Try cleaning the phone's USB port first (for example using a compressed air can, or any other method you find suitable), maybe it's just some debris in there.
If that doesn't fix it, then yes, off to repair, because it will only get worse over time.

I would say it's cause the PC connection, uses different/more pins, than a normal charger... so for the time being the charging ones are still good, but not the ones to "talk" to your PC.... since it does "come and go", it could just be debris in there.
Or it could be a hardware problem that could get worse over time.
i will try to clean the usb port and also another usb cable, and i will came back with and response if worked or not

When i connect my device to usb, nothing happens.
I looked up the forum for solutions, but was unable to find them.
It shows nothing in network connections, nothing in device manager, en activesyc shows nothing at all.
I tried the following:
- Other USB cable/port
- Reinstall activesync or use older version.
- Uncheked advanced networking in my device.
- Turned off firewall
I cant think of any other solutions at this time, maybe someone can help me.
(sorry for my bad English, i'm Dutch)
Ciao,
did you try to remove your older connection from your telephone? I mean programs -> system tools -> activesync -> menu -> options -> delete existing connections.
This works for me whenever i have some connection problems.
No luck =(
Still the same
No one has any idea?
Reboot the PC. Make sure you check Device Manager for any issues. Maybe disconnect all USB peripherals and then try the phone first. Did you try a different machine (PC)?

The HTC proprietary extUSB connector on the bottom of the TyTN II has been known to fail in a few cases (if you search in this forum there are many posts about it). When you plug in the charger or wired headphones do these work fully? Does your battery charge when connected to a PCs USB port? Not that these are 100% foolproof tests because different pins are used for the USB signal connection. What changes did you make or incidents occurred before this problem occurred e.g. started using a different charging cradle etc? Have you inspected the connector for damage and tried the original HTC cable?

The battery still charges via USB (via my pc), i used a charger in my car.
This is a USBport in the car, difficult to explain.

I can't tell you of my headphone works, because i lost it.
I can't dectect any damage to my USB port.
Update:
I've been looking at my USB port on mt PDA, and did a little bending, now when i connect my device, the screen flips to horizontal view.
So i guess the problem has to do with the USB connector after all.
Upd: OMG :O it keeps flipping from horizontal to vertical, even when it's not plugged in.

Be careful about using just any old car charger system. If you search this forum you'll see that there was one model which could damage the TyTN II due to overloading the UBS port on it (something to do with reverse flow under periods of heavy electrical load). I believe that model was subsequently modified to prevent this problem but it doesn't mean other car chargers with the same affliction wont arrive on the scene. Maybe it's time to hard reset the device and if it still plays up, return it to the supplier for a warranty claim.

It has just stop working when a plug in my usb to my pc i do not get "Turn on USB storage" on my phone. No usb icon also. The computer does not recognize the phone.
I have try different cables, computers and OS. Also did a factory resat and putt on debuging mode on and off. Also multiple restarts with no luck. I use stock rom.
Are my phone broken?
It's probably the usb ports though you have tried with other computers ;/
or the micro-usb port of your device

I had the same problem and I believe it is a phone issue. I tried reinstalling drivers, different USB ports on different machines, factory resets, different cables etc. At times when plugged in the phone would suddenly wake up and acknowledge the USB connection while at others it just started charging when plugged in to USB.
What confirms that this is a phone problem rather than a PC problem is that when I connect it to my office workstation that runs on Sun Solaris, it behaves pretty much the same, acknowledging the connection randomly. My HTC Magic on the other hand always connected to both home PCs and office workstation without any issues every time.
Finally I have returned my handset and asked for a replacement.

Good luck. It's a pity though as otherwise my handset worked perfectly with no reboots lags etc. I hope the replacement comes in soon and is bug free too.
I have the same issue with my macbook. Since yesterday my o2x isn't recognized by my mac.
I know it is not the usb cable, or the (micro)usb port, because when i plug the phone in at night my alarm clock on the o2x fires up (as it should).
So a connection is made, it just doesn't show "turn on usb storage" on my o2x. And i cannot understand why.
I am on the 0606 baseband, with the new FR19 ROM from Paul O'brien's Modaco (which is excellent btw).
If anyone has a solution, please let me kno
I have the same problem with my phone under modaco fr19, baseband + ril 606.
My pc is under windows vista and the drivers are installed correctly.

Update:
I received a replacement handset which was V10D 20110405 out of the box. No issues with USB connection.
Just out of interest, did any of you leave the phone connected to USB for a long time before it started failing? I used to leave it charging via USB all day at work so just wondering if there is a connection...
Update:
I earlier stated that my O2X wouldn't connect to my macbook. Yesterday I connected the O2X while on the Windows Vista partition of my mac, and it connected without any problem. After that, rebooted to Mac OSX partition, and no problem there. So I am a bit puzzeled about why, but it seems to work again.
In reaction to mparack's question, i sometimes let it load overnight via usb cable. But not a lot. I do not think that was the cause. I thought it was caused by flashing the 0606 baseband, but now I do not think that was the culprit.
Got back my phone from Telia on Wednesday. Everything worked fine. And I upgraded the phone using the LG update (Basbandversion: 1035.21_20110622) LGE version LGP990-V10c). After that the same problem! It feels like it's a bug in the software. Then they have changed the mainborad and it sounds unlikely that the new one is defective to.Goning back to Telia on Monday if they know about a bug or if you can get a new phone.
Those of you who have had the same problem what version do you have? Can I downgrade phone in anyway?
hey guys i have a usb connection problem with my galaxy note.. whenever i connect my phone to my pc the usb connection icon doesnt appear neither any message shows up on the pc, the only thing it does is charge the phone , i even used differnt usb , tried reflashing the rom , thoough im using a custom rom , but no success, but there is one thing when i phone is connected to the pc and during that interval i restart the phone a message appears on the pc at the boot screen ...unrecocnized device connected, as soon as phone proceeds it too disappears.....if you guys know anything about this kindly help me out.....i have to pull my sd card every time i need to put something in my phone
It's possibly due to condensation on micro USB port of your mobile. Try cleaning it with rubbing alcohol and keeping your phone under the sun or in dehumidifier.

