First Time I have to open a new thread
Is it possible, that the Data Connection speed has a negative impact on speech quality?
Today at home with WLAN ON and Mobile Data OFF,
I was wondering that I have only on telephone signal bar.
After making some changes to the mobile settings I came to the following conclusion.
The mobile signal strength is depending on your LTE/3G/GSM Settings whether you use your data connection or not!
LTE/WCDMA/GSM --> -101 dBm (1 signal Bar)
WCDMA/GSM --> -91 dBm (2 signal Bars)
Only GSM --> -69 dBm (4 signal bars)
Edit: A few minutes ago I met a friend and he was complaining about the bad speech quality of his new HTC one mini.
(He had the phone already replaced at his provider because he thought that the phone is defective)
After I changed his Data connection to Edge the speech quality was nearly perfect and his signal bar jumped from 1 to 5 bars.
I now it is not the best solution to reduce the Data speed you have paid for, but it definitely helps

I heard a rumor that there are codes that you can enter to boost the network signal - now this does not make sense to me but is there such a thing?? This might solve my SMS receive problem (see my other posts) which is related to a weak signal (I think)
Can a network provider boost the signal to a subscriber?
On my old Nokia I had some codes I could input to enable/disable different quality rates / compression rates, but they just used more battery power and gave very negligable results compared to default settings.
The only way you'll get a truly stronger signal is to upgrade your firmware - I found that after upgrading to the latest firmware with the 1.04 Radio, my EXTREMELY borderline signal in my house at home improved to the extent that I can now receive SMSes and send/receive phone calls nearly everywhere in the house, whereas before I had to be on the first floor right next to the window with the phone right against the glass to get a signal.
I live in area with low GSM signal but I noticed that my X8 has very bad reception comparing to my old k750i.
k750i has 5/5 bars most of the time but on x8 I have 1 or 2 bars (max is 4).
The strange thing is that X8 gets 4 bars if I make or receive a call or just check my credit (ussd code) but it's only temporarely. After few mins it lose signal again.
What do You guys think: Is it normal behaviour?
Maybe you use WCDMA signal (i had it with 1 or 2) or signal is low on your place..

I checked use only 2g so it's not wcdma.
I just don't understund why I have much better signal reception in calls than in standby mode.
Sometimes it cause that I can't be reached because of low signal in standby mode.
Hi all,
TL;DR: Does anyone have issues with lots of reception loss in areas with less-than-stellar signal on the I9305 (LTE or 3G or GSM)?
Tomorrow, I want to take my S3 to Vodacom (my carrier in South Africa) so that they will hopefully check the thing and fix / replace it.
The problem I'm having is that my signal drops ( (/) "No Access" sign at the top where the signal strength should be) whenever I'm in a low signal area while others have continuous signal (my partner with his I9300 will still be able to make calls).
I've tested with and without LTE on (LTE is spotty everywhere), on 3G (set it to WCDMA Preferred in one of the secret menu's), or GSM/2G (both via the secret menu and the normal one). There are places where I can put my hand over the back of the phone and within 5 seconds, the signal will disappear completely, until I take my hand away.
For reference, I use No Signal Alert to notify me, mostly because when I got my phone, the bad LTE reception caused frequent radio hangs, which would leave my phone without signal until I checked (hours) later, which forced me to switch to "WCDMA Preferred".
Cheers,
LV
Hello everybody.
I recently bought a HTC One M7. I'm satisfied with it, except when it comes to 3G connectivity and signal strength. I only have from 1 to 3 bars when connected in 3G, while with my chinese phone I was having complete bars.
Here is a little comparaison :
Code:
3G
chinesephone -91 dBm
htc -101 dBm
EDGE
-79 dbm (chinesephone )
-77 dBm (htc)
Sometimes with my HTC, it can go down to -107 dBm, without touching it (just by looking at the screen) !
I put in attachment a screenshot showing the dBm variation over time. Sometimes it can get a pretty good signal and suddenly having a bad signal and stays there. Please bear in mind the chinese phone doesn't have the same problem...
I did all the updates, I'm on 4.4.3 and Sense 6.0. What should I do ? Should I send it back for reparation ?
Thanks you!
Hi,
I have a Samsung S3 LTE (I9305) for Europe use. After last repair(swtiched middle parts near mic port) I have hade friends telling me that thay have called me but the phone never registered any calls? Its not often I hear it but from time to time. Apart from this the phone if working great, never problems to call or during calls.
I have switched the microsim card and I set the phone to use 3G because 4G is not that great here. It always have full bars with 3G and in the status menu it says -69 to -73 dBm 20 asu HSPA(network). If I switch to 4G I will get 1 bar and it says -102 to 105 dBm 34-37 asu LTE
If I send it on service and thay dont find any problems, I will have to pay for the shipping and troubleshooting.
Could there be something wrong with the phone?
