[Q] What's the most stable ROM you've tried? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I'm have been using PAC-ROM 4.4.Alpha-1 nightly build 2014--03-09.
Perfectly stable... except for the call logs which never seems to register any missed calls.
LOL, a phone that can do everything except calling back missed calls, the irony.
Perhaps you guys/gals came across a flawless ROM?
Post it here!

I think I got screen with even more up time. It was stock 4.3

You can give AOKP a try if you are okay with using os without custom ui

Hi @peterhuh
Welcome to XDA! We typically do not allow best/most stable ROM or kernel threads here. The reason being is that the answer to the question is always subjective. There are many great ROM's and kernels in the dev section. Try a few out for yourself. What you think works best for you may be different than what others may tell you.

Universal Roms???????

None on the Vivid Roms are anywhere close to stable, and all the dev's are leaving :crying:
I may be misinformed, but there is not a single rom that works flalessly on our devices...
So, this brings me to my question. Is there a UNIVERSAL ROM for ANY ANDROID DEVICE?
No, there is no universal Rom
Why?
-because every android device is completely different from each other...even similar devices have quite a bit of differences-chipsets, manufacturers, drivers, mount points...etc, they all very from device to device

i suggest flashing some roms instead of putting dow the forum. some ppl have put alot of work into these roms
Try albinoman's CyanogenMod 10.1 ROM. It's Jellybean 4.2.2 and is stable. Only problem I have is reception bars are inaccurate, but that is a rare problem.
Only other bug I have encountered is reception drops on first boot. Easy fix in the development thread.

Hi,
I flashed this Rom, but it seems that the in-call and speaker volume is still very low.
I started from the stock ICS rom, unlocked, rooted, flash boot.img and flash the rom. The volume issue in CM10 is solved in this Rom?
Thanks

No its going to plauge this device forever. I am going to try one thing to see if I can make it work .. I found something.. But It most likely wont work and this is sorta off topic to what this started out to be. If you have any questions go ask em in the Development section

It is a bug in all of the AOSP based roms. Albinoman released a new build which kinda fixes it. I haven't tested it yet but according to the posts on the thread seems to be working well.

What an interesting post that relays something I've been noticing about XDA, it's development and far too many post of someone who asserted they had no problems putting such and such ROM into his device, "Here's the Tutorial" issue I'm having at present.
I have even openly complained about the only thing I was learning how to do here was how to brick devices in every possible way. And the way I found out how to recover from it properly, sure wasn't from them here. A lot of times you can get the official firmware straight from the manufacturer, online. I've been gone 8 to 10 years and what happened? Most of the posts are Ghost-Town status! Back to the point.
I don't see why they can't be universal, really. And it seems as though, that this was overlooked by every single so-called developer out there. How do you make a 64 bit processor with a dual core would be the first clue. You got your phone(modem) and a split partition that the modem may control sometimes but, can be modified. They seem to have decorated the tree, so to speak rather than actually "build" something. Oh it looks nice and all with the tinsel and shinny stuff. But they're in a hurry I guess and missing the reality of it. You can see it with the source code. The story will go that they got a source code, let's say, Android 4.0. Did this, this, this and that and here you go. Woohooo, look what I did. But what did they do? It wasn't really building if you look at it the right way, it's just, decoration. In the beginning you had to stack things, like boxes. one on top of the other. It's kinda like that. Or sideways. Remember the basics. Two core, four core, soon eight. It doesn't really matter when all it is, is some kind of partitioning. What is it all? 64 one way or another. But seperate the two is the first issue. The phones gonna be the phone regardless. Put a switch in for control. Then you're left with the other part to do as you wish. Run a whole different program, on top of the phone program. Eventually you're gonna reach the end of what the phone is capable of. That's a givenIt was remembering the days of TV/VCR repair and how a basic motherboard works. This part controls audio, this part controls video thing. Now you see it? It's the same in an Android isn't it, just smaller of course. And when it dawned on me that this was more than possible and everyone went the other way? Oh boy things are about to get silly around here at XDA. I'm most definately going to take a different look at this now. It wasn't a problem ten years ago once you got the hang of it to flash in a ROM. Everything I see now is. So what happened? Everyone went decorating I guess...

Riiiight chipsets are more about how many GHz the device may use which is usually around 1 to 1.65 GHZ, we want our devices fast. Manufactures? Well they just put the same stuff together in a different way. Drivers and mounts can be put together, same ol USB (with maybe different serials) and even sd card mounts. Really there's not much difference when you look at it as a whole. Refrence

Most Stable/Fast Rom?

