So I just got the AT&T S5 Active, the best comparison I could find is on GSM Arena, and its the not exact chipset label, slightly different so I'm hesitant to try putting a rom on it.
Any dev's care to try and help me out to figure out if a S5 ROM will work, without actually trying to put one on, and bricking my phone?
I'm not sure how the process works but I'm sure there is a test or something I can run without bricking my phone on a first attempt to put on a rom.
Bump!
Anyone else on here have a S5 Active that would like to know the same?
I have an S5 Active as well and want to put a custom ROM too. I really like the Xtrestolite ROM.

Hello!!
I have the s5 active, our bootloaders are locked just like the S5 ATT/VZW. You can install safestrap and flash any ROM that will work on the ATT S5 only. Xposed framework works, safestrap works, black theme works " need a few files from the international variant for black dialer/incallui to work right. I left mine stock, rooted via towel root, de bloated all the junk, black themed and Xposed framework tweaks. I just find stuff in the S5 threads and if I like I try lol..
Good looking out man.

It's alright but I want to be able to install android l when it comes out not two three years down the road when Samsung gets to it. And be able to use Xposed and get my 8 shortcuts back on my lockscreen. The heart rate monitor and the ability to take a double picture and funny noises while unlocking are all cute features but I need functional not cute features. So am I going to have to return my device for a different brand?

Is there not an official sub-forum/thread anywhere for this phone? I don't have the phone yet but have been searching to find some sort of development to decide if I should buy one. I really like this phone but no development is a deal breaker for me. I know this phone isn't at the top of the popularity list and that's probably why. My interest peaked when towel root made its debut and I've been itching to buy one ever since.
Can anyone else confirm that most/all at&t s5 goodies also work for the s5 active?

No such thing as s5 active roms supposedly. I haven't been keeping up with the forums for these anymore since this one is about it.
It's good enough of a phone without a rom. Battery life is good, runs great, I just want to debloat this thing of ATT/Samsung crap.
What every happened to the idea of android being open source?

A lot of questions being thrown around here.
There is no sub forum for the S5 Active, the request has been submitted but not approved.
You can flash ROMs after you root the phone by following this thread; S5 regular roms will work, just not the active button.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2794087
There is at least one specific S5 Active ROM

I want google edition on my phone.. Will that ever happen? Touchwiz is OK everyone has there own opinion but I only bought this very expensive device to put alternate Roms on it. Please let me know.. if I can't install slim ROM, google edition, or cm at any point in this devices life I will be returning it.

You better return it then. Our phones have a locked bootloader. Locked bootloader means no kernel which means no alternative roms that don't use the stock touchwiz kernel.

bcoz its samsung.
Yes I believe so
last samsung phone for me
(i'm really serious..dissapointed with the fact they have 10 note 4 versions, slow updates, not even saying around when they will be released and up until 4.4.4, touchwiz still lags)
my next phone will be either a motorola or an LG.
no harm in waiting few more days!! no need to feel butt hurt its still 5.0 , note 4 might get 5.0.2 at release

I reckon they should synchronize the release, btw they are definitely reading this forum, just to see how many people has issues with this device.
I see nothing special in android 5.0 update.
Still touchwiz will override all the lollipop UI changes, and touchwiz has far more features than any aosp will have.
I general android update is only insterested on nexus and gpe devices there you actually see that Google has on it's mind about interface and features. All the Google apps are already updated on every device anyways, so it is not like iOS there you wait for new update as it brings newer web browser update/fixes and so on...

Hey i just want to say to those who thinks its not anything better, they need to think again. My wifes S5 has it, the battery is much better, in fact she went 3 days before needed a charge to where before on 442 she had to charge it every other day. Plus it seems alot smoother than my note 4. I personally hope they present it when its a stable product. So I am patient
Judhin say it there is nothing special except one thing, Writing to SD card again that's the only reason I need Lollipop.
thats regular from Samsung
and i bet the lollipop update will not came with any features just changing the number from 4.4.4 to 5.0.2 in
(About Phone)
actually Samsung doesn,t respect the customers for an example
1.TouchWize still lagging !
2.Finger print sensor is *** from S5 and they re installed in NOTE 4 ! without enhancement
3.Waterproof why its not available on NOTE 4 !!
4.Quick Charge its not really charge in 30 min its take about 40 !!
5.Thousands of editions of NOTE 4 to make developing and Mods not compatible !!
6.And i will not forget the Filled RAM !!!

Yes, and? What's your problem in this?
Your Note 4 doesn't function anymore now the Note 3 has an earlier update?
Ask yourself: Why did I buy this phone?
1. Because of it's great functions and other things
2. To complain, if earlier models gets an update first (and my phone doesn't have the "great functions" anymore)
Get a life!
I just don't get the game Samsung is playing....from my point of view the newest devices should get the firmware update first then the rest. But hey, I wouldn't be surprised if the note 2 gets lollipop before the note 4 since it is scheduled to get it too hahaha
Just awaiting game with Samsung.
Surely they must have had a problem with the testing on the Note 4 , maybe they have came across a few bugs with the note 4,
Must admit i am surprise that the Note 3 received the update first.

Just make it fair and square, I somehow don't agree with some of your points.
1. I do not suffer any lag at all with the touchwiz on note 4.
2. I agree that the fingerprint sensor is shxt, but this is because apple is having the best supplier on the market.
3. I don't feel any problem with waterproof, you don't always throw your phone into water. When you need it, get a waterproof pack.
4. No comment as not an important issue to me with that 10 minutes. Just use an powerbank if really urgent to save up that 10 minutes.
5. A lot of note 4 variant is carrier provider and US fault, they purposely request Samsung to make separate version for them.
6. Something wrong with your system as LMK will manage your RAM itself. I do agree that the RAM usage is quite high but since no effect to smoothness and performance, why need to worry about that?

