[Q] Bypassing AT&T Throttle on SGS5? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

I just got hit with the throttle at 5GB. On my old SGS2, I had a few APNs plugged in to bypass. Anyone know of any good alternatives?
Alternatively, I was attempting to follow this thread.
In particular, I wanted to disable GPRS to keep it from throttling. Normally this can be done by changing the network mode (see here).
Unfortunately the G900A variant does not have "Network Mode" (AT&T must be blocking it). Any tips on how to get to it or other ways to bypass throttling?

Perfect! Thank you!
I believe by going "LTE/CDMA" it will keep me from getting pushed to the terrible EDGE network.

I don't think I understand how this works. I am on a grandfathered data plan and get throttled at 5 GB. I am very conscientious in monitoring my data usage to avoid throttling.
To clarify what I think I learned in this thread, please confirm or correct the following statements: (i) when you are throttled, you are simply pushed to the EDGE network which is 2g (slow). (ii) By choosing a network preference such as LTE/CDMA (which does not include GSM (EDGE/2G)), you will instead be throttled to CDMA (4g) which isn't terrible like EDGE, but not great like LTE thereby "bypassing" the throttle.

Thats the theory.

Cool thanks, I didn't know that before today.

Does switching to WCDMA actually bypass ATTs throttling? I've only been throttled once, still would be nice to know.

[Q] 4G on GT-N7000 with Tmob or go Straight Talk?

I got this phone as a total impulse buy and didn't research. I am currently on Tmob and all I have is edge. How can I get 4G? Or should I just go to Straight Talk to get 4G.
You can either go with att or straight talk. I used to be on t-mobile and went to straight talk and data speeds are pretty good. I usually get 3Mbps sometimes as high as 6.
I get 7 down 2 up on att.
You will never get more than edge on t mobile.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Or get T-mo mifi
I also used the Note with Edge and T-mo, I used it on ATT with HSPA+ one moth and had very good speed so I am going to switch to straighttalk. However I also bought the Tmo mifi for when I travel and that works well to supply multiple devices with 4g.
I considered keeping my Tmo plan for the Note and using edge but keeping the Mifi around when I needed more speed. The only reason I do not do that is it would bring my monthly bill up to 60 and with Straight Talk I can get the same for 45.
You could try Net10 $50unlimited plan. I always thought they were a Verizon Mnvo but I guess they have agreements with ATT. I just ordered a sim so I can give them a try. Anyone have experience with their BYO plan?
http://www.net10sim.com/
I must be missing something here as I don't know what straighttalk is...
The note doesn't support 4g, you need dedicated hardware for that. Fastest you'll get is hspa+.

Att and its resellers is the only way to get 3g on an n7000 unless you live in one of the few areas of the usa where tmo uses the 1900 band for hdspa. I use tmo myself and dont find 2g that limiting, as i have wifi everywhere i go, and 2g is adequate for gps when traveling.

I went to a phone store and they guy talked me into Red Pocket phone service. It is 60 per month and I get hspa+ everywhere I go. They cap at 2GB of data.
I average 3 to 6 MBPS down. I don't know if HSPA+ is generic 4G but for a phone, it's great.

Unlimited data no more!!!

This is a heads up so take it as you may.
I just came from T-Mobile and one of the reps told me they had a really big meeting recently and T-Mobile is planning on retiring their unlimited data.
Signs that this might be true:
1: T-Mobile officially getting iPhone 5. We all know this means a flock of isheeps heading to T-Mobile for unlimited data and iPhone
2: LTE network currently rolling out. T-Mobile iPhone 5 will probably support LTE. So who really thinks you'd have unlimited LTE for around $70? Unheard of.
3: T-Mobile merging with metro pcs aiming to pass at&t as number 2 carrier. We all know the bigger a phone company gets, the less ****s they give about their customers.
4: all this new "unCarrier" crap they're dropping all has data of 2gb, 5gb and highest being 12gb.
I'm thinking this is all gonna happen either when the iPhone 5 is sent to T-Mobile or when their LTE network is solid enough across the boards. Let's look at Verizon when they got rid of their unlimited data and how LTE was spread almost instantly. But on the bright side, I believe from an article that I came across, they'll get rid of it and go back to throttling when LTE is out. What that means is when you go past your data allowance on LTE network, you get throttled down to 4g instead of edge/2g/3g.
Once again, this is all stuff I figure is gonna happen from all the recent changes going on. Feel free to comment your opinions and thoughts
Isn't that what they're doing now? Their plans just throttle you after a certain data amount, except the $70 unlimited everything(no throttling) plan.

