Every time I try to factory reset the phone a new password page comes up and ask me to enter a password and confirm. How do I not have to enter a password every time I factory reset ?
This what it looks like upon every factory reset
Please any idea ? I'm trying to sell the phone, don't wanna sell with some kinda of password on there
Factory reset it in recovery.

Cant disable it in lockscreen settings? Weird that the password should've been erased when you factory reset it. Try to look into security settings and apps in your phone that is enabled and try to turn it off and do the factory reset again to see if it still there.

Don't think so. If I did I probably would have known already since I factory reset in the recovery once and rebooted a bunch of times. I'm afraid to click on encryption to see ..
It says "password required to encrypt device each time you turn it on" I don't have to enter password to use the device, ONLY upon each factory reset, first photo in post #8, it asks for NEW password , like picture in second post, as if I'm setting up a password

Post a picture when asks for password.
Do you have your att sim card in. If not it will ask for pass code every time. Not sure why it does that but it does. It has nothing to do with kk.

So I got locked out via the pattern lock on the Captivate. I tried hard reset, deleting all user data and rebooting.. but still comes up with a gmail account and password prompt on start. I can not get this to work... how can I get it back to stock out of the box so I can start over? Will odin work to do this?

Unfortunately this is a bug in 2.1 on the Captivate and the only way I know to fix it is to use ODIN to flash the phone.
As was said above if you odin flash you should be ok, outside oid loosing your set up and app status

Hey all,
I just went from ICS to Stock 2.3.6 and the first thing I noticed is that after the flashing process where de phones go to recovery and loads for some time it asked me for a password... I tried many things but without luck, i flashed TWRP and wiped data and everything then it went away and I could normally use my phone...
Now I set up a Pin lock on my phone and I know 100% sure i know the pin because im using it for a year or so now but it keeps telling me the pincode is incorrect, so i cant unlock it.
Wiped everything again and did the same thing but again it keeps telling me its wrong while I know its correct...
How can I fix this?
Thanks in advance!

Well, according to this: "I wiped data and everything then it went away and I could normally use my phone...", it seems (at least that's what I think) that you have set a software-based pin code (instead of the simcard code itself) from which you thought it was the simcard code all the time. so your simcard code remained unchanged. This is just my speculation, try the original code. (if you can still find it) Because wiping any partition would never delete information (pincode) on your simcard.

No its not the pincode of my simcard that it asks for thats still there and working fine it asks for a password which i assume is the pinlock on my phone, i also tried without a lock on my phone and it still asks for it.

It may sound as im advertising, but what you can try is flashing broodROM RC5 with odin, a bunch of people actually reported that if your stuck in "your" situation, a flash of broodrom goodness can do miracles. I have never experienced such problems but you can always try and flash my rom, if it works again then install stock

The phone booted and i set up an lock screen i locked it and it still says pincode wrong! Now i need to wipe date etc to have access again.
This is really pissing me off...
What can i do now?
Where is the lockscreen located? maybe i can access it and change some values or something?
Or can someone thats using Broodrom rc5 give me his framework file or some system files that the lockscreen may be using?
Thanks in advance!
Sorry man. Pin code security comes from you sim card. Changing your system files wont work. You can Buy a new sim card, Try to find puk code or go back to your provider and tell them you lost your puk code.

I am now on 2.3.6 and I already wanted to try that but when I connect it to kies is says 'Your device is not supported' or something because I got this firmware file from samfirmware I think.
Is there a way to force update to the firmware Kies was giving?
Btw i noticed when I set a pin screen lock and afterwards I press 'No Screenlock' it doesn't ask for the pin to confirm, and as long as I can remember it did when you wanted to remove the screenlock(back in the days when it was working lol).

Hi XDA,
I have a HTC One that was an ex demo phone that I bought off my boss.
The problem I am having is I am unable to set up a screen lock and I think it has something to do with it being a demo model.
It did have a demo app that I have uninstalled that made no difference. I have attempted to factory reset with no success (via settings)
I attempted to factory reset using hardware buttons but the phone just turns on skips passed where the boot menu would normally be.
Does anybody have any idea how I could fix this issue as I would like to put some sort of screen lock on my phone

Going to the bootloader and wiping or going to recovery and wiping will remove any demo content there is, its not hard coded in, it's literally an app.

I'm unable to factory reset using hardware buttons (volume down and power)
When I did a factory reset using the option in settings it still had the demo app

Hi, I just had to wipe a store demo unit for regular use at work and came up against the same issues, however I used the ADB command "adb reboot recovery" and the phone rebooted into HTC recovery and allowed me to wipe it. Once it restarted all demo content was removed and the handset was back to being a regular device.
Hope this helps!
Just bought a demoex at the store for a good price. Had some trouble with demo mode to get it away as factory reset was greyed out but as poster above me said just enter recovery (shut down phone then press volume down + power) and from the recovery you can do a factory reset and the phone will enter "normal mode".
same problem here
Hi everybody,
I have the same problem to remove demo from htc one m8 tried factory reset but demo is still there.
Demo appears as an app in the app drawer and doesn't allow me to uninstall it.
Any solution?

Hey there, I'm in the same boat as 551515. The code is correct (thanks!) however a password/code is needed to factory reset from this menu. Do you know what it might be?
Thanks!
Press and hold the power button until a second display shows options to enable or disable demo mode and reboot.... this is how to get out of it I think on the M8..check my threads for it's full posting
No ....no need to flash, in demo mode a lot of options & uses are restricted like wifi etc but still useable as a mobile phone, as it states, it's in Demo Mode.
Thankfully you can turn it off unlike this Tab, you have to pull the battery!

Sent from my GT-I9295 using XDA Premium HD app
As stated, without that password your only realistic option is an ODIN flash back to stock whichever stock ROM that is, and hopefully you have one or else you'll end up with some other version, potentially a leaked pre-release that may or may not be 100% functional.
I would factory Reset from stock recovery before getting stuck on mf1

I'm not sure I understand this one. Rooting shouldn't prevent you from performing a factory reset. Sure, you'll lose your root, but that's easy to restore.

What version of Kingo did you try? Use 1.1.5 or 1.1.8. People have had success with that. 1.1.8 worked for me. Just Google around and you will find the download on the net somewhere.

Factory Reset after the update to NB4, also go to recovery wipe cache, then try the 1.18, during the rooting process, look your phone screen, you need to click accept something twice,
I don't know how it all works terribly well but you said you still have Safestrap? Can you still install ROMs and can they have root?
Also, for when you eventually do get it working again. I recommend freezing the ATT updater. It can be awful when it eventually FORCES an update.
I got a free app called App Quarantine and froze "AT&T Software Update".

You will just have to follow the restore to MJ5 thread. The instructions are simple and very easy to follow. Go slow and follow them to the T.
What they do not mention however is do not use a 3.0 USB port. Only 2.0 will work.
Just follow that.
It is literally impossible to brick this phone to the point of it being unrecoverable. There is a tutorial to restore from hard bricks without J-Tag.

I even tried doing the same on the external sd as well. When I reboot supersu doesn't do anything. Any suggestion on how to get the last step to work?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey graydiggy, I did the restore back to MJ5, but can't seem to get the last step for rooting to work. I tried every way with putting the rdlv on internal...unzipped and zipped. It has to be unzipped and on the internal. You have to reboot a few times for it to activate. After the first reboot, let the phone sit for a few minutes and then reboot again. You should be good to go after that.
