I live in area with low GSM signal but I noticed that my X8 has very bad reception comparing to my old k750i.
k750i has 5/5 bars most of the time but on x8 I have 1 or 2 bars (max is 4).
The strange thing is that X8 gets 4 bars if I make or receive a call or just check my credit (ussd code) but it's only temporarely. After few mins it lose signal again.
What do You guys think: Is it normal behaviour?
Maybe you use WCDMA signal (i had it with 1 or 2) or signal is low on your place..

I checked use only 2g so it's not wcdma.
I just don't understund why I have much better signal reception in calls than in standby mode.
Sometimes it cause that I can't be reached because of low signal in standby mode.

Hello I bought the Diamond yesterday, I'm very satisfied except for the UMTS signal.
I already have a Touch Cruise (it didn't work in UMTS so HTC repaired it on warranty and now it works like a charm).
In the last 48 hours I had Diamond and Cruise one next to the other, and Diamond has always 2 lines less:
* when Cruise is in HSDPA with 4 lines, Diamond is in HSDPA with 2 lines
* when Cruise is in HSDPA with 2 lines, Diamond is in GSM.
Is this normal?
Many thanks in advance.
J.
Everyone has it i have also a TC and indeed, its shows always 2 lines more then the TD.
Same here my htc diamond has always two lines less than my htc kaiser.
The diamond has really a poor UMTS signal reception. I hope they will be able to boost it with a new ROM.
Same here
before with TC i got 2 lines 3G now non
Thanks for your feedback!
So it seems to be a common problem.
Today I checked during all the day, moving from a city to another city, half the time the Cruise had more lines, half the time they had the same.
Other feedbacks? Thanks
same problem here in austria. before i had full signal with my sony erricson t650i, now with the touch diamond i only have the half signal strength...
Well, it doesnt give many bars, but it works like hell here.
When using it as a modem (I often do on the road) I get speeds upto 150kb/s for browsing and emailing and that is just perfect for everything.
My 3G Reception is also VERY Bad.....
I´m using the latest Radio ROM 1.00.25.03.
Because of this weak 3G Recepion the Diamond changes to GSM very often, this eats the Battery up in about 6-8 Hours.....Even if I don´t play around much and the 3G Coverage here is excellent.....
Diamond: 1-2 Bars
Nokia E51: Always full Bars (-87dBm and up)
Hopefully Reception will be better with a new Radio ROM.
If it´s an Antenna issue.........DAMN!!!
I never had a Mobile with THAT bad 3G Reception.
BtW: GSM Reception is fair to good.... could be better also....
Poor 3G signal
That's right,
I have also very poor 3g signal, even though I live in the city area. I have also missed incoming/outgoing calls because the poor 3G signal.
That's not nice
same prob here (big city)
switched manually to gsm not to loose calls
Are you sure this is just 3G and not worse reception in general (ie due to smaller antenna in Diamond)?
in gsm mode i never experienced any trouble with calls.
in auto mode diamond switches to 3g (half signal strength), but one can't call me

Uh, this sounds even worse. Having a bad reception is one thing but showing a "fake reception" is a complete different level of bug.
Just to ensure that I did not get you wrong: You see a 3G reception (e.g. 2 or 3 bars) but the phone does not receive incoming calls and the caller is redirected to your mailbox instead?

yes, got me right.
in my case it's not the mailbox, just a message ("not available" or something like that) because of my settings, but that's petty.
thats why i manually switched to gsm. for using 3g (internet) i have to swith this back again.
annoying!

This should not happen, even when I have the minimum bars in 3G or H others can call me.
When you have full bars in 3G does it work?
same here, although i found that switching off umts and just using plain 3g solved the issues.

yes. when it's stable at full bars or even H, i can use it.
but i deacivated 3g anyway because of powersaving. only using it for web access.
there's a tool for switching 3g in comm manager easily, now i'm happy so far.
So, is it phone or is it just peace of s***?
Hi All
Do you have any fresh idea could it(lousy 3g signal) be hardware or software related issue?
The globe is full of small 3g phones without that kind of problem. That's why I really hope this issue could be fixed with the new ROM radio version...???
I hope I'm right, because if the pain is hardware related, we all have bought pretty expencive peace of crap -not the phone. It is not acceptable if the incoming / outgoing calls are missed!
Same problem, poor 3G reception .
Cruise was far better for receiving 3G signal.
Hope it is software only....
My carrier had some little problems during the past weeks, aparently they were working on something. I sometimes, for short periods, did not have data connection or no servic at all. Now the problems are gone and a speedtest today showed that at my home, the download speed went from an average 1 Mbit to over 5 Mbit!
However, the H symbol won't go away anymore! It used to switch to 3g when not data was transferred. I assume that this will influence battery life.
Is there anything I should be worried?
From what I recall, H is faster than 3g, as long as your in a good signal area, the H will always be visable, it will only drop down to 3g if the area your in has no H signal... and if there is no 3g it will drop to a 2g signal... simples, having the H does not meen that data is being transfered!
I am aware of the different speed levels, what I experience now is that the H symbol stays all the time, whereas it used to change to 3g when idling even in areas with very good reception...

