[Q] Whatsapp soundmessage sounds wierd - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I used to use the memo function from whatsapp allot (the button right next to the textfield)
But now since i got my Z1 for two weeks i cant use this function anymore. :crying:
I can record and send this messages fine, but when someone (or myself) listens to them they are not understandable.
Volume goes up and down and it sounds like a really bad robot voice..
Mic works well with camera and phone and sound messages from other people work fine also... So WTF is the problem?
Thanks in advance

Try talking to the secondary microphone, which is the grill on the top back of the device, near the main camera and directly opposite to the speaker. There is a known Whatsapp bug where it confuses the main and secondary microphones on some devices, including many S800 phones.

I know, this is what I ment, it should be said to speak to the second microphone and not to the front speaker. Also it's a news to me that Whatsapp confuse the main microphone with the second, this will explain all. I will try later and report. :fingers-crossed:

This is REALLY working! I had that in mind somehow but i never tested it because i thought this would be too wierd..
Some apps like telegramm work with normal mic, but if you use the secondary they get much better and louder soundmessages.
whatsapp is still not very loud when using the secondary microphone but its working finally! thanks allot!

Problem with my microphone

People keep saying they cannot hear me when I talk to them. It's like I'm speaking through a can, from a distance. My warranty is not valid anymore as the phone is rooted, but I know it's been like this for a while, way before I rooted it. It's like water is stuck in the microphone somehow, or that an internal piece may have been depositioned and blocking the mic.
Is there anything I can do to solve this? Like a 3rd party app that increases the mic volume?
Thanks
Your Warranty is not voided because of Root. If you bootloader is locked you can just revert to stock.
BTW, Z1 have 2 microphones, are you sure you holding in the right position the phone?

So if I relock my boot loader with stock ROM the warranty will still be void?
2 microphones? As in one for calls and one for the camera? The camera mic works just fine but the one for calls seems to be completely broken no matter how I hold my phone. I just had a phone call and when I answered, the person on the other end could not hear me at all. I had to switch to speaker phones so it could use the camera mic instead.
EDIT: Okay, so I just tried to set my own voice mail in order to playback my calling voice. I'm not joking, I sound just like Stephen Hawking except that you can barely hear what I'm saying. It is very robot like and distorted. Also, it seems like there is a voice recognition thing on, which means whenever I stop speak, the mic will turn off to reduce ambient noise. However, this also removes the first word I say when it activates the mic again upon voice recognition. I turned the noise cancelation setting off but no major difference.
And btw, the problem only seems to exist when I'm in a call, not when recording my voice with an app like WhatsApp or any sound recorder from Google Play. Even the built-in voice recorder works fine. Does this have something to do with my carrier?

There is not 1 for camera and 1 for calls. There is 2 microphones, 1 at the bottom of the phone and one on top behind call speaker. They both working with any application to reduce noise in phone calls or recordings. Just search on Google, is not so hard.

As I don't have this problem in any circumstance I cannot tell, play with the settings to understand if you will get better sound quality.

Maybe but I don't know, as the problem persist then I will return the phone to your carrier, let them know the problem and repaired or replaced the phone.

[Q]Problem with mic

Hello!
I have problem with mic I tear apart main flex cable) durring replacing LCD screen and mic(on the bottom of the phone is aint working. But there is a way durring the call if I turn speaker on the other mic(located on top of the phone) is working and the person on other side can hear me. Is any way to use this mic durring the call without speaker on? Is a way to select from which mic will be voice taken or is a way to send the phone "fake" signal that speaker is on?

Left Speaker Issue?

The left speaker doesn't work on my Mate S L09. It's not a software problem because I hard reset all but nothing.
Can someone give a disassembly guide or an idea to detect problem?
Thank's
The Mate S has afaik no left speaker, just one mono speaker which plays the left and right channels.
What about the left? it's for what?

The answer is obvious - the microphone.
Obvious for you, but is not really obvious at all. It's a crappy way for installing a microphone.

Question Microphone issue

Hi,
I am using S21 Ultra Snapdragon version. I am having issue with my microphone which is adjacent to charger plug. It only works when i put my mouth real close to it or at straight plane. During voice call, the person receiving my call complains of hearing voice in fluctuating volume (sometimes loud sometimes small in seconds). I am on latest firmware. I have already tried cleaning my the hole of microphone. Please help.
Thank you.

If a factory reset doesn't help, it could be a microphone hardware issue. Better to take it to the service centre and get it checked out. Somethings can't be fixed with a software solution
Thank you for your reply. I had tried factory reset but no help.
This phone was left as a gift to me and unfortunately, in my country, the official service center doesnt repair phones from abroad. Also, I had shown this to four technicians. One said its likely software because if mic was damaged it wouldnt receive any noise. Remaining had said it was hardware issue and all of their answers were different.(problem in microphone, problem in IC). Thus, Im quite reluctant to send them for repair.
Could you please help regarding possible faulty hardware. The problem is my phone sends fluctuating volumed voice during call either from sim or messenger.
Thank you
@Qhycliss1: Just interested to know: does the same symptoms occur when you make a voice recording? Eg with the samsung native voice recording app?
That may (or not) exclude microphone HW issues.
Hi and thank you for your reply.
While using official voice recorder, if i keep my mouth near the lower microphone then the voice is excellent. However, if i deviate my mouth by creating an angle (if i face the screen and record) the volume in recording decreases but still i can hear recording.
Of note, when I try loopback test (*#0283#), the rcv_1st mic has muffled sound but when i arch my hand to direct sound from mouth to mic) it is clear. I dont know if this is of any help.

Sounds like a defective microphone to me. Sorry I can't think of a software solution to help.
If I was in your situation and repair was not an option, I'd probably end up use USB headset with mic or Bluetooth earphones for calls. It's not ideal, but don't know what else to suggest.
