuck on bootloader screen, the hardware button press for reboot works to get out of there.
They have a free version of the app and it works perfectly. Check it out. No need to run to a pc everytime you want to flash a rom or something. Battery is nothing to worry about. As long as you have 50%(really even less than that), you good to flash, wipe, or what ever.

Me too. Though I'm old school and still like to type commands rather than point and click. I'll be looking at Quick Boot but still go to PowerShell (which I always have open) and type adb reboot.:silly:
All the various apps that offer rebooting options will work as they are still executing the same terminal commands that you would've had to type in in order to reboot it.
The issue is that you would still require a working system partition in order to boot into recovery (stock/twrp/cwm) without any USB connection. Incase of a soft brick, you will need to connect to a computer in order to get into recovery so i would suggest people make sure they have one nearby when they're flashing stuff.
I just went through this. I boinked my setup and it was bootlooping. I couldn't get into CWM.
Just press and hold Power+VolDwn+VolUp until you get into the stock bootloader. Now plug in your USB to to a PC.
Stay in the bootloader. Mine actually kinda froze but it will unfreeze after a while. Don't select anything. Just stay there.
Now you can use Fastboot commands to reboot into CWM. ADB only works when the phone is on.
I think the command is "fastboot reboot recovery".
This will put you in CWM. You can also take this opportunity to reflash your recovery here too. I reflashed mine just to be on the safe side before rebooting it.

Can't boot, getting a yellow triangle...

First of all, I'm sorry if the answer is somewhere, I searched, but I "only" found many threads with suggestions for JIG use... The three stickies of Q&A also don't present related information I believe...
After some stuck situation in odin, I can't boot the phone. I get a yellow triangle, between a phone and a computer icons. Even if I try to charge the Phone, I get that static screen.
There's anything I can do without using JIG? I cannot enter download mode (at least with the traditional way), I always get that screen. As fair as I know, the phone is still 2.1 with official firmware (i was trying to apple the 2.3.6)

I already have the drivers, they were installed back then when I tried to update the phone, so they are present now.
The problem is, I cant get out of the black screen of death.. in fact, I'm not sure if this model/version can enter download mode through combo keys, yesterday when the phone was borrowed to me, I tried and I couldn't, so I was using adb reboot download shell command - but anyway, the drivers are there.

Yes. I'm wondering if my Google Nexus S drivers didn't not conflicted with the drivers I installed. I don't know.
Well, I'll try with another laptop, if that don't work, is it advisable to use a jig connector from a "trusted" seller? I'm asking because I already saw a comment or two along the about blewed (is this a word?) up phones.
Hey mate had the same issue your gonna have to get a jig as a lot of the i9000's came with corrupted boot loaders so you can't get into download without the jig and the screen your on isn't download mode I know which one your talking about with the phone the triangle and the computer

No the jig basicly makes it so a certain voltage signal is sent to the CPU triggering download mode no risk at all

I tried with another laptop with very well configured drivers, and didn't worked. Still didn't detected by odin. When I tried with another galaxy it works, after entering download mode...
I'm not admired, because before the brick, I was not able to enter the download mode with como keys, I shouldnt be surprised that does not happen now..
Follow this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494493
1) Uninstall your drivers, and re-install the ones following the instructions and link above.
2) Pull your battery out for a few mins and then put it back in and go into download mode (power, volume down, home button).
3) Download stock + odin from the link above, and start odin, and connect phone to pc through usb.
Your phone should be detected -- this is where you got stuck right? I'll assume if its detected, the rest you can figure out (plus its in the link above)

Looks like the bootloader was corrupted since the beginning, and now that I need it more than ever (because the black screen of death phone-!-pc), I stucked until (hopefully) i get a JIG... Already bought one, have to wait a few days to receive it. Until then, I'm going to use a old nokia.