This won't be true for the foreseeable future since their new marketing campaign is centered around the option of unlimited data. Remember LTE is a more efficient use of spectrum so it can handle a larger load than other network types. They've also probably done their research on what the average consumer uses in data so they priced their unlimited plan based on the law of averages.

Verizon dropped unlimited data plans after it lost the right to block tethering apps in the Android market.

T-Mobile already bans tethering on it's unlimited plan, but allows it on metered plans.
They just don't want to end up competing with home broadband providers. Why pay for FIOS, when you can tether LTE?
what? does it make sense to remove unlimited data after releasing new plans this week? thats a marketing and pr nightmare.

You're no more credible than anyone else here, bud. If anything, you're less credible for posting a RUMOR (From a rep no less. Irony much?) that holds very little water considering how T-Mobile is very proud of being one of the only carriers to offer truly unlimited data. All you have done is create a flame topic for which you should be thrown in that fire. Don't tell people to comment their thoughts and opinions if you can't handle it.

Hi guys do we really need 4G or Lte these days ?
Those mobiles supports JUST one Radio frequency .. which is NOT good ..
So you will travel somewhere else 4g /lte will stop working cos of diff. frequency ..
It is about of time when mobiles will support all 4g /lte frequencies same as 3G network ..
I think DC-HSDPA is LEADER now days with brilliant speed ..
4G in UK has EE company which is completely UNACCEPTABLE ! Ridiculous prices overcharging .. NO not ready yet ..

Still love this phone though!
3UK, DC-HSDPA speeds are fluctuating badly, in the same spot, speeds range from 0.5/0.3 to 14/4, throughout the day, it's terrible! Pings always seem to be around 60-90 though so that's alright.

The N4 radio is not capable of showing when it is using DC-HSDPA, if you go into about phone > status, it'll tell you when using HSPA+ (HSPA+:15) but that's as high as it goes.

The radio knows perfectly well what network type it is on/band/frequency. The problem is that Android has no standard way of displaying anything other than network type. Manufacturers implement their own field test apps, which can communicate directly to the radio and get this information.
Back to the point, no phone with proper Android does. Android does not have a definition for DC-HSPA+ as a network type. This was hacked into CM, which will bite them later on like it did Samsung for LTE (certain phones will say eHRPD instead of LTE since they have conflicting constant 14 in TelephonyManager). It's fragmentation at it's finest.
That's not the point, it can utilise DC-HSDPA, but it doesn't show it in TelephonyManager, even with CM's commit, they said it only works on certain phones because the radio would not show it to the software on most phones.

How strange, not exactly sure how things work in America but I think you have to sign up to a high speed, or 4G plan for HSPA+, but like I said, I'm not entirely sure. There could also be an alternate APN for high speed.
i dont see the point of having lte when you can have hspa+. i get 25/3 speeds in hungary, which is more than enough.

Flash radios? No T-Mobile LTE

I have yet to get T-Mobile's lte on my unlocked HTC First. Does anyone know why? ( I have had 2 AT&T unlocked handsets running on lte in my area previously.)
Are there any different radios around I can flash? I am aware that the First and One Mini have nearly the same hardware. Could I try flashing a One Mini radio?

I've also got my first with T-Mobile but all I can get is hspa+ yes we've got the necessary radios for LTE but the phone isn't programmed in a way that it can use them. You'll need a T-Mobile specific RUU for that. But our first is a at&t only handset so none is existent. Will something from the mini work? Maybe. But it's likely that you would end up with a brick. And I don't believe that a T-Mobile specific one exists. Go ahead an try it if you want tho and mess around with stuff but... Beware

Don't worry about it too much. Hspa+ speeds are great! I get an average of 8mbs down! But I'm in a completely refarmed area. Make sure to check on your device info whether you're getting hspa+ or umts as you might need a different APN. (Umts is 3g but shows up as 4g)
It's HSPA+. However, I live on the edge of the reframed area. In my city I get anywhere from .5 down, up to as high as 3MBs. On lte it was around 10-20 down.

I have achieved 3G thus far, I've heard folks can get full 4G LTE, Maybe it's as simple as calling Verizon Tech support and they can assist me somehow. Was hoping I'd get some real help here on good 'ol reliable XDA first and foremost.
This phone isnt compatible with Verizon's 4G LTE. it does not possess the necessary band to achieve this.
You can set the phone to LTE only and get 4g data but no calls or text. Or you can go the regular way and have 3g data calls and text. Sadly not both
