First time rooter here but fairly comfortable with tweaking things.
I rooted my new LG G2 (VS980 4G) running 4.4.2 (VS98024A) the other day. I've backed up apps+data with Titanium Backup. It's my understanding that TWRP install is next and then possibly something like CM or Malladus. Is that correct? I want to clear the bloatware and get to a nice, clean, Android OEM or Nexus-like style, if possible.
I was hoping y'all might be able to point me in the right direction.

You have a couple of choices. Debloat the stock rom, install a debloated/customized stock style rom (Malladus, etc or go with an AOSP based rom (CM11 based on 4.4.2 OTA, Beanstalk, Carbon, etc.), just keep in mind since you're at 24A, you need to use something like Autorec to install TWRP and if you want an AOSP rom, you need one based on 24A/4.4.2 source.

You have to downgrade your aboot to install a recovery, LG patched the exploit in 24A. I believe you can flash CWM afterwards, I just know AutoRec does all the back end patching and stuff then flashes TWRP automatically.

It appears as though the 4.4.2 update is going to be coming out any day now. (or i'm being overly optimistic). I have been running stock for quite some time and haven't been rooted, but I don't want to dive right into an OTA and lose that option. So, assuming the update is 24A, are we able to root it, flash recovery, and return to stock? I'd feel better about taking any OTA if I knew that was already in place.
Thanks guys.

24A can be easily rooted, you have to downgrade some of the firmware to install a custom recovery though. We'll have to wait for a final OTA to see if that's still the case.

OTA is rolling out, I got it about 45 minutes ago
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
On the OTA now, I'm hoping we won't have to downgrade some of the system files :/ seems risky...
So it seems ioroot25 works with 24a correct? As far as recovery I've seen a couple options. Is autorec the best? Also are we able to return to stock on 24a?

AutoRec is the easiest, it does all the behind the scenes stuff you need to do to flash a recovery.
In the general G2 forum they have CM12 running. The Verizon model still has a few hiccups like no working data, but I know they will have it fixed very soon.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development/rom-cyanogenmod-12-0-lg-g2-t2944269
Thought I would make a video showing it running.
http://youtu.be/4xZPgXupHnM
thanks. at least i wasn't the only one without data working on that build
I also made a how to video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxnuenmojmE
Data is working as of the 11/19 build. You just need to turn data roaming on and data will work. You WON'T be roaming even if it shows R you'll still be on LTE/3G whatever is available in your area. Switch roaming to on and either toggle data off/on or reboot your phone and you're good to go.
Has anyone tried putting Verizon's Visual Voicemail on this? It looks like VVM requires being able to intercept sms and Lollipop's "Choose your primary sms app" seems to block vvm from intercepting them. I guess Verizon is going to have to sort this out before they can offer lollipop on any of their devices. Besides that, this rom seems pretty good!
Thanks both for the heads up and the video tutorial. It works fine except for the knock feature, anyone else have a issue? I tried to load the hiddenmenu.apk via recovery and it would not load.
Does this rom have the sod issue's like the official kit kat cm?

You flash the rom, gapps, supersu, and then the 12b modem. This is all assuming you are on twrp 2.8.1.1. No need to flash anything else.

This cm12 is pretty solid!
Can someone help? My LG G2 verizon doesn't boot any CM rom even 11...but it boots JackPotCalvin's cm11 based rom & ACIP fine!
I have bumped TWRP recovery
Here's a fast way to do a full factory restore so you can take an ota without erasing your internal storage.
This will not however remove the rooted message for a warrant claim.
Check MD5's before flashing.
Step 1: Flash Flash KK24a System Restore 1st.
Step 2: Flash KK24a Bootstack Restore 2nd.
Warning: You will loose your custom recovery after reboot.

Can't do 27a restore as System.img is too big for a zip to be flashed. Its over 2.2gb. Needs to be under 2.1gb for custom recovery to flash it. I can't get it compressed under 2.1gb.

Excellent, thank @MicroMod777. One more question; after I flash this, I'm unrooted, no custom recovery. If I root the 24a using ioroot25 (but not a custom recovery), will the root maintain through the updates to 27A? I recall reading somewhere on here that it did. Thanks for your work!!

Not really sure, but you can always use Stump Root on 27A. Can take up to 10 minutes for it to root through brute force:

Looks like they may have patched that in twrp recently.
https://github.com/omnirom/android_bootable_recovery/commit/78ab0c5807c17e343cc4fa9af86ea2d787e0e047
Though this could also just be for backups over 2gb... But they split those anyway.

If you unlocked the boot loader, rooted and have TWRP custom recovery, you just need to :
1. Download rom and gapps to your phone. Links should be found in the OP of the ROM's thread. If you wish Google to restore your apps be sure you have selected the backup-auto restore in settings.
2. Do unencryption now if you wish.
3. Boot into TWRP recovery and wipe a couple times.
4. From TWRP, install the rom and gapps.
5. Reboot system, sign into your Google account and let it download and restore your apps.
6. Reboot system once more & you should be gtg.

Should be in the Chroma OP or close thereby as to whether you need the boot loader.
I would think for sure a wipe or two. Boot loader, maybe. Radio, at your discretion.

I checked. Instructions and prerequisites are in the OP of the Chroma thread.
I also updated my Nexus 6 with 5.0.1, unlock and root, to 5.1 without losing data. I just had to re-root it afterwards.
I used Wugfresh Nexus root toolkit.
In short I used "Flash stock + unroot", in which I selected "Enable no-wipe" and "force-flash".
After this I rerooted the device from within NRT.
Worked like a charm!

Well can you be my guinea pig and flash chroma without doing everything else? worst thing that could happen is it not boot into the rom and wrong radio will just make your phone not pickking up signel intil you flashed radio. but chroma dont say anything about flashing bootloader so i dont think its needed.
BTW ims still on rooted stock 5.0.1.

Onto your question...
What oneclick method? Do you have a link? Some install a recovery, some are simply root. If you're coming from 39a stock, you need to use XDABEBB's 39a bootstack (get it here) (keeps the 39a modem, rolls back to an older bootloader as Bump is patched in 39a so you can't boot anything but stock. Your oneclick method likely flashed a recovery, but not a bootstack.... Which is what's causing the dead android when you boot recovery. You're really lucky it didn't flash everything though as you could've possibly bricked your phone if it had.
You should have used Freedom Tool which would have got you what you needed... or maybe the new autorec.
Read Twice, Flash once.