[Q] Screen stays black

Hey Guys,
My Note won't start or do anything, it's completely dead, screen stays black. I checked the battery: it's fully loaded.
Heimdall, Odin, Kies, Windows cannot detect the device. I took the SIM-Card and Battery out and gave it back in, nothing.
Of course I tried holding all the buttons and combinations (VolUp/Down+Home+Power) nothing. No recovery or download mode. Like dead.
It was rooted so I lost the samsung warranty.
I have had the device for a month now it worked perfectly so far.
Is there anything else you would try to restart it?

Maybe a JIG will help you starting your phone ? Have you tried it ?
If you do not have the plug JIG, try this: hold (simultaneously) the Vol-,Home, Power for 20 seconds. Release the buttons and press Vol +. Check if the PC Odin sees your phone.

Didn't help, but thx for the advice.
I'm not familiar with a JIG plug though, what's that and where to get that?
What I did:
After agreeing to install some auto-update on Samsung's ICS my sim-unlock was gone.
So I tried to root it again and copied CWM and CWM-SuperSU-v0.87 on my SD, rebooted into recovery mode, and while installing the superuser the screen went blank. Maybe it's been a faulty download or an interruption in the power supply. Battery was 90% charged though.

[Q] Bricked Phone?

Hi all. I have a problem with an S5830 which was on 2.3.6 Stock+Root. It was network locked (even if with the code to check it said every lock was off), so I tried the factory reset solution listed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9006090&postcount=1 using the code *2767*3855#. After the reboot my phone got stuck in a bootloop. I tried flashing with Odin many different fw, with and without data.rfs just to be sure it wasn't corrupted, but my phone just keep looping after the samsung logo.
Is there an easy way to fix it?
Thanks
Just in case it can be useful, more details:
1) After the Odin autoreboot it keeps lopping without even displaying the samsung logo (display just go on and off), but if i remove/insert battery and turn it on it loops after the samsung logo.
2) Download mode, Special download, and Ramdump mode works, but Recovery mode don't.

Go to www.themythace.com/flash-stock-rom.html & follow the steps. After flashing, odin shows, closing serial port & rebooting device or something like that. Wait until pass appears. This time your device ends up in a boot loop. Now, take off battery & go back to downloading mode & reflash via odin. This time your device might boot. Atleast for me it did...
I never had a head ache & some one recommended me rooting !!!
Hmmm I'm afraid yours is bricked, though not unfixable.
When in odin did you use the right .ops file ?
Also, which recovery were you using ?
It is possible that your partitions are corrupted.

I used the correct Cooperv1 ops (I had flashed with it other times when I was trying custom roms). I was using CWM as recovery. Also I tought about the partition getting corrupted, that's why I downloaded an old stock rom with all the filesystem .rfs files (including data) to recreate them, but still it didn't work. At this point my only guess is that efs got corrupted in some way (I even have a backup of it but dunno how to restore it, did it with the "cat xxx > /file" procedure while tring to get the network unlock code).
When you say it's not unfixable, what you mean exactly? Anything that I can do at home without sending it to Samsung?
Thanks for your time.
Hmmm. I suspect your guess is right, perhaps someone else may know how to restore it.
I had to send mine to Samsung, and although they said they gave me a new motherboard I suspect they simply used jtag.

What is this Jtag? Something that I can build at home? Any scheme?

You can try searching about jtag & oneclickunbrick on google or on xda. Not sure what the processes involve but they help booting into downloading mode if you weren't able to before. But did you try what I suggested before ??

Oh then it wouldn't help. I can boot in download mode, but flashing a stock rom didn't fix it. I tried several times.
Put it in download mode again and flash again or try a different rom. If you have download mode it isn't bricked its fixable from home

I tried many times, with different roms, one package and not. Nothing fixed it. If it's the efs corrupted I think there is nothing you can do, even if I can go in download mode.
I think there is a way to flash cwm recovery via Odin you could try that, it could fix it but I'm not to sure but it's always worth ago
And when using Odin you just need ops file checked and one package checked and untick the first box were the three boxes are
