Can you skip sign into google

I am running 1.5 stock firmware and i currently have my phone plan off so i dont have access to internet therefore im running off wifi. Now i wanna update to 1.6 firmware but dont want to cause im scared i wont be able to use my phone after
if the image is based off of the adp phone then you can skip the activation.
if you use the official update whether you wait for OTA or update it manually it won't delete your user information, you won't have to sign in again, no worries

but the candy is sooo much better
since you said you phone was off and didn't have a data connection only wifi i wanted to let you know that if you do upgrade to official 1.6 and decide you want to flash a custom rom in the future the one click method no longer works and you will have to downgrade to gain root wich will require signing in over your data connection

Captivate JH7 unroot question

Hey guys,
I'm new to android.. good riddance iPhone. I am a technically saavy I/T Guy and have already unrooted my captivate and figured out GPS and whatnot. However, I have scoured Google and can't find the answer to a simple question. "Do I need to unroot prior to the OTA JH7 update?"
Thanks for your help,
Trums

i dont think you'll need to unroot the phone but I *think* you'll lose your root once you update....please correct me if I'm wrong, though.

This is correct. All the apps will be there except superuser and the root will be gone.
I did this myself and after the update went ahead and wiped the phone (factory reset) anyway. I wanted to make sure I didn't have anything lingering..
thanks

Do you have still have the 12 MB file you got as a result of the OTA update. If so, can you upload it.

+1, please upload if available. I dont know why att just doesnt let us download it from the website.
sorry gents.. I don't have the file yet.. will upload when I get it.
You can always re-root afterwards...
Does the original root method work with jh7? I'm not really interested in the super rooter type all-in-ones.

+1 Would love to see the update uploaded for us here. I checked to see if mine would update, but unfortunately I guess I am not one of the luck first 15,000.

the update is simply JH7, JH7 has been available for most of us for over a week
grab it from samfirmware if you really want it now

That's where I got mine.. www.samfirmware.com
you will have to sign up for an account but its worth it.
You will have to flash using ODIN. Make sure you get the PIT file located at the bottom of the firmware page too..
Plus once you have the account, you can always flash newer firmwares when they come out...
I know about the leaked JH7. I am running it now. I am only interested in the official JH7 update file, just to compare the two versions.

I am not sure what happened but I just downloaded the update using the check for updates on the phone, it started to install, rebooted the phone then gave me this message:
"The update was not completed.
No update was applied to your phone"
my phone is rooted, lag fix, side load and I did not try to undo any of that stuff.

The same thing happened to me, but when I go my phone settings I show the following:
Baseband version:
1897UCJH7
So do we have to flash back to stock to get this upgrade?
I wasn't too hopeful that our rooted, lagfix-ed phones would play nice with the OTA anyway.

weird, mine still says I897UCJH2
I would like to find out what I need to undo or change (hopefully not reflash) to get the update to install.

He's updating the build.prop in 2.12.3 so it will be same/newer. What it means for you having already downloaded it, maybe delete it from /cache ?

Mine showed.. It looks like its gingerbread. The problem is when I try to install it get stuck on 4%.. maybe because of root?
That's be awesome. Yea possibly, try to flash the original firmware and then do it again. I'll keep my fingers crossed
Using a custom rom btw, thats probably the reason nothing showed

That doesn't make it 196 MB. 196 MB is exactly the amount of data the from the G2x GB update
Well it's obviously not going to be the G2X update, since that's not compatible with the O2X.
Whatever it is, it's not 2.3
I had a problem to update the 196MB large update with win 7 (64bit). This morning I downloaded and installed it on an XP pc. The only thing that has changed was from V10c to V10e... FreeZr you were right. Forgot to also mention that by doing the update i have lost root..

This isn't working. What do I do? I used the one from the market, and it still says "assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/Youtube.apk"". Any help?
At this point, I'd suggest you look into just flashing the /system image instead (so long as you know what you're getting int). Trying to get around script_assert failures is far more annoying than it's worth.
If you want to give it a go, though, why don't you download the 4.2.2 stock image from Google and either flash /system, or mount the .img file on your computer and grab the APK? That might work.
What is wrong with the new version?

Recheck the OP. Probably trying to apply an OTA which is failing because script_assert (which corresponds to an integrity check of /system) is failing.

Oops, I read that as "I don't want to update to 4.3 because I don't want the new youtube" or something. Ahem.