Just clean it as is. You might be able to see the problem, but you will need a good magnifying glass or loop to see it.
I took some photos I found on the web of a dirty port and colored in the contamination I found on mine.

I have the exact same problem. My device doesn't get recognised by windows 7. It doesn't ask me if I want to use the phone as a pendrive. When plugged in, it only charges the phone. Sometimes the phone does not even realise that it has been plugged in at all. I dont think that its a problem with the pins because I have tried using an OTG and been able to connect to an external hard drive and copy files. Also I have been able to use PC Odin and flash a stock rom using a usb cable. This makes me think that all the pins are fine, and that its a software problem. Something has got glitched and not getting un-glitched lol!
Current Rom is the here

one thing you can try.. is to completely uninstall KIES off and remove all samsung usb drivers off your computer. When I say completely uninstall Kies, I mean totally removing it, from your system registry files and including Samsung folders that you can find in Program files or in program files x86..
After that, restart your computer and reinstall Kies and/or all samsung adb /usb drivers again.
Don't forget as well to plug your usb cable at the back of your PC since mostly USB ports coming from the back of it has strong usb signals than the ones at the front.
Hope this helps.
Don't forget to hit me up a 'Thank' if I've helped you some way or the other.
Cheers!

isolate the issue first...get another usb cable, and if you have another computer (aside from the one your normally using at), try to plug your phone on that computer and see if that pc will detect your phone.
If not still, then that's the time you can already consider that your phone might be the one having the issue.

Well I guess, that would prove the point that it could be your phone that might be having the issue bud. After all, you tried different options already but still came up with the same issue.
I'd suggest you may need to take your phone to SSC and have them check it.

So this seems to be the same problem lot of people are facing and solving it by various means... Here is a list of things I have tried, but still not working -
1. connect to PC after selecting "connect to pc" in settings > more > usb connection
2. revert to stock rom and stock kernel using mobile odin and try to do (1)
3. restore nandroid from 2 months ago when it was working
4. cleaning with qtip (dry)
5. tried usb switcher app
6. tried newest jb 4.1.2 from eyebee's thread.
Any thing that I left out other than service center?
Usb Fix
I fixed two other Notes and a SII by this simple method:
Look into the microusb connector on your phone, and see if the pin in the middle is centered. If not, bend it straight (Carefully!).
Yes, I know it sounds stupid, but it seems people just slam the usb connector into the slot, bending it down... This causes the phone to charge but not to see the usb connection.
Hope this helps.

I have the same problem here with my n7000.
Its happened after flashing ics roms. N7000's have some kind of faulty chips which causes emmc brick bug. But the issue we're having is a USB Brick.
Flashed many kernels & roms etc. but still no signs of life :crying:
Different cables & pcs, no luck..
As we are able to use mobile odin only, i flashed stock GB and sent for warranty. I always avoided to trigger binary counter so it was easy for me.
However, results were disappointing. Technician guy said that usb port is working and there is connection between both devices but something blocks usb connection. There were some unremovable files which shouldnt be there and they couldnt delete it as the section was read only accessible.
ADB isnt functioning too..
I guess the only possible way is to find a tech guy capable of replacing emmc to solve the issue from source..
Please let me know if there are any updates from your side.

hey try software called StickMount Pro... worked for me
Hello. I have been using S4 for few months now and had it rooted. It is an amazing phone and work perfectly well
Recently all of sudden, when I put my cable in for charging, my phone wont detect it. Nothing happened on the screen (no "charging sign written", no lightning sign at the top right corner). But if you just leave it as it is, the phone will be charge to full.
Same with the USB as well. I had no problem of connecting my phone to my PC via USB before. But now my PC cant detect my phone anymore even with KIES.
Both of these problems turn out at the same time. Initially I assume something might be wrong with the usb port of my phone or something hardware related.
Weird enough, when I try connecting the phone to my PC in Odin Mode, the PC can detect my phone.
I had tried unroot my phone with a stock firmware and the problem is still persist. Had google around and find no solutions.
Anyone had any idea to work around this problem? It is really troublesome to not be able to connect my phone to my PC
Do you have the latest drivers installed? Have you tried a different cable? A different USB port?

try un-installing the device drivers from pc. then reinstall again.
did that too. not working.
I dont think the problem is the pc driver. As I mentioned before. when I go into odin mode. it can detect my phone.
And its not only usb that cannot be detected.
Had problem with the charging too as what I mentioned above even when I charge using a power source directly