Hey guys! I just rooted my girlfriends phone. I am wondering your suggestions for a fast and stable ROM. My gf does not have 3G/4G she just has WIFI / basic calls / SMS.
I was looking at the CM10.1 rom but I experienced a lot of issues with answering the phone and not being able to hear anyone on my Verizon Galaxy S4. I was told this is a CM10.1 issue.
Which sucks... bad... because CM10.1 rocks..
Does anyone have any pointers for us? Thanks in advanced!

cm10.1 and my roms based off it only have these problems
1: First call the other end cant hear you : fix: Call voicemail on every boot
2: Some random skipping occurs when playing audio
3. In call volume is low. Depends how well you can hear
you said cm10.1 has those 3 listed issues... but what about cm10.2 based (4.3)??

I'm using CM 10.2 - it's in the forums under "AOSP 4.3 [KANG]". Runs fantastic. No issues with sound. Best experience I've had on this phone so far. Apparently there are some camera glitches with it, but otherwise it's perfect.

Camera doesnt really work right.
Sometimes music skips... Its a lot better than cm10.1 though

The most stablest rom in this time is coming from albinoman887 CM.10.2 it works good all other devs has end his work with many bugs in their Roms

CM11 user thread

I'm managing my wife's phone for her (and often looking at it longingly). I was an HTC Evo 3d user before it took a dump a few months ago and at that point I went over to the dark side (Samsung). Happy to be staying in the HTC loop vicariously through my wife's phone.
She's s-off and on a sense rom right now but I'd like to get her on cm11. Unfortunately, texts do not work for her using the official release. Anyone else on cm11? Anyone else experiencing this issue w/cm11?
Either way, I figured it would be useful to have a thread to discuss cm for the m8.
Thanks!
Hmmm. I haven't seen any bugs with texts. I'm on stock right now so I couldn't tell you for sure. Does she have any data at all? Can she make calls?
Sent from my 831C using Tapatalk
Yep calls and data are good.
Hmmm. The only thing I can really think of is that it was either a bad download or a bad flash.
Sent from my 831C using Tapatalk
Could be, I'll have to give it another shot when I can get my hands on her phone. Thanks!
SMS is working for me on the latest nightly. CM runs so well on this phone!
Does anyone else use cm for this phone? Also, why is there so little "original development" for the m8? Isn't this where the aosp Roms would be? Am I missing something?
I put the latest stable release of cm on my wife's phone. Very jealousâ˜ș
Check the regular HTC M8 forums. Many of the AOSP roms are available for all variants.

Rom recommendations

So, as a maintainer for PAC-Roms I haven't ventured away from running it in quite some time. But, there are a couple issues we have that come from upstream. So, I'm looking for a rom that has working wifi calling, and doesn't have the VoLTE bug with outgoing calls all showing up as unknown. Also, as many features as possible.
I'm currently running Omni but had to use Gravity Box to somewhat get my custom features fix! Lol. So, I'm open to any suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

Chroma is a great ROM.
Flashed the 071715 Pac nightly rom(LP mr1) yesterday and it has been working great, volte working fine. Not sure if WiFi calling works as I have VZW. Other excellent roms are Benzo, aosip and pure

I know about PAC, I'm a maintainer. And VoLTE leaves every outgoing call labeled as 'Unknown'

Firstly I recommend PureNexus by Beans...its awesome, has Layers, and I'm using Elite kernel. That's aosp based...obviously. Lol. Secondly I highly recommend Spring from Per...probably the best, most stable, clean running CM based ROM out...period. He builds his own kernel which is phenomenal and I suggest staying with his baked in one.

Nice Job
I've been using the XDABBEB roms exclusively on my G2 for a long time. I got fed up with the jank and lag of the stock 5.0.2 ROM and decided to try this rather than go back to 4.4.2. What a breath of fresh air! Incredibly smooth. I am going to stick with this as my daily driver until the new nexus comes out this fall. I do have one question: Is it impossble to get VoLTE/Advanced Calling working on this ROM? I've scoured the internet for half a day and tried all the suggestions (remove the feature from my plan, re-add it, use the *#*#4636#*#* secret phone menu, etc.) , but I have concluded it just doesn't work on AOSP. True?

Mobile data fixed?
I noticed in the latest build I don't have to fiddle with the APNs after I reboot to get mobile data working. Was this fixed or just an anomaly? The only minor inconvenience I have noticed with this ROM and it might be related to the baseband or mobile data, is whenever I am in a crowded venue (small concert, fairs, etc.) I cannot send or receive MMS no matter how long I wait. But as soon as I get away from the crowds, on another tower presumably, it works. Is this just me or have others noticed this?

On a side note. I love this ROM. But, I have never used other kernels on a caf based ROM. If I was to flash kernel will any kernel that states caf based do. Or is there more to it. Any kernel suggestions

I think you'll be looking for cm based as well. I know render kernel was working but I haven't tried it lately. @Lawlrus might be able to chime in... I know he plays around alot with mixing and matching.
What kernel does anyone suggest for this ROM?
The one that comes with it is all I've used... Hopefully someone else can help more.