And there is need for a new thread for this ?.. just another reason to poke the flame horse..

Hi everyone,
today I got my Note 5 (920C) :victory: first impressions are that it's big, dense, heavy and IDK weird.... but that's normal for me the first days are always like that. My History with Smartphones the last years go like this S4, Note 3, S6 edge (all of'em rooted) and now the Note 5. Loved the S6 edge but after the Note 3 I wanted a 5.7" screen all the time.
Anyway.... now to my current struggle.
What would you do? Would you root right now or test drive it stock and pass some time till 6.0.1 drops? My device has UAE csc and I saw the CAM csc 6.0.1 doesn't even has German as a language.
I don't care about Knox because I don't have a warranty and Samsung Pay is never gonna happen in Germany anyway....
And what about the Deep Sleep issue? I still haven't figured out what causes this issue and if it's a big deal or not! Just read somewhere if I would root for the first time on M this wouldn't affect me. Is that right and another reason to wait for official OTA with my csc?
would love it if someone could give me advice.

Do you know if it's true that deep sleep issue doesn't happen if rooted on MM? that would be another reason to wait. I mean it can't take much longer anymore. The other reason is that I have to set up my phone how I like it and probably after MM I have to do it again.... not having German sucks but wouldn't be a massive problem.
but thanks so far for ur advice.
If you don't have a warranty and you're not going to use Samsung Pay, I'd say go for the root. No doubt whatever ROM and kernel you choose will be updated to MM.
I too am waiting to root until I get MM on my Note 5. I am a bit concerned about the deep sleep feature though.
Is it worth to root and install other roms breaking the warranty? What is better camera? Battery life, performance? Still no lineage os proper rom.. Thansk for answers. Im asking who is a flashaholic and tested many roms. Because i was. Had note3. quite new with note8

I used to root and flash everything I had as well. Started on the note 2, then 3 and 4. I came from the Note 4. I still haven't seen any real benefits of rooting the Note 8. My reasoning before was for free wifi hotspot. But I have that now on my stock 8.

The UI and customization is better on Roms. Being able to rid self of ads cool as well. Also being able to get rid of bloatware. But I can understand where your coming from.
I am kinda on same boat as you. Rooting and Roming is dien it seems. Wish it wasn't The Note 8 Sexy with Root or not Root thou

This is the first phone I have not rooted and have no intention to root.
Reasons why I generally root -
* Can block ads on the default (Chrome) browser. To work around, I use Firefox instead of Chrome. I also hear Samsung's own browser is good and also has adblocking, a lot of people swear by it, but I haven't yet tried it much. I'm eager to see how Google implements it in Q2 2018.
* Could turn screen upside down. This helps a lot if you use (wired) headsets or charger while using the phone in portrait mode while lying down. IMO this should be part of stock! But this alone is not worth it for me to root.
Beware you shouldn't root this phone just for experimenting.
WARNING Rooting breaks Knox, which disables a few things few things irreversibly. As of now, you won't be able to use Samsung Pay / Android Pay, Samsung Secure Files, even if you 'unroot'.
You should root if you want to try out new ROM's, and you are okay with loosing secure features like Android Pay / Samsung Pay forever.
Alright so i bought my Samsung galaxy tab s8+ 5G (XM-806B) a month ago, and the thing i instantly noticed was how bad it was performing on heavy games/apps (genshin, pubg). Does anyone have a fix for this? I heard removing the bloatware should help, my solution right now is using magisk modules that kills all background app and flush ram. This is really annoying i expected it to perform better than my asus rog phone 5 that i bought last year, im thinking about selling it and buying Nubia red magic 6 pro, but im pretty sure nobody would want a rooted tab (i could unroot it and relock bootloader but the warranty would still be void) really need solutions.
Thanks in advance
yes, using magisk modules are the best solution. Replace the original kernel whit a custom kernel. It will give you a lot of performance boost and also battery life.

Hi,
There are a few things you can try to improve the performance of your Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ 5G:
Remove bloatware: As you mentioned, removing unnecessary apps that come pre-installed on your device can help improve performance.
Clear cache and data: Clearing the cache and data of heavy apps can also help improve performance.
Disable background apps: By disabling apps that run in the background, you can free up memory and resources for other apps.
Update your device: Make sure that your device has the latest software updates installed, as these updates often include performance improvements.
Uninstall unnecessary apps: The more apps you have installed on your device, the more resources they will consume. Uninstalling apps you no longer use can help improve performance.
Use a memory cleaner: There are many memory cleaner apps available on the Google Play Store that can help improve performance by clearing out unused memory and resources.
It's worth noting that rooting your device will void its warranty, and if you sell it to someone else, it can be a problem. If you decide to do so, make sure you unroot and relock the bootloader before selling it.
Keep in mind that some of the most demanding games and apps will always require powerful hardware to run smoothly, so it's possible that your device may not be able to perform as well as you'd like, especially with 5G.

Refer to this post. It is a hardware problem which is impossible to "fix" by removing bloatware or flashing custom kernel (given one exist). The only thing you can do is a copper mod, which is described in that post. But odds that your screen will survive are quite low. I did this mod on my S8+ and got insane performance boost. Software-wise my tablet is fully stock, even game services are not removed. See attached pics for results.