Wait, I don't get what you're saying. Let me clear it up:
Very good reception = H
Not so good reception = 3G
You want to see H (means HSDPA which is a a type of 3G data, but it's faster).

Okay, I'll try that too!
I live in an area with very good reception and therefore the phone used to switch from 3g to H whenever data was transfered and back . Now, however, it stays on H all the time and does not switch back to 3g when no traffic occurs.
It is just a change in the pattern my phone behaves so I wanted to get some info on that...
Hi, it's your phone doing what it should by seeking the best signal.
H refers to HSDPA which is based on UMTS (3G). Consider it a 'turbo' version of 3G. It's sometimes also referred to as 3G+ because it's faster then 3G but not really 4G technology. The tower in your area most likely got upgraded to HSDPA that's why you don't see the 3G icon anymore.

Not correct, he mentioned that his phone was using H on demand before, so the capability was there already.
The problem is that H mode uses more battery than 3G, which is why it normally only switches to H during data transfers instead of continously being on.
Possibly your provider made a change which forces your phone to stay in H mode. On hardcores homepage (see speedmod kernel thread) he describes a method to manually deactivate H mode if you want to play with it.
Hope that helps.

seems to be the explanation... Suddenly I have ~6 Mbit, so almost unsurprisingly there had to be a catch
as for disabling H, it would be permanently so not quite an option. I guess, I'll have to live with it but nevertheless I'll call customer support..
Hspa and 3g are actually different technologies, but can be used on the same site and freq. If you have noticed that your phone is nowdays all the time showing H ( hspa ) and not in 3g like before it means that your carrier has expanded their hspa features and capacity of the network on that area. Main difference between these two tech is of course the speed and how network resources are shared between the users. In 3g you have dedicated ones, but speed limited and in hspa you are sharing the resources between other ones under that cell area. hspa is good if you are near by the cell and there is not too many users from battery consumption point of aswell from througput point of view, 3g is better if you are on the cell edge due to dedicated resources reserved only for you. Main point is, battery consumption of your phone depends mainly how you use your phone ,what kind of applications you have and how often those are connecting/contacted by the network.
Browsing in 3g sucks!

I've flashed my phone countless of times now over the past months and one thing I was hoping for would be better signal strenght for WCDMA mode... I live in Switzerland and my provider is sunrise. Whenever I'm using WCDMA mode the signal is just horrible. Mostly 1 bar or sometimes dropping to zero. 3g and H works most of the time, but the signal is bothering me.. I've tried different modems etc.. but nothing seems to change.. Does anyone else have this problem?? what can I do about it? GSM has full bars most of the time and that's why it's so weird.
also worthy to note is that people hear an echo sometimes when they're talking to me both in GSM and WCDMA mode.
it would be great if someone knows how to solve this problem...
have you been on your providers website to check the coverage in your area ? they could be a fault on their part affecting your signal strength
Im on Vodafone UK and i have terrible 3g signal, I can only use 2g/GSM otherwise my phone doesnt recieve 1 bar of signal - bit of a bummer when you have a smart phone and unlimited internet
Finally, How was your signal before you flashed ? when the phone popped out of the box ? was it still poor then ?
The signal on my Sony Xperia SP fluctuates all the time and changes mode from H to H+ quite a bit, and when I pick the phone up it usually disappears to nothing and I lose signal.
Is there a fix for this? Does anyone else experience this problem?
Made a video to show what I mean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQVTygYlK-k
It is normal that the signal changes from time to time. Normaly a connection is just H and when available it will switch to H+ when the network is in use.
What I advice at first is a new sim card. This does fix most of the network signal issues

Its normal. You have poor HSDPA signal in your area. Switch to 2G Only Mode when you don't need fast internet connection via data packets.
It will hold better signal (of course if you have 2g transmitters in your area) don't switch modes at all so battery drain is also a little less.
First Time I have to open a new thread
Is it possible, that the Data Connection speed has a negative impact on speech quality?
Today at home with WLAN ON and Mobile Data OFF,
I was wondering that I have only on telephone signal bar.
After making some changes to the mobile settings I came to the following conclusion.
The mobile signal strength is depending on your LTE/3G/GSM Settings whether you use your data connection or not!
LTE/WCDMA/GSM --> -101 dBm (1 signal Bar)
WCDMA/GSM --> -91 dBm (2 signal Bars)
Only GSM --> -69 dBm (4 signal bars)
Edit: A few minutes ago I met a friend and he was complaining about the bad speech quality of his new HTC one mini.
(He had the phone already replaced at his provider because he thought that the phone is defective)
After I changed his Data connection to Edge the speech quality was nearly perfect and his signal bar jumped from 1 to 5 bars.
I now it is not the best solution to reduce the Data speed you have paid for, but it definitely helps
